This was good food. It felt like there were real New Orleans natives in the kitchen making all the food. I think I'm just not the biggest fan of Cajun food. The restaurant was clean, the service was friendly and relatively speedy, and I know the person I was with, who loves Cajun food, loves this places and comes whenever he can. Taste of home! They are on point!!! Real catfish, not Swai like many around Nashville serve (actually in violation of Title 53). Oysters, perfectly fried, not like shoe rubber. Shrimp, again on point. Gumbo? Smell and taste the Filé' Gumbo! Potato salad, fantastic and I don't eat it anywhere but here now. Having desert? The beignets? They are better than cafe du monde actually! Their beignet sundae? Fantastic!!! Bread pudding? Wow, it's fantastic too! Service? With a smile, very well mannered and pleasant servers. We love this place! Being a NOLA native, seafood and dishes from home are often imitated here, but don't come close to back home. For the past 20 years I've eaten at every "Cajun Cooking" place that has come and gone, in the end each has disappointed. NOT VOODOO GUMBO!!! They are on point every time. I knew I had been shown a gem when our server said of one of the owners "...he's a little tied up making a roux...". I was convinced that we had struck gold and when the food came, it was confirmed. WOW!!! We were looking for a good catfish sandwich and found Voodoo Gumbo. We had the fried oyster appetizer, the catfish atchafalaya with a side of potato salad, and for dessert we had a beignet and the amaretto bread pudding. Everything was delicious, but when I tell you that we would travel from Florida to come back here just for the AMARETTO BREAD PUDDING, I mean it! Our waitress recommended it and I'm so glad she did. Delicious gumbo, and super friendly service at a nice central location. Really enjoyed dinner here with the family. They gave me gumbo tastings and I really enjoyed the Étouffée Gumbo - it was my favorite. Very casual and friendly atmosphere, just like in New Orleans. Bread pudding is good. Excellent, in every way! Food is so fresh and service is wonderful!! This is one of my daughter's favorite places to dine, and she insisted that I go with her to try it out. She said the alligator bites are delicious, and I have to agree. I've had alligator bites at other places that were tough, but these were so tender. They serve them with an Asian chili sauce that has a kick, but it's a good compliment to the appetizer. She also wanted to get "hot" fries because they are cooked with Slap Ya Mama seasoning, which she loves. I'm not one that can eat spicy foods, so I didn't eat many of them. But, she sure did! She also suggested that I try their potato salad. So, I ordered a side of it for us to share. It was so good that I persuaded her to let me eat most of it, since the fries were too hot for me. We didn't go for a full meal tonight, just appetizers and sides. But, this place made a fan out of me, like her. So, I will be coming back and ordering everything on the menu, unless it's too spicy. Oh, we also had the beignets for dessert. They were as good as the ones that I got in New Orleans, if not better. Speaking of New Orleans, the owners are from there. Makes sense, because I momentarily thought I was in that city, by the taste of their food. If you want authentic New Orleans cuisine, go here! You'll love it! Run, don't walk... you won't regret it! As a non-seafood/fish eater, I assumed the chicken (at a seafood/gumbo place) would be fine, nothing special. Boy was I wrong!!!! The hand-breaded chicken tenders are truly the best I think I've ever had - crispy, juicy, perfectly seasoned and cooked! Fries were delicious as was the coleslaw. I always judge a Cajun place by their desserts - and this did not disappoint! Both the bread pudding and beignets were top notch delicious - no notes. Our service was top tier as well. Our server was fantastic, personable and on top of it. We had a lovely conversation with the owner as he came around to check on things - they were all very welcoming! I hate that I forgot about this place and I hadn't been in so long because the food is fantastic. Just the fact that you can get traditional Cajun and creole food in Bellevue....The suburbia of Nashville is incredible enough but for it to actually be really good is another thing! The seafood etoufee and jambalaya are favorites. Love the added touch of sundaes for children dining in being on the house! They are full fully stocked with a variety of AbitA beers, which I appreciate! The prices are great and the portions are large. We've had great service when we come and I like that they changed to a full service venue (it previously was an order at the counter joint). read more

Voodoo Gumbo delivered a very nice surprise. The restaurant is tucked away in a shopping center and was not at all what I would have expected. Service was quick and amazing and the food was equally as good. I ordered the gumbo (feel like it was required given the name) and wow what an amazing meal. It was hot and filling (as it should be) and was cooked to perfection. I closed the meal out with a couple of beignets which were a nice finish. It's clear why Voodoo Gumbo has the highest rated Cajun food in Nashville. This is as close as you can get to New Orleans anywhere in Music City, and it's about time I made it out to Bellevue for this experience. With nondescript lettering at the western end of an ordinary strip mall, it doesn't look like much from the outside. But enter this haven of Creole classics and be amazed. They even give small samples of their gumbo, something unheard of in most restaurants! After a sample, I started with the fried oysters. They're now among my favorite appetizers in Nashville, and that's saying something for such an extensive food scene! They're crispy, tender, and quite remarkable! I had the Catfish Atchafalaya as an entree, a dish that's incredibly hearty and flavorfully satisfying! The catfish stays perfectly crispy and it's probably my new favorite catfish in the city. That's surrounded by a gloriously rich étouffée with shrimp, and ample crawfish so fresh you'd think it was lobster! It's like Voodoo's answer to a lobster bisque! And this is an incredible way to sample the masterful cuisine at Voodoo Gumbo. But I'll need to return for the po' boys and the beignets! read more

Got seated promptly and I must say that it smells so good in here!!! Ordered alligator bites, seafood gumbo and the wife got a roast beef po boy. Had a draft beer, but it did have a different taste to it. Maybe the lines need to be cleaned. The alligator bites were very good and the dipping sauce was killer good. My seafood gumbo was definitely delicious and my really enjoyed her po boy. The employees were very friendly and courteous. The restaurant itself is very simple but very comfortable and very clean. If you're looking for a Cajun fix, give them a try. I drove an hour and half to get here and I will be back. read more

I lived in New Orleans, and I ate it some of the best restaurants such as Mr Bs , Antoine's, Commander's Palace, and even Coop's place ~ a really cool Cajun bar with simple Cajun food that's awesome This is completely authentic and it's the best fried oysters and fried shrimp I've had in Tennessee Ethan, my server ... allowed me to sample the seafood, gumbo, red beans and rice, and even the jambalaya all three were delicious But I got in a discussion with Herb, one of the owners ~ and this is where my mind was truly blown !! he gave me some beautiful fresh beignets and an ice cream sundae for my 11-year-old daughter to take home ! That was a real nice surprise, and I felt like he puts his heart into this business We live about 10 minutes from it and we will be back many times ...I guarantee it ! read more

A Symphony Night Made Even Better by Voodoo Gumbo! We were in town for a Symphony concert and decided to try Voodoo Gumbo--and wow, the food was absolutely AMAZING! There were three of us, and we were seated right away, which was a great start. As we looked over the menu, we asked for recommendations, especially about the different gumbo options. One of the coolest things? They actually let you sample the gumbo before ordering! That thoughtful touch really impressed us--not just because it was offered, but because every single gumbo we tried was delicious. My partner and I shared a plate of catfish, fried to absolute perfection, with a side of crispy fries. I went with the sausage and chicken gumbo, and let me tell you--it was hot, flavorful, and so satisfying. Just as we were finishing up, the owner came out personally to ask how our meal was. We couldn't stop raving about it! He was so kind and welcoming, and we even got to chat with him about the history of the restaurant and the possibility of future locations. At his suggestion, we tried the bread pudding--and let me just say, this was not your average bread pudding. We all agreed that we've had it elsewhere and didn't care for it, but Voodoo Gumbo nailed it. We LOVED it! And the beignets? Fresh, airy, and the perfect sweet finish. This place is a gem. Never judge a book by its cover! We are visiting Nashville and when we pulled up, it looked like a tiny little takeout place from the outside. Then when we walked in, it's a full restaurant and even had cocktails and alcohol. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. The staff is some of the friendliest people. We had two people come check on us after we received our food to make sure everything was okay and our server was just the kindest person ever. Now the food! Seasoned to perfection and perfectly fried. The fish was so light and flaky and the shrimp was delicious! We were so happy at the end of our meal. Not one of us lest a thing on our plates. read more

One of my favorite local restaurants in Nashville! The food, service, desserts, and atmosphere are amazing. The staff are exceptional, but with the leadership the owner exhibits I am not surprised. The last time I was in it was pouring down raining and he offered to walk me and my girlfriend to the car. The catfish atchafalata is my favorite entree on the menu. I have come here a few times and the food is good. They did change up the ordering of your food for the good. If you are eating here you now are seated and you have a server. Much better! Server was friendly and was efficient. I ordered the seafood gumbo to start off with, very good and the bread was amazing. Then I had the Crawfish étouffée, and it was too similar to the gumbo. Love the atmosphere in this place! New Orleans here we come! There is a great vibe and the staff are all welcoming and friendly. The service is accommodating and there are lots of staff stopping by to say hi and check in on you at your table. We try to come once a week if we can. Their crispy shrimp poboy with a side of remoulade sauce is my personal favorite but everything we have tried has been delicious! The chicken and sausage gumbo is perfect, warm, and comforting. They also have a seafood gumbo that is flavorful and seasoned to perfection! The Alligator bites are fun and crispy and come with a yummy sweet and spicy sauce. The Etoufee and jambalaya are perfectly prepared and filling! My favorite side is their house-made potato salad. And dont forget to grab a few beignets before you go. He fell in love with the experience and the food . We both had Poboys (his was catfish, mine oyster) and the food was exquisite for lack of better wording. The bread was incredibly fresh and hot, the fish and oysters melted in our mouths. Damned near orgasmic. (Sorry, children.) The beignet took me back to our honeymoon in New Orleans 40 years ago. Man, don't I love Cajun food! If you're looking for a taste of Louisiana, this is where you need to be! It's giving bourbon street vibes on the inside. The people here are super friendly. I don't recall the man's name who waited the tables. When I tell you this man was attentive and ensured all guests seated within were satisfied....he did THAT! Very respectful individual and if you're looking for a reason to give him an increase, this is IT! Everything we tried from the catfish po boy, crawfish etouffee, beignets, and jambalaya were seasoned to perfection! I'm not sure if there is anything here that wouldn't be bursting with flavor! My wife and I found this place last year and stop every time we pass through. We both are shrimp lovers and let me tell you, you'll not find any better than here. Food is fresh and hot. Antonio was our waiter this time and he was so courteous, nice , and quick. Told him we always stop here from Jackson TN and he came out later and gave us a free Beignet order. The decor is authentic NOLA, and so is the food. And thus it looked to us like it might be one of several such restaurants but it is not! It's a standalone establishment created by two brothers from Louisiana. You will not be disappointed with the food or the warm hospitality...we were treated to lagniappe...something extra...one of the owners poured a bit of the amaretto sauce that is reserved for bread pudding on top of our beignet...and based on the taste, another time I would order the bread pudding! The fries were delicious to say the least, and the sauces were great! The customer service was the best I've experienced in a very long time from any restaurant. The wait time was not long at all, the food was fresh and hot when it came to our table, and all of the workers were so authentically kind. We were given free beignets from the owner, and it was just the nicest gesture! You can see that the kitchen is very clean, and so is the whole restaurant.
