We used to go to this establishment for both my maltipoo breeds. We would see "Desi", who was incredibly kind and provided good services. However, they kept increasing their prices so I decided to groom from home for a while since money can get tight. I recently called back to book them and I just receive as an appalling attitude from a woman name "Wendy". She kept huffing and puffing over the phone and when I said my dogs hadn't been in some months (between 3-6?? maybe) I told her I had personally groomed them from home. Her dialogue towards me changed immediately, she asked with a blatant disrespectful attitude what condition my dogs would be in?? Then proceeded to tell me there are just too busy this season for us and if we can't be there consistently every 5 weeks....- I hung up!!! 5 BUCKETS OF VOMIT for The Pet Spaw, as I am sick, sick, sick about what was systematically happening to our darling little girl. Let me state this review will update and replace the 5 star review I wrote after our first visit one year ago, below, wherein, I mistakenly was taken in by the phony friendliness upon dropping off our puppy. First of all, I'm being told the owner goes by the name of Olga (?) and the groomer we used is named Deci. Nonetheless, here is our sad and hurtful experience with The Pet Spaw: We took our cute, sweet little Cocker Spaniel to them as we learned they only use scissors, not electric razors. She was shaking each time we dropped her off, however, we were assured it "was normal". Over the course of the past year, our puppy's sweet personality has become more aggressive, but we attributed it to the fact that she was just 'protecting' Mom around other dogs in the park. (Unusual behavior for her.) A few months ago, she started experiencing an extremely upset stomach each night, the night of her grooming experience. We immediately took her to the Vet and tried to determine why she was so sick, because we didn't make the connection to the 'NICE' people at The Pet Spaw. Last week, after grooming, her illness has lasted one week to this day, we have, of course, taken her to the Vet, and the diagnosis is "STRESS COLITIS". Something one gets from STRESSFUL situations. Hmmmm.....what could be happening at the groomers, we wondered?? I called Deci to discuss our puppy's diagnosis, since I THOUGHT they "loved her so much", and before I could get two words out of my mouth (once she 'remembered' who I was), she LAUNCHED into a vitriolic barrage of yelling that wasn't even on point. In the background, she was joined by the 'owner Olga', yelling I don't know what, as she could only hear one side of the conversation. ?????? It seems they knew they were guilty of something having to do with our puppy, as they never even let me discuss the reason we were calling and told me NOT to bring our puppy back and they were cancelling future appointments. Why would they be doing that if they weren't guilty of something???? Deci also yelled that she had been charging me $25 LESS than everyone else ! ????? NEWS FLASH, PET SPAW - I NEVER asked for a discount, didn't care WHAT you charged and would have even paid THREE times the amount we paid, without question, as it is the 'quality of care' that is important to us, NOT the cost. !! Did you appreciate the large tips, and the extra money we gave you at Christmas....BEFORE we realized our puppy was sick?? If I had known this level of stress and anxiety existed at The Pet Spaw, as opposed to the phony niceness you hear upon drop-off, I would have NEVER, EVER, EVER left our puppy in their care. No wonder our little girl has Stress Colitis, and, yes I hold them responsible. Are we loving, over-protective parents?? You bet we are !! It's situations like this that would make any 'parent' suspicious and extra careful when entrusting fake professionals with the care of their child. **IMPORTANT NOTE: If you notice ANY change of behavior in your dog after grooming, LOOK INTO THE REASONS VERY CLOSELY. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! March 17, 2018 - Wendy, thank you for your response to my review and your explanation. A couple things: 1) Had we known it was a 'training salon', we wouldn't have chosen your salon; and, 2) If Deci had conducted herself in the same professional way in which you addressed our concerns, as opposed to YELLING along with the woman in the background SHE referred to as 'Olga the Owner', and possibly listened to the reason I was calling, this all could've ended on a nicer note. I have a double coated long haired senior male Keeshond - a tough, breed specific grooming challenge & Deci does a great job every time Bear goes there. He loves the ride down the hill and his 'bow tie when we pick him up. Price is reasonable for this breed & they're easy people to work with - they do what they say they'll do. Our prior groomer did a nice job but complained continually about the double coat, hair length etc - the breed is what it is and if you accept the breed except their 'unique' double coat. Finding the shop the first time is the hardest part of the deal - everything else is easy. Bear is a year 'round regular and has p-mailed all his pals this is the place to get groomed! read more

We always take our two Poodles (a toy and standard) to The Pet Spaw for grooming. Wendy does a fabulous job of scissor cutting/styling the coats on our beloved pets. I have a Standard Poodle, 10 months old. They have groomed him 4 times in the past. This last time they 1) didn't clean his ears; 2) didn't trim his nails; 3) didn't shave around his rear end; 4) called to say it would be $30 extra do do poodle feet because he was hard to work with AFTER THEY DID THE FEET AND INJURED HIS RIGHT FRONT LEG. I had to take him to the vet, thank goodness nothing is broken but he is still limping 5 days later. I called to speak with Wendy but she will not return my call. This dog is extremely valuable as he is in training to be a seeing eye dog for Guide Dogs of the Desert. Thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of training have gone into this process. read more

Reference my post of 7/13 regarding the team at Pet Spaw (under the supervision of owner Wendy, 55 - 60ish lady approximately 5"2" with blondish hair who runs a school out of the shop) who damaged the end of my Pom's tail and left a cotton ball in his ear which was discovered by Veterinarian Ryan Westbrook of the Banning Animal Hospital. Wendy states that I have never been to her shop. Indeed I have. My visit there was prompted by a cut my Pom had gotten from her step daughter (according to Wendy) Kortney who did a great cut while working at another facility. Since Kortney was not able to be located by my regular groomer, I went to Wendy who said she taught Kortney everything she knows but had too many problems and she had to let her go. Wendy is blatantly lying (in this case) and I was so very lucky to be seeing Dr Ryan 3 days after the fateful grooming experience at Pet Spaw. I had a person meeting with Wendy about this problem visit and she told me to take Tiger (my Pom) and go away and actually wanted to refer me elsewhere and said "you're a problem client and I don't do problem clients". I couldn't be more pleased with my grooming shop, The Pet Spaw! Wendy, the owner, is a true professional in her field and love, love, loves her clients! (The four-legged ones, most especially!) My two poodles return the love, for sure! I'm somewhat of a perfectionist and I'm always extremely happy with the meticulous grooming they both receive. Attention to detail is the key here...ears, anal glands, toe nails, etc., all beautifully accomplished each visit. Precision "poodle" cuts, including clean, perfect poodle feet! Hands down the best groomers I have found in Southern California! My dog is a paralyzed miniature poodle who cannot be caged as his legs could become trapped in the bars. The folks at the Pet Spaw allow me to accompany my pet through the entire grooming process. They are professional and very friendly. As I am allowed to be in the "back of the house", I see how all the other animals are handled and could not be more pleased. Every employee treats each pet with love and compassion. I have seen many groomers act as though the animals in their care are just objects. The folks at The Pet Spaw treat them as the loved and loving family members they are. Andrea you are a miracle worker. My dog, Riley Marie, does not like having her nail cuts and it's been a problem for me to cut them regularly. Riley gets upset when her nails are touched or clipped to say the least. Riley went to Andrea right away, they went in the back room and they both came out smiling. So awesome and it only cost $15. I am very happy with the service we receive at the Pet Spaw. Christian is very attentive to my dog Bailey. He always starts with warm hugs to settle her in his soft manner. Christian listens carefully to my requests... and Bailey always looks beautiful. When I come to take her home her happy spirit and waggy tail are proof to me that she is very comfortable with her surroundings at the Pet Spaw and that she has been treated well. I made and appointment and when I arrived the owner looked at my dog and refused him. He is long haired and he had some tangles but rather than suggest I brush him out more and come back or charge me more and take care if it, she gave me back my dog like he was a leper. I was humiliated in front of everyone at the shop. Very pretentious. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE Thought pretty highly of this place until our visit on Friday 10/28. After picking up our dog (just a bath and tidy) and he was home for awhile he couldn't stop shaking his head around. We thought a little water in his ears? Well he wouldn't stop. So with our vet on the phone and upon a closer inspection he had cotton stuffed in both his ears!! She told us to immediately remove it and get it all or it could be very seriously dangerous. She also said no groomer she knows of would ever do that. This place was closed when we left a voice message. 2 weeks later and we still have not heard a word of explanation or apology from them!! Never asked if it was ok. Never told us they shoved cotton in the poor little guy's ears! Seriously putting a dog in danger like that? Don't believe me? Ask your vet next visit how dangerous this is if not immediately removed. This place had 2 weeks to at least respond and are now on the boycott list. Social media is very powerful and we plan to let other local dog owners know. read more

Hate to write this review since I like Wendy BUT need to share. We have used Pet Spaw for several years. Lately we noticed the coton de tulear and shih tzu hair cuts were not up to par. Wendy had passed off both dogs to Christian for grooming. In September the shih tzu came home sick and I had to ask if they noticed anything. They had noticed diarrhea in the shih tzu. That is something the owner needs to know when picking up the dog. Several days later I noticed the coton had like a happy face cut on his butt. When I brought him back for Wendy to look at, she indicated Christian was one of her best hair cutters. Wendy said perhaps my husband had cut the hair on the butt!! Really??? In October I indicated I only wanted Wendy to do both dogs not Christian. When picking the pups up that day all of a sudden I was told the shih tzu was too hard to handle and needed to be tranquillized the next time. The shih tzu had been groomed for a whole year at Pet Spaw before they said anything to me ??? I started to piece things together because being tranquillized was not an option. Since I complained the two times about Christian all of a sudden my dog was a problem. Took both dogs to another groomer yesterday and there was no issue in grooming either dog. read more

I found The Pet Spaw to be extremely unfriendly. It's a "cash" only business. We have taken our dogs to be groomed there...about a half dozen times thinking that perhaps Wendy was just having a "bad" day. After every visit...we continued to find Wendy very difficult to work with. She never seemed to remember us or our dogs after 6 months of doing business with her during the slowest months (summer) of the year. Needless to say...we will never use this dog groomer again. read more

I just moved here and have been looking for a groomer . I brought my 5 pound Yorkie in for the first time several weeks ago. When I picked him up the groomer told me several times how great he was. When I went to pay a lady walks by, assuming the owner, and yells "$10 more next time for the challenge." I asked my groomer what that meant since she just told me how great he was. She explained it was because he was a little bit nervous and they had to go slow. Slow? Seriously? I would think you want to go slow and nice to get them proper haircut anyway and I get charged extra for that. I think that is absolutely ridiculous. I loved the groomer and the haircut was perfect but I don't think I'd go back or even recommend this to anybody. It is too bad because everybody ask me where I get his haircut because it isn't adorable puppy cut . Bottom line is.... nice groomer and cut but do not support a business that has to charge extra to take a little extra with your pet. In my opinion they just want to make money and dont really care about the dogs! Very sad because there is a lot of competition for dog groomers here. read more

We moved here in late 2009 and found Wendy to be our saving angel. At the time we only had little Olivia. We later rescued another Yorkie, Benson. It was complicated because Olivia had developed seizures since moving to the desert and Benson was new to grooming as a rescue. Wendy was responsive to our needs and the only groomer that took the time to understand each of them. We couldn't have found a better situation. Wendy and her staff do a great job and always greet us by name. We have since lost little Olivia but have rescued yet another Yorkie, Micah and yes she has overcome her fear of grooming as well thanks to Wendy and the great staff at Pet Spaw! read more
