I was a the Phoenix Theater for the first time tonight to see Mark Cordes in his comedy show, "The Spouse Whisperer". The theater was comfortable enough, the show was awesome. All seats are great! The Theatre is small enough even if you are far right or far left seating, you'll still have a great view!

Took a my wife on a date to see Avenue Q, at Phoenix theatre. The show was hilarious and the cast was great. So the show itself was in the "Hormel Theatre" which is there smaller black box style theater. Probably seats 225-240. This is the perfect size of a theater despite sitting in about the worst seats in the place felt like we were right on stage. Before the show we stopped at the bar. I ordered an Old Fashioned that was made with Bullet Rye, served slightly muddled with the appropriate large cube of ice. My wife ordered the salted caramel martini. Both drinks were spot on and we enjoyed them. Before we left the bar tender asked if we wanted to pre-order our drinks for intermission. This was the greatest suggestion ever and the best tip I can leave for you. Intermission came, we walked behind the giant heard of people out of the theater, walked to the bar and low and behold our drinks sitting under my name. Let us sit and enjoy our beverages during intermission versus waiting impatiently hoping we make it back in time. Overall thoroughly enjoyed our date night and look forward to seeing our next show there. read more

We have been to this theatre many times in the years we have lived here. We recently purchased tickets for the Wizard of Oz and paid about $400 for premium tickets. Yesterday in the mail I received a promotion from the theatre regarding this particular show advertiising 50% off on premium tickets. I was a bit upset about this so I called the theatre. The answer was "there's nothing I can do about that." Not a good answer - not great customer service. She didn't even say she would see if she could do anything. They should be bright enough to figure some customers who bought the tickets not long ago would be upset receiving this "offer." I will have to think about attending this theatre in the future and will be mentioning this to friends. By the way I have never written a review like this before. I have been to many Phoenix Theatre shows over the years. All were excellent. I was excited when I saw they were resuming performances "covid style" outside, socially distance and mask wearing (but really we are required to wear a mask outside when six feet apart?!?) anyway willing to honor their guidelines, because I was excited to see a performance! First..good news.. the performance I saw..Judy Garland was fantastic! But I left early..it was an afternoon performance on an outside stage, which was good s me..beautiful Az weatherHOWEVER, seats were in the sun! No shade covering! Come on can't you purchase temporary shade covering?! My tix was $59! I had to leave, sun scorching my face and hot hot hot in the direct sun. I looked around and most of the audience were seniors/elderly. Some take medicine that says stay out of sun! I felt so bad for them. Come on Phoenix Theatre give some sador lower those sun scorching ticket prices! read more

This is my second time to the Phoenix Theatre. The first time was watching Monty Python 2 years ago. I thought the cast did a pretty good job then. But most recently I went to see Mary Poppins. The show was fantastic! I was grinning ear to ear the entire time during the show. It brought me back to my childhood. The entire cast was wonderful, but the actor who played the character Bert definitely stood above the rest . I loved the Step in Time part. I definitely would go again! read more

Time and time again Phoenix theatre blows me away. The band, led by Alan Ruch, does a fantastic job at bringing these musicals to life. The lighting for these shows is stunning. I haven't loved every show I've seen there but it's not the shows fault, it's my taste. There is almost always something going on at one of there venues so see for yourself. Bravo to all the actors, crew, production staff, and my favorite the PT band. read more

This was my first visit here and I have to say I WILL be back. I came to see the show "Memphis" and it was spectacular! When I first arrived, I went to their magnificent bar which is in their front lobby. I expected beer & wine however they had a pretty extensive specialty drink menu and quite a few beers to choose from - choices choices choices. I ordered a Stella & the bartender said it was still Happy Hour - WHAT! Happy Hour HERE? Yep it's true people - till 7pm if I'm not mistaken. My beer was $3 - seriously. For the intermission - I preordered my drink and a snack which was beautifully waiting for me mid show at the HAPPY HOUR PRICE. I ordered a Devil's Kiss cocktail and a flourless chocolate chip chocolate cookie (thats A LOT of chocolate). The cocktail was lovely & the cookie was HUGE & deeeeeelicious. I could only have a few bites & it took me three days to eat the rest. Now for the stage - it is not a large venue and the acoustics were very good. I was in row E (left side of stage) 2nd seat from the aisle. No obstructions and I could see everything. I will definitely keep my eyes open for upcoming shows and visit here again. LOVE a good show that doesn't break the bank! read more

This review is actually for the café at the Phoenix Theater. Apparently a year or so ago they opened a café in their lobby area. We tried it out tonight and I have to say I was so disappointed. I took my two daughters to see a play. We dressed up for the theater and thought having dinner in their café would be a lovely idea. Not so much... We each ordered an individual pizza, a Cesar salad and truffle fries to share. First, the water came in a little plastic cup. Three sips and the water was empty. Next, the salad came in a small paper bowl with plastic silverware. Next, our pizza came on a small circle of cardboard covered with a piece of wax paper. It was seriously the most bizarre presentation I've ever seen. The pizza was fairly bland, the cheese was barely melted on top and each of our pizzas were burnt on the bottom. The salad was OK... Nothing special. The "truffle" fries tasted like McDonald's french fries. They were fine, but there was certainly nothing "truffle" about them. Overall, we were so disappointed. The plasticware, paper bowls, wax paper covered cardboard plate were all just so tacky. Felt like I was eating at a fast food restaurant not in the lobby of lovely theater. However, speaking of the theater, it was clean, the play that we saw was awesome and we would definitely go back to the theater again. Just would never eat at the café again. read more

Phoenix Theatre is a wonderful venue to see theatre productions. The productions are almost wonderful opportunities to see some of Arizona's finest acting, singing and dancing. They now have three theaters on the campus next to the wonderful phoenix art museum and a cool bar area to visit before, during after the show. The Almost Famous Theatre company puts on great productions in the Hardes theatre and its an affordable way to experience theatre and see local talent perform before they head off to Hollywood, NY or London! read more

My wife and I went to see Les Miserables last night. I found the cast and production to both be first class. Immensely enjoying, my wife even cried during "I dream a dream." It was our first time at Phoenix Theatre and we will be back. The theatre provides a small, intimate setting which, in my opinion, elevates the overall experience. Did I mention FREE PARKING? If we had to pick only one favorite from the show, it would be Eponine (played brilliantly by Jenny Hintze). Her voice is amazing and my wife and I both loved her portrayal of Eponine. I see in her program bio that she has been in lots of productions and it is no wonder why. Thanks for a great first experience Phoenix Theatre, we will see you soon! read more

Saw Beehive at Phoenix theater yesterday. I love the venue-great view no matter where you sit and the show was great. The best part of the show is when each of the singers had solos. Great songs by Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Janis Joplin and more the singers sang their hearts out and gave super renditions of some classics! read more

A Phoenix institution which has changed so much from when we knew it as "Phoenix Little Theater" and many if us had worked on or been UB one if those community productions. Well, it sure isn't little anymore! The new management has taken it from a cowtown community theater to a real professional venue with growth and expansion galore! The addition of the black box theater is great but the seats are terrible. The mainstage us as it always was and it is a nice little theater. I have seen a lot of plays, musicals and comedies there for many, many years. U have enjoyed some if them and some if them were absolutely terrible. However all of them were a small escape from reality which us what theater us all about - a suspension of disbelief. Phoenix Theatre has done that time after time. read more

I love this theatre! They have a great lounge area where you can purchase food & libations prior to the show starting. You're able to pre-order another round so that when you exit into the lounge during intermission your cocktail is waiting for you! we just saw "the little shop of horrors" at the phoenix theater this afternoon & im THRILLED i did!! it was incredibly entertaining on all sorts of levels!! i almost didnt go (ticket was a gift) because i mistakenly thought the story line was a "campy, nonsensical, waste of time" .. how wrong i was! the story was quite deep & emotional, at times, with subjects like child abandonment, abuse of women, self esteem issues coupled w/ deeply felt selfless love between the two main characters.. somehow all of these topics were riding on a vehicle of improbable circumstances and that's where the magic was for me.. the combination of ridiculously funny comedy with deep, interpersonal stories.. perfection!! & the performers were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! EACH ONE OF THEM!! i cant believe im saying this but I would LOVE TO see THIS SHOW, WITH THESE STAGE ACTORS again!! its THAT GOOD!! THANK YOU to EVERYONE involved in this production.. you all put on a show that i would give a score of 10 out 10!! read more

My Husband and I planned a Birthday outing for my 36th birthday and we agreed on seeing a play at Phoenix Theatre. Since we both enjoy jazz and we both like several songs by the singer Billie Holiday we thought "Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill" would be a suitable choice. This turned out to be the worse choice we could have ever made. We arrived on the day of the show and bought out tickets for $147.00. They were good seats that were up close and centered. The lady at the ticket counter was hesitant to sale us the tickets and asked us if we were sure that was the show we came to see. As soon as we were seated I understood her hesitation. This play is not meant for the entertainment of blacks. My husband and I were immediately insulted and appalled by the language of the play. There was frequent use of the work N***** and the actress went on to make demeaning jokes about blacks. We endured the verbal abuse for about 5 or 6 minutes then walked out on the play. We were humiliated. We asked for a refund and were given the card of the person to contact. After contacting this person she refused to give us a refund and offered to give us tickets to another performance. I don't feel that the $90.00 valued left stage tickets were and appropriate resolution to this incident. I will never return to this theatre and I would like a refund. read more

A PERFECT THEATER EXPERIENCE. On June 4, 2016, my wife and I went to see "When You Wish" at the Phoenix Theater. We've been to this theater before, but this was the first time we elected to have pre-show dinner and drinks at the Bistro instead of dining at a nearby restaurant. Immediately upon being seated at the Bistro we knew we had made the right decision! Our server, Dixie, was impressively charming, friendly, enthusiastic, and was able to offer us not only several appealing options for dinner, she also guided us into ordering drinks, which, would be conveniently ready for us at intermission. Nice touch! The selection of entrees was intelligently done, and we especially liked the chicken club sandwich and kale salad. Prices were reasonable for food and drinks and we felt we had received good value for our money. But back to the people: Dixie wasn't merely acting in her role of a server: She was genuinely interested in making our experience perfect. It was obvious she enjoyed customers, she enjoyed her job, and she was very knowledgable about the menu and procedures. Indeed we were so impressed with Dixie, we asked to speak to her manager. Not surprisingly, Dixie's manager, Elizabeth Caruana, (who coincidently had hired Dixie) was equally gracious and charming! Elizabeth was very sharp, knew her business, and yet made my wife and I so comfortable and welcome it was like spending an evening with family. By the time we had finished dinner and were entering the theater, we had already made up our minds that not only would we be returning to the Bistro for pre-show dining, we would also be recommending this experience to all of our friends and business associates! Incidentally the production of "When You Wish" was wonderful, first class, and we could not have been more pleased with the performance. My daughter and I saw Mama Mia last week. Not only was the performance outstanding, but the employees/staff were very nice and attentive. We had some appetizers on site-very good and very reasonably priced. The theatre is a little smaller, but we got to sit closer to the stage. Parking is free and right across the street!! We will be back! This is a Phoenix gem. Mama Mia was our first visit.....my daughter liked this performance better than the National Touring group. So much talent on stage!! Well done! read more

This review is not for the theater which I absolutely love and will continue to attend plays and musicals there. We went to see "Cooking's a Drag" which was such a hoot and we very much enjoyed it. The place is beautiful. We have been considering purchasing season tickets. My dissatisfaction is with the bar. We were invisible sitting at the bar for ages. I wanted to look at a drink menu but knew that would take too long and we didn't want to risk missing any of the musical. So, feeling rushed, I decided to splurge on a $12 "special" cocktail that was posted above the bar. It showed a deliciously appealing swirling creamy cocktail in a martini glass with a graham cracker crusted rim. Yum!! It was Mother's Day, after all! The bartender put in front of me one of those plastic clear tiny cups like you'd get a Coke in that would be gone in 2 minutes, maybe 6 oz. I thought - this can't be mine. But, he poured something into it that resembled eggnog and indeed that was it. What happened to the martini glass? Swirls? Crusted rim? And teeny tiny. I downed it in no time. When we left, I remarked to the bartender that I missed out on the graham cracker crust, and he just mumbled about how it was just so busy. Really? It should've been a freebie at that point. People spend a lot of money here and they should get better bar service. I hope this was a fluke and not the norm. read more

I went to see "Saving Tania's Privates" on 10/09/10. The Phoenix Little Theatre was a perfect venue for this event. Since the show had some delicate and poignant scenes, the small stage was perfect for showcasings these gems. Tania Katan is deserving of a purple heart for courage for her role as sole writer and performer of this fact based phenomenon. Hilarious!!! A Christmas Story is laugh out loud funny, with all of the movie moments created on stage. Touching also, as Ralphie remembers his family and their best Christmas ever. Great family entertainment! And lots of people wore their A Christmas Story t-shirts and ties. read more
