I bought a secondhand Canon A1 film camera but was having issues focusing on my images, so I thought it was a lens issue. Since I am a beginner to film photography, I brought it here and Derek found it was an issue with the blurry/dusty viewfinder. I was able to fix the shutter button at home myself and now I have a working vintage camera that I got for $10! Derek and the other staff were kind enough to look at my camera for free to see if it would require any more work, and luckily, I didn't need any work done. I have bought several times before from CCC and have taken several classes and field trips. Always a great experience and super knowledgable folks. This time I was upgrading from a Sony A7II to the Sony A7III during the recent trade and upgrade event. I first spoke to David on the phone at the Creve Coeur store who was extremely helpful. He found the camera at another store and had it transferred. He also gave me a ballpark estimate on my A7II. I really appreciated that as I didn't want to waste my time if I couldn't afford the deal. Really great initial contact. Very professional, courteous and knowledgable. I went to pick it up the next day and David was off so his manager Jessica helped me. Was an equally great experience with Jessica. She took my A7II to have it evaluated, got the new A7III for me with a lens so I could test it out in the store. I was told I had 30 days for a return on a camera lens that was used. Came back within 14 days but that wasn't the case I should've read the receipt as it really didn't matter what the sales person told me. I would not not buy anything from Creve Coeur camera again.The manager did say he would take the lens back but he would charge me 30% restocking fee. Quite frankly when I sold a very similar lens on my trad, they gave me $30. read more

It had been a couple of decades since I set foot in a real camera shop...until stopping by this place. The experience of shopping for a camera or accessories online is so completely different - if you are positive of what you want or need it can be just fine. If not, you'll do well to find an honest-to-goodness camera shop...not Amazon or Best Buy. I had an in-depth conversation about exactly what I wanted to be able to do before any products were offered to meet my needs. When they were offered a discussion of features and benefits ensued. I was able to very quickly make my selection. On the way home, I stopped by the neighborhood pool (my teenagers had taken the neighbor kids swimming) and shot a couple of hundred photos with my new lens just to make sure I was completely happy. Being an aficionado of online shopping (screw you, black friday!) I returned home to validate my decision and their pricing and decided that I came out just fine. I probably could have paid less but not a whole lot less. I certainly could not have completed the research as quickly as I did and I would not have had the experience of buying something from someone as enthusiastic about their work. read more

We purchased an old Lica camera from Creve Coeur camera this winter to try our hand at some old school photography and when we got our first role of film back blank, we knew it was likely user error. We went to Creve Coeur Camera to get their assistance in helping acclimate us to the camera. While they weren't experts on this specific camera, they made it a point to help us diagnose the issue and explain some of the basic features to us. David especially took the time to step in to offer assistance and tips. He showed us some of the light meters they had in stock but then also recommended a downloadable light meter app that worked well. It was clear he was not trying to "up-sell" us, but rather educate and assist. It is so nice to have a local camera company that is dedicated to spreading their passion for photography with the community. read more

I made a purchase online of a used camera this place had listed. I drove from Cedar Hill MO to Maryland Heights to pick up my purchase as the text and email stated it would be ready at 2:05 pm. I arrive to the business location and call the number so they can bring my purchase out. Kasey originally stated that a lady was coming tomorrow to look at it, then changed the story to the camera is on hold for a friend that is coming from 2-3 hours away. I told her I already purchased it as it was posted online, they took the money out of my account immediately. She said she was too busy to take it down off the website, but that's hard to understand as they are only allowing one customer in the store at a time. When I asked for an immediate refund since it's their screw up, they declined as I purchased with a card - the only way online. Then I asked her if I could see the others she has in store and Kasey stated we don't have any in store, but you have the one I purchased and there are other brands and styles for sale online as well. They lost my business and I told her I would leave her and the new store a RAVE review. Good luck dealing with her and this business. read more

I have visited the Ladue store (before you closed it), the Crestwood store (before you closed it) and the store in Creve Coeur (before you moved it to some odd looking office park type location). Many of the salespeople I've talked to are pretty good. I came in last fall looking to purchase a Nikon D500 and was told "It wasn't that great of a camera". The salesperson then suggested I looked at some Panasonic models. REALLY? I already have an investment in Nikon lenses and bodies, why would I want to change now? I had been researching it and the D500 fit my needs for sports and wildlife photography. I didn't want to "beg them to sell it to me" so I went to the other camera store in town and bought it. BTW.. I received your email asking people to write a 5 star review for Creve Coeur Camera for a chance of winning a large screen TV or a gift certificate to your store? If you have to "pay" people for a positive review, it's not very genuine or honest. I don't think this is the way review sites were designed to be. read more

I bought a brand new full frame camera Nikon D7 50 went to the store in Chesterfield to buy a lens for it and what sold a Tamron 18 to 400 mm lens. Come to find out the lens was not even full framed. Called the store to see if they would do anything about it and was told they were going out of business and wouldNot do trade-ins or exchanges. We would highly recommend St. Louis School of Photography! A flash drive which contained my children's pictures for the past 7 years, started giving me an error message. I first went to Geek Squad to have them take a look at it and hopefully retrieve my life; however, after a quick look they told me there were no files on the drive (I had them double check b/c I was in complete shock and disbelief). They again said there was absolutely nothing on the drive. I was heart broken, but decided not to give up and called St. Louis School of Photography. They told me to come on in and after a quick look the owner stated that he thought he could help, but would need to keep the file overnight. We received a call the next morning with great news from him that the corrupt drive had thousands of pictures and videos that he was able to retrieve and transfer to a new flash drive for us. We were so relieved and thankful we didn't listed to Geek Squad and throw the drive away. Such a great company and outstanding customer service!! read more

I have been shopping at Creve Coeur Camera for over 35 years. They have always been helpful and extremely friendly. I have shopped at the main location in Creve Coeur and the Crestwood store. If I can't find something, the staff is always available to point me in a direction or provide an alternative. I have purchase items in stock and made special orders. Why shop locally versus the internet you might ask. The staff is the main reason. What help can you get on the internet? I can return things that aren't right and quickly get a refund or a fix. Secondly, I have found out that cameras need to fit your hand. I can try different brands, sizes and models to determine which one works best for me. For example, when I bought my first DSLR, I had the chance to buy any brand that I wanted. The models, beyond the true professional versions, were all similar. Comfort became the way I determined which one to buy. Try doing that on the internet. Creve Coeur's training classes are always helpful. I've only taken a few, but they were excellent. Their staff/trainers are all very experienced in the fields they teach. read more

I have been to Creve Coeur Camera in multiple locations. They have been unfailingly helpful. I was recently at a photography conference where they had a booth. I stopped by to discuss equipment I needed to photograph a wedding I have been roped into doing for a family member (even though I am not a wedding photographer). I recognized Tom Tussey from several classes I have taken there, and he and two other team members working at the booth answered all my questions and talked me down from my high stress level! They told me to stop by any time I had questions or needed help. I actually stopped by the booth to purchase a soft box that I thought I needed, and they told me that the equipment I already had (which I purchased at Creve Coeur Camera) was more than adequate for the wedding photos. I told them they talked me out of a sale, and they said that they are there to help photographers, not just try to make sales that are unnecessary for the photographer. I will definitely keep going there for all of my photography needs. I can't wait to visit the new Chesterfield store! read more

I don't like to leave bad reviews, but I have never had a good experience here over many years and multiple situations. Staff is unfriendly and not very helpful. It's like a group of photo snobs who are too good for those of us who aren't experienced photographers or very computer savvy. Plus they are way over priced! I have asked my "real" photographer friend their opinion and they told me to NEVER go here. True story. The customer service from the staff working the floor is mostly OK (there are a couple of sales couple people that don't seem to care and a couple that really do care and are do an awesome job). The customer service from ownership/management has cost them not only my business, but the business of the photography club I'm in. Backstory: In December of 2017 I purchased a second-hand Canon 5D with two batteries at a reasonable price for having the mirror-fix already completed. I wanted the older camera for fun shooting. I took the camera home and quickly found out that one of the batteries was wouldn't hold a charge at all (charged in a matter of minutes on the charger, but discharged in just a few shots on the camera). I took the camera back (within 24 hours) to speak with them about it. The other 5D cameras they had did not have the mirror fix, so I opted to return the camera and defective battery. Just over a month later, I saw that they had a 5D listed online in their system, so I went and purchased it (with two good batteries) to replace the one I returned with the defective battery. That camera has joined the rest of my gear that I use (e.i.: I kept it and use it). At the same time, one of their sales people talked me in to the Olympus micro four thirds system to replace my APS-C camera that I travel with. They had a used OMD EM-1 body, so I purchased it and a lens. I went home to start learning the system. After using it a bit, I found out that the back wheel of that body did not always register whenever you rotated it (sometimes it worked fine, sometimes it took 3 or 4 turns to get it to register the rotation). I took the body back to their shop to ask if it was an actual issue, or if it was simply that I just didn't know the camera body. The woman who helped me was very pleasant and confirmed that the camera was, in fact, defective and the wheel should not be doing that. I initiated a return on the defective camera since their sales person confirmed it didn't work as it should. The only other used EM-1 body they had was more expensive and I wasn't prepared to pay the difference. The next day I sold one of my Canon lenses to make up the difference in the cost of the two used bodies and to purchase an additional lens. I was standing AT THE REGISTER, CREDIT CARD IN HAND to complete the purchase of an OMD EM-1 body and another lens when Jim came out of the back and told me, quote, "I've tracked you and you're no longer allowed to return anything you purchase. Just so we're on the same page, your purchases are final". Keep in mind, I returned two bad items and REPURCHASED working versions of BOTH. In addition, they have a POSTED POLICY that any used equipment, defective or not, has a 24 hour return window. I tried to explain to him that the camera I returned the previous day was defective according to one of his sales people and that I was currently repurchasing a working model of the SAME camera (at a higher price), and he simply snapped "The policy stands". I cancelled the transaction and happily purchased the camera (and another two additional lenses) from their competitor. It's simply a matter of principle that you don't get on to customers for returning an item that doesn't function as it should and that was returned in accordance to their posted policy. I've spent big $$$$ on camera equipment, including from them, and I didn't know that asking for two additional purchases to work as expected was asking too much. read more
