After a hard day of being a tourist the wife and I thought this sounded a good place. Stopped in and what can I say, fresh really well made pies, with a good beer. Top. The staff and owner were really friendly and helpful. And most surprisingly of all, considering it in the middle of tourist central, it is very reasonably priced. The only thing that would have made this place better is if they had a screen to watch the Andy Murray match, instead the owner checked which of the local pubs were showing it, so we knew where to go. If you've walked around Temple Bar recently you may have noticed a quaint little pie shop. Although surrounded by bigger restaurants and pubs this place always seems packed with customers. It's as simple as it seems - you pick a pie and you eat it. You don't get any of that fancy starter, main, dessert malarkey (although they do have sides...). The pies themselves are quite nice from my experience thankfully. If you're looking for a place for a quick and cheap bite to eat in Temple Bar then this is probably the place for you. read more

If you're in need of a quick and cheap meal in town this is a great shout! The meal deal sweetens the deal, for €10 you get a side and a craft beer ;-) The pies are pretty damn good, lonely and moist on the inside with a crispy pastry coating. I got the Sunday dinner pie, which had chicken, veg, and stuffing. The last time I was here it was a very quiet weekday evening and they didn't have a large selections of sides. Normally, there is a choice between mash potato, peas, wedges, and roast veg. The woman serving us was very friendly and more than willing to provide pie recommendations. While trying to find a place to get traditional Irish food that wasn't going to empty my wallet, I stumbled upon this little gem. Then I saw the word PIE and all thoughts of any other meals went out the window. And then I saw the prices were more than reasonable, and I figured anything stuffed with meat and came with potatoes on the side was going to fill me up. I was right! There were quite a few options to choose from, but I got the pork, apple and dijon pie, with mash and gravy. It was pretty good- I think however I was expecting a bit more sweetness from the apples to offset the dijon. The folks behind the counter were so incredibly nice! The place is quite tiny, and I had to squeeze myself into a table as there wasn't much room, but it made for a nice quiet break away from the madness that was happening outside! I would definitely return to this establishment (If I can find it- I tried to go back another day, and couldn't remember where it was.. Maybe it was all a dream?) We came across the Pieman Cafe from tripadvisor before our holiday to Dublin. Most people may not be surprised to know that as a major city, Dublin is quite expensive so trying to find a cheap place to eat can be quite hard. The Pieman Cafe is not expensive though. For €6 you can get a a pie of your choice, normally around 6 or 7 different pies. Each day they have pie of the day for €5. If a pie isn't enough, then take them up on their meal deal offer. For a pie, side, gravy and a sift drink €7.95, or for one of their craft beers, €9.95. Of course the best thing is the pie itself, I tried both the steak and pepper pie and the beef and Guinness pie. Both were great! A definite must for any traveller who doesn't wish to break the bank for some good grub! read more

Lovely pies and good deals. I got the Steak & Mushroom pie, which was excellent. A few things that didn't impress me: The plates were cold and I think this contributed to the gravy being not very warm The gravy wasn't very warm, which didn't contributed to the pie experience. The mash was very sloppy. The deal was 9.95 EUR for a pie, mash, gravy and a beer. A lovely Irish made craft beer at that too! Excellent value for money in tourist central (Temple Bar). Not a bad little place nestled in between all that's rubbish about Temple Bar. The pies are decent enough - not massive, but pretty filling. When I went in there around 5:30 there wasn't a great deal of stock left, but I went for the lamb and mint one and it hit the spot - nothing groundbreaking mind you, (and not as good as Pieminster pies) but tasty nonetheless, with a good shortcrust casing. The menu had pies with six or seven different fillings (I thought the chicken and Jameson sounded interesting!) so there's plenty of choice - a couple of veggie offerings too. They had bangers & mash and meatballs on as well, but to be honest they didn't look too great sweltering away under the heat lamps. The prices are fair (especially given its location): 6 euro for a pie & gravy, and 75c extra for additions such as mash, minted mushy peas, and roasted veg. The seating area is small, but well laid out and decorated with a quirky mix of pop-art and random bits & bobs. The lady serving was friendly enough too. Only gripe would be the drinks...don't advertise on the menu that you have "craft beer" if all you stock are cans of Guinness and poxy little bottles of Carlsberg. Bit of a shame really, as I can imagine a bottle or two of Irish/international craft ale would go down well. In all, a decent little spot - nothing to go wild about and won't be rushing back, but miles ahead of the crap places that surround it. read more

A rainy day in Dublin must. The pies were priced well and filling. For a family of 4 with a 5 and 7 year old we ordered 3 pies and 2 sides and had more than enough to eat. The sauce was delish and I haven't had a better pie. The only thing lacking for me was the ambiance. For such a hearty comforting meal the seating was modern and the styling gave off more of a deli vibe. Definitely a must for a family on a budget!!!! read more

We just strolled in assuming we could peruse some dessert pies and planned to elsewhere. After sticking our heads in and striking up a conversation with the girl behind the counter, Charlene, we changed plans and sat down to eat. The food was great, but the hospitality was the remarkable part. Charlene graciously gave us tons of advice on what to do, what to see, and what to avoid. This little whole in the wall deserves a standing ovation! We came here late in the day, very close to closing time, which meant that the choices of pies were limited. Unfortunately all the beef and Guinness pies where sold out (naturally), thus I settled for chicken and asparagus. Pies are served with mashed potatoes and smothered in liquid gold...I mean rich, flavourful gravy. The best of all, these pies pair perfectly with beer. But of course the pie is the star, and therefore I can't even remember the name of the beer was! The Pieman is a yummytastic addition to Dublin's better than fast food but not quite a full restaurant scene. The food is very tasty. There's a nice selection of pies to choose from along with mash or mushy peas as sides, oh and the gravey is only massive! Added bonus is that they serve Irish Craft Beer in the form of 8° Brewing. The soup we just ate was some of the most delicious soup I've ever had in my life. The warm roll that came with it was also extremely good. There was only one girl working, but she did an outstanding job of making sure that every customer's needs were met. She was so polite and accommodating. Looking for a decently-priced place for dinner near Temple Bar, my friends and I decided to stop by The Pieman Cafe. They have a really nice meal deal, and when I ordered the "pie-of-the-day," it was €1 cheaper than the other pies! The chicken, cheddar, and leek pie was very tasty and decently-sized, and an order of sides got me two scoops of mash with gravy or mushy peas (I got one scoop of each).
