Very good BBQ! I recently came here for lunch and had a very good meal. I went with a Carolina Pulled Pork sandwich, cornbread and the mac 'n cheese. The sandwich was awesome! I really enjoyed the Carolina sauce. Bonus: They have more sauces at the table. So I added a touch more of Carolina. The slaw on the sandwich was fantastic too. The mac n' cheese was awesome! Nice and creamy with a smokey note. Definitely try that for a side! Corn bread was good! Always a nice touch when eating BBQ. Inside of the restaurant is nice. There's a lot of cool rock memorabilia along with a screen that rotates pictures of some really cool older cars. Service was excellent; very friendly and my food came out quickly. I'm a bbq fan and this place does a great job at it. Now I have only been here a couple times and each time I had a variant of their pulled pork sandwiches but man I tell you they were executed really well and great flavors. So yeah the pulled pork is great the Mac cheese and coleslaw were also top quality and tasty. I look forward to exploring the menu more. As stated in other reviews service is quick and easy and the staff is upbeat and friendly. The seating is open and you can choose tables or booths. We were in the area for a concert and thought we'd give this place a try. The place had counter service for ordering which was fast and convenient. We sat in a booth and our food came out fast. I loved that there were four kinds of bbq sauces to choose from. The house was my favorite the Jamaican and heat/Spicy were too hot for me. We both selected two meat plates with brisket and burnt ends. Both were good but the burnt ends were the best. The cornbread side was delicious and the Mac in cheese was a HUGE hit probably our fave side of the 4 we tried. The coleslaw and potato salad were also good. We had Pig Rig cater our neighborhood 4th of July party and they were amazing. The food was absolutely fantastic and we had more than enough to feed a large crowd of 65. Brenna was so wonderful to work with and was able to consult on menu, quantities and amounts while working within our budget. They delivered right on time and took care of the whole setup. This was my first time trying The Pig Rig and the locals were right, this place is the best. The half rack of ribs combo was incredible. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender. The cowboy beans were superb with tons of smoky flavor and full of pulled pork. The cornbread was classically made and good. The cold-hard butter was a bummer. But the pig mac sandwich was really good. The bread was super soft, the macaroni was very tasty as was the pulled pork. Multiple sauces to choose from but the spicy bbq was my go to and it didn't disappoint. Will be trying new items the next time I'm close by. read more

We were traveling for work and the hotel suggested we check out Pig Rig. We were not disappointed! The BBQ baked beans were awesome. It is kind of unfair to just call them baked beans, there is so much going on that it could be the entree by itself. Whatever you get make sure that bbq baked beans is one of them. The brisket is shredded not sliced and I loved it (6) different sauces and they are all great. The food was awesome and the staff were just as great! This is tough review for me, I was pretty excited about going to this place based on the reviews. I must say I ended up being disappointed. I thought the place was pretty cool inside and the food co es out super fast. The guys at the counter were friendly so first impressions were good. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a meat combo. I figure, in my experience, a pulled pork sandwich says a lot about a BBQ place. I must say the pulled pork lacked flavor, it was just meh... the mac and cheese had a good texture but didn't have that much flavor. And the corn bread felt it was one of those you will buy at stop and shop. Now, I was not impressed, however my son who likes BBQ likes this place. So even though for me is a 2 star for him is 4, so a 3 average sounds about right. I may try a different meat in the future, so hopefully my experience will be different. read more

Lookin' for some good BBQ? The Pig Rig BBQ in Wallingford is the place for you. This is a place I would randomly crave. The pork, brisket, and chicken are smoked daily--tasty and juicy! Their sides are phenomenal too; smoked mac and cheese with pork and bacon mixed in, cornbread, coleslaw, potato salad, cheesy grits, and collard greens to name a few. They also have very good sauces to dunk into. My favorites are the spicy and tangy Carolina Gold sauce and Kansas City bbq sauce. Reading the menu and item descriptions are very entertaining. You can tell they had too much fun writing it up. The last time we had The Pig Rig BBQ we got takeout. It's always packaged well and warm. My husband got a Two Meat Combo Platter and chose Beef Brisket, Chicken Thighs, side of coleslaw and cornbread . I went for a pulled chicken sandwich, the Cluckin' D'lisious! It's topped with coleslaw, blue cheese and served with two sauce (Carolina Gold and Kansas City). I always make it a combo for a few bucks more. I got a side of mac and cheese and cornbread. The side portions are very big, scooped in 16 oz foam bowls. Besides the BBQ, my husband and I rave about the coleslaw. Firstly, it's bright purple-pink color that makes it visually awesome. The slaw is dressed perfectly, tangy and slightly sweet. The Pig Rig BBQ is a fantastic option near Wallingford area. I highly recommend giving them a try. I first heard of the "Pig Rig" on one of the "best in your state" lists for barbeque. I didn't quite expect it to be tucked into a strip mall, but there we were. The owner was right behind the counter greeting people, and genuinely interested in who we were and why we were there. They have a lot of options on the menu, and also their sauces available on the side if you want to try different flavors from what you ordered. Been meaning to try this place for a while but kept forgetting about it because it is situated just slightly away from Rt. 5 so I never drive by it. The people there were very welcoming from the time we walked in until the time we left so the service was a solid 5. I had a pulled pork sandwich with a side of Mac & cheese. Pork was excellent and the Mac & cheese was delicious as it had pieces of pork and bacon. My meal should have come with only one side but they also gave me baked beans...I like beans but don't normally get excited to eat them but these were fantastic! My husband had the 3 meat combo with ribs, chicken and brisket which he enjoyed. I had a bite of his brisket and definitely will get that next time. A lot of customers were picking up take out but they have a decent sized dining area with booths and tables (you order at the register and they bring it to your table). I've been aware of The Pig Rig BBQ for a while because of its 4.5 Star Yelp rating, and one of my area go to Yelp reviewers Jim C has reviewed it. What up Jim C? I was driving through the Wallingford area when I decided to call Pig Rig's number for some game day food. Pig Rig is one of several businesses in a Plaza full of them. The atmosphere is clean and appropriate for BBQ. Service was very friendly and efficient. I ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs, about 3/4 pound of brisket, potato salad, chili Mac and Mac and cheese to go. The ribs were meaty, tender, well-seasoned and sauced. I could single-out the taste of celery seed in the rub, which is good for me. The ribs did not have a prominent smoke flavor. The brisket was basically shredded. This is not the norm for BBQ places in my experience. Most places serve brisket in strips or chopped. I suspect BBQ purists will have a problem with this choice, but I'm all for you do you. The flavor was pretty good and the meat was juicy. I'm guessing the shredded meat was stored in meat juices to help keep it juicy. Again, I didn't note any smokiness. The Red Bliss potato salad was a highlight for me. Big chunks of potatos. Mayo and a bit of sweet pickle or relish flavor. Some fresh herbs. Very tasty. Here's a mind bender for you. I didn't love the Mac by itself. I didn't love the chili by itself. But for some reason, they worked well together in the chili Mac. The macaroni itself was cooked a bit more than I like. It seemed like a Velveeta type base with some other cheese. If you're looking for good barbecue, this place is the real deal. The restaurant has a nice spacious sitting area, and let me tell you this restaurant was immaculate. OK let's talk food. I ordered a half rack of ribs, side of mac & cheese with cornbread. The ribs were cook with a nice dry rub flavor to them, and then they add some house sauce on the bottom.Inside the meat was nice, and moist, and cooked to perfection. There was plenty of meat on the bone.There's a choice of four different sauces that you can add. I fell in love with their house sauce. Though I don't work near this place anymore I happened to be driving by yesterday so as I usually do, I made a stop in. Pig Rig is still serving up the same great BBQ and very little has changed since the first visit I made almost 9 years ago (and dozens of times since). Staff, as always, are great and it looked like they've added a few people. I knew they opened the dining room space next door but was surprised to see it renovated with a modern/sleek/casual feel. Bottles of sauce sit at all the tables and booths along with the other BBQ essential, napkins :) While it looks like it's still a work-in-progress it is going to the next level. Pig Rig serves up solid BBQ ribs, I like the fact that the ribs had a bit of exterior textured bark while the interior was soft without being mushy. PR has a separate condiment area with a variety of regional bbq sauces which is an added bonus. The cornbread was tasty, certainly not Southern style but it passes muster up here in New England. We ordered pulled pork, brisket, burnt ends, potato salad, corn bread and beans. The pulled pork was mostly fat, it was hard to enjoy since there wasn't much meat or flavor. The burnt ends weren't like the burnt ends we normally get, they lacked flavor and they weren't burnt. The corn bread and potato salad were decent but overall I wouldn't go back. Let's start off by saying that they have Burnt Ends! To make it even more special, they offer it as a platter (mind blown) with two sides!! We came to eat after a 13 mile bike ride on the Farmington Canal Rail Trail. Food was ahhhmazing. The meats were perfectly smoked and melts in your mouth. There's a BBQ sauce bar to satisfy all your tastebuds. Save room for dessert! They have sliced cakes available but we didn't plan accordingly and have to return to try them.
