    Fungi Burger
    Jason P.

The Wright Way's Yelp profile stood out when I did a Hamden area search earlier this year. Burgers. Wings. A High Overall Rating. All things I love. I recently found time to visit. Wright Way is small and more functional than nice, but there is some cool branding and the place has a very friendly vibe. I'm the only person who dined in, but while I was there, there were a number of people there for takeout orders. The Wright Team was very kind and accommodating while I there. I ordered a Fungi Burger, which was a double beef smash burger, grilled onions, sautéed shrooms, garlic sauce and Swiss Cheese on a standard bun. The smash burgers were not cooked to the point of char. For a double smash burger, it didn't look particularly big, but each of the components was very good. And the burger was better than the sum of its parts. The fries were good too. I also ordered a Small Wings, with dry rub and BBQ Sauce, and Alabama Sauce (a white sauce) on the side. We must have had a misunderstanding about the sauces, because they came with dry rub and all sauces on the side. Not a big deal. I sauced the wings at the table. The wings are smoked, but there wasn't a strong smoke flavor. They had the texture of smoked wings, but the outer texture was still good too. The meat wasn't dry at all. The Wright Way was nice enough to accommodate all my crazy sauce requests. Blue Cheese or Ranch. I tried both, and I'm going to tell you that a side of Alabama White Sauce is the way to go. A nice bit of horseradish. Very flavorful. I can definitely see returning even though I don't live in the area. If you live nearby, you should definitely visit and start exploring the Burgers, Sandwiches, Wings, Breakfast Sandwiches, etc. 4.5 Stars

Saw them on social media and happened to be in the area so I decided to stop in and give them a try. Ordered a breakfast sandwich for dinner and some wings...yeah why not it was wing day Wednesday when wings are $1.00 each. Ordered the hot honey, Buffalo and I asked for a surprise order of wings. Yes sandwich was delicious it seems like the hash brown set it over the top yummy. The wings were really good, the hot honey was perfect and the Buffalo ones really hit the spot. I think they had like 10 varieties of sauces for the wings. Worth a try and really nice friendly service. My take out order was ready in no time. Will be back to try the other different sauces.

My friend and I thought we would grab a bite for dinner from here and I'm so happy that we did! There is an extensive selection of beers, ciders, and specialty cocktails. The food menu also offers something for everybody! I decided to give the birria tacos special a try, while my friend ordered the smoked meatloaf sandwich. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The tacco meat was so tender and I tried a bite of my friend's meatloaf which was so good that I may order it next time! Our waitress was also kind and helpful! Although chilly in here, we had a nice time. My parents loved the food too which was great. Tonight I got the Arepa which apparently, I won't get again because it's the second time I've had it (not here the first time) and didn't care for it. The pulled pork on top was good though I just don't care for the dish itself. A bit bland. My picture unfortunately didn't come out good for that dish. My dad got the Panko Crusted Fish Sandwich and my mom got the nachos. They loved what they got. I've been in the past and had the pizza, the poutine, pork belly sandwich, etc. I'd love to try the crab dip and whipped ricotta someday. Fun spot.

Plenty of cheese which I will never complain about but lacking enough basil. Truly just a couple sad leaves in there. Ultimately it was really more of a mozzarella sandwich. This place was extremely disappointing…read more I've had their bread at local restaurants and always thought it was excellent, which is what motivated me to visit in person. Over the past few months, I tried stopping by three separate times, twice they were already closed, and once they had completely sold out of bread. I finally made it there on a Sunday morning, and they had only one loaf left, and not a type I wanted. We decided to order two egg and cheese sandwiches (one with turkey bacon). Both were terrible. The rolls were soft, soggy, wet, and flavorless. Each sandwich had a single egg placed off-center, so half the roll barely had any egg at all. The turkey bacon was so bad we removed it and threw it out. Normally, I would have just moved on and not returned. But what really pushed me to write this review (which I never write) was the carrot cake we purchased. We took it home, refrigerated it, and tried it later that evening. It was, without question, the worst piece of carrot cake I've ever had. The frosting was hard, dry, stale, and completely lacking flavor, no sweetness at all. The cake itself was equally bad: dry, crumbly, and utterly tasteless. There was no hint of carrot, cinnamon, nutmeg, or any spice, just bland, dry crumbs. The cake was completely lacking sugar. After two bites, we threw it in the garbage. I don't say this lightly. I've been cooking and baking for decades, hold a degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management, and spent over 20 years in the industry. I've traveled extensively and eaten outstanding food around the world. For me, someone who genuinely loves desserts, to throw cake away (which is rare) says everything. I understand it was a Sunday and that fresh baking may not be happening that day, but it's simply not acceptable to sell baked goods from prior days that are clearly stale. Even more concerning than the staleness however, was the complete lack of flavor in the product. The sandwiches were disappointing, but that cake was on another level. I won't be returning for sandwiches or desserts, but perhaps the bread.

Jamshed worked in the fishing industry as a young man, but dreamed of working in the restaurant business. He came to the United States in 1989 and worked for a vending machine business. He finally entered the food industry in 2000 when he started "Mughali Foods": a food cart that prepared Indian and Pakistani food. In 2003, Jamshed became the owner of Noor Mahal, an Indian restaurant in Orange, but continued to run the food cart. He sold the restaurant three years later to focus exclusively on the food cart operation. He later dubbed it "Ali Baba's Fusion" and shifted the menu to halal Middle Eastern cuisine. At one point, Jamshed even had six Ali Baba food carts operating around New Haven. The Kalids opened a brick & mortar location in Hamden in 2014. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, the couple cut down their food cart division to a single cart and put most of the focus on the brick & mortar location which was rebranded as "Ali Baba's Kitchen". The menu was also augmented to focus on healthier food options. A second location opened in North Haven in 2025. My wife and I recently ordered take-out from Ali Baba's North Haven location for New Year's Eve. We had previously sampled food from the Hamden location, as well as their New Haven food cart, but this was our first time getting food from the North Haven location. We were excited to try because it's only a five minute drive from our house. The newer location is nice but it is a bit on the smaller side. I would imagine that most of their business is take-out as opposed to dine-in. I ordered the "Bites Chick Bowl" (lemon chicken & beef gyro served on a base of rice & pita strips, topped w/ lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, chickpeas, cucumbers, feta cheese, drizzled w/ ABK sauce), my wife had the "Running Foodie Bowl" (ginger chicken & chicken kebab on basmati rice & pita strips, topped w/ tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, feta cheese, and ABK sauce), and we also shared some "Samosas" (with tamarind sauce and chana masala). As I've stated in a previous review, we think that the food at Ali Baba's is sensational and we plan to order from them again and again!
