I needed a pizza fix and I got it at the pizza box. Since all the other places is a ways off i dropped by here. They can make just about any size pizza here, I know they make the biggest in the area. It does take them a while to get it baked so call ahead for your order. The old lady growls at you but don't be scared when you order or pay and and don't let the looks of the place deter you. I waited in my car because my order wasn't ready the lady son came out and brought it to me which was cool. And yes, I still go to golfland from time to time. My cousin told me about this place so we went over there. So Mom wanted pizza for her birthday. I didn't want Little Ceasar's but I didn't want to go very far or have delivery. So I yelped on the BF's iPhone and found The Pizza Box. I ordered a large (bf's suggestion!) pizza that's half Hawaiian and half vegetarian (what Mom wanted). Then I went to go pick it up. It's this tiny hole in the wall in the plaza next to Golfland. Totally old school with their old games and limited seating. But they were nice and prompt. Yes, the scary Viet lady was pretty nice to me. The pizza itself was really good! My mom loved it and the pizza was devoured by end of the next day. I don't think I'm ever going to older the larger sizes unless I'm bringing something to feed more than 10+ at a potluck. read more

After a long day of running errands with my beloved, he asked me where I wanted to grab a bite to eat. At first I said the Great Mall just opened an Olive Garden ... ... hahahaha yeah right. It was straight freezing when we stepped inside, due to the fact that her door was propped open and it seemed that no one cared enough to close it. Stepped pass the vintage Bubble Drop, Galaga, and Metal Slug(*heart*) games and straight to the counter. The place was definitely small, but I wouldn't say cramped. I haven't had Pizza Box in so long, so I wanted to go with their pepperoni, yum! My bf ordered a slice with ham, pineapple, and anchovies(what?!). There was quite a wait for the slices, but when I peeked into the kitchen, I saw her washing and chopping an onion and tomato just before sprinkling them over a veggie pizza. Whoa! Fresh! I can become impatient when there are lazy employees but how could I get mad when she's working by herself? Well three pizzas pass us by and we barely noticed because of all of the shop gazing we were immersed in. I mean duck and pond wall paper?! Haha zamn... She comes by to wipe our tables down as our pizzas are finishing up. We get our slices and dig right in. DELICIOUS! I mean whoa. The dough was thin but still strong enough to not FLOP over when picked up. The cheese was extra gooey and the sauce was just right (not too much and not absent). I like my pepperoni pizza to have pepperoni but not so much that you're getting pepperoni grease on your face when you bite in. All the complaints about this place are the exact reasons why I LOVE IT! I grew up in Milpitas and after 8 years of living in the bubble that is Orange County, I just had to visit the Pizza Box. It's amazing how after 8 years, not much has changed.. actually, NOTHING has changed. The same lady who took my order at a tender age of 7 was still there. She may seem crabby, but the place would not be the same without her. She also never has to ring up the register since she just knows by heart how much everything is no matter what you order. I'm a "slice of cheese, please" kind of girl and it's the largest in town for a little under $3. They serve alcohol but the best is the selection of old school carbonated drinks. They have RC cola, Sunkist, Grape soda, Tahitian punch but I couldn't resist the College Dorm staple of POG (passion fruit-orange-guava)!! The pizza box displays on the wall are still there but completely faded. I always wanted to buy an Uncle Sam or King Kong pizza... maybe one day. The greasy tables and sticky chairs are only a tiny topping to the charm of the place. The same 3 video arcade games are there such as Konami lightning fighter and Galaga '88! But even if those can't fulfill your gaming needs the G-land is just across the parking lot. If I could wrap myself in any box in the world it would be the Pizza Box! read more

Strangely enough, one of my best friends, Michael, suggested we go grab pizza earlier last week since I was in the area. He wanted to surprise me and kept repeating over and over how amazing this particular pizza place was for their custom slices that were like four of my heads mashed together in one. So, with a bit more of "dragging me out to the car," I agreed. And oh, was I surprised. Flashbacks ran through my mind as we placed our orders. Me (slice of tomatoes and green peppers), Michael(slice of pepperoni), both for a well-rounded $8. This was the go-to place for pizza in my childhood other than Chuckie E. Cheese while my folks were still together. Countless hours spent at Golfland, then a quick trip down the road for pizza. The random floral wallpaper, the brown board above our heads listing the numerous toppings on one side, pricing on the other, along with the taped specials right below. The old school arcade games by the door, the dull wood tables, the still broken jukebox. Two stubborn little kids(the little brother and I over ten years ago) exhausted and sitting with their folks at the table by the window, waiting on their slice as the two bicker with each other who did the best at mini-golf or what cool prizes we won from the arcade. Yeah, it's the same small place I remember it as. Pizzas were finally ready after about a 20min. wait - Yes, they were huge - and no, I didn't mind the wait since I knew the man was making it fresh(+.5). Took a bite and realized, dang - I'm a picky eater. Not a fan of the sauce(it had a tang to it, and I don't like this "tang") or the texture of the dough(thick and puffy more preferred) - toppings however were evenly spread and had big chunks of tomatoes(+.5 for a tomato fan). So I guess you can say it's a solid slice especially at $4, not bad. I had difficulty finishing the slice because it got way too messy for me so I had my friend help me. He said it was better than the pepperoni, and suggested getting more of the fresher ingredients next time. Will I return? Maybe, just for just the memories and to support mom and pop' joints. I HAD to have pizza last night, and when I did a Yelp search, everyone raved about The Pizza Box's tasty pizza. I also read how many of you think the place is disgusting and that the lady is angry. My S.O. and I decided to brave it anyway. Honestly? I was expecting the worst, and it really wasn't that bad. The place itself is a throwback to the local pizza joint from my '80s childhood. Yes, it could be updated. It could be cleaner. But that's part of the charm. I think other Yelpers need to chill a little about the "dirt." I also went there knowing the woman is no nonsense, so I ordered as if I were getting soup from Seinfeld's Soup Nazi. Medium. Three toppings. Boom, boom, boom. Money out. That worked well. What did surprise me, however, is how long it actually took to get the pizza after ordering. Truly 25-30 min. Not sure why it took so long, unless they were backed up with take-out orders. The wait was completely worth it. The pizza itself was DELICIOUS. Hearty, full crust with a great topping-to-crust ratio. The toppings fell off while eating it, but it didn't matter, since I generally use a fork and knife on my pizza anyway. Two slices were plenty to fill me up. And then I ate a 3rd because it was so good. I'm definitely planning to order again from here in the future. Next time, though, I'll call ahead to avoid waiting there. The lady there scares me! Although they do take card, she will give you a mean look if you don't use cash. ($15 card minimum) She can be mean, I've been going there for years, and I've probably only seen her smile 1 or 2 times. But don't take it personal, she's like that to everyone. The other guy who works there is pretty cool. The pizzas are huge and damned tasty. The crust has a slight buttery taste to it. AWESOME! The slices can take ages, so don't come here if you cannot wait for the food. The airplane arcade game 1st player controls are kinda screwed, but the second player side is good to go. And their jukebox, which takes up like 1/5 of the eating area has got some really good CDs in there. Worth the buck for 3 songs. My boyfriend always tells me how great this place is. He repeats the same story over and over again to me when this place is mentioned- "When I got my slice of cheese pizza, it was huge and hella good! But make sure you blow on it first because I burnt my tongue!!" We just came there today to order 3 slices of pizza- cheese, hawaiian, combo. It was pretty late so the owner didn't have any individual slices left. She then proceeded to give us a pretty good discount- a whole medium box (which actually was a large!) with 1/3 of each kind of pizza we wanted, for the price of $13.50. :) The only downside was that it took foreverrr to make. There was an old school boom box and I got suckered in to purchasing 3 songs. 1.) John Mayer- Why Georgia 2.) Led Zeppelin- Stairway to Heaven 3.) Britney Spears feat. I've been to this place countless of times. I have never been so upset before. Although the pizza is cheap, it's smothered, drenched in oil upon receiving it. My friend called for their order, which was two slices of pepperoni but forgot to order mine so I called shortly after. Not even 5 minutes, keep that in mind. As soon as she picked up, I asked her for a slice and she abruptly said "i'm not making any slices, so you have to come in and order." Something along those lines because it's hard to understand through her thick accent and i'm Vietnamese. So okay at this point I was furious but I said ok and hung up. Went for the first time today. The crust makes the pizza for me and the crust here is the best I have had on this coast!!! The owner reminds me of the soup nazi guy from Seinfeld but it gives the place flavor. Only one other place I have had pizza makes me want to go back so much. But that's all the way in the Mission. The single slice is huge. The crust is done perfectly crisp on the bottom and soft above. OOOHHHHH can't wait to go back!!! The pizza has always been piled with fresh ingredients, and is never skimped on. I've been here many times over the span of 10 years. People that have been going there for years know not to expect spectacular service, but an awesome pizza. Everyone knows about the "mean lady" at the counter. Please don't be deterred by her. The Pizza Box is a very appropriate name. Like a literal pizza box, this establishment is cramped, hot, and oily. The floors are sticky and the tables have crumbs all over them. The menu is missing letters. The arcade machines rarely work and are from 1991. The staff is hard to understand and prone to yelling at you from the back of the "restaurant." Very interesting people (people I like to refer to as rapscallions and vagabonds, even though they aren't, but it's fun to say) linger out front and stare at you. But... I can see why people give this place good reviews but after eating it the stars came down. When I ordered it they said 20 min we got there in 20 min and had to wait another 20 min. That's ok because I got to see how she made the pizza. I ordered a large Combo. They make the dough fresh for each pizza which is awesome and tasted delicious (when eaten immediately). They load the pizza with toppings galore. I would like that if the toppings were a little fresher I mean I paid over $20,,, that should warrant a quality Pizza, and Quality Toppings. THe cheese was not very good, and everything else seems like it was pre frozen. Even though the dough was fresh, it wasn't cooked enough and became very soggy and greasy, I had to eat with fork. They don't use a ribboned paper at bottom of box so the crust soaks up all the grease and becomes wet and oily. Yuk! I know what you're thinking. It looks janky, the video games are way outdated, and there's no way there's quality pizza in this joint. Well, you'd be wrong. This place has the BEST pizza around the South Bay. I have been coming here for three years, and I just keep coming back for more. It's hard for me to describe it, but I will try. The sauce is not salty, not too sweet. The toppings are generous. And they don't put an overabundance of cheese. And that would describe an average pizza. The honest to goodness thing that really sets this place apart is the crust. The crust is simply AMAZING. It's not thin crust, it's not thick either. It's this perfectly baked piece of art where there's a hint of crispness to the crust, and this amazingly soft bread that's has a hint of sweetness to it. Like some of the best sweet french bread you ever had just covered with a massive amount of toppings. I love it so much, I have it on speed dial on my mobile. And the sideshow aspect of this joint, they have your normal pizza sizes. S, M, L, XL and then they go into King Kong which is a 36" beast followed by Uncle Sam at a whopping 48". We ordered the extra large combination. I had to give it 2 stars because the pizza was good, but the service was HORRIBLE!!!! This Asian lady looked like she was pissed because probably her son got a B on his math test. Loveeee pizza box besides the longish wait time. I recommend calling and picking up since there's only one person working all the time. I honestly don't even like pizza but this is the only exception. Dump - Yes. Hole in the Wall - That's a deep ass hole (though not ass wide). Dive - The deepest part of the abandoned pool. Mom and Pop - Well, maybe just Mom, though not as loving or PMSing. Despite all of this, The Pizza Box continues to churn out great slices. What makes this a f-star (5) destination? These are not those pre-made slices in the display under the heating lamps. When you order a slice, its rolled dough with a very bright pizza sauce. I noticed both when I ordered a slice of sausage and mushroom. Both toppings were piled high instead of spread around. The dough was fresh albeit a little underdone at the edges. Not a major foul. The whole construction folded nicely and was put down easily. Definitely an institution if not a landmark altogether. Pizza Box has been around for more than 20 years. The inside hasn't changed much and the sign board above the counter hasn't changed except for a few missing letters. The inside is pretty much the same except for maybe the remodel at best guestimates about 15 years ago where the new owners at the time wanted to keep the white walls but instead of paint made over the walls with tile. Sort of like public bathroom meets pizzeria. But then again, the strip mall where Pizza Box is located has been in decline as well. That shouldn't be a deterent to a great meal however. Even the Chinese place next door is Michelin rated. But then again, what does a guy in a rubber suit slinging tires know about good food. My boyfriend was in Milpitas on business and I was visiting. After a long day at the office for him and a long day of sightseeing for me, we were in his hotel room wanting something close and cheap that wasn't fast food. After doing some research on Yelp we decided on The Pizza Box. I was really trying hard not to laugh when I walked in and immediately recognized the "Pizza Nazi." She wasn't SO bad, but definitely not one for chit-chat. While we waited on our pizza I told my boyfriend I was going to pop some money into the jute box and he was like "do you think we should? She might get pissy." Psssh, my response to him was "if she doesn't want music playing, she should get rid of the box." Although the place is teeny tiny, I like that they have the jute box and some old school arcade games. I agree that it's not the cleanest place, but whatever...the pizza made up for the dirtiness. This was some REALLY great pizza. The portion sizes are huge. I think we ordered a large and it was more than enough. We ate it fresh from the oven - hot, cheesy, gooey, yumminess. Fantastic! It's just a few mins walking distance from my house, and I heard the slices were huge, so I decided to try this place out. I ordered the lunch meal for ~$6-7, which includes 2 slices and a drink. Two pepperonis for me. While I waited, there was actually a couple there that was complaining out loud about how long it took for their pizza to get ready. When my slices came out, I was surprised at the sheer size of each piece! 1 slice is about equal to 2 or 3 large slices from a famous brand pizza. My two slices filled up 1/2 the pizza box they provided me with. My pepperoni pizza was very tasty and the bread was soft and chewy. I'm scared of the lady who works there, but this pizza is probably the best pizza in Milpitas. Really! I will take Pizza Box over the other pizza places any day, and I will probably end up paying less for the same amount of pizza as well. I usually just order slices, and each one is so huge that it has to be served on one of those orange cafeteria trays from grade school (Remember those?) rather than a normal plate. I know this is a pizza joint but I didn't get the pizza. My gf really wanted pizza so we went anyway. So she got her small pizza and I order their lasagna and omg.. I wish I didn't see how they made it.. They literally grabbed a frozen lasagna from some tiny fridge and threw it in the microwave. I thought Oh well, you know? I messed up by ordering lasagna in a pizza joint... So while it was getting microwaved I thought it's all good, I've had bomb ass microwaved lasagna from Safeway... But boy was I wrong! This tasted like they oven cooked it, over burnt it, then kept it in the fridge and put it up in their"special" menu just to microwave it later for the customers... The pizza here is probably one of the best I've had. It wasn't too greasy.. Not too much cheese... They didn't skimp on the toppings. The crust was perfectly crispy/chewy. Wish we lived closer. It's a small no fuss place that also serves beer, and has some old arcade games in it. But don't plan on bringing a big party here to hang out. There isn't a lot of space. Also, yes, the lady that works there is not very friendly, but it's probably a culture thing or whatever. She doesn't have the best customer service skills. Honestly, their pizza is phenomenal. So I'll still be nice to her no matter what. She just needs to keep making pizzas.. Leave the smiling to her customers. read more

My brother and I were in town so we decided to hit up the old Pizza Box off Jacklin. We already tried it once before after the change of ownership. The pizza is definitely not the same after the change. Pizza was very dry and lacked flavor. We decided to give it another shot today thinking that maybe they were just having an off day the last visit. We went in and it was completely void of all guests, we stood there patiently waiting to get our order taken. There was an employee less than 5 ft from us standing there playing with some pepperoni. He glanced over at us a few times but still didn't even bother to say hang on or I'll be right there. 10 mins go by so I decided to grab a seat while my brother continued to wait in the empty line. While sitting down I noticed 2 other employees in the back along with the pepperoni fiddler. Pepperoni fiddler looks over at me and still doesn't acknowledge my existence. After a few more mins I decided to leave, so I get up and tell my brother to let's leave. As I'm walking out I decided to scream out "thanks for the great service guys!!!" The 3 people start to talk to each other as we walk out and one even comes out to ask what happed when my brother and I are already in the car getting ready to leave. I open my window and told the guy what happened and he just stands there giving me the same look the pepperoni Fiddler did when we first arrived. So much for trying to give them another chance. Unless you enjoy getting stared at whole some dude is playing with pepperoni I don't recommend coming back to this place anymore. Pizza was trash and so was the service. Little Caesars down the street was better and offers better service than th NEW Pizza Box. read more
