We're not usually pizza-for-lunch people, but on a recent trip through Lusk we decided to stop at The Pizza Place and we're not disappointed! What looks like a hole-in-the-wall from the exterior is surprisingly spacious and attractive inside. And after being in our car for several hours, we enjoyed eating in a shaded alcove/patio. We noticed a lot of locals coming in while we were here, which generally tells you a lot about the quality of food. The pizzas we ordered had lots of toppings, a nice crispy bottom crust, and were piping hot when delivered to the table. I would have liked a little more flavor on the Gourmet Chicken (add garlic or a sauce, maybe?) but the Deluxe was good, and overall the meal was delicious! read more

Found this place a haven on the way up to the North Hills. Super tasty pizza with a decent thick crust, choice of sauces and various sizes including individual. Okay, I'm in the middle of nowhere Wyoming. The eats here are sparse at best. I live outside Chicago and eat great pie all the time. I ordered the Calzone and was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the crust tasted. The cheeses actually included RICOTTA. I know most of you will say that's normal but it truly is not if you get out of the city. I have nothing but great things to say about this little place. My husband and I stumbled upon the Pizza Place in Lusk after I began having a blood sugar melt down in the car. What a lucky day for us! The decor is awesomely small town and so comfortable. The food is AMAZING! We ate like kings, enjoying pizza, bread, wings and salad. The homemade sauce and crust were so yummy! The staff is kind and we had excellent service even though it was packed on a Friday for lunch time. This place is great, but off the beaten path so if you have some time check it out it's about 45 min off if I-25. read more

Anytime we pass through Lusk, we always stop here for lunch or dinner. We usually order the pan pizza. Delicious crust and sauce. Just read a review where someone said there was too much cheese. Um, not a problem with us! We got here on a Monday at 11:10am (they open at 11) and the line was already 10 deep. In addition to pizza, I had the chicken veggie salad. The half portion is huge! Well seasoned chicken, olives and banana peppers served with a warm breadstick made a satisfying lunch. They also have a local selection of on tap craft beer. The Wild BIll Rye was delicious and at $4 a pint, a great deal. The front patio is a nice place to sit, protected from the wind, comfortable and clean. read more

We ordered traditional calzones and they were quite tasty, but small... Not 8 inches like the menu says. Especially considering the girl who took our order said they were large. It's weird that they ask you whether you want "regular" (i.e. canned) mushrooms or fresh mushrooms. Who prefers canned mushrooms? My boyfriend and I both left wanting more food, which we shouldn't have for what we paid. Were both also pretty portion conscious eaters (don't frequent the Golden Corral or anything) so it's not like we were expecting calzones the size of our table to fill our enormous appetites. They were about the size of two large slices of pizza each..maybe. Prices were surprisingly high. We were originally going to get a pizza but nearly $20 for 12" and $30 for $16 inch threw us off. Calzones were $10 each. Beers were reasonable and they have a good selection of craft beers. I had a local Ten Sleep porter for about $4. Service wasn't really there... We ordered food at a counter, it was brought to us quickly - no "is there anything else I can get for you?" or checking in to make sure we were ok. The food was just placed abruptly on the table and the server left ASAP. We left a 20% tip on counter service so we aren't quite sure why. As a former server I'd be happy to receive a full-service sized tips for counter service. All-in-all if I'm hungry and heading through Lusk again I may stop by, but I will probably try somewhere else. If it was in a town with more options I probably wouldn't return. If you're willing to spend a lot on a pizza then they looked really good, but probably not worth it if you have other options. read more

The pizza is pretty good - nice and crisp with good toppings, though the sauce on my pizza was a little too watery and sweet. Their chicken wings are awesome with the bleu cheese sauce. For a small town, the Pizza Place is big flavor!! Everything is made fresh and there is love put into their food. The wings are delicious and I haven't had a pizza yet that I didn't like. The local special is chicken & pickle with white sauce which sounds weird but is really good surprisingly. They're not open on Sundays and they're not open that late but it's worth trying to find a time to go there. You really can't go wrong with anything you order. On the desolate road to Mount Rushmore, Lusk is one of the few towns you drive through that offers some dining options. There wasn't much there, so it was either a diner or pizza. We opted to give the pizza place a whirl. The Pizza Place offers pizza and sandwiches, all at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, the staff aren't quite on top of their game. Initially the missus' and I were going to order a calzone to split. So the cashier asks what we want in it, and we say broccoli. She then says "is that all?" and I said, "yeah, that's good." Then she says "well I'm only asking because we don't have ricotta." How do you even attempt to sell a calzone when you don't have ricotta in the first place?! So we then decided to each get our own personal pizzas. I was shocked when the missus' ordered hers with mushrooms, and was then asked if she wanted them fresh or canned. Who wants to eat a nasty canned mushroom?! So the pizzas themselves come out after about fifteen minutes (we wasted the time playing with the Where's Waldo books) and they looked pretty tasty. At first bite they were really good. The sauce wasn't sweet, the crust was crisp and the pizza was very cheesy. However, it's definitely too much cheese, and at the end of the day we all had cheese remorse. I only had about 2 1/2 slices of my 4-slice pizza and was feeling stuffed. It's a decent enough place if you're craving pizza, but just be warned that it will give your weekly allowance of cheese. read more

As per the other reviews: We were driving through Lusk, WY on our way back from Mt. Rushmore and felt a burst of hunger. Seeing as this was literally the only town on our route for another 100 miles or so, we decided to see what they had to offer. We decided upon the aptly named "The Pizza Place," as our other choices were, well, non-existent. Three pizza-snobs from NY were supremely down with this pizza. It was good, not just for where it was from, but in general. Now a non-asshole review: You get a thick, but not overly so thin-crust pizza, with plenty of flavorful cheese, and a rich sauce. The pepperoni was a bit sparse, but that's just me being picky. The pricing is ultra low, as is EVERYTHING in Wyoming, and the beer selection was enough to keep us all happy. Especially those of us who didn't have to drive. The only downside, in my opinion, is that they didn't take credit cards. read more

Simple pizza shop with big pizzas. We got one of the house specialties with tons of veggies, sausage & pepperoni. The food was good, we even took left overs to go. They had Fat Tire on tap which was a plus. The staff was friendly, prices reasonable (a little over $20 for two beers and large, loaded pizza) and they had atlases by the front counter. We stopped on our way x-country and discovered that cellphone reception & Google Maps were not reliable in Wyoming, so the atlases came in handy. read more
