Another wonderful meal here. It's truly authentic, traditional Italian fare, sometimes with a creative twist. We came with friends. The casual yet cozy atmosphere prompts fun conversation. There's a nice old world ambiance about it. Perusing the menus we first chose a carafe of wine, a Barbera. Having it before here we find it hearty and bold. For the table we shared a house salad which was fresh and well made. There was plenty for four of us. Tasty bread was brought to the table along with oil/vinegar and herbs on a plate. My main course selection was the Maccheroni e Formaggio, spiral pasta (macaroni) with a rich sauce, lots of cheese and breadcrumbs. I got it with meatballs which I highly recommend. The dish was delicious and very filling. For dessert I chose the cannoli which has been my favorite. Unfortunately, this time it tasted dry and the middle of the shell was hard as a rock. Food is 10/10!!! Absolutely everything we've tried from appetizers to salads to pizza to desserts, everything is absolutely delicious!! The lasagna is next level--probably the best I've ever had! Gelato is out of this world!! Ambiance is 0/10. The last time we went, we got sat in that sunroom, which is like trying to have a nice dinner under the fluorescent lights in an office building--very off-putting. Our table was squished into the corner next to another table squished into the corner. The people next to us were having a conversation so loud that we couldn't hear each other or speak to each other without literally screaming. Don't get me started on the horrific live music. It was terrible!! Fantastic food, but the overstimulation is ridiculous. It's like trying to have an upscale meal with your table sitting right in the middle of Trader Joe's on a Sunday afternoon with a dentist's headlamp pointed at your face. Went to celebrate a family bday dinner. They said us right away and even slightly earlier with our reservation a the place was packed for a Sunday night. The restaurant feels like a mom and pops restaurant and service was great and friendly. Entrees did take awhile to come out so I highly recommend ordering some appetizers so you aren't waiting hungry. I had the pizza with caramelized onions, sausage and garlic chili oil. It was nice and spicy but It did feel a bit heavy without alot of veggies on the pizza. My husband tried the creamy mushroom pasta which was light and good. The clam linguine was also cooked perfectly with a good amount of clams in it. For appetizer: definitely try their focaccia bread. Great little spot with authentic Italian food with fresh ingredients you can taste! I ordered the fresh ricotta filled gnocchi which far exceeded my expectation topped with Gorgonzola cream sauce. I opted to add grilled chicken on top. My husband ordered the ravioli's which offered the perfect portion for a large man lol We are shared the bruschetta which was served with the most incredible pesto I've ever tasted! I always enjoy visiting here for some great Italian, but often forget to get there early on a Friday or Saturday for the lasagna. Even if you miss out on that, there are some other great options like they're short rib, dishes, love their focaccia bread, but you could also just swoop in for a time to relax and enjoy their great variety of wines. The porcetta with polenta was excellent, and the 'Italian jambalaya' Papa's rice pot makes it tough to ever order anything else on the menu. We had seen this before, thought about coming in, did Daniello's for a special occasion and that was the final push to get us in. Wow.... The Place did not disappoint!! Was truly hyped up prior to going after having take out and hearing many great things. Picked out a Friday evening to go so we could get the lasagna (only serves on Fri and Sat, go early... limited pans made). Unbelievable light pasta layered with fresh made ricotta and served with their meaty bolognese sauce, was incredible!!! Gnocchi, cheesey garlic bread, and more.... All phenomenal!!! Specialty cocktail list is deep and a great wine list by the glass or bottle. Loved the location in Central Roseville, older buildings with great character. Our friends took us here a couple of weeks ago. My friend's husband is from the East Coast and huge Red Sox fan, so he wanted to support this family-owned business from Boston. I'm ready to go back for more soft, delicious foccacia dipped in olive oil and basalmic vinger and tasty meatballs named Everybody Love's Mikey's Big Balls lol. We sure did! My friend and I shared the Caesar Salad. I paused and cursed after my first bite, then put my fork down to praise this simple and superb salad. That home made dressing was the best. We also shared the Woodsman Pizza with mushrooms, sausage, and pepperoni in a cream sauce. It was great, but then my husband shared a bite of his Wicked Diavolo pizza. That was the winner with hot honey, chorizo, mortadella and hot peppers. The honey took it over the top. It wasn't too spicy and I didn't need my Pepto chewables! My son loved his Boscaiola with cream sauce, mushrooms, and the same tasty sausage that was in our pizza. Our table also shared two of their pistachio and chocolate cannolis for dessert. The shells were pretty hard but the filling and flavors were good. I prefer a delicate crunch and my friend preferred her grandma's. Old Roseville is filled with cute shops, and some cool restaurants. We hadn't tried The Place yet, and decided to grab some food to go. We had perused the menu before walking in, and decided to order some sandwiches and dessert. We found out that they no longer offer sandwiches! Even the wait staff was bummed that sandwiches aren't on the menu! We opted for two calzones to go. I opted out of ordering dessert, because it's crazy to pay $12.00 for one small cannoli. The meatball calzone and the sweet pig were boxed up for us, with added marinara sauce and the fig jam on the side. What's lacking- intense meat flavors and sauce. We found both calzones needed more sauce cooked into the mixture. Both calzones needed a lot more meat, especially for the price point. I'll also add that more cheese would have helped as well. What's tasty- the dough is house made. It's fluffy, and baked perfectly. I'd kick it up a notch, and add garlic or some tasty seasoning to the dough. It would help! The staff is really kind, helpful, and they made me feel welcomed. The Place is definitely "neighborhood ", which makes it endearing. Found this place on Yelp, made reservations for Sunday evening and had no issue finding parking so I guess we were lucky! I wish we had come earlier to walk around "old" downtown Roseville beforehand - what a cute area with all the lights and businesses! Service 5* Our server was INCREDIBLE! The place was full of families dining together, a table of teen girls celebrating their friend's 14th birthday, a very large office party, a solo diner at the table behind, and couples just like us. Great place for everyone to come for any occasion. I didn't find the place to be loud but I also wasn't there when any live music was happening. Food 3* Dang it. Why can't the food have been 5* too? The focaccia had run out so our server gave us some contraband bread...but... it was pretty dense and had a hard time soaking up the delicious olive oil/vinegar. The minestrone soup was tasty enough. I went for my server's suggestion of the Sweet Pig pizza: House-made sausage, pancetta, prosciutto, pineapple fig jam, provolone, mozzarella. I get the play on "hawaiian" with the pineapple jam but all I could taste was fig. Nothing wrong with that but then I'm almost looking for prosciutto or ricotta to go with it. Descriptions have an effect! Crust was thin (which I like) but overdone so it made the crust crunchy to the bite (which I don't like since it's not a cracker.) The meats were delicious and the provolone not overwhelming. Hubby wasn't wowed by his clam linguine because riddled throughout were strips of onion, which he doesn't like. First time visit on a Saturday around noon. Had heard good things about this place and was looking forward to trying it. Pros: -Wife enjoyed her Blue Italian salad (but see notes below). Cons: -My Chicken Parmigiana sandwich was sub-par. The chicken was super thin, the breading was soggy and did not stick to the meat, and it was overcooked on the ends. Not sure but seemed like it may have been a pre-made chicken product. I ate maybe half. -Salad add-ons had Italian salumi as an option (along with chicken and shrimp). Wife asked what the salumi was, and the server did not seem to know the difference between salami and salumi. Then she came back to the table after ordering and said they were out of salami but could add prosciutto (which IS a salumi). What..? -Service was friendly but super slow. This was not the server's fault, as she was the only person waiting tables, so they must have been short staffed. Still, the wait was excessive. -Even though half of my sandwich was left on the plate, server never asked if everything was OK. A small discount or even an apology for the bad sandwich would have been nice. Verdict: We will not be back. read more

We've been coming to The Place for the past three years, and the food has always been excellent -- that hasn't changed. Unfortunately, the service this time was the worst we've ever experienced here. It took our waiter over 30 minutes to even come to our table, and we never received the complimentary bread that's usually brought out. On top of that, people who were seated after us were already getting drinks and bread before we were even served our drinks. We had to flag someone down just to get basic service. I understand it was Valentine's Day and things get busy, but this was still ridiculous and far below the level of service we've experienced here in the past. We're usually big fans of this place and look forward to coming back each year, but this visit was incredibly disappointing. This year really took the cake for poor service. I hope this was a one-off, because the food deserves better service to match. Mind you I made this reservation over three months ago. I don't know why this does not have a full 5 stars because we had a fantastic dinner. It's an unassuming little place but the food tastes like you're in some fabulous restaurant in Italy. I had the lemon arugula salad, which was so fresh and so delicious and the chicken piccata was amazing. I'm a foodie and I'm picky and this place was 5 stars all the way. My husband had a woodfired pizza. It was very thin and very delicious. Excellent service and cocktails as well and reasonably priced. The only criticism I have is that they have white tablecloths on the tables, but they cover them with butchers paper which I get why, it helps with keeping things clean, but you felt a little bit like a little kid waiting to do some crafting lol. this is our go to Italian for sure in Roseville, I can't wait to go back and try more of their food. read more

Wow...ok- "The Place" is not the place for me. Located in downtown Roseville, very limited parking, "The Place" is squeezed between businesses with very limited seating. It's best to call ahead and make a reservation if you are coming here, or you'll be stuck at an empty restaurant at the bar top with an unpleasant bartender, like me. Thankfully, I didn't need a table. Tonight as I walked in to an almost empty restaurant, I was told they were not taking to go orders because the kitchen was short staffed (EMPTY RESTAURANT!). So I asked if I could sit at the bar top since none of the EMPTY tables were available, and order food then box it up myself. Yup. At the bar top, there are maybe about 8 spots available to sit. The kitchen staff was polite and let me know he didn't mind making my food to go. I thanked him and mentioned it was my first time here. As the bartender Randy, was taking my order, I had questions since it was my first time. After ordering two items for my client (I wanted those to start cooking and if i didn't find anything, then I wasn't going to eat) , Robert (the name on my receipt) suddenly, right in the middle of taking my order, rushing me through, me still having questions, he tells the kitchen to stop making my order because I didn't know what I wanted. I told him to keep those cooking, but he was in such a rush, he was not willing to listen to me. Then, walking away from the kitchen, he says "F*CK" out of frustration and tells me he has hot food to get out and tables he needs to help. Honestly it took everything I had not to walk out, especially, because this is where my client wanted to order food. After he was done delivering his food and whatever else he needed to do, he sarcastically stood in front of me, reminding me how he had other customers that needed him, and about hot food, and so on. I understand that hot food needs to get out right away, but aren't I a customer, too? And surly, there was a much better way to talk to me than how he did. I was starting to shut down. I also had to change my order because they no longer made items that they had on their online menu. After fixing my order, (they no longer made Dad's carbonara) then reordering, I decided not to order my meal from here. I sat there for about 45 minutes. Watching TV. I was up close and had a really good view of the kitchen staff working hard. Then, while waiting on my order, Randy asked the kitchen where my order was, and they told him it had still been on hold because he never told them to continue making it (that's because I decided not to eat her). So he had to print up my ticket and hand it to the kitchen. I received my full order almost 10 another minutes later. When I paid, Randy was not willing to get me change. I honestly didn't feel like he deserved a tip. He treated me like I was wasting his time from the moment I sat down. Sorry, but you are getting paid to do this job, minus the a$$hole attitude. He walked up and looked at the cash I left on the tickets, then walked off. I had to ask the waitress that happened to be by the register to make change. The food: Tagliatelle Bolognese No Bueno. The noodles were barely warm and chewy, maybe not cooked all the way, not soft. Not even al dente. The meatballs were hot, but not much flavor, too much bread crumbs. The sauce was ok. Not worth the money paid for it. No where close ($26+$6 for 2 meatballs +$6 more for 2 more meatballs). Chicken Parmigiana The hand-breaded chicken didn't even taste like like chicken! Which make me think that this food is not fresh. The pasta felt better in this dish than in the Tagliatelle Bolognese. My clients exact words... "what a joke. $68.42 down the drain." The best part of dinner was the complimentary bread and olive oil (and maybe getting away from the rude bartender). That had good flavor. The bread was soft. Went there on Friday night with my friend. I called earlier to make reservations for two. I showed up a bit early and the place was already full. I waited for couple of minutes and then I was seated. When we went to check in, the middle aged man at the hostess stand said our reservation was at 1 pm. and they could not accommodate us and was downright rude. We did get seated for dinner but we were very upset and he totally ruined the dining experience. Clearly they had a system glitch with their online reservation system. The man (who we think was the manager) was rude, disrespectful and unapologetic. He never apologized for his unprofessional attitude and behavior. A simple apology would have gone a long way. Service was lacking too. We had to flag our waitress down for everything. She forgot to bring us bread, lemon wedges and never asked about cocktail refills. If this reviewed was based just on food on a plate, easy 5 stars, no hesitation. But, because they advertise as a "dining experience", let me tell you about OUR barely 3 star experience. (Basically if you take anything away from this review - do not make reservations here. But if you do, be prepared to wait an hour for your reservation. I do mean this with all seriousness. You will wait an hour- and the entire restaurant will stare at you- until you are seated or give up and leave.) On Saturday night it was my friends birthday and a week in advanced. She made a reservation for 7:00 PM. Earlier that day she called to confirm at 1 o'clock that her table would be ready for a party of 7. She did everything right, put down the $10 per person reservation deposit, confirmed twice and we got there at 7:02 PM. Seems fine? Just wait it gets worse. I think it's important to know that this is a very small restaurant- if I stood in the middle of the room I can easily see the kitchen, the front door, all the tables and the bar from exactly where I stand. Our party of seven was invited to either wait outside in the cold weather (that was a no) or wait at the very busy bar with limited seating, while we waited for our table. Now I understand bartenders are busy and I can only imagine the stress and anxiety at this bartender felt as he was the only person behind the bar on truly a busy Saturday night. However - in all my times of standing at bars, I have never encountered a more unpleasant, unwelcoming, and rude bartender. I understand that as a group of young women who are excited to be there, that we may come off as "immature, and young" but the bartender treated us so negatively, and with such crassness and unwelcoming behavior, that we opted just to stand outside in the cold. Anytime we try to go in and check on the status or progress of our reservation. We were met with a simple "I can't give you or release that information." Like - what do you mean you can't? What an odd thing to say. I would understand that response if I was asking for Social Security number or for the password to someone's bank..... but the amount of attitude I got from asking "when is our paid reservation going to be ready?" Oh my Our party ended up waiting until 8:15 (hour and 15 minutes) to even be notified that our table was "being prepared". We were informed that there was a party of four ahead of us. However, we did get "lucky" because this party of four gave up and probably were already enjoying food elsewhere. (Keep in mind this place closes at 9pm) Here comes the part of the review about how we found a small solution to our terrible night so far. We had no reservations, accommodations, or plants for anywhere else that could possibly take our large party, and we were determined to stay and make sure that our friends deposit would not go to waste. The deposit ended up being put towards the bill and my friends (solo birthday meal) got compensated, don't worry the bill was still over $100 - I will say that Teresa, the waitress was the only shining star of the story and apologized for the extreme and ridiculous amount of wait time. They gave my friend a small birthday cookie - and the group two free appetizers, which split evenly between a group of 7- was crumbs ... The food is good. There is no doubt about that, and if you only went for the food, it would be fine. If you try to make a reservation, please keep in mind that they're fine print does not guarantee that you get sat down at the time of your reservation, and they reserve the right to make you wait an hour for a timeslot that you already put money down for. Is this a fantastic, well-run business that handles busy nights well? As a customer I would say not. Is this the only Italian restaurant in Roseville? I feel like we come here at least once a year to celebrate my grandma's birthday . This year she turned 93 and of course she wanted to come back to The Place . We all got excited we love the food here . We came on a Friday night once we arrived, it was not as busy or crowded a little later through the night it did get busy. It looked like everybody had reservations or either some people sat at the bar area . The Place is a small Italian restaurant in the heart of down town Roseville it's super cute inside it feel like it says mom and pops real Italian restaurant. All the food here is great . My favorite is the lasagna which they only make on Fridays and Saturdays but once it's gone, it's gone so you better get there early and order it before it's gone. This lasagna has 10 thin layers of greatness in your mouth. Sooo good !!! My kids love to order the Italian sodas. They do offer kids dishes you just have to ask, which is a kid spaghetti or a kids small pizza, which is really good portions for kids by the way. One thing I did not like the complementary bread with the oil comes as soon as they remove your menus from your table. I wish we would've got the bread as soon as we sat down. We did get our appetizers and we were still looking at the menu for our main entree and still not bread I asked and she said they have to remove the menus completely from the table to receive the bread. They food is excellent and the service is great also just be ready to wait a while for your food or drinks but it's definitely worth it ..The food is delicious. They offer wine and specialty cocktails as well. My favorites are the Clover club, French 75 and the Espresso Martini. Some not all of the drinks are a little bit on the smaller side for the price range of $16 or so. Wish they were a little bit bigger for that price but they are really good. At the end of the night they gave my grandma a complementary birthday dessert that was a very nice touch . We all ended up ordering dessert my kids loved the Zeppole Originale' and I loved the Tiramisu delicious.. One thing my grandma and all of us love the the man of the hour the live music ! He made my grandma feel special all night he would announce that its her birthday throughout the evening . He even sang happy birthday to her and took a picture with her. He is the sweetest!! Disappointed... I really wanted to like this restaurant based on some reviews. We decided on an early dinner; when we walked in there was an older gentleman singing Italian songs during dinner. Once seated, it literally took the host 15-20mins to notice we were still waiting for our server. A female server finally approached us and asked if we had been served? I said "unfortunately not", she quickly apologized explaining the server that usually has our section had to switch to bartending? We finally ordered and after all that waiting, the so called authentic Italian food and appetizer was a total disappointment. The bruschetta was soggy and you could literally count the tomatoes on each piece. Dinner: the pasta had some pieces that were stuck together and clumpy -- then they charge you an extra $4 if you request freshly-made pasta?! Was there a difference? Nope... both of our dishes tasted the same. Maybe they were having a bad night? The service and food were a total disappointment. The Place is old-school Roseville and I respect its long tradition on Vernon Street as a classic Italian-American restaurant. However, there are many more restaurants competing with it these days and in my view the Place is a little tired. I still love the thin crust pizzas and the arugula salad. The margarita pizza is classic and delicious and the lasagne is legendary if you can get there early enough! The servers are attentive and sweet. But the live music, -- while kind of cool -- is too loud in the small space, making conversation difficult even if you are seated as far away from the source as the space allows. Don't bother with reservations, made them for 6:15, showed up at 6:15 and was told there are 2 groups ahead of us. Waited outside in the freezing cold to finally get seated at 6:30-6:35. The place was packed and loud with some guy singing in the corner that you couldn't even hear. Seating is tight, and it's not a comfortable environment. Waited 10 min after being seated to get 2 waters, there was 4 of us, we were told 2 more waters were on there way. Waited another 10 minutes to put our drink order in, our other 2 waters finally came out with our drinks. Waitress was over the top superficial. Everything from being seated, to getting drinks, to getting food took forever. Only thing that came fast was the bill. Now the food, spinach manicotti, the pasta was hard, not tender and very bland. Got it with the chef's recommendation of sausage, don't do this! It was burnt and hard as a rock. This dish was inedible and honestly the worst. Maccheroni was in a watery liquid sauce, not creamy. Bacon was paper thin. Got it with the chefs recommendation of meatballs, again don't do this! The meatballs were soggy and mushy. Rosemary focaccia came out cold, like really cold. Should be at-least room temp if not warm. Bolognese was bland, nothing spectacular. Didn't even bother with dessert. Overall, yeah won't be back and don't recommend. read more

My go to place for pasta in the Roseville area. The staff here always makes me feel welcome. As soon as I walk in, they give me a hug and pour me a glass of red. Randy makes the most amazing drinks!
