The Place is always busy so making a reservation would be highly recommended! It's been a while since my last visit and I had forgotten how loud the place can be. The volume of the live entertainment seemed to have heightened. The food however made up for the boisterous ambiance. Everything we had was very good! The complimentary bread and dip (so flavorful and good), bruschetta was fresh and refreshing, our entrees... the clams e linguine and dad's carbonara were delicious. We topped off dinner with the tiramisu. It was unique with three whoopie pie layers soaked in coffee sauce. I've always enjoyed the amaretto sour at the place. This is my new favorite place to get Italian food!! It's location in Old Town Roseville. My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner and we were quite impressed. We got a quiet table in the middle of the room and we got bread and dipping sauce first before we ordered our meals. The bread was super soft and baked and the dipping balsamic sauce was perfectly delicious. We got a salad to share; so good oh my goodness and I got penne pasta with Parmesan sauce (which was one of their vegetarian meals. My husband got the chicken Parmesan and we both loved our meals. So delicious! For dessert, we got a lemon cake with frosting; yummy! We instantly knew we wanted to come back here. So good and highly recommend too!! read more

Stumbled into The Place because it was close to home and we are looking for our new Italian spot. I'm so happy we did. A very patient and kind hostess did our best to find us a table, but it was Friday and we didn't have reservations so she sorted us a great spot at the bar. Our bartender greeted us and offered us wonderful drinks and the full menu. Their 10 layer lasagna is only served on Fridays and Saturdays and it is absolutely divine! The best lasagna I have ever eaten in my life. We also ordered fried artichoke hearts and a pesto pasta dish with prawns. Both were delicious. The bread is an in-house focaccia served with oil and balsamic, also divine. They had live entertainment which added tremendous vibes to an already amazing atmosphere. Love, love, love! My wife and I enjoyed a delicious lunch at "The Place". We were impressed with the traditional Italian pizza. It had a delicious thin crust, that was fire roasted. The dough was similar to the pizza dough in Italy. The meatballs were excellent. They are a meal by themself! They taste like quality beef, pork based balls within an outstanding tomato sauce. Came here in between normal lunch and dinner time on a Sunday after walking around downtown Roseville for a bit. Got seated immediately. It sounded like they get pretty busy on the weekends with reservations. I ordered the boscaiola - three types of mushroom with pasta and a creamy oregano sauce. It was so delicious and there were tons of mushrooms. I think the waitress said it was 6 oz of pasta. It was enough for me to finish in one sitting without being super full. This is a really popular restaurant in downtown Roseville. We had reservations for 7 pm on a Friday and still had to wait over 30 minutes to be seated, with no apologies offered. We had to wait outside with no option to have a beverage while we waited (their small bar was packed with diners and there were no waiters outside). We were finally seated at a two-top table across from the bar area. There was a musician performing loudly in the front of the restaurant. It was difficult to carry on a conversation. As for food, they bring out bread and oil (first one is complementary, they'll offer a second for a fee). We ordered the Blue Italian salad, the gnocchi, and chicken parm. All were decent, good portions but nothing stellar. The gnocchi was super rich so I'm glad we shared everything. One thing to note: we visited in early. The Place is the place for authentic Italian food in Roseville. For my birthday meal I had the veal accompanied by a salad. To drink I had a sparkling Italian soda and plenty of water. As for a dessert I had gelato with decaf americano. Everything appeared fresh and tasted quite delightful. This establishment is definitely a family, date, and /or friends night establishment with tables placed in about every corner. Highly recommend that you make a reservations. It appears there is a bar area however have been told by locals in Roseville the bar is used mostly during the week and The Place is more used for open table seating. While the dress code is casual for the restaurant. However I enjoy dressing up for an establishment such as The Place. Service was superb. The waitress ensured every dish came out on time and that our drinks especially the water received a refill upon request. Overall If you have a special occasion, a date night, friends evening, ect. The Place is the place. Look forward to the next to visit either with friends and/or family. However I am curious to further explore the use of the small bar area as a solo individual at The Place. Having lived by this place for a couple of years, walked by it a few dozen times and driven by it a few hundred, if not thousands of times, I finally went in for it. The place is pretty small with not a whole ton of space. But, has this family, cozy, warm in your stomach feel to it. The service is amazing! Fast, attentive, patient and very helpful. The food is by far some of the best Italian I've had in a long, long time. Everything was fresh, hot out of the oven, fulfilling and very satisfying. I used to really enjoy The Place, until today. My family brought me today for a father's day for dinner, which was ruined by the little guy with the silly mustache. We had a reservation for 5 and they sit us at a table for 4, placing my son on the end, not a huge deal. Then mr. mustache grabs the uncomfortable host chair from the front for my son to sit in. We swap the chair for a cushioned chair at an empty table and awaited our server. Well mr mustache did not like this and began to pull the chair as my son was sitting in it, stating its for the empty table. This was completely unacceptable and was a sign to how our experience would be, so we left. This is how you treat return customers, that have been coming here since your opening? We decided to try The Place without reservations on a Saturday night - a mistake on my part!! The restaurant was very crowded at 7PM with an hour wait. Fortunately, we were able to grab 2 seats at the bar. Speaking of the bar, we had the best bartender I have experienced in years!! I wish I had got his name, but he's definitely Italian looking with a great mustache and wonderful sense of humor. He had a great attitude given the restaurant was crazy with customers. Almost an hour went by before we were informed our order was messed up by the cooks!! Our bartender came over and apologized for the delay. Nice touch. However, it was about 30 more minutes before we got our appetizer, so at least an hour went by without any food. This was while others around us who came in after us were already eating their main course while my GF and I sat sipping our wine and waiting...again our bartender apologized for the wait which was nice of him. I was disappointed that the restaurant didn't offer to comp us at least the appetizer or the wine...that would have been a nice, respectful touch but no such offer was extended....and we had to wait another 20 minutes before any food showed up. Speaking of food, the artichoke appetizer was undercooked and disappointing. However, the ravioli main course was outstanding. I wanted to try this place for so long and we finally did. The service was slow- like slower than slow. But we were in no rush and could see how hard they were working. It appeared to be only one chef and one waitress who was acting as host, server, runner, busser, bartender etc- hire that woman some help!!! The food was SO good. Almost indescribable. The hot bath makes you want to just melt in there with it. The mac and cheese was so flavorful and not dry it was just insanely good. Finished off with a cannoli and espresso martini and I was in absolute heaven. Definitely don't come here with small kids expecting a quick service meal. The food here was excellent. But, it took a really long time to get our food because they had only one person to take the orders, serve the food, tend the bar, and buss the tables! That poor girl ran ragged, and did a great job as best she could. I admired the service that she was able to bring without any help. The restaurant has a great vibe. Classy and quiet enough for a good conversation with out having to speak loudly. Ive been here a few times now and it's always a pleasure. Just had an issue with the front door. The door would open on its own and bring in a cold windy draft in. They really gotta fix that thing. Also, I highly recommend to NOT to bother getting the sad excuse for Lasagna. Sorry to break it to everyone, it's trash. I heard from many of my friends that the food here was exceptionally good. I have been wanting to try this place for a long time now but have not because this place is a bit far for me. When my friends decided to book a workshop for my birthday nearby, I took the opportunity to make reservations. I made reservations for 5 pm for a party of 4. We got there a few minutes early, and the place was packed; in and out! I'm thinking to myself, thank goodness I made reservations!!! Little did I know, so did everyone else!!! There were 7 reservations for 5pm ranging from 2-6 people in each party. This place is small. They had 3 tables in the back that seats 2, 8-10, and 4. In the front by the right side wall were 3 tables that seats 4, 5, and 4. On the other side, there was a table that seats about 8-10, one table that seats 4 and a table that seats 2, which they put together for a party of 6 for one of the 5pm reservations. Then there is another table that seats 2 and one last table that seats about 6. In total, I would say they can fully seat about 53 people; 55 if you squeeze in extra chairs. First turn off, a bunch of us arrived early and were standing at the podium and NOT A SINGLE PERSON acknowledged our arrival. 5:10 rolls around, and my friend had to finally flagged someone down. That's when we learned that everyone had a reservation for the same time period. At that time, one of the gal tried to seat a few of the 5pm reservations. by 5:15, she was only able to seat 3 of the 7 parties. Frustrated, we decided to go eat at the bar. Come on now, this is just poor and unacceptable business practice. People usually have plans after dinner, to which we did, our woodshop was scheduled for 6:30pm and it's only 8 minutes away. At the bar, we ordered our food right away, probably around 5:20. At 5:35, they said our table is ready and moved us to our table. 6pm, no food. So, we asked them to just pack it togo for us. We didn't get our food until 6:15. Seeing how displeased we were, the lady tells me that we just can't tell how long people will stay. Fine, I get that, just don't accept the reservations so people can plan accordingly! Your business is centrally located and popular enough that if people do finish quicker than expected, you can fill tables with walk-ins! The lady also said that they cook everything fresh to order, which is why meals take so long. Okay, knowing that food takes almost an hour to cook, why would you not spread out your reservations? I mean, you just pretty much confirmed that at a minimum, you would need 2 hours to eat there; one hour to get the food, one hour to eat, have dessert, chat, digest, before calling it. Finally, when we got our bill, we noticed a BOH Service charge? What the heck is BOH??? I looked it up, it stands for Behind the House!! Seriously!!?? You charge over $20 per a small portion of pasta and meat, and you want to charge a BOH. I get so turned off when businesses tries to pass on their responsibility to adequately pay their staff onto patrons. This and over accepting reservations are just poor management and pure greed by the owner!! Just to be clear, my disapproval is with the management and business owner. Besides being ignored when we first arrived, all the servers seemed very nice and tired to be as helpful as possible. Bottom line, I don't even care if the food tastes good; I didn't even eat it. Been here enough times to know a few things. The staff is usually really good except for Bar Meister Randy. All depends on his attitude of the evening if you happen to eat at bar. At best his Bill Burr-esque shtick can be amusing, but if he's frazzled that night there will be problems. He's been there for years so that won't change. What has changed is the food... its gone from passable to a joke. The pasta was sub par.... and sub par by California standards is one tiny step above Olive Garden. Never again. read more

"The Place" is aptly named for that...this is the PLACE for some amazingly delish Italian fare! My friend and I stopped by here for lunch. It was early and we were the only patrons for the time being. We were greeted by a super nice and helpful waiter. We ordered two pasta dishes, the meatball app and the garlic cheese bread. Our order came out fast and fresh. Unfortunately, we were in a hurry to get to another appointment, which my friend underestimated, so I could only eat a portion of my meal, but I got to take it home. It was the BEST pasta dish I've ever had! It had a Light cream sauce and 4 different types of mushrooms in it, on top of penne. She had fettuccine Alfredo. EVERYTHING was top notch delicious and made with love. I've been wanting to come here for years and so glad I finally did.
