With so many restaurants to go to in Roseville, often spreading time between visits can be a challenge. We have our favorites but also like to try new places. Il Fornaio is one of these places. We love sitting at the bar for Happy Hour. So many craft cocktails and I love experimenting with them. Sometimes I'll simply have a refreshing beer. I love pizza. The Fradiavola is a favorite happy hour item along with the calamari. We also absolutely love our server who always is on top of it. She's one of the reasons we keep returning. We stopped in around 5pm on a Saturday and had a genuinely great experience from start to finish. Devon at the bar mixed fantastic drinks, and our server Riley was sweet, attentive, and kept everything moving at a great pace. Presentation was lovely and everything arrived in a timely fashion. We ordered the salmon and the Grigliata di Pesce Misto (mixed seafood plate). The salmon dish was a thicker filet that stayed moist. The seafood misto was enjoyable overall, though the smaller portions of fish ended up a bit drier by comparison. The atmosphere and ambiance continue to be one of the reasons we come back. We've probably been half a dozen times over the years and I can confidently say this was my favorite visit yet. There's construction happening outside at the moment, but honestly it didn't detract from the experience at all. Tonight we skipped dessert... which may have been our only mistake. I eat at Il Fornio's all over California, and for some reason this one is always off. The space is beautiful, just what Id expect from this restaurant. But the food and service are never very good here. I have ordered different Items I usually love here, and they are just not good. Ive gotten soggy pizzas, chicken that's cold when I cut into it, as well as bread that isn't great and watery iced tea. I dont know why this location is so off. On May 7, I treated myself to a celebratory meal in honor of my 19th year work anniversary with my work organization. I recently saw that this restaurant has happy hour so I wanted to try it out. Wow, am I so glad that I did can I just tell you that I had the most amazing service from the moment I walked in the door graded by the hostess from being sat down and then my server and I hope I got her name correctly Jessica she was super amazing! First off let me say two drinks and a pizza on happy hour is super affordable and you're going to take it to go box unless you just can knock back a whole pizza. I had the pizza with the meat options and I had a Prosecco and a Milano mule. Let me tell you anything on this menu is worth it but if you can get happy hour prices, why not? We had such a romantic evening out on the patio. I didn't want the night to end. It was quiet and tranquil. The weather was so perfect. We were so comfortable. We recently went to Ruth Chris's for the first time and thought the food was a bit overpriced. You're really paying for the ambience. We came here a couple of days later, also our first time. We just loved it. Very reasonable prices. The bread was warm and tasted so fresh. I couldn't resist them and filled up quickly. I could only eat a third of my delicious risotto with seared scallops and shrimp. They made to order a pizza for my husband and he loved it. Wood burning without the black crusts at the bottom or sides we usually get at other restaurants. The waiter was charming and checked in on us at the right times. He's very experienced and attentive. An upscale, white tablecloth, Italian restaurant with a classy and comfortable vibe. A menu with names I can't pronounce, and flavors I want to taste again. We went for lunch on Labor Day. THE PROS: Walking in you can tell it's fancy, but not pretentious. We started with Gnocchi in a mushroom cream sauce. Main dishes were Veal Scallopini with Lemon sauce, and Chicken Parm with pasta. Our waiter surprised us with a strawberry sundae for two at the end of our meal. All the food tasted fresh and full of flavor. Portions were good size The crusty bread with olive oil was wonderful. While there were no culinary surprises, it was the kind of dining you would find in a high end hotel or resort. THE CONS: All minor things. The bread had oil and balsamic, but a little butter on the table would have been nice. The waiter made a fresh pot of coffee at my request-the original was on the "been on the warmer quite a while" side. Service was leisurely- so that's only a con if you are in a hurry. BOTTOM LINE: While not cheap, prices were in line with other high end dining choices- and the food tasted great. Good enough that I added our name to the mailing list and look forward to going again. Sorry to say the food has gone way downhill at this location. I love the beautiful dining room ambience, but this will be my last visit here. Ordered off the regular menu rather than ordering the special Sicily meal. I order the Branzini (sea bass). It was over cooked and dry, mashed potatoes were very dry and lumpy, and they just dumped a big spoonful of tomato sauce on the side of the plate. Weird! I ate about 1/3 of my meal and was very disappointed for a $46 entree! Service was great until the end. He brought the birthday dessert and they he forgot to take the rest of our dessert order, by the time it came out of the kitchen the birthday dessert was long forgotten. Won't return. read more

It was my son's 17th birthday and his dinner choice was Il Fornaio. I've had this many many years ago at the downtown Sacramento location so with how delicious that meal was I was sure that we were all in for an amazing feast. I'm sad to share this was not the case. Our party was a total of 10, adults and children combined. I made reservations beforehand, we got seated in a nice enclosed corner, and our server Daniel was great. He greeted himself, promptly got us drinks and bread, and continued to tend to us where we hardly ever had to flag him down. The reason for my two stars is the food! Terrible letdown for half of us. I ordered the Pappardelle Alla Norcina Con Pollo as it sounded appetizing and filling since it included chicken. When I received my dish I was a little shocked with how it looked. Almost like a home cooked meal and everything on my plate was the same color, lol. Everything was sort of just one note tasting, no depth of flavor whatsoever. It's as if my sauce came from a jar! For the price of my plate I had much higher expectations... Nearly half our table got the Rigatoni Alla Vodka. Oh my goodness, that was even more disappointing! The sauce was not glossy or flavorful. It was on the thicker side. Again, for what we expected but got instead was such a bummer. The pesto pasta I make for my family is 10x better than these two dishes. Haven't been here in a long time because on our last visit I observed a female employee exit a locked bathroom stall and rush out of the bathroom. YES, I complained to the manager and he said "she might have been adding a fresh roll of toilet paper". Ummm....she FLUSHED the toilet and unlocked the stall, so I don't think so! Gross! Wasn't interested in returning after that. Unfortunately we were given a gift certificate, so we had to return. We were sad to discover some negative changes. They no longer offer bread with their meals AND they charge a mandatory additional 3% for "employee training". Ridiculous! Their patrons have to pay for employee training? Why not Just raise your prices by 3% instead of charging a fee for employee training?! Whatever. We had a nice lunch, salads, two entrees and some beverages, but we won't be returning due to the above. Our entrees were $40 each, salads were $30 (we added shrimp) and they won't give you a slice of bread? Ridiculous. There are so many restaurants in Roseville to choose from, Il Fornaio is not one we'll be back to. read more

Had such a wonderful lunch today!! Our server (forgot his name sorry!) was the most attentive and helpful waiter. He was helpful with my gluten free allergy and suggested great dishes for myself and my partner. My boyfriend started with the bread appetizer, which he said was very good. Came here with a group of 8 other fabulous women, and we all left full, happy, and raving about how amazing this place is! Seriously, it was a unanimous "OMG this is so good" kind of meal. While I didn't try the beet salad (which got glowing reviews from my friends), I kicked things off with the calamari. It was super tasty--could've been a bit crispier for my preference, but honestly, that didn't stop me from devouring almost the whole plate solo. For my main, I had the vodka pasta. I didn't realize it had bacon in it (not usually my thing unless it's just... bacon), but this dish won me over. Creamy, flavorful, and totally delicious--I was impressed! And let's talk about dessert: the banana bread pudding. Chef's kiss. So warm, comforting, and downright phenomenal. I'd come back for that alone. Omg the food here is just amazing. I will admit i was a little intimidated by the menu because I'm not used to upscale Italian places and a lot of the menu is in Italian. It was my friends birthday and they made him feel so special with a handwritten birthday card and free dessert. And then we waited about 15 minutes without having a waiter come up to us to ask us about drinks or even introduce themselves. I took a look at the menu prior to coming and it was either the Salmone Alla Griglia (grilled Norwegian salmon) or the Filetto al Vino Rosso (grilled beef tenderloin)... It was time for ladies that fancy lunch, and do we did. It's been a minute since I've been to Il Fornaio, and was excited to dine there again. Their entrance is independent of the mall, which I really like. The actual entrance is oddly placed. Once seated, water and menus were dropped off at the table. We ordered calamari for the shared appetizer. It was a much smaller dish than what we expected, and was served with a small amount of marinara. The calamari was mediocre. Calamari should have a crisp exterior, and ours was soggy. Not something that a fried dish should be. The marinara was bland. No flavor. Just tomato. We thought that the complimentary bread basket would also be dropped off. Nope. The bread is no longer complimentary. We ordered bread anyway, and had requested their off menu dipping sauce. The waitress couldn't figure out what we were asking for, and brought butter. When we ordered lunch, we all noticed that the menu was a lunch/dinner combo, and greatly reduced with menu choices. Two of us decided to share a margarita pizza. It was horrible. No sauce/olive oil, barely any basil, and I'm convinced that the cheese ran across the pizza. It essentially was a warm crisp cracker. Just not good. Service was pretty decent. We were given the time to chat, enjoy our drinks, and our meal without constant interruptions. Outside of the food being incredibly mediocre too, just not great at all, the company, as always was perfect. The other gal pals ordered pasta dishes. Eaten here 6 times over the past 13 years. Always a family occasion. Never my choice to come here. And after the second visit I would grumble to my wife "Can we go elsewhere that makes better food?" The big dramatic dining room is more of an attraction than the barely passable food. Of the different meals none were memorable. Tasted like elevated airline / chain hotel food to me. First off, this restaurant is gorgeous. I love the design, and the beautiful tile, natural woodwork, doors, curtains, and ambiance. Peaceful, away from the Westfield mall hustle and bustle. Our waitress was amazing, worked extremely hard, and was on top of everything. The bruschetta appetizer was absolutely delicious!! Loved it. We split a golden beet salad w goat cheese, and walnuts. Also flavorful. My bf said his calzone was ok. He felt it could have been bettet without the ham, because it was soggy. I had the sea bass with mashed potatoes, and asparagus. My first bite was a surprise, with a pretty big bone. Not what you want to feel when you bite down, but I was very careful the rest of the meal. It was delicious nevertheless, all of it. But the bone was a slight turn-off. For dessert, we shared the bread pudding, with vanilla ice cream! The best part of the entire meal was this ending. We'd come back and eat here again. She simply asked how many were in our party and then assumed we didn't have a reservation, which didn't leave a great first impression. It's the perfect place for special occasions, and elegant dining. I had the Pollo ai Funghi, which is the chicken breast with mushrooms and Marsala wine sauce, asparagus and mash potatoes. It was delicious. The chicken was very moist, and the sauce was rich and flavorful. Creamy mashed potatoes and perfectly grilled asparagus. My friend had the linguine and clams from the Specials menu, and she loved the clams, which was plentiful and said the wine sauce was delicious. The spumoni ice cream is the best I've ever tasted so it's a must. Our server, Jordan, was great. Attentive and very efficient and knowledgeable about the dishes, if you have trouble making up your mind. She, as well as the manager were so accommodating to us, and they are so sincere about making sure your dining experience is more than satisfactory. We left the restaurant so appreciative of our experience, and was the perfect ending of an earlier stressful day. I always say, if you want to impress someone, take them to Il Forniao. Took a long time for our food waiter to come-then hastily left when we were told that happy hour menu is only at the bar. Upon returning to our table, still not much communication with him (James I believe); no recommendations or coming back right after we were served our food- no cheese grates around not pepper mill. We were looking around for anyone to ask for grated cheese and pepper on top of our meal; the next table tracked down the waiter for cheese then pointed to our table telling him that we would like some cheese too. Well by that time half of the meal was already consumed or finished already! He then said, "Why didn't you ask?" Are you kidding? A good waiter service should have asked the patrons right away as soon as the dishes were served, not 1/2 an hour later. The GM, Ryon came over after being flagged down by my husband- told him our dilemma- he said " I'll talk care of the meal. We'll guess what, another lady came by with the bill, gave 50% off of the dishes- wait a minute... didn't the GM just said it was taken care of??? Another mishap? Regrettable dinner that was supposed to be special since we were celebrating my daughter's birthday and it was her first time there. Il Forno is a restaurant with a unique vibe, and the two managers on duty were absolutely outstanding. We've been regulars for years, and our recent visit reminded us why we keep coming back. The space is beautiful, the full bar is a plus, and the managers truly went above and beyond , they were attentive, professional, and helped make our event feel special. There were a few hiccups with table service staff , no refills offered, and we had to track down our server a couple of times -- but it may have just been an off day. With a party, you hope for smoother flow, but the strength of the management really helped carry the evening. The food felt a little underwhelming this time, but the overall experience still has heart. For my wife's 75th birthday, I ordered trays of spaghetti and meatballs, eggplant Parmigiana, and chicken pasta in vodka sauce; to go for 10 people. It cost about $330, with a $25 gift card. It was the WORST TASTING, blandest tasting Italian food we've ever eaten !! We haven't eaten there in a long time and used to enjoy the food. It used to taste authentic, but now, it's as Italian as Burger King. What has happened? They need to advertise themselves as non Italian Italian food. The seasoning was totally absent.
