This is hands down one of the worst plays I've ever seen. I can't even manage to stay awake during it - it's a play within a play. The only thing that is clever about it is that they've aligned when things will go wrong but that is the singular thing. If you like slapstick humor then this is possibly for you but aside from that this play is a COMPLETE waste of time and money. I've never, EVER, laughed so much in my life. Someone described this as Monty Python meets Downton Abbey. I'd say Python "Silly Walks" all over DA. Some of the gags were predictable but twisted in a way that was anything but. Plus, some little surprises. Not a "big broadway" production (wasn't supposed to be) but the set, story detail and timing were honed to a razor's edge. Physical Humor is very difficult and demanding and these actors nailed it. This 2 hour slapstick farce is exhausting--at first because you are laughing so much and then because it is a great 90 minute play which goes on for 2 hours and intermission. The cast's energy and timing is astounding and the set deserves a Tony for being the star of the show through constantly falling apart, with actors dodging more falling objects than the Giants' wide receivers dropping passes. There is nothing on Broadway like it and won't be until the next revival of Noises Off. read more

I have never written a review for a Broadway show before but I feel compelled to do so now. This was the worst show I have ever seen Broadway/Off Broadway/Streetcorners/etc. Everything in me screamed to leave during the intermission but I was there with my bf's friends who were laughing hysterically and I didn't want to seem rude. I kept looking around the theater at all the laughing people in amazement. The actors did their best with this miserable excuse of a play but it was so tedious and got old after 5 minutes. Those that laughed most during this show are those with a history in theater...and I'm one of them. If you've ever performed on stage, worked stage crew, or had to watch a very bad community production...then you will likely be unstoppable in your loud laughter. I was in the second row and it was a wave of laughs behind me. However, the couple next to me looked very lost. I can see that if you aren't into a lot of physical and quick-hitting British style comedy, this might not work for you. Personally, I loved picking up on the smaller nuances of the comedy...funny things that others may not have even noticed. Pro tip: don't go in thinking you are going to understand the story line. this is a review of the play 'THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG'. it was so good i had to see it twice. My best part is when Annie was forced to replace Sandra. I as well loved the antics surrounding Annie's predicament and Annie's desire to remain in character after Sandra returned. Another good scene is when Sandra was to faint and get takened to couch. unfortunatly she was accidentally locked inside a grandfather clock. but the show goes on regardless. See pic read more

It's one of those plays where you may either love it or hate it. If you appreciate British silly humor where you get a lot of belly laughs, you will certainly enjoy it. It's a silly story of a group doing a play where as the title implies, things keep going wrong. I don't know how anyone can help but laugh at the things that happen. It's not a deep story and is a bit silly but I happen to love British humor and when I heard it was coming to American knew I would laugh a lot throughout the play. If you hate silly British humor you might not like it but I bet you will still laugh a lot and will enjoy it just a little. read more

HORRIBLE! All 3 of us left after 40 mins (would have left sooner, but wanted to try to give it a chance)! The annoying guy behind us was clearly paid to laugh his ass off and made it so unbearable to stay any longer. When I turned around numerous times to look st him, he looked sorry in a way, but had to keep laughing cause he was so being paid to do so. No one else around us was laughing except paid people placed around the theater. We love Monty Python, loved Spamalot, but couldn't at all grasp this horrible show. Before the play began and cast members were out in the theater interacting with patrons I knew we were going to love this show. We never did see Winston but sure felt like he was there! We laughed through every scene and gag--the precision that these actors had to use to make these "accidents" seem so real must have required a lot of practice! My son-in-law is very stoic and he laughed out loud MANY times! Family members have both sides of the theater experience and could feel the pain when things went wrong. We go to Broadway fairly often and love a funny show, but this was sadly not one of them... This was undoubtedly the worst show I have ever seen. The plot and idea behind it were not lost on me, some of the jokes were funny, but re-using the same joke over and over again, works if it's hysterical, it's just sad when it's three-stooges style walking into walls or falling through windows. I get it, the set is supposed to be crappy and that's the joke, and the first 20 times things fell off the walls were moderately funny, but beyond that it was just reusing old material. Worse than that, there was nothing clever or nuanced, it was all slapstick. I guess if you're looking for a three stooges style play or a live action Looney Toons, this is the play for you, but with so much good out there to see, this is just all bad. read more

Not gonna lie: I ended up loving this play. Went into it thinking it would probably be funny, but not the hilarious silliness it ended up being. I was not going to leave a review, but I felt compelled after reading that one star review. I frankly don't know what they watched, but the show was one of the FUNNIEST THINGS I'VE EVER SEEN! That includes live performances, or on screen. I've seen many shows, and countless movies, so that is saying a lot. In my line of work, I see LOTS of people , and I tell everyone how great this play is. I took my 2 teenage daughters( they also LOVED the play), and they like going to the stage door following shows. I have such mixed feelings about this show! The acting, concept, direction, and execution are all fabulous. I liked every single character, and the play remains true to the them of everything going wrong in the play. Some nuances are subtle and some in-your-face. This is slapstick comedy. I brought my first graders after reading rave reviews how this is perfect for families. There were some references that were more "adult" and I felt like my kids shouldn't watch that, but it wasn't that crazy - there was no kissing or nudity. There were a lot of puns that my kids didn't understand. But overall they left thinking that this is by far the best thing they have ever seen in their whole life, so go figure! Having said that, my initial impression was, does the crowd have so much money to spend and is is gullible to laugh at every silly joke for no reason? The guy next to us was clearly drunk and laughed like crazy blowing raspberries as if something so hysterical was going on, while my boys and I looked at him and found him more entertaining than the play. But slowly the play started growing on me. It was clever, well-acted, witty, slapstick, and a lot of the action happened as action and not words which my kids could understand better. I had to explain references to them because they didn't know what was real and what was pretend, but overall they got it and had so much fun. The guy next to us was super annoying and the way people were laughing at pretty much anything was a bit of a turn-off. People at the back were laughing more than people at the front, and the audience was quite mature. All in all, a fun evening was had and I highly recommend this play. Would I have enjoyed it as much without my boys, without them laughing at the funny antics, I am not sure. But I was laughing through many bits and exclaiming at relating to things such as hand caught in the door, etc. I really enjoyed it after the first 15 minutes and the entertainment went through intermission. The best part it, it is entirely a play and not a musical. I don't like musicals and wish shorter shows without the elaborate set remained as plays and not musicals because the music or set are nothing to write home about. From the other reviews, people seem to love it or hate it. For the most part, the whole theater was laughing throughout and people seemed to be having a good time. I loved it. It's not to say it's the greatest theater production ever but it was very enjoyable. I picked up tickets 2 hours before the show for $30 at the box office and got seats with full view in the front orchestra. When we first went in, there were cast members wandering around the audience, they also do this during the intermission. It reminded me of the clowns in Cirque de Soleil shows that wander in the audience before the show to amuse people. The show was funnier than I had imagined and had me laughing throughout. i don't remember laughing so much ever at a broadway play.
