I've recently gotten into needlepoint and I'm glad there are a few stores nearby to check out. I checked this location on a Saturday and the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. Regrettably, The current surge in needlepoint popularity, has further given this shop owner the opportunity to be even more condescending and rude. Arrogant and aloof! Very dismissive to long-standing customers. I was told finishing was done upstairs...However, it is sent out. Don't bring in a canvas at the beginning of the month. They only ship them to the finisher at the end of the month. Hence a longer wait time, justified by the abundance of business. read more

I fell in love with this shop as soon as I walked in. I feel if I was on the East coast full time I would definitely be coming back. Extremely friendly staff. I am already half way through my pattern I picked up. Their selection inspired me on quite a few projects. I loved that they were willing to help me find whatever type of items I needed along with giving recommendations. Great unique modern selection. I feel that some needlepoint can appear dated. However they had great choices for modern needlepoint with great pieces for location items. read more

I went to this store yesterday as I am ready to take up Bargello again in retirement. Note that I was dressed very casually and probably don't look much like their typical customer (or maybe that's my stereotype). No matter. Everybody there was friendly and interested in what I was trying to do. They were helpful in answering my questions, sold me what I needed that they carry and referred me to other places that might carry what they did not have. Looking forward to visiting them again when I need more canvas or if I decide to try standard embroidery. read more

I am so happy I visited this shop. I was going to skip out on the trip since I don't typically venture into Maryland, but I'm so happy I did! I love how inviting the shop is with canvases on the wall. I also love how many ornaments they keep in stock (and all mostly in one place). I can't wait to return and pick up more. Another really nice touch is how they finish their canvases. They finish them with a piping/fabric instead of tape. For this reason alone, I will probably be prioritizing my trips here in the future. Staff was super lovely and pleasant and I can't wait to return. If the shop owner is reading this, I'd love to come for a "happy hour/ sip and shop" event held in the evening if you guys ever have anything like that. 4 stars because I returned and had a bunch of blank canvases cut and finished. They were closing soon and asked if it would be ok if they could ship them, ensuring that I would get a discount since shipping could qualify for tax-free. I agreed but then when I got home, I realized they had charged me $15 to ship the canvases. I felt a little mislead, as I thought I was doing them a favor by allowing them to ship them to me, instead of insist I take them home immediately, which would have meant they would have stayed past the store closing time. read more

Best needlepoint store I've ever visited ... and the staff were soooo friendly and helpful!!

I love this store and have been many, many times. Although for the amount of money and time I've spent here, the older blonde women is always incredibly rude. I came in today to kit an item I received in the mail and she was rude and unwilling to help. I asked a couple of questions and each time she responded with one word responses while actively rolling her eyes. As I was walking around the store, she repeatedly told my friend and I to move as we were apparently in her way, although we were never near her. When my friend went to kit her canvas, she immediately pointed her to the most expensive threads and when she asked about DMC (a cheeper option) instead, the older blonde women responded rudely and immediately walked away. Every single time I've been into the store, the older blonde woman has acted bothered by my presence and questions. Every other employee has been nothing but kind and helpful but she creates an environment where I simply don't want to shop. Today, instead of buying the products I was viewing, I chose to walk away soley because of how rude this woman is. I love the store and their products, but I cannot handle the rude customer service from this blonde employee! read more

Don't being your finishing to The Point of It All. I waited over six months for a few small Christmas ornaments. I made numerous requests for an eta and never got a clear answer. When the pieces finally showed up, they were misshapen and crooked and the price was about 40% higher than any other shop in the area. Dealing with TPOIA was so aggravating that I'm having the pieces redone elsewhere. The shop has a nice selection of canvases, but take your finishing elsewhere. read more

Okay, so I admit it--I'm an old lady and I've been needlepointing since I was ten. Whatever, I'll add that to my list of housewife specialities. Anyhow, the old Point of it All store on New Mexico Ave was much larger and had a really great selection. Since their downsize I have found the selection of needlepointing pieces a little on the weak side. I went in a few days ago to pick out a piece (a stitched bracelet) and between the canvas, the thread, and the finishing it came out to $120. I could have bought an excellent pair of shoes for that much but whatever, you're paying for quality. For the DC/NoVa area this is really your only bet for needlepointing needs. read more

I dropped my needlepoint project off at The Point of It All on February 4, 2022, to be made into a pillow. Since that time, I have called them four times -- each time asking about when the work would be completed on my project. I was told each time I called that I would be updated about when I would be getting the pillow. I never received a callback after any of my calls. It is now August 11, 2022, and I still have not gotten my pillow back. I called The Point of It All again today and told them I wanted my needlework project back, with a refund, since no progress had been made on turning my project into the pillow in more than six months. A few minutes after this latest call ended I received a call back (for the first time ever) from The Point of It All telling me that my pillow was "partially done" and would be finished and shipped to the store in "the next box" for pick-up within the next 10 days. I reluctantly agreed to wait for 10 days to see if the store would make good on this, but given the store's track record, I'm not holding my breath. In my two most recent calls to The Point of It All, the person I spoke with was very apologetic about the absurd delay in getting my project finished and returned to me, and about not being better about communicating with me. All I can say on that score is "talk is cheap." There are a number of other top-notch needlework shops in my area, and I will definitely use those other shops in the future rather than The Point of It All after this very aggravating experience with them. read more

After reading a write up in the Washinton Post about 'cool needlepoint' i thought i would give it a try. Looked online obsessively for kits and only found patterns that were truly uncool...posies, kitties, or dragons. Please! My old boss recommended Point of it All near Mazza Gallery. Walked in expecting snooty staff for some reason, but was pleasantly surprized! Susan, the owner was friendly and down to earth, and happy to give me the low down on my needlepoint questions (why are canvases so expensive?...the are hand painted, some by local artists...cool!; can I paint my own? Sure...but try a simple project on a small painted canvas first; beginner? No problem...its easy...;). She steered me to two managable and affordable projects. I have total confidence that i can go back and ask simple questions without the 'you should be paying me for this advice' attitude you get in some craft shops. She does offer lessons, which i may go back for once i finish this first project. Oh, and the selection of canvases is great. Hip and cool, non-frilly, really neat stuff that is chic. Plus, if ypu want to have a canvas painted, they can do that, too. She was kind enough to exlain that needelpoint CAN get expensive, but there are reasonably priced options (and she doesnt judge you for it!). read more

I was referred to The Point of It All for wool thread to stitch a Persian rug whose edging had been damaged. The staff are very warm, professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. Although I was clearly a customer likely to buy little, the staff described the types of material they sell and then helped me choose a color closest to the rug that needed repair. This store is one of my favorites, and this is coming from someone who makes a point of trying out needlepoint stores anywhere I travel. The canvas selection is great, particularly their holiday section, and the range of threads is amazing. Most importantly, the staff is fantastic. I had an unfortunate experience at The Point of It All over the weekend. I've been a fan and collector of antique needlepoint for decades and visited the shop many times in its former location. My experience: A friend had just picked up an unfinished (but quite lovely) needlepoint canvas at the Georgetown Flea Market, and I suggested that he go to The Point of It All to match the wool and finish the piece. Not knowing the shop closed at 4:00 p.m. that day, I entered the brightly lighted storefront at 4:05 p.m. (My friend was parking the car.) There were a handful of other customers in the shop at the time. When I told her why I was there, the owner informed me that they were closed, but willing to help if the transaction wouldn't take more than 10 - 15 minutes. She continued to chat with customers while I waited for my friend. I kept looking out the window for my friend, thinking what other needlepoint shops we could go to if he didn't quickly turn up. (He was having a tough time finding a parking place . . . no surprise in that neighborhood.) Not seeing my friend after what was probably well shy of 10 minutes, I said as I was leaving: "He must have gotten delayed, I'm taking off." [And making a quick decision to head to Alexandria for the yarn], I added, "There are other needlepoint shops." As I was closing the door, the owner loudly, in front of the other customers in the store, said: "Well aren't you obnoxious." My comment was nothing but a continuation of my thought about where else we could go. Her comment . . . well, you can judge for yourself. If my experience there is any indication of the contempt in which the owner holds her customers, I can't image how they stay in business. read more

This is the cutest store and everyone in it is so nice! I went in interested in starting my first needlepoint project, and they calmed my nerves, and helped me through the whole process! They have helpful guides and books for people at all levels. They have the best patterns and project kits, but they can also help you design your own projects! Several weeks ago, I visited The Point of It All with a 30 year old half finished canvas in hand, intent on finishing this crumbling project if possible. I had never been there before and I was met with extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff who gently removed the canvas from its frame, cut the degraded edges and sewed new binding to stabilize the canvas. They could not have been more helpful or patient. While there may be other places in the Virginia/DC areas, I was fortunate to find this gem in my first foray back into needlepoint. Highly recommend a visit! read more

This is hands down the best needlepoint shop in the DC area. The owner Susan and the staff are absolutely wonderful. They have a huge selection of canvases and fibers in stock, as well as custom painted options. Needlepoint can be expensive, but you are definitely paying for quality here. I've never felt pressured to buy something or up-sold. I've designed a few pieces in lieu of purchasing canvas and I've always been met with enthusiasm and helpful tips. Everything I've had finished here has been perfect. If only I had more time to needlepoint! Highly recommended! read more

Returned to point of it all after a few years hiatus. I receive their newsletter and a tease about a discount for St Patrick's day was just the nudge I needed to cross the river and travel to D.C. And I'm so pleased I did. I am stitching my new canvas as I type. Friendly, helpful staff. I quickly found a canvas I loved. And yes, it had green in it, so a lovely discount. This store has lots of colorful options for lots of different projects. It's on the pricey side, as most stores are since needlepoint is an expensive hobby, and you pay for quality. As previous posters said, the staff is great and the selection of yarns especially is amazing. They are super helpful without pushing more expensive options on you. And whenever I need help or a few extra inches of thread, they are happy to provide without charging! read more
