    Thai Tofu Bowl ($16)
    Jordan N.

I have been to this place a couple times since it is an ideal spot to bring coworkers and a group to sit down and eat on campus. There really isn't much competition on campus for that sort of restaurant besides the Gallery and Sage. Its affordable, and if you make reservations, you can get pretty good service at busy hours. During this trip, I went with a group of 14, and we were served in a fair amount of time. I ordered the Thai Tofu Bowl ($16), which came with some shredded carrot, bean sprout, cabbage, cucumber, mango, peanuts, and fried tofu topped on rice. The portion size was filling but I wish I received a bit more fried tofu, since it probably was the most tasty part of the menu. Out of the many times I have been to this spot, this order was probably the best tasting I have received. There was a good amount of sauce, a nice variety of vegetables, and the dish was filling. Some complaints about the dish could include the carrots seeming a bit dry, and the cucumbers cut into a bit too large of slices. I don't enjoy most of the sandwiches or fries that they serve at this restaurant, but this special bowl impressed me. Compared to the average sit-down burger joint, this place doesn't really stand out, but it's the best we got on campus. It also has halal chicken, which allowed my entire lab-group to have a good variety of options to choose from.

Turtle Cheesecake. Genuinely the best cheesecake I've ever had.

All right, before I begin my review of the food, I have the say: they have the BEST cheesecake I have ever had in my life. It was their turtle cheesecake (they change their cheesecake continuously and only have one at a time, so I've only seen this one once). I honestly could not believe it. I was even considering taking one to go. However, like I said, they change their cheesecakes all of the time, so #1 cheesecake status is not guaranteed. They've also had a Nanaimo cheesecake that was unreal. Their unbaked cheesecakes are usually not as good, though. However, except for the last time I was at the Point (I've been here ~ 6 times) their food has always been just okay. Not that flavourful. And also quite expensive. They get you because there are only a couple of restaurants at UBC so there is sort of no choice. BUT, they recently changed their menu and I really really liked the burger I got (The Suarez) so it's possible they did an overhaul and all of their food has gotten better... but it may be unlikely. After I move off campus it's likely I'll never come back... except for the cheesecake. I will say that the service is usually quite good as well. Basically almost everything here is better than the food.

The service here was prompt and very friendly but the food was mediocre. We had the hot wings and Canadian burger with fries but both were mediocre. Nothing was outstanding about the dishes but they weren't horrible either. I can see why it'd be a good spot to grab food on campus as we got our food quickly. I would come back if I needed food on campus but I wouldn't be a regular.

I came here for lunch and ordered a Autumn Crunch salad and poutine. My boyfriend ordered a steak and we shared lemon and pepper chicken wings. I think the food here was only okay. I took a bite of the steak, and it was really really dry. The chicken wings were just okay. I like the homemade granola in my salad, I like the taste of cinnamon of it. The service was not satisfying, I think our waitress was not friendly at all. Overall, I rated point grill a two out of five. I don't think I'll come here again.

To be honest, most of their dishes are still hit and miss. Some are delicious and worth the money, but others are mediocre. I haven't tried the point burger, but that's only because I've heard it was average at best. Their chipotle chicken burger is disgraceful; the grilled angus steak is good (sometimes); wild mushroom penne is acceptable, but sometimes too sweet; and their fries aren't anything noteworthy. Okay, there are a lot of things wrong with The Point Grill, but if you find the few dishes you really like, and go there to eat those specific dishes, you'll end up liking the place. Food was okay, waitress was rude, and it took awhile to wait for the food, and it wasn't even that busy at the time.

The chili-lime tofu, my go-to, is grilled fresh and juicy with a tangy marinade. I find these bowls very filling, but the price adds up quickly as you add more salad scoops, so I find it best to be conservative with my estimate of how much I think I need to eat. Besides the salad bowls, they have some hot entrees. I tried the Moroccan chickpea hot bowl and the tomato soup and both were a little bland, which was especially disappointing for something labelled "Moroccan". I would go back and try some different entrees to see if anything else is better, but I would say the salads are likely the best choice here. They have a very limited selection of "healthy" baked goods too. I really liked the chocolate pistachio cookie. As you would expect, it's significantly less sweet and has a slightly drier texture than a regular cookie, but if you like that kind of "better for you" treat, it's good. Very cocoa-forward. I've had good experiences with the service. The staff is friendly enough and usually pretty fast. It's counter service, but they'll usually bring your food to you at your table. There's a good amount of seating inside and a few tables outside when the weather allows. It's minimalist but clean.

This is the place where I usually buy cakes for the office. Their cakes are pre-made and placed in the displays for you to choose from. They make cakes throughout the day, but if you're unlucky they could be low on choices if you're there at the wrong time. If you have time, order ahead, but I don't usually have any problems with walk ins. The most recent cakes that I purchased were the Lemon Meringue and the Chocolate. Both cakes were sweet, light and fluffy. They were a hit in the office.

The HBC Gourmet Market is a little known great eatery in downtown Vancouver. It is located on the bottom floor of the Hudson's Bay Company (next to the Pacific Centre food court). It appears to be relatively unknown because Yelp doesn't know about it and so many people are always asking where I buy my lunch! Here you will find a very tasty selection of typical deli fare... The soups, salads, and sandwiches are their main selects but there is a whole lot more! My favourites are the Thai Chicken soup and the Chipotle Chicken Soup... usually ordered with a Greek salad. I am always so pleased with my lunch that I made this my very first review on Yelp!

And the porchetta on the cutting board was calling me. We ordered a Porchetta sandwich, meatball sandwich and a side Kale Caesar salad. The Porchetta was great. Spicy and delicious with a bit of kale added for texture and color. This was EVEN BETTER than the Porchetta if you can believe it. The kale salad was also good as well as the spicy pickle. Being that it was our first time here, one takeaway is to ask for more cracklin' because the crunchy pieces are the best part IMO. We ordered a porchetta sandwich and a grilled cheese. For the price (compared to Cali ) I thought it was a great value for a porchetta sandwich. The bread was fresh, perfectly toasted. The flavors were all tasty, and getting a side of their spicy dip elevated the sandwich even more. 10/10 would eat on the regular if I lived near by. The grilled cheese was alright though in comparison to the porchetta sandwich. Great cheese pull, definitely needs some dipping sauce to elevate it though. Don't know if I'd order again but if a grilled cheese is what you are craving, it'll do just fine. This location had some seating inside and a couple benches outside. Definitely good for solo dining or a quick lunch. Overall, glad we tried it, and wouldn't hesitate to order again.
