If you are able to avoid the Point Grill, do so! The Point is overpriced and like to price jab at the lazy students who don't have time to make their own meal. Their yam fries don't even come with proper chipotle mayo (a necessity for good fries) and instead come the a poor jalapeño substitute. I was already disappointed in their food quality and service, but two days ago I ordered a chicken wrap, and there was a living worm inside of it. A LIVING WORM. It was wiggling around. I've been coming to the Point Grill for more than a year. At first the food was good and the service was OK for a UBC business. The prices were never great, but not insane. I stuck with it because I was lazy and because I missed good food, and because I am incapable of making a nutritionally balanced, tasty meal without murdering myself. For starters, The Point Grill is a decent attempt to bring something different to the table on the UBC campus. With so much cafeteria and fast food available, sit-down restaurants are definitely a necessity. With that being said (as with most UBC Food Services locations) the food is nothing spectacular and is quite overpriced for the meal you will receive. The menu is a mix-match of different types of culinary fares that will come out in questionable portions after a lengthy amount of time. That's the biggest problem with this place: the service is extremely slow. There is no such thing as a quick meal at The Point, not any time that I have been there anyway. It is not uncommon for your appetizer to come at the same time as your meal -- it has happened to me twice. Food was very, very mediocre. The woman that served us seemed like she didn't really want to be there. My friend got a pulled pork sandwich with yam fries, and I got the catfish tacos. He said his food was very average. The catfish was deep fried but cold; and paired with a bunch of 'light' ingredients like lime, a light mayonnaise, and some coleslaw. Good service, great food, decent pricing. Kudos to our waiter (Zack?) for being a server with decency the entire time we were there. Although we did have to wait a bit to get our food, our waiter consistently offered to refill our water (which may be good or annoying for you). His service was both courteous and kind, which complimented the nice atmosphere. I personally ordered the Chicken and Waffles, and they were absolutely delicious. 10/10 cannot recommend this food enough, if it weren't for the price of $14. After, we shared a brownie with ice cream, and while it was equally good tasting, it was $7. I'd recommend the Point Grill who believe good things come to those to wait, and perhaps ones with a slightly fatter wallet. read more

Terrible service, middling food. The only staff person who seemed remotely to care about serving customers was the busboy. For some strange reason there seemed to be a moratorium on him actually doing anything of value beyond refilling water, which was unfortunate because our water glasses were topped up 3 times in the 20 minutes between when we were seated and when our waiter initially checked in with us to take our drink order. There were 2 other tables occupied on the patio, and it felt we were all part of a long forgotten colony of lepers. Food finally came: burger (ok), salad with grilled chicken breast (overcooked, dry chicken) after another 30 minutes. No drinks until after the food arrived and we reminded the server, who was different than the guy who took our order. All very slow, confusing and frustrating. Although our water glasses were topped up numerous times (hence the one star) After not seeing any wait staff for nearly another 35 minutes we had to finally venture inside to rustle up our bill and get out, never to return again. I went to Point Grill to have a drink with my friends and the rude waitress was being unreasonable saying that my Mexican government-issued ID was fake. I went to talk with the "manager" to try to fix the situation, and he was just as incompetent as the waitress. I told him I would go through the hassle of retrieving my passport (which by the way is dangerous to carry around) in order to have my drink. Upon returning to the restaurant, they finally served me a drink. They never acknowledged they made a mistake and kept talking about me in front of my face. This is an unacceptable attitude towards a customer. The least you can do in a situation like this one is to accept your mistake and try to compensate for the inconvenience. This clearly shows how poor their customer service is and how unprepared their employees are. read more

They have horrible and super unprofessional service. This one waitress was so rude to me for NO REASON. I didn't know if they offered pasta so i asked her if they did, instead of simply pointing to it, She started fighting with me and she said "why don't you just read it yourself" in the most disrespectful tone i have ever heard. When the food arrived I couldn't eat it as it had pork in it and as the menu didn't state the chorizo had pork in it (i do not eat pork and the menu didn't even mention this was a form of sausage, i assumed it was a vegetarian dish with no protein), because of that she started getting bitchy with me when I told her I didn't know the sausages had pork in them. Instead of offering something else she just insisted it was my fault for not reading the menu, in a very very disrespectful and bitchy tone. She didn't even have to offer anything, she could've just shut up and it would've been fine. I have worked in the industry before and know it can be hard but don't take it out on the customers. Horrible service, super high prices, and the food is just mediocre. Do not recommend this place and I will not be returning. Save your money and eat elsewhere. read more

What is good about Point Grill is the food. What I ate was actually really good... The bad point about this restaurant is the service. I'd never received worst service than at Point Grill! I was with 10 friends and first of all, it took 20 minutes to have a table, even if they were some tables available. Nobody was talking to us, so we decided to sit by ourselves. After 15 minutes we were at our table, the server finally came to say hello and take our orders. I've never seen a person that NOT enthusiastic and effective. We ordered glasses of water, at the beginning and they arrived after we finished eating. It was absolutely ridiculous. All my friends received the meals they have ordered, after 15 minutes, but I received mine after 40 minutes, so everybody had finished eating. I don't have high expectations for food on campus... But Point Grill managed to disappoint me regularly throughout my university degree. With some of the slowest (I would often order to takeout and would wait for over 50 minutes when they told me it would take 15) and most negligent service I have experienced in my life, paired with average food that is overpriced I would say this is the worst restaurant on campus. I once waited for an extra 30 minutes for my food that I ordered to go because the servers didn't realize that the food had already been prepared. You might wonder why after all this horrible service I decided to go through it time and time again... It was largely a function of me living in the residence above the restaurant and being too lazy to walk anywhere else (and yes I hated myself every time I supported this bush-league establishment). I just called the restaurant trying to make a reservation (at 1pm on Tuesday). The male server answered the phone. When I told him that I wanted to make a reservation for tomorrow's lunch, he said:" You are calling now to make reservation?" I said: "Er... Yes, it is for tomorrow." He then said: " It's lunch time now and I am serving and don't have time to take the reservation. Can you call back in an hour?"... Wow... This was the first time I ever experienced when I called a restaurant to make reservation. I understood that they were busy during lunch time, but I think the server should have at least be more polite to ask me to call back, and should have at least apologize for not being able to help me at the moment. I've been avoiding Point Grill on account of the crappy reviews read. But last nite we decided to try it anyway. Glad we did. The Canadian Burger was, as burgers go, very good. Patty was perfectly cooked, as was the bacon. Fries were decent as well. And the service was attentive and friendly; always a big plus. Ambience was excellent; we ate on the patio, but the interior of the joint is pretty nice. My better half had the salmon burger, and that too was reported "very good". I still find $15 for a burger a little pricey, but i will definitely come again next time I get the hankering, and want a nice venue to satisfy it. Good work, Point Grill! Who knows, next time I might give up that 4th star. read more
