I've been to Pompus Pig several times. Recently I tried their smoked half chicken and tried it with their sweet sauce. The chicken was well prepared, tender and the smoke flavor was all in in the taste. I especially like their slaw with pineapple, that is a real treat and goes well with the smoked chicken. BBQ was tasty! The sides were excellent as well which is a nice change as most BBQ joints I've been to have decent meat, but the sides were bland and "okay." I had the pulled pork with sweet potato casserole, mac n cheese, and baked potato bake - all amazing! Despite being incredibly busy, line was consistently to the door or wrapped around to the other room, the food got out quick. Servers were very friendly and paid attention to what Customers needed. A pretty good lunch with my wife here the other day. I love the idea of the chopped rib sandwich it was wonderful. The reputation of this place is stellar. My opinion is that it's extremely overpriced for the size of the servings. $28 for sandwiches with one side and tea for two is outrageous! I love the food .....absolutely the best bbq around and the quality is second to none. Very friendly staff and Chet is a Pit Master that cares about his food. One negative is they charge for water...... this is a pet peeve of mine that I cannot ignore....your finest restaurants dont charge for water and that is why I only leave four stars everything else is five stars.I see many negative reviews of their cost but I know smoking meat is time consuming and costly .....I have no complaints because you get what you pay for and it is quality with no exception. Discovered this place a couple months ago and have been going back ever since. by FAR the best place for BBQ in all of Anderson. The meat needs no sauce but they do have three kinds if you decide to use some. The sides here are what put this place over the top. Everything is made on site. One of the best BBQ restuarants we've found. If you enjoy good BBQed brisket on a pretzel roll with great slaw and homemade mac&cheese then this is the place for you. Good food and a good selection. I took my family of 5 along with the G-parents after church on a Sunday and the place was pretty full. We ordered everything from the chicken to the ribs and pulled pork as well and it was all good. Good portions, so there was plenty of leftovers to take home and it was even good cold. Love their food. I always get a pulled pork plate and I'm never let down. Besides one time when my food and bbq sauce was pretty much frozen and cold. Never had that happen again. That's my reason for the 4 starts instead of 5. Anyways, they have a lot of options and great sides. My fav is the Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. My husband is also super picky and this is his favorite place so that's another plus! He got me a t-shirt that I had been debating on buying from here and I regret not getting one sooner! These are amazing, so comfortable and lightweight! You HAVE to get a t-shirt from here. Amazing quality. They also have great outdoor seating and i never have to wait long for my food! They also double check your to go order with you before you leave so I love that because there is nothing worse than getting food to go and getting home only to realize it's wrong. We stop by this place every time we are in town, it is that good! We have been numerous times and it never disappoints. The BBQ chicken nachos are my favorite! There is queso at the bottom! I found this place on Yelp and wanted to give it a try. I had planned on ordering a BBQ combo so I could try more of the menu. BUT...a combo plate was $20+! Wow! Is this place expensive. I settled for the brisket plate which totaled $17.26 with tea. Still VERY expensive. I found it odd that sliced brisket was more expensive than chopped. The brisket was good but not Texas quality. Excellent pulled pork with a great hickory style sauce, and exquisite, nicely prepared and presented sides. Tucked away in a strip mall corner off the main drag, the location was very clean and the right mix of spartan and functional, with tasteful decorations. Thankfully I saw the billboard sign passing thru S.C. Its just a short 6min drive from the interstate. A great alternative to those off interstate fast food joints. I had the pork and beef plate with mac-n-cheese, sweet potato casserole and it was too much food. The bbq was awesome w/o any sauce, but seeing that the sauces are marketed and that they have their own brand I tried several. My only less than stellar note was that I like super spicy sauce and there was none. However, I realize I am in the minority. So, no big deal. The servers and front cashiers were friendly and all smiles. Just a warm place to dine even if BBQ is not your favorite. I am from central North Carolina. My wife is from eastern NC - we know a bit about good pork barbecue. Pompous Pig does a nice job, even for South Carolina ;). Chunks of succulent, tender meat - all served on your choice of texas toast, pretzel bread, or yeast roll. They offer several sauces including a hot apple cider vinegar that is similar to the NC staple. Although the beef brisket and ribs are good, PP does pork BBQ the best. Definitely one of the best pork restaurants in the Anderson area. Recommended! read more

I moved to SC 4 years ago. In that time, I have eaten at many of the BBQ places in town, but none hold the rating this place deserves. Food is served quickly and alays hot. The pulled pork is all pork, no fat. Portions are for a bigger eater, so I order off the childrens menu and still have a hard time finishing my sandwich. Well if you want some outstanding BBQ you will not be disappointed. Went with some friends who were celebrating their anniversary and we all loved it. I had the combo plate of ribs and brisket. ..huge portion brought more than half of the meat home. The ribs were fall off the bone and seasoned to perfection. Great choices for sauces which they make there. Met a local who is a frequent diner there who raved about the sides. I had sweet potato casserole and okra...also had a chance to try the greens which were amazing. Service was quick and friendly as well. The food was absolutely wonderful, I have not had collard greens this good since my mother passed away. Wow. Did I go to the right place? Maybe I missed something or should have taken in the Pompous Pig with someone who might have balanced my perspective on a place that has generated so many 4+ Star ratings. To me the combination of lousy parking, irritating doorbell and relatively dry meat combined to make my experience pretty average. The staff was perky and friendly and the food arrived quickly. But even the arm full of sauces couldn't save the experience for me. I'll try it on a future trip to Clemson but will be happy to try other locally owned and operated options before heading back to TPP. read more
