The food is delicious. The ribs are yummy which you can get it sauced or dry rub. Love the Brisket too. The fries were extra good this time. The owners and the staff is great. Got our food quickly. This is the first restaurant that we go to when we visit Anderson, SC. It's nice and comfortable. They even have a room that you could have a small get together. And, you don't even have to clear your table, they do it for you. They do take-out. You can call their restaurant and order your food. Eating there is a treat as well. Place was clean. Service was prompt and friendly. It is set up in a plaza. I ordered the ribs and brisket combo. Meat was very tender. Smokiness was a little weak for my taste. I ordered fried okra and collard greens for sides. The greens were very bland (not salt, vinegar, or even a ham taste). The okra was good. I opted for their dry rub. One can really taste brown sugar in the rub. No saltiness or spice to it. Definitely a sweet profile. Their selection of sauces is very diverse. Stopped here for a quick lunch. Lady at the counter was really nice and helpful. Hubby got 2 meat combo with 2 sides. I got the pulled pork quesadilla with extra pico and a side of sriracha aioli. I really enjoyed my quesadilla, it had good flavor, good filling and was great with the fresh pico de gallo. The brisket was just OK, a bit salty and meat kind of broke apart too much. Off the road a bit gem. We waited in line to find out they completely ran out of brisket was a bummer. The staff were absolutely delightful and sincere with their apology for running out so early. We decided to get a couple bbq sandwiches w fries. The food came out quick and was tasty. I prefer my bbq sandwiches with slaw and the places I usually go come that way by default. Next time here I will have to ask. The bbq vinegar they have is on the sweet side. My personal preference is for a spicier type vinegar. Our service with not that bad considering it's a seat yourself, but since they were catering, they couldn't handle us wanting parts of the menu, they were catering and couldn't offer us. Ribs were done to perfection, nice little tug but fall off the bone! Chicken was delicious! Sides executed perfectly, fried okra, potato salad, fries and Cole slaw all done wonderful! Sausage biscuits and gravy were great, there is an extra something that puts it over the top to perfection! The brisket Rueben was awesome. Nachos too!!! Portions were awesome and large. Usually I'm really good about taking pictures of my food before I eat, but I was hungry and it was so good and I forgot to take the picture until I was halfway done so I apologize for the unappetizing snapshot. Anyway, this place had a delicious pulled pork sandwich, just the right amount of smoke and they had 2 hot BBQ sauces (red and vinegar) that were amazing. I had a half of a sandwich with each and can't pick a favorite. I picked coleslaw as a side and slapped on my sandwich bc that's how I like it. I tasted the coleslaw on its own and it was better than most places I've tried. The place was so clean and even the bathroom was spotless. In the area at a campground and wanted to catch up with some friends that I hadn't seen in over 20 years. They recommended The Pompous Pig. We went there to catch up with everybody - oh yea - to eat as well. Now I know why they recommended it. The staff was very friendly, patient and helpful as a they helped this first timer select the fare for the evening - a pulled pork plate with slaw and a generous portion of fried okra along with some Yexas toast. Others had various sliders and BBQ chicken. Everyone was complimentary of their food. As we finished our meals the reminiscing continued. In fact - we didn't notice that the restaurant had closed and we were the only ones left. When we realized the situation we moved to the parking lot. As we left we apologized for staying that long. The staff assured us that it was no problem. So, we all recommend The Pompous Pig for great tasting BBQ (with several different sauces available), for the welcoming surroundings and for a very professional and courteous staff! If you're not from the are, you will pass by the restaurant. It's at the end of a small plaza in the corner. The sign off the street just says BBQ in a large yellow sign. The menu is basic bbq. Pulled pork, chopped chicken, and chicken nuggets, burgers for the kids menu. Sides are all delicious and many to choose from, we had potato salad and slaw for a side. Husband had the slaw and wasn't happy with it; too much vinegar. The potato salad had a nice flavor to it. Not too much mayo, it was yellow so I have no idea what made it that color. They give you a lot of meat. We Both had the pulled Pork sandwich's, tender pork and the buns were toasted and buttery. On the table they had mustard sauce, home grown sauce, Hot/ spicy and sweet hickory which we liked best. Hubby had a cup of Brunswick stew and he was delighted with the robust flavors. Coming into Anderson today I wasn't sure what to expect food wise. I've seen the sign for the The Pompous Pig as I passed before. Today was the day I gave it a shot! I ordered the 1/2lb pulled pork plate with mac n cheese and sweet potato casserole. The pork definitely had that smoked flavor while being juicy, plenty of smoke ring, and goodness it was delicious! The Mac is the old school egg custard base type that Mom made for me growing up! It was delicious as well! I'm usually reluctant to order any sweet potato dish, but I decided to take a chance today. It was delicious without being too sweet, smooth without lots of chunks, and AGAIN...delicious! Thank y'all for my lunch! I look forward to coming back here the next time I'm in town! read more
