Decent food but EXTREMELY overpriced. The drinks are also incredibly overpriced. Service leaves a lot to be desired if you're not a regular. It's in Platte City so smoking is allowed. The Smokey smell is obvious but thankfully there weren't but a couple of people there so it wasn't overpowering. I don't recommend by any means. There are plenty of other places around a few miles south in Kansas City that are better priced, better quality, cleaner and have much better service. read more

I travel with 16 & 17 year old summer baseball teams across our nation. We have a policy of not eating at chain restaurants but instead, on travel days, we choose lunch by Yelp reviews for wherever we are at lunch time. "The Pool Hall" was our choice today and what a terrific place! Walking up to it, opening an old fashioned screen door and entering a dark pool hall/bar atmosphere sure didn't slow my guys down! :-) We ordered everything from cheeseburgers to breaded tenderloin sandwiches, fried mushrooms, onion rings, french fries, and lots of sweet tea --- all were excellent. The meat on the cheeseburger I ordered was definitely handmade --- at least 3/4 of an inch thick after cooking. Today is Wednesday and unlike a previous reviewer, we were lucky to have several people working, including a sweet grandmotherly woman & GREAT cook and a nice waitress who told us the building has been there for over one hundred years and always been a bar for as long as anyone remembers. For five people lunch was $57, perhaps a little higher than fast food but definitely NOT fast food and worth every penny. We recommend "The Pool Hall". read more

Went in for a Togo order of wings. The dates on the ranch was old and they were watery and flavorless. The wings were so burnt we couldn't even eat them. They allow smoking inside and now that I've been I don't know why they let my teenage daughter inside. Never will order again read more

This bar will take you by surprise. Platte City allows smoking indoors still, so it isn't often I walk into a smoky bar nowadays. The staff here is super friendly and the locals can be either super friendly or a little standoff-ish.. depends on the night. However, the food here is actually really awesome and the drinks are very strong. We had a group and ordered for the table a cheeseburger, and 3 different side orders of fries. I can't remember what exactly was on each order of fries, but there was gravy, onions, cheese and all sorts of awesome greasy wonder. The cheeseburger was also incredible. Juicy and cheesy and greasy. While, I can't say you should drive here from down South, the food here is really great bar food and a great stop if you happen to be in the area and need a drink. read more

Local Platte City hang out. Blue collar, un-fancy, laid back. I've gone here a few times with friends after business. You can order food, but I've never partaken in the greasy goodness, but may have to one day. People are local, friendly and hospitable. One person's review complained of poor service. I mean really, the place is very small and if you want a beer, just stand up, go to the bar and ask for one. They are more than happy to get it for you! The place is all decked out in NOLA stuff, mardi gras beads, etc. Smoking is allowed so if you don't want to be around smoke, don't say I didn't warn you. The few times I've been though, nobody is really puffing up a storm however, so I can stand it for an hour or so. read more

This is the kind of bar every small town needs. I came in to watch the Royals game, have a burger and a couple beers. The double cheeseburger is so big I had to eat it open-faced. You watch them cook it right in front of you and the beer comes in frosty mugs. If I lived closer, this would be my place. The Pool Hall is a friend and family favorite! There are games in the back to play like pool and darts. There's karaoke some nights and a juke box others. The crowd is usually a nice mix of older and younger people with a low-lit, old-time, positive atmosphere. The service is great and when Sherry, the owner, is around to check in, she makes you seem like a regular even if it's your first time! It is a place that allows smoking which can deter you from or add to your experience. It's not a fancy, five star establishment but it is earning five stars from me and my crew. The burgers, steak tips and Texas Toothpicks are my fav and Fridays are (cheap) taco night! read more

Great locals joint to hang on a Friday night after work. Drinks are reasonable. Friday night taco night $1.25 each - they are awesome. They have a few pool tables and karaoke night is Saturday. They have some New Orleans deco - reminded our group of the NOLA trip we took last Halloween. read more

Implausible but true -- this place has GREAT FOOD at bargain prices. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. We had a burger (huge, but listed as 1/3 lb) and a pork tenderloin sandwich (even bigger) along with fries and onion rings. Pool room ambiance -- dark but not smoky, and good friendly service. Great burgers! Sliders is what we call them. Excellant pork fritters, everything on menu is good. Try getting in there for lunch and dinner.

I have loved this place since I was a child. With it being a "POOL HALL" most of us young girls weren't allowed to go there in the 1970's, but that has changed now, thank goodness. The tenderloins are my favorite and burgers are great as well. Tom and Sherri Hunt are great hosts. I always recommend this place to my friends and family. read more
