Amazing light design above your table!
Léah M.

Clopping your heels on wooden floors as you enter a place really adds to the atmosphere you'd associate with a steakhouse. The layout is warm, inviting and spacious. The staff were friendly and attentive. For the very first time in N.Z, the person who ordered ribs got a hot finger bowl to clean the sauce off with. (Often they are cold or luke warm) The portions were huge! My tip is that you order a main meal and share between two (unless you're big eaters!). You'll save money and have room for their delicious desserts after. All in all, a very good experience!

Sticky date pudding....YUM!
Ula L.

It is pricey but it is worth it! I had a scotch fillet and it was very tasty. I ordered with a garlic mash and mushroom sauce. I had bread as appetiser so my meal was very filling. The sticky date pudding was delicious! It just melts in your mouth. Next time I will skip the appetiser and go for mains. You will not be disappointed. Compliments to the service. They were very friendly and did a great job serving us that I even left them a tip. Definitely will be back again.

So it made perfect sense when the sky was turning dark and started to drizzle. The place was booming at 1pm, had about 20 odd people inside. I had a look around, they were all Koreans. Which means the place is quite popular amongst their own. Which is a good sign to me about the quality of the restaurant. I mean you hardly see any Chinese people eating at your local Chinese takeaways, if any? Right? The menu brought back some memories about high school. It's basically two pieces of printed A4 glued to the inside of a Manila folder. The whole left side is the drinks menu, the right side is the meat menu. I thought this Faro is gonna be like the other Faros, which served all kinds of Korean delicacies. And you'd be wrong if you think that too. This Faro is actually a steak house. I was very surprised. Pleasantly surprised. I know that the Koreans love their beef, they have 120 cuts of meat off a cattle. all the major steak types that we love in nz is listed on the menu. And Faro states their beef is aged 28 days. So I had high hopes even tho I didn't feel like a steak. I asked for the teriyaki pork Katsu, and after much debate my mate went for the 400g T bone. Ok, now comes the good part. The Katsu is priced at 15 dollars. The t-bone is priced at $28. I mean, the prices seems pretty normal for a steak house. Right? But... Lol. The price also includes the full all you can eat salad bar. I was speechless, literally. And when my Katsu arrived on the table, I was basically shocked. The portion is so generous compare to the 15 dollar price tag. And the meat is not wafer thin. It's real nice and thick and juicy. And the sweet teriyaki sauce is just perfect for the pork. My mate asked for a med rare steak. And it arrived med rare, I wasn't very impressed with his choice of garlic sauce for the steak tho. Oh well, each to their own. The Faro's version of garlic sauce did intrigue me a bit. It's a soy sauce based sauce. I didn't get to taste it, but my mate said it tasted fantastic. I don't know how he could chow down a whole t-bone, two plates of salad, and still reach across the table to eat most of my kumara fries and some of my Katsu. Lol. Well, this is a place that really did surprise me. The beef is tender and nice. The salad is free and all you can eat. The place is warm and cozy. Oh yea, I forgot that the service is very very friendly. And a huge lunch for two plus alcohol only costed 61 bucks in total. So Faro. Please keep up the good work.

But seriously - who does that in Pukekohe? This isn't anywhere close to the city where it's pretty much expected now. Luckily we were able to be seated right away - but It was directly opposite the door and whenever it was opened and closed a big gust of cold wind came past us. Not to be ungrateful because I would have to say at least five groups of people were turned away, who like me thought they could just turn up and expect a table. Clearly a very popular place to come! Our waitress was warm and welcoming and was easily able to provide us with recommendations for what to get depending on our appetite. I decided to stick with a classic steak, with onion crisps and béarnaise sauce washed down with a nice glass of red wine! I was told it was pretty decent and not to worry about getting an entrée. When the main arrived, I was not left disappointed by not ordering the entree, the main itself is a whole meal. I found the steak to be cooked quite nicely, medium rare. The béarnaise sauce suited the steak excellently... the only let down was the onion crisps, I say crisps because according to their menu it's suppose to be onion rings... but these were cooked well past that stage. Some tasted nice other tasted like burnt crisps you get at the bottom of a roast. Not entirely a bad thing! Even though the place was obviously busy it didn't feel like we were being pressured to hurry up and leave so they could turn the table over for the next group. The wait for our food was fairly average for the size and for the crowd, a busy place means a busy kitchen 35 mins - 45min. There are three places in Pukekohe that now specialise in Steaks. I'm having a really hard time to differentiate them. Each have their own sense of style and do the basics well, which is all a steak lover really wants. For this reason.. I'm calling it a tie for the time being. I am happy to rate them as follows; Food 4 / 5 - Shame about the over done onion crisps (rings) Service 4 / 5 - Warm, friendly and accommodating Price $33.00 - In line for what you get compared to other places Atmosphere 4/ 5 - Popular by nature Overall - 4 /5 - Book early and avoid the table by the door!
