LOVED this experience SO much!! Walking in the door can seem a bit overwhelming but the girls at the counter greeted us immediately and were very helpful with pottery choices. Ally walked us through the pottery and painting techniques and it was just a few minutes waiting on a table. The place was buzzing and there were so many talented people there... you could seriously be mesmerized just watching them paint! Back to pottery... choices for every person and every budget. I went to the pottery place with my kids and my two good friends and their kids. It was a Sunday, there were 10 of us, and the pottery place was very busy. They don't accept reservations, but their website claims they can seat 70, so we figured they could handle us. We even stated that we would prefer to be broken up into two tables, as this seemed more manageable for everyone. The manager said OK , and that we would be put on the waitlist. We waited patiently, browsing the selection and chatting amongst ourselves, trying to stay out of the way. When it was our turn to be seated, we were ushered to an eight person table. I addressed my concerns that there wouldn't be enough room for all 10 of us, and reiterated we were told we'd have two tables. They refused to honor that agreement. The extra seats that were pulled up for us did not fit the height of the table and I wasn't able to fit my legs underneath. I decided since I did not have proper accommodations, I would not purchase a piece to paint. I was really looking forward to painting something to give as a birthday present, and had planned on spending a good amount of money!! (I paid over $60 for my children to paint a mug and a 3 inch gnome.) We noticed that two tables remained available on either side of us for a while. We politely asked if we could use one of them and we were told no they were reserved. Nobody ever sat at one of them, and at no point for the remainder of our time there were there any less than two available tables in the room, just sitting there empty. I was upset by this experience. I was not friendly when settling up and paying at the end because I believed I was being treated poorly. I don't have to make eye contact and smile, and certainly couldn't find it in me to do so. I wrote a Yelp and a Google review when I got home. The following day I received a phone call from that same manager. She got my phone number off of my pick up information that I provided at the shop and called me at home, unsolicited. She gaslit me, made false accusations, and was defensive and argumentative. I certainly didn't write a review as an invitation for her to call and harass me. I wrote a review to alert other potential customers about a problem that was unresolved by the management of this business. They had the ability to accommodate us and went out of their way not to. We expressed that we were not satisfied, and they refused to make any effort. When I expressed my experience in my reviews, they contacted me to argue about it. Though I wish I had never been to the pottery place, I know there are plenty of other places I enjoy going, where I am treated well. read more

We were so disappointed with our experience here. We were in town 1 weekend for a bachelorette weekend. Our family had done dozens of these places over the years. I read good reviews and was excited. We had to pay a fee to reserve a room and had to paint a minimum of 8 pieces, there were 6 of us but it was fine. However we were rushed the whole time and never felt welcomed. The staff spoke poorly about us and apparently thought we couldn't hear. There was nothing special about the "reserved room" only additional fees. And the pottery is SO expensive, like twice the price of anywhere else I've ever been. We did 2 different plates and both plates have major cracking on them. All in all not a great experience and I wouldn't go back or recommend it. I will say they did a great job packing and shipping the items but we were really disappointed with the overpriced final product of plates. I'd suggest skipping this shop and maybe finding another one. We wish we had felt at all welcomed instead of a bother, especially for the amount of money we ended up spending in the shop. I ended up going to two different pottery places on back to back days. So this review is going to talk about the pottery place, as well as comparing it to the other competitor in town. First the positives, the space is clean, and the employees seem to truly care that every customer who comes in has a good experience. Tables were quickly cleaned up after guest left, and there was plenty of paint to be found. The turnaround time on projects is fairly quick as well. The negatives, this is a much smaller place so, if you happen to go on a busy day like we did on a Saturday morning, you may be standing and painting your pottery. There is an option to reserve a bigger table in the back, but 1) you have to put a deposit to hold it and 2) if your party ends up not being big, they may ask you to move to a smaller table in the front. Also, this selection of pottery to choose from is much, much smaller than the other pottery place in Chattanooga. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty to choose from however, if you want to paint some thing pretty specific, I would call ahead to make sure they have it. Also, their prices seem to be on the higher side. A small tree with the lights was a $55. read more

It was extremely busy but the staff still made sure that my friend & I felt welcomed and they were quick to clear out a space for us to sit!! Brought my children to make a gift for family. Several employees essentially stood around the whole time, seemed annoyed with any question and generally irritated by everyone in the store. I loved The Pottery Place! It's absolutely adorable inside and brought me right back to my childhood My husband and I went for a little date night and had the best time. The staff was very helpful as well! There are SOOO many options/items to choose from! Even if you aren't the most artistic or creative person there is something that will suit your style. They even have some items that have designs already on them, almost like an adult coloring book. This would be a super fun date idea (you can bring food and drinks too- yes, even alcohol!). OR- a ladies night It only got 4 stars due to the cost. It was $80 for two mugs! I understand that it's for the experience but it's just a bit pricey, not something you can do very often for the heck of it and more of an occasional treat. read more

Overview: Great little place for dates, a day with the family, and evening get togethers. Fairly priced and food and beverages are welcomed. Detailed Review: I was looking for a nice quite, yet creative date idea and stumbled upon this shop while in North Shore. I called later on to see if she (Kat) took Visa or MasterCard which they do! We arrived and was instantly greeted and told how it works. Simple as 1-2-3. Pick a clay model, find a seat, paint. You pay once you finish your project. You can return later if you didn't finish to finish it as well ( I'll be back tomorrow to finish ). There are tons of clay models to choose from: dishes, Tupperware, mugs and glasses, animals, banks, festive pieces, even Marvel comic models, you name it she probably had it somewhere. The prices range from how small and intricate each piece was ( 4$ - 18$ being the average with the occasional 21, 30, and 48$ pieces ). There are luxurious 80 and 90$ pieces that I would love to paint, but I'll have to wait on them haha (college student budget). Yet, it is only 6$ a person to paint 3$ for return painters!!! :) We spent about 3 hours that felt like 1 really on our project and had a great time. The other family that was there with us mingled in and out, and Kat came around regularly to check on how everyone was doing and talked to us while she was finishing other customer's projects for pickup the next day. I am overall happy with this experience and WILL DEFINITELY be returning for future painting experiences. Thank you Kat and The Pottery Place for giving us a relaxing evening - especially before finals week! Pros: - lovely bright and inviting environment - personable staff - food and beverages are welcome (pizza, cheese, and wine) - large selection of clay models to choose from Cons: - is a hidden little gem (not easily seen from the road) - can get a little pricy, BUT is CHEAPER than buying all the supplies and doing it at home! There are plenty of ceramics to choose from (they also have seasonal items), along with mosaics (including creating your own photo mosaic) and they have glass pieces you can work with. I will not be painting here again. Not because the experience was bad (we had a great time) but because of the employees. Two of the girl employees had sour attitudes over the phone when I called to see if my pottery was ready to be picked up. I called Friday and was told by one of them that my pottery would be ready to pick up anytime on Saturday. Before driving up there Saturday I called them again before they opened just to make sure and I was told that I would receive a call back in a few minutes, hours went by and no call back. So, I called them again after they had been open for an hour and asked the same thing. The second girl employee I spoke with had a VERY SOUR attitude with me stating that my pottery would be available for pickup on Sunday and told me that my things had been mixed in the someone else's stuff and she acted like she didn't want to be at work. I understand that this Covid thing has businesses understaffed but there is no need for employees to be rude to customers whatsoever. If you work in a customer service job then you need to understand that the customer is ALWAYS right no matter what. Customers don't want to pay for a bad experience and we definitely won't recommend a place that is flat out rude to us when it's your fault that everything got mixed up and misfired.
