After the worst hair salon experience of my life with Timon Cana at Giuseppe Franco, I walked one block over to the Private Room with orange hair so I could see it in the light, I had been so traumatized by the prior hairdresser's behavior and work that I could not even go back to the office or look at what she has done. Tina took one look at my face and my orange hair, plopped me in a chair and shampooed me with Blonda, free of charge she said. She GENUINELY cared that I was so distraught. She was not trying to take advantage of where I was at emotionally. She sat there and shampooed me and blow dried me and said "don't worry about it" and got the brassiness out. She listened, communicated well and is a beautiful, genuine person which in Beverly Hills, is next to impossible to find. I will be back, and I will send friends. I have not yet decided to color correct or shampoo with Blonda for a month, all I know is Tina got me through the roughest salon experience of my life. read more

I love having my hair cut and colored once it's done, but I usually dread going to salons... it can be such an ordeal between checking in at a front desk, being corralled to a stuffy changing room with dozens of people's clothes hanging all over the place, waiting 20 minutes to see your stylist because the front desk overbooks, etc. But The Private Room is the opposite experience. I walked in and the sweet receptionist knew my name and offered me a cookie or a beverage. I walked 3 feet over to a changing area and saw Marlena right away. The salon is small and cozy and owned by two great women, which is always worth supporting. They've obviously worked their butts off to get this business off the ground. But most importantly, Marlena is wonderful and so talented. I am so happy with my color and cut - she really listened to me and brought her own expertise to the table. I went from blond highlights to a beautiful, rich brown, so this was no simple trim and touch up. When she blew out my hair, she gave me a very comprehensive lesson on the best way to do it. I'm 30 years old and I always thought I knew how to blow dry my hair, but Marlena taught me a heck of a lot. I left there very happy and satisfied, rather than the usual get-me-out-of-this-loud-pretentious-salon feeling I normally have. It's Beverly Hills, so it's not cheap, but they could definitely get away with charging more in that area and they keep it pretty reasonable. I love The Private Room!! I am the type of person who likes to switch up cuts and colors and try new things. Tina is fantastic at really listening to my wants and then achieving the look I'm going for. She's taken me from deep brunette to medium blonde, bangs, no bangs, edgy to elegant... whatever I want I know she can do it, while keeping the integrity of my hair in tact. Pretty awesome! TIna also does the BEST extensions, Ballet Extensions to be precise. She is a true artist. First she customized the hair so the color was a perfect match, then she used her own special technique to put the hair in and blend it. I've never had so many compliments on how long and beautiful my hair was--I didn't tell people it wasn't my hair :). It looked so natural and lasted a really long time. When I decide to do it again, I'm going back to Tina. I also get Keratin treatments here, I've had a few different stylists in the salon give me my KT and each time was great. It makes blow-drying my hair so easy! I've also been to Kami for the Bang Station-- I went for the 'Bombshell" look and loved it. I saw pictures of Tina's work and I had to go to her! She did a whole color correction and fixed the discoloration in my hair. It all began so innocently. I, a girl with "signature bangs," bought a Gilt City voucher: 5 bang trims for $40. Now, to be fair, my own hairstylist usually cuts my bangs for free (many salons do in order to earn good will with clients, as a trim usually takes 7-10 minutes.) But I couldn't resist the phrase "Bang Station," went ahead and got the voucher. The first time I went in was a few weeks before the voucher expired. When I went in, I asked if I could come back for my other 4 trims after the expiration date because I probably wouldn't need a cut for a while. I was told it would be no problem. I'll mention here that 1. The place was empty when I went and 2. Honestly, they only did a so-so job. So admittedly, I went back to the salon about 2 months later for my second trim. (I had gotten a cut in between.) The place, again, was a ghost town. I was told at the front desk that the voucher expired. I explained what had been told me previously. That's when Tina, the owner, decided to make an appearance from the back to personally fight me on getting this bang trim when -- AGAIN -- there was not a customer in the house. Eventually, she said "I'll honor it this time, but that's it." Well each trim is $20, and the voucher was for $40, so essentially she was saying "Im doing you no favors and ps F. off." I got my bangs trimmed, the job was again only OK. In a way, she did me a favor: I have no reason of going back. (Note that each time I tipped the stylist $15 out of "Gilt guilt." Money they'll no longer see.) So, a summary: Tina, you gotta work on your personal skills. I'm a beauty editor but more than that, a loyal customer when I love a place. I can assure you I'll never set foot or bang back in your salon, nor will I recommend it to people. Ladies with bangs and/or hair: Save your cash and parking $$ and go elsewhere. read more

Many weeks ago I googled the best bang haircuts in Los Angeles. By all of the positive reviews I read about this place, I went here. Yelpers you were spot on. Kami did her magic and cut my bangs to precision and had a true interest to make them look good. (my hair was all one length, and I was looking for a change) I was genuinely shocked because it was only $20 + tip.) This was no Fantastic Sams by any means. Fast forward a few weeks later, my bangs needed to be trimmed but I didn't want to fight the traffic to get there, so I went to the lady who had did my hair prior; big mistake. (This was not Fantastic Sams, just closer to where I live-same price point) Ugh, I could have done that myself as they looked like an amateur did them. A few days later, I was feeling down about the way I looked, I called her to discuss highlighting my hair (which is something that I do on a regular basis) and of course correcting my hideous bang trim. I figured if she did that great of job on my bangs she would do the whole shebang. Made an appointment, and the rest is history. I felt like a million bucks when I walked out which fit the Beverly Hills persona. Let me be clear, this wasn't a one day feeling either, it is still lingering. She truly is a hair artist, I am not even sure if that is appropriate, but I will add hair GENIUS to be politically correct. I am a 4 time hair salon owner and Hair Extension Specialist. I have a hard time finding someone at the same level as I am at in the hair extension world to do my hair. I'm super picky and it's not the kind of service you get unless the person is seriously a master at there craft. Tina the owner is!! She is literally my neighbor as my salon boutique is upstairs. Tina took me in with open arms, she treated me like a queen, I felt so comfortable and confident in her work I didn't even sit there and micro manage her .... as I usually do to people . For the first time in years I actually got to talk her ear off and not even care what the heck she was doing to my fine fried hair because I could tell she was on point in 30 seconds. Love this salon and especially Mia, who I will call The Brow Guru. Went yesterday and not only did she clean up my brows, she did what I've always wanted a pro to do -- shape them so they're even. I feel like one brow arches in a different spot, and no one (and I mean, no one, not even fancy brow places) have been able to correct it. Mia really took the time to look at my brows and figure out exactly what was going awry. She did a small amount of waxing but mostly painless plucking to get just the right shape. I've never been happier with the way they look. And, to boot, it's $10-$15 less than other salons. I'll never go anywhere else! read more

I've been going to Matt for a couple of years now. Everyone who has ever touched my blonde locks (I'm actually brunette) has turned them brassy, except for Matt! I travel from the valley to the salon, which has the nicest, most accommodating staff, and it's well worth it. The salon has nice light coming in from the large front windows which I like so I can see the true color of my hair in natural light. Went to KAMI at The Private Room for a desperately need haircut this past Tuesday. I am so pleased with the end result, that I had to leave a rave review for her. This salon is wonderful, its clean, comfortable, and organized. I also need to mention that the staff is very friendly. Kami's talent and skills are exceptional. There are so many salons to choose from in LA, with "average" hairdressers. Kami is way above average. I have a bob, which is not an easy haircut to execute properly. I mean the name says it all. Tina and her talented staff make you feel like a VIP and are SO warm and inviting. The space is modern, gorgeous (make sure you peep in the bathroom..the wallpaper is amazing), and the girls really take care of you. The first time I came here my hair was GREEN (pool chlorine overload). Tina got rid of the green and gave me THE best hair cut. I always thought I should do layers but since my hair is super fine she suggested doing all one length and my hair ended up looking so much thicker and healthier. Recently I stopped in for some beachy balayage highlights which I'm loving..it will probably be my go-to service. My ashy blonde hair now looks naturally sun-kissed and ready for summer! Make sure you try out The Glossary too (one of their signature services)...the conditioning treatment made my hair baby soft and extremely shiny..good for between seasons when hair is dull/flat/blahh. I always see girls getting extensions done too (Tina is an expert)...they look so natural..even when she pulled up the hair into a ponytail/up-do. Tina and the ladies at TPR know what they are doing. I have never been happier with my hair. I got the most amazing cut back in November with new edgy bangs. Went back a few weeks ago to bang station and tidied them up. Tina also suggested a few different ways I could style my hair on my own. Also, any time I need to be red carpet ready, I definitely call upon Tina to create an amazing 'do that turns heads. Her creativity and talent is of the charts.
