Had a late lunch with friends at the Pub and ordered wee fish and chips. Perfect small size because I wasn't really hungry, but my friends ordered the large fish and chip chips. Large size is huge! If you're hungry, I would recommend getting a large. There's also a medium but no one ordered that so I can't describe it. Fish was moist and tasty, fries were good, too. The Pub (chain) accurately describes itself as British "inspired" - it is a huge place that is not giving off a cosy British pub feel at all; more like a Cheesecake Factory vibe in that sense. But the decor is very charming and the tremendous bar is a beautiful reproduction of something out of a grand London ballroom. They have divided up seating areas to create some sense of intimacy and we sat in the little snuggery-type area up front. The food was great. I primarily came for the Scotch Egg which was nicely done and well presented, though I think I would have liked it better if the egg was not quite as hard cooked. It's a great appetizer for two at a reasonable price. My husband had the Mum's Pot Roast and absolutely loved it, meat so tender and shreddable, rich gravy, perfect vegetables. I chose the wee Fish and Chips which was plenty to eat. The haddock was firm and flaky, the batter delicious, the chips (or fries to you Yanks) were golden and lightly crispy. The coleslaw very cool creamy and tasty and balanced the dish perfectly. I asked for some curry on the side to dip the chips and glad I did. We both really enjoyed our meals. I had a Smithwick's ale. They've got a pretty extensive beer selection. Service was a little on the slow side but we could see it was due to limited number of waitstaff. We were there around 3 PM. This was an incredible experience. From start to finish we thoroughly enjoyed our early dinner at The Pub. Food was 10 out of 10. I got the fish & chips and my wife got the shepherds pie. Man oh man...you gotta order that stuff. SO GOOD! The Pub had a great vibe. It was a bit noisy but not intolerable. Check out the pics of the food and my beer flight...great choices all around. Our biggest complaint was our service. While she didn't do horribly, she didn't do great either. She just served us...nothing unique or unusual. We got a bit frustrated because she walked by our table multiple times and didn't even try to make eye contact. We clearly were done and yet she didn't bring our bill. We appreciate not being rushed out, but man, you could help keep the process moving along too. We were not choosing to hang around after our meal...she just wasn't bringing us our check. I have eaten inside this restaurant before but had never tried take out. So, I placed an order on DoorDash. The restaurant has a variety of options available, including British-style Fish and Chips. However, I wanted to try something different. So, I ordered their Belhaven Burger, well-done with a side of coleslaw. The Belhaven burger is an 8 ounce hamburger patty, served on a pretzel bun with beer cheese and crispy fried onions. The burger was cooked well-done, as I had asked, and looked really tasty. It is a good burger and the beer cheese and crispy fried onions add a little kick but it isn't too spicy. The beer cheese is more like a spread than actual cheese. It's not a sauce but it's not a slice of cheese either. The crispy fried onions are very good and are similar to onions one might find at a salad bar. This is an excellent burger and I enjoyed it a lot. The coleslaw is good but not as creamy as I would have wanted it to be. The burger was packed carefully in a eco-friendly cardboard/paper container and the coleslaw was in a plastic bowl. The coleslaw was a good size. Ketchup and malt vinegar condiments were included and eating utensils if requested. I heartily recommend. The burger is really good, everything was packaged carefully, and overall I feel it's a good value. I would definitely order here again. read more

And the tequila cranberry Mule was super refreshing, with a nice kick from the tequila and ginger beer The fish and chips were amazing. The batter was crispy on the outside, and the fish was flaky on the inside. It came with fries and tartar sauce, which were both great My wife had the cranberry pecan salad with a fish slider, and she loved it. The Pub is on the corner of The Greene. The atmosphere and place are welcoming and so were the host and waiter. They were polite and attentive to us. I loved that the drink menu had quite a list of nonalcoholic options A few suggestions: more vegetarian, GF, and vegan options. At least offer a substitute in the menu. I had the Caesar salad and hubby had the shepherds pie. I would also suggest keeping up the with the bathrooms, the soap dispenser on one end was empty while the other barely had any left, waste hadn't been taken care of, the water on the sink sprayed everywhere but the basin and overall cleanliness was a 2 out of 5. read more

I've also enjoyed the Scotch Egg. Both are about as good as it gets in our area when it comes to British pub food. Because The Pub is a short distance from the university, we enjoyed frequent visits. No doubt that The Pub will entertain for rowdy events as well. Tonight we ordered "Best Fish & Chips in the US." The title is a gross exaggeration, but the fish and chips were aggregable. Mum's Pot Roast was our second choice and this dish was nearly as good as my mother's. A great place to hangout in the Greene. The place is vibrant and little rustic. The service was good. Coming to the food: Their fish and chips were on point. Single portion is huge for one person and so we asked for an additional plate. But they got the order in two separate plates and it sufficed for me and my wife. I loved the pub when I visit Beavercteek Ohioe in Ohio. I have dined there over a dozen of times But this past June around the 19th I ate there and unfortunately I got food poisoning! I was extremely sick that night. Won't go into the horrible details. I know it was from my last meal I ate that dinner. I just hope noone else got sick. This is a British themed pub in the Greene. It has a lot of décor and a strong theme. There is a large selection of whisky and beer, but they were out of several beers that we asked about. I got the Sheppard's pie. This was pretty good. It came with a side of balsamic salad with red pepper. It was fresh. The Sheppard's pie had a good taste. There were spices in the pie and sufficient meat underneath the potatoes. The top was crispy, and the parm also added to the taste. It was a fair price. I think it was like $13 or something like that. I was surprisingly left a little hungry through. Usually shepherd's pie is filling but I guess this one wasn't. The service was very slow, and some of my group was not happy that it took so long to order and to get the check. I think everyone was generally happy with the food itself though. read more

Dirty Fries (loaded with bacon, Maker's Mark BBQ, cheddar, scallions, choice of British chips or sweet potato fries) 2. Young's BBQ Burger (8 oz. beef, cheddar, Young's Double Chocolate Stout BBQ, Guinness onions, maple pepper bacon, brioche bun) with a side of British chips 3. This place has the exact same layout as the Park Lane Tavern in Hampton, VA. The menu is different though. I went here two nights in a row. The Food pics are from a Wednesday night and our service was great. The following night I only got a couple of beers and the staff was great but it took an awfully long time to get my drinks and it wasn't crowded. I assume they were prioritizing their eating customers and we had a trainee with our waitress too. The Scotch eggs were very good. I prefer scot h eggs with a runny yolk which is traditional but I haven't found a restaurant that does them that way. The textures were great and the sausage was very flavorful. They were eggcellent!!! The Welsh dip was very good. Juicy even without dipping but very good. The bread soaked the dip up but retained a little crispness on the outside. The salad was pretty standard and I asked for that as a substitute to fries. I also ordered a Smithwicks red ale. It was good. Light and refreshing. Prices were average. Ok, I'm going to make a bold statement...the Fish & Chips I just had here were the best I've ever had the pleasure of eating. And I'm from the Pacific Northwest where we're very proud of ours. They were so crispy on the outside, and beautifully flaky moist perfection on the inside. Wow! I couldn't imagine a better experience.
