Dropped in after helping my friend pack up for a move to Colorado. It was great they had a parking lot (that fit the moving truck) and an outside patio for toasting with beer and eating some burgers. The appetizers we ordered, the curds, pretzels, and fries were all very tasty with the hanging pretzel being a definite crowd-pleaser. I also had the Guinness burger which was cooked to perfection. My wife and I bought a house in the Cheviot area so we could be close to my new grandson. My realtor, the great Ed Farrell, kept telling me about the Public House. So once we got settled in the new house, we tried the Public House. In our previous homes, we have always looked for and found a go-to friendly local pub with well above average food. We found that kind of really good pub in the Public House. We came in for a very late lunch at 3 o'clock. It's hard to tell if it's a seat yourself or wait for somebody. We decided to seat ourselves. The table was a little dirty which we at first didn't notice or would have chosen another open table. Most of the tables seat 6 or more and it was just my wonderful wife and I and there weren't many small tables. It didn't matter. Within a very short time we were greeted by 3 different people who were very anxious to clean up the menial mess on the table. The gal who first greeted us got this 13 year old young man(I'm guessing her son) to clean the table. He was so serious about making the table shine. Neat youngster. Mom wanted to know right away if we wanted something to drink. I ordered a hazy IPA beer and my wife a Chardonnay. They have a very good selection of beers and I really liked my hazy IPA. So far, very good. We had like 3 people keeping an eye on the table without being intrusive. I ordered their regular burger and my wife ordered wings in garlic butter type of sauce. The food came up looking and feeling very fresh. At first, I saw the actual burger and it looked very shaped. Usually I associate that shape with bland generic frozen patties. I was very wrong. The burger was very tasty. The meat was moist and spiced perfectly. That's something you rarely find. The whole burger was fresh, tasty and made me want to order another. Their fries were really really good. They don't look special but they were medium sized and crunchy. Better than McDonalds. My wife had the wings in Garlic butter sauce. I knew she really liked them when she offered me a bite but not a whole wing. The wings were very meaty, tender, cooked evenly and the sauce was divine. As you look around the bar, you notice that it looks like there are a lot of people who are regulars by their group conversations. Overall, we were very happy with the meal, drinks and service and are likely to make this our go-to Cheviot place. They also have a downstairs that would be great for lots of get togethers. Probably groups of 100 or less. Find your way to The Public House. It's worth it. read more

Granted it was St Patrick's Day and the place was packed (~ 4:30 pm). The bartender actually did her best to not look at people as to not take any orders. Then we got her attention, I asked for 2 Guiness, the response "we are out of Guiness, you will have to wait". That was it. So we ordered something different. We then ordered food, my wife got a BLT and the bacon was black/chard and I got the Rueben, the toast was chard. The other thing I noticed, we got plastic cups for the first round, then when the managers came out to help, we all of sudden started getting the authentic Guiness glasses. Bottom line, don't go to Public House on St Patrick's Day, so many different (and better) choices in Cheviot. read more

Solid all around experience. Bar staff was great as was the waitstaff. Menu is a bit big and a bit daunting to take in but the pickle chips and onion rings are totally on point. Rings are a touch sweet and don't require any dipping sauce at all. Pickle chips are solid with the Dukes sauce. Her food didn't come out for another 9 minutes. She was supposed to get fries, but didn't. Those took another 7 minutes. Would have been nice for it all to have got to the table at once. So I returned on a busy Monday night of a neighborhood trivia league and the national college championship game and was very impressed with how well the kitchen handled the crowd. Everyone at my table loved the food and beer selection. Only one guy was mildly disappointed with the skins: "too much potato, not enough good stuff," and no he had not read my previous review before ordering. The staff was efficient, but friendly and the beer flowed cold and quick, despite the crowd. I want to end this update of explaining why this place will be in my regular rotation for lunch: The GottaGoettaPizza. One word. Amazing. This is the perfect pizza to go with the Warstiener Dunkle they always keep on tap: They start with that buttery, puffy yeast crust coated in cheese and ranch, then topped generously with fried goetta, bacon, and onion. Ok, I love this place. I had never heard The Public House until they were a participant for Burger Week 2018! We sat at the bar like we do most places. We received WONDERFUL service from all the wonderful ladies behind the bar. They were all friendly, attentive and poured the PERFECT Guinness ever! We ordered the burger special their Guinness Burger. And OMG it was damn juicy and delicious. I highly recommend this tasty burger topped with caramelized onions. I ordered their hot buffalo wings which they bring in a bowl that has ALL THE SAUCE! I loved that! Also we shared a $3 plate of GIANT BACON CHEESE FRIES. Delicious! This place is a cool pub in cheviot and I want to visit again and again. This is for sure a new favorite! read more

I've enjoyed a lot of snacks and cocktails at this neighborhood haunt, but this is a BRUNCH REVIEW. If you're able to make the short timeframe for Sunday brunch, it's totally worth it. The frittatas are like a cross between an omelette and a pizza in the true spirit of brunch. They didn't have bubbly for mimosas this day, but I made due with a screwdriver. My only "complaint" is that brunch should really last until 2 or 3 like most places out of respect for the hungover. read more

I came here for a second visit, two days in a row. The food was great yesterday and I wanted to try something different since I had hoped this could become a neighborhood hangout. The daytime bartender was cool and seemed to have a great attitude. I just moved here last week to the Cheviot area. However, today the gentleman that works as your daytime bartender brought up the Pride Pub Crawl and made some derogatory comments and actions about it and the LGBTQI+ community. I would be ashamed if I was letting someone on staff have those conversations with customers, especially when you don't know who may be at the bar and/or if it may offend. As a member of the LGBTQI+ community, it was disheartening to hear him encourage the conversation with customers and even other employees. My partner and I will absolutely not be coming here ever again. read more

I have eaten at this location a few times both for dinner and for brunch - typically before or after theater rehearsal as the theater is a block or so away. I have to say that I enjoyed the brunch the most and even that was mediocre. The dinner options are just okay. I have ordered a burger and fries. The food is just typical of any other bar and grill - nothing spectacular. The brunch was a little bit better, but still just average. I was not blown away by the french toast that I had. The serving sizes were small for the price. The service leaves much to be desired as well. I don't know if the waitresses that I have had are just having a bad day each time I visit or if they just do not like their job. The wait to order food was most likely 10-15 minutes long and another 30-40 for our food. The cleanliness of the tables was lacking. The bathroom was the cleanest part of the whole pub. If you're looking for a basic pub and generic bar food, then this is your place. read more

Great patio for chilling and having a good conversation with friends. The prices are fine and average for westside bars. The service can be slow, so hopefully this will get ironed out as time passes. I am not sure if the downstairs area is still used on the weekends as a bumping dance area. It reminds me of a frat basement, but hey, sometimes that's what you're in the mood for. The redesign leaves a weird taste in my mouth as the sheep wallpaper make little sense and rather slipshod bathroom make me want to wait until I get home. (fix the walls and actually spruce it up please) TV's are easily viewed from any seat, so you'll have no trouble watching a game. As far as Cheviot bars go, this is a little above average, but still has some room for improvement. While I will probably revisit, it is not my first choice by a long shot. I am not sure if PH wants to portray a classier vibe or something, but it needs to work on some fundamentals before it can become the best of the west. *Oh, and maybe have one or two healthy items on the menu.
