The first time a loaded gun was pointed at my head, I was nine. In school. That lucky fellow got to go to a special school after that. You would think that this episode would be the end of my trouble with guns, but during my teen years classmates had accidental shootings and suffered self-inflicted gunshot wounds. This was all just a warm up for my adventures on the wrong side of a weapon during travels in my 20s. Rather than run from guns, I like to embrace things that scare me. But I also like the safety and security of learning to shoot in a controlled environment. If someone has a gun pointed anywhere in my general direction, they damn well better know how to use it. My experiences at this range have been nothing short of wonderful. It helps tremendously to go with friends that (a) know what they are doing and (b) have really cool weapons for you to shoot. You don't need to be a member, but you do need to bring in your own (unloaded) firearm. They also have a variety of guns for rent so you can see what suits you. You buy all your ammo at the range and they have ten targets for sale, including your standard bullseye and profile targets. One of my visits was on Valentine's Day and there was a couple on a date shooting a homemade target in the shape of a heart [1]. Precious. If you are a first time visitor, you'll start by watching a safety video and taking a written test. You'll also get a rundown on the range rules from the very helpful staff. My first visit included some joking about shooting the ceiling or the floor. "If you shoot the ceiling, I will laugh, charge you $30, then escort you from the building." Actually all of my visits have included a lot of laughter, much of it stemming from my ridiculous attempts to accurately shoot a .45. G.I. First time shooting and so happy that I did it here. The staff are just civilians who know A LOT about fire arms and so they were uber helpful in giving great advice on how to line up your gun and target and all. They first have you watch a short safety video and then have you take a True/False, circle in the bubbles kind of quiz right after before you get your hands on any guns. It also seemed that they had a large selection of rental guns available as well. My friend had a 9mm and 40 caliber but unfortunately there is shortage on bullets for the 9mm so 40 caliber it was! Even with the protective eyewear and headset for the ears, it's still intimidating when the first bullet is shot out of the gun. I literally had sweaty palms! Still at 10 yards I got all but 1 bullet close to the chest area of the target as possible. Nerve wrecking experience but can't wait to go back to practice some more when I am in town again! read more

Went here for a course required before I can apply for a permit to carry a concealed weapon. They offer an Oregon only option, but for a little more time and money you can get the Oregon/Utah, which is a great value added. Utah has reciprocity, allowing a Utah permit holder to carry in other states (check the list before you hit the road!). I am often on the road for long car trips, just me or with my dog, and I appreciate the ability to legally carry. The instructor was one of the best I've had in any subject. Daryl was friendly, direct, and knowledgeable. His expertise comes through in everything he says and demonstrates. He was very relatable and when he walked us through scenarios we were able to consider every aspect because of his guidance. I'll be taking gun handling courses here and I hope he is my instructor again. I felt safe with him, and had no anxiety at all. Thanks, Daryl. Carrying concealed is a big responsibility and requires that you think about not just can you shoot, but should you shoot. Daryl reminded us of that and also drove home the importance of being prepared mentally as well as physically. I'm glad I took this course here. Calling all you outdoor Adventure enthusiasts! There are classes abound at this facility. I love outdoors, hiking, biking,boating, clamming any way ,,, you get the idea. Decided to take this class called wilderness survival to up my skills in case I need it. I Highly recommend this class to anybody who picks mushrooms, hikes,mountain climbs. This class was taught by deputy John Gibson who has done search and rescue, And Eric who is a medicolegal death investigator, these two work well together with a wealth of information and occasional witty banter. While I consider myself to be a overachiever and always prepared( my husband always says, This backpack is so heavy what is in here? I always laugh and say everything to keep you alive for a week!) but I did learn a lot. Things that are important for survival. This facility is clean and safe. The armory attendants are friendly, which made my first visit downright pleasant. I met a friend here one Friday afternoon. Apparently, Friday is Ladies Night, so you save $10 off the lane fee. I'll take the ovary discount, thanks. I arrived 10 minutes prior to the public hours, right at the tail end of SWAT training. The place was loaded with enormous, fully outfitted, fully weaponized SWAT team members. These guys were completely and utterly hard core. I was both terrified and fascinated as I watched them finish for the day. At one point I realized I had caught my breath and needed to remind myself to breathe. Once the range was ready for the public, I was directed to a computer to watch a short safety video and take a quick test on what I had just learned. The armory attendant got us set up with a few boxes of ammo and a couple different targets. We were outfitted with "eyes and ears," got a quick safety lesson, and let loose on our lane. It was quickly apparent that we needed a bit more direction than that. And we got it. The armory guy spent about 10 minutes with us, showing us the proper way to stand, the proper way to hold the gun, what to do when the hot casings landed in undesirable places on our persons (yep, as Katrina W. mentioned in her review, put the loaded weapon down first before fishing them out). I cannot stress enough the importance of a high neck, long sleeve shirt. Fashion (and cleavage) be damned. They have a sizeable wall of rentals available for the trying, though you must bring a working firearm with you in order to rent one. I had so much fun shooting here I bought my own piece so that I can go back whenever I want. I even bought a membership. I tend to be all-in or all-out when I decide on something. I hadn't touched a handgun in over 50 years, when my son gifted me a gun for safety/recreation and my wife purchased PST101 for me as a Christmas gift to help re-learn basics of gun safety. I was a little apprehensive about the gun, spending a full day and the money for the class until I walked in. The staff at the Public Safety Training Center was extremely accommodating and professional. The instructor, David Young was very experienced/knowledgeable, very focused on safety first, and had the presentation skills to hold class accountable to safety while providing a positive environment and motivation to learn new skill sets while having fun at the same time. David had the assistance of a team of coach's- Joe, Donna and Susan to assure the entire class developed a solid foundation of the correct skill sets to build on and practice perfectly into the future. This class is a bargain, and I would highly encourage this class to anyone who prefers learning gun skills the right way. read more

Good Indoor Shooting Range The public safety training center is a public indoor shooting range ran by Clackamas county sheriff office. They are a one stop range. If you don't have a gun they can rent you one. They have ear and eye protection. They have many targets to choose from. They have a lot of parking and the building is kept clean and nice. If you haven't been before you must take watch and safety video and take a test. The only bad thing is you have to buy ammo from them. They aren't cheap; they keep a lead free range. And don't think about sneaking in your own. They are watching the lanes. So expect to pay 15-20 dollars a box. Overall a nice place to shoot. They do keep odd hours but if you don't have your own place to shoot, then this is your place. read more

Number one, all the people here that gave reviews have more than one friend and more than 3 reviews. That tells me that the 4.5 star rating is true, that is why I chose them first. With that being said I don't think I can add much to what has already been said here by others. Took the wife here this morning, been years since we shot any kind of weapon. When you walk in the place is clean. Guys at the counter were friendly and helpful. You do not need a membership to shoot here but you do need to bring with you a working firearm. Short video plus a short true or false test. With their help we picked out the Glock 19 9mm and a Ruger .22 to shoot. When we asked questions they were more than happy to give us guidance. Yes the ammo is expensive and you have to use their ammo but if you know this going in then it's not too much of a shock. It was a very good experience and if you are looking for a indoor place to shoot I do recommend the PSTC in Clackamas. Also they have training classes that I am going to look into. This was our first indoor range ever and would consider a membership after a purchase of a handgun. read more

Lots of rental firearms. decent ammo prices considering you have to shoot theirs. the officers who work the counter and teach classes are all friendly and know their stuff. The range itself is modern, clean, and has good range. Other shooters are also friendly one even took the time to give my wife a mini lesson on stance one day. Before pulling up to this range off of 82nd, I had fears. Fears that I would be a scardy cat when it came to shooting a gun for the first time. Fears that the employees and patrons of this range would be mean and uninviting. I'm not a huge supporter of unrestricted gun rights, to put it plainly. Thankfully, these fears were lame. My shooting party and I were given great instructions and a list of helpful things to keep in mind (such as, "It will be loud.") I even turned out to be a pretty sharp shooter. We were even given used targets shot up by other patrons as a souvenir. (Weird, I know.) I don't think I'll make going to the PSTC a regular habit, but I'll definitely consider going again. They have free donuts, too! read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! My girlfriend and I were treated like COMPLETE idiots. The police officer had out his nice m4 and Ak47 which he just sat there cleaning, then, when we asked some questions about beginner's pistols, he was all Glock and over-reacted when we didn't hold the empty firearm DIRECTLY AT THE "AIM GUN HERE" sign-like we had just shot at him! I'll let her explain it: Customer service is non-existant at this place. Unless you're some kind of law enforcement then I would not go here to shoot. They're way too overpriced and their guns are worn out and used up anyway. You HAVE to use their ammo which adds up. For two people be prepared to spend at least $80. Rip off! I was new to shooting and the guy there made me feel like I was a criminal. He could've shown me in a more professional manner how to properly hold a gun. I live on the north end of Multnomah County and am close to at least one other gun range yet my friends aren't always as close. We chose to shoot at the CCSO Gun Range because of the location. We went in too late one evening and all the ranges were taken but the two obnoxiously fun armory guys were fabulously giving and taking abuse and I instantly felt at home. They told us about Friday night, Ladies Night! $5 range fees for women. Score! We came back on Friday night and the gentlemen were just as obnoxious as before, giving as good as they got, but amazingly helpful when it came to firearm safety and taught my friend and I in ways that we were both able to understand. The range is clean and feels secure, the guys in the armory are knowledgeable, helpful and fun and there are plenty of times available to go shooting. What more could you want? Oh yes, CLASSES! I'm looking forward to the class schedule coming out and being able to take classes with the taller of the two obnoxious armory guys ;) Guns to rent, a variety of targets and amo to purchase, free eye and ear protection and excellent instruction. My partner and I completed the 101 Basic Handgun Skill development class. David Young was our teacher and he was an absolute gem. It's an all day course, and he had taught the same class the day prior. But he showed up with enthusiasm, energy, and presence for our class. Really grateful to him, his years of experience, and emphasis on safety above all. We are absolute novices, and my partner was especially nervous when first on the range. David took the time to reassure her and build her confidence. She left the class feeling positive and excited to learn more. We also had two wonderful coaches who came and worked with us on the range. In all there were 3 teachers to 6 students. Really awesome. This is a nice, clean, well lit facility. If you are new to all this stuff, or looking to get a foot in the door, this is the place to go. We will definitely be back to try out the armory's variety of handguns. Also, my partner and I are female and queer and nobody treated us differently for it. Very much appreciated. read more

My experience this afternoon mirrored many of the reviews already present here. I had already fired rifles many many times, but never fired a handgun. I put 100 rounds through the 9mm I was using, and tightened up my clusters quite a bit by the end. I wanted to also add my vote that the staff was fantastic. Having never loaded live 9mm rounds before (i practiced the evening before with dummy rounds, just to learn the basic mechanics of the firearm itself), and never having handled a live loaded handgun, "Gabe" was very helpful. Since the range was empty except for me, Gabe was able to give me a 15-20 minute one-on-one "lesson." He was very helpful and generous with his time and tips. By the time I got through the first box of 50 rounds, I went back to the armory for another box. When I said "one more, please!", the armory officer had a big smile on his face, saying "that's what we like to hear!" Well done, folks. read more

Staff was outstanding. They were very helpful & friendly. We rented a range gun, eyes & ears. Bought 4 boxes of ammo and the price for everything was more than reasonable compared to other ranges in the area. All ranges need to be safe, and this one certainly is. Some ranges have RSOs that are over-the-top, but not here. These folks are professional and quick to get us in a lane. Ammo and targets are reasonably priced. Well run outfit. read more

I have been wanting to go shooting for a long time, as I had purchased a hand gun about 6 years ago and had not fired it in over 4 years. I had pretty much forgotten all there is to know about it since taking the first class many years ago. So I tried to gather a group of girlfriends to go as a fun girls night out. I chose Thursday night for $5 cereal entry. Only one friend was able to come. Oh well, we both needed the practice and not a lot of distraction. The armory guy was super friendly and patient and had a sense of humor. The range guy was big, intimidating, impatient and not very funny when he tried to be. My gun kept jamming so I went out and rented a Ruger .22. I loved it. I did way better with it than i was doing with my own .22 anyway. I need to buy a new gun. I'm planning to go back every couple of weeks to try other guns before deciding what to buy. The armory guy gives great suggestions and is super helpful. Average cost of a visit is about $20 if you are on cereal night and shooting .22 ammo. About $45 if you are on cereal night and shooting a 45. Ammo gets expensive and there are fewer in a box. Great time and very informative. I think I'll take a class too then get my CWP. read more

Who goes to the gun range with a hangover I do and if it was any other place I probely would have been sick but it turned out to be the best Hangover cure ever. I had hella fun blowing holes into paper sweet. The place is is emaculat and you can rent guns there. The staff is knowledgable and accommodating. Will go back when I'm in the area. read more

The facility is new and pretty much state of the art compared to other ranges I've been to. Great staff and decent range fees ($8 + a box of cereal on Thurs), $16 normally. So why the 3 stars? Having never picked up a handgun before I decided that I should go about it the right way and get some training. Spent the day here doing "Basic Handgun Skills PST 101" and had a great time. A long intense day from 9-6 with the morning spent in class and the afternoon shooting. What a blast! the instructor was highly trained, highly skilled and a great teacher. The facilities are great and the staff were helpful and understanding. Don't go off half cocked when you start shooting. Get proper training so you can enjoy yourself safely. I highly recommend this place and this training to everyone who wants to learn to shoot a handgun. Fun Fun Fun!!! read more

I went here with a handful of friends and assumed we'd be given the evil eye because we don't look like your average "gun enthusiast." But the guys working here were so awesome, friendly and super helpful! They took the time to show us how to load the gun and shoot. It was fairly cheap too. For 6 of us it came to $23 bucks each and we rented 3 guns and had 3 lanes. I think they might have given us a lane for free though. but all in all pretty cheap. The guys also told us there is a ladies night, so i'll definitely be coming back in my mini skirt and high heels. read more
