TPP is located in downtown and gets a mixture of locals, college folks and tourists. They have a good amount of TVs for the games. Friendly service, causal sports pub atmosphere with a cozy fireplace. Knowledgeable barmaid who allowed us to taste several craft beers before we decided. She also spoke foodology and fine arts as did some of the patrons! We stopped after a visit to The Clark museum. Enjoyed a pint and some wings and fried pickles. We definitely will be back to this establishment! The manager even came out to chat with us and told us about summer events in the parking lot such as oyster fest! The pub has a nice feel to it when you walk in. Poor food and service kill that vibe very quickly. Getting a table was pretty easy on the Friday night we stopped for dinner. What I got was a buffalo chicken sandwich. Seems she wrote the wrong order. We went here as we were passing through Williamstown. This place is a small town mostly based around a college. The staff and service was incredible and quite fast. To whom it may concern, My wife and I and son stopped by for a bite this evening. We frequently support your business, as we are locals here in Williamstown. Our server greeted us once we sat and had a great personality. But once we received our meals, he disappeared and passed by 20 plus times without even glancing at us. Actually he didn't appear until it was time to be paid! The table next to us had been visited numerous times as the server knew them. Our server seemed more interested in "spilling shots outside" and hanging out with his buddies than serving us. My wife's meal sat for 23 minutes because it wasn't served with a side of ranch or ranch inside it, as it was a chicken ranch panini! I had wings as well as two other appetizers and had no silverware or napkins. Thank goodness for the black cocktail napkins on the table. I had to go to the bar to get service. The woman who appeared to be the manager was extremely nice and got us what we needed. She was very apologetic. She even offered to get us drinks, but you can only imagine how upset we were, I wasn't staying for more! I assume she said something to our server, because minutes later he was very tentative and gave a BS story that something happened at his house that he needed to take care of. I'm sorry but I was sitting there watching him serve all his friends, hanging out at other tables and swearing at the bar. I too had been in the restaurant business for more than 15 years as a bartender, server and owner. I know when someone doesn't care. We said we'd be back, but I really don't see that happening. Nor will I recommend your business! Kudos for your manager. She gave a 10% discount and was awesome. She's a keeper! It was her actions that earned you two stars this evening. read more

I was in town for Homecoming as a Class of 1990 Williams alum. My wife and I went to the Purple Pub for nostalgic reasons. Our waitress, a brunette with a hair pin on the top of her head (our receipt said her name is Cindy W., so I will assume that this is her name) was generally unfriendly but not exactly rude to most of the customers. A young Black man sat at the bar and was ignored for about five minutes. He went to a different part of the bar, had no better luck, and returned to his original seat several minutes later. He finally got a drink from Cindy who told him the price of the drink. He said, "I can't pay later?" and was apparently told no because Cindy took cash from him. Meanwhile, Cindy asked me if I wanted to start a tab and had no problem doing so without even taking a credit card from me. Not long after this, I noticed the young man trying to wave down one of the wait staff. All of them ignored him. I saw one young waiter look at him waving at him and just move to a different area of the bar. After minutes of this, the young man tried to get Cindy's attention. She snapped at him, "Don't interrupt me while I'm serving this couple!" and went on to spend plenty of time getting this (white) couple drinks and food. She then went around the bar for several more minutes - not serving anyone - clearly a delay meant to punish this young man further. She then went over to him and asked, "Do you need anything?" It ends up that he wanted a menu, and she gave him one. Another period of time elapsed before she asked him what he wanted to order. Whatever he ordered was followed by this series of questions from Cindy, "How do you want that? How do you want that? How do you want that?" It was evident that English is this man's second language, and this was an apparent area of contempt on Cindy's part. Even his prior drink order was treated with a tone of voice dripping with contempt, "You just want juice? That's it? What do you want with that? Vodka? etc. etc." Was Cindy this rude to everyone? No. There were a couple of (white) guys, perhaps regulars, that got spectacular patience from her. As they perused the menu for a long time, she soothed them by saying, "Take your time!" My wife and I finished our first drink and left right away. I won't be back unless I hear that things have changed at this bar. And I hope if you read this and think this is not the way to treat people that you stay away too. read more

This is a pub, not really a restaurant, with a basic salad/sandwich/burger food menu, but that burger I had was really good. Big thick patty of meat, and the other ingredients fine. And when they said they'd put the mayo on the side, there was no trace of it at all, which is frankly what I preferred. And they were fast, too, even with a large party at a slow lunchtime, something which has been known to clog up kitchens terribly. read more

No one is going to mistake this place for a gourmet restaurant specializing in American cuisine. But it is a good restaurant/bar with decent pub fare. Took my family here which includes a Williams students. Both my kids ordered the black bean veggie burger with sliced avocado and I ordered the Holy Guacamole Panini... yes this family really likes avocados! All the food was devoured and enjoyed. The sandwiches all came with chips. My only gripe, the loss of a star, is the price but I guess this is the price of being a Williams hangout. The three sandwiches with no drinks was $55. We ordered our food to go but ended up eating it in their outdoor seating. Nice spot away from the street. read more

We are visiting colleges this week. Williams is our first stop in the Northeast after visiting schools in Chicago. We explored Spring street this evening. There were a few interesting places but we settled on this place because they served fish and chips. In addition to the fish and chips, we ordered the arrúgala, goat cheese and beet salad. The salad was good. A little heavy on the dressing but still tasty. The fish and chips batter was very dense and one piece was a little burnt. I wouldn't order the fish and chips again but I do recommend the salad. The salad is really big. The service was ok. read more

Good friend and I stopped in for lunch after visit to the Clark Museum. The Purple Pub is right on quaint Spring Street. It is set back from the sidewalk, sort of in a courtyard. There is outdoor seating area which is nice in the good weather. For lunch it's a nice pub menu with a good variety of choices at very reasonable prices. Service was pleasant and attentive. We had each ordered a glass of wine and salmon BLT, but the waitress misheard is and we were, instead, brought BLT burgers. We were famished and, while our waitress was very apologetic and offered to take them back and put in the correct order, we decided to keep what we had. The burgers were phenomenal! Very fresh and flavorful. Bonus, we we're comped our glasses of wine to make up for the mixup. That was wonderful. Too often, places fail to go that extra mile in the interest of goodwill. W had a very early dinner here. I would not visit again. The dining is limited in this town, but perhaps this is a better bar than restaurant. My daughter ordered a warm triple decker sandwich with fries. I ordered the burrata with tomatoes. (See pictures). The burrata had gone sour and I sadly found out with my first bite. They replaced the plate with a fresh burrata roll, and the chef came out, but the memory will always remain. The cheese was said to have been from a local farm. My daughters sandwich was overpressed and the fries were nothing to write home about. Good to have visited but likely will not return. They removed the charge so that was also kind. read more
