Cheeseburger with Sweet Potato Waffle Fries
Ashley B.

I love this place. It's a little getaway right in Crystal Lake. There is a small sandy beach that you can take your shoes off and relax on a nice lounge chair. They have beach volleyball and bags available. Lots of drink options, and surprisingly many food options. The burger is SO GOOD. The sweet potato waffle fries were a nice add and the sauce that comes with them is amazing. If you come here during the sunset and it's a clear day, you will not be disappointed!! TIP: bring your own water, they charge $2/bottle. *There is one thing I thought was weird. Some friends of mine were looking to do their wedding shower here but decided not to due to them still charging $5/person to park there (on top of the fee for renting out the space). My suggestion is that they stop this and let the guests park for free if they are there for an event!!*

This place is a hoot! There is a small beach, for sun bathing, no swimming or fishing allowed, but the 2 beginner and 1 advanced cable pulls for wake boarding are a blast. Myself and a few friends arrived on a cloudy Sunday afternoon and after 4 hours of fun agreed to return again for more fun. There is a kiosk where you can rent equipment for boarding and a fairly nice bathroom/shower for changing. Also available are eats; provided by either Duke's on the Water or Two Brothers. Both serve alcohol but you can NOT wake board and imbibe, for obvious reasons. I vote boarding!

Absolutely amazing. This place is on par with top tier Chicago dining scene. Tiny and mighty. The…read morefamily that owns it is beyond hospitable and accommodating. The food is made with love and executed with skill. Creative and inventive but not over the top where form trumps taste. Second time to this place and will return over and over. Fried pickle and avocado appetizer knocked my socks off. Served with two sauces (red/loosely based on 1000 island and green/not mint). Both pared perfectly with the course but brought out totally different notes. One highlighted and intensified the sourness of pickle and the other played on the creaminess of Avacado. Deserts are a must. Drinks are good but a little on the sweeter side. It's a hidden gem!

The aioli that came with them was a little sweet and spicy. The roasted poblano soup was really delicious with deep flavors. My entrée was the roasted mini pumpkin with foie grass and apples. It was very tasty although a tad sweet and for a few extra dollars it would have been nice to have two slices of foie gras. Another of us ordered the trout and it did not state it had a creamy sauce that was going to smother the dish...two others ordered beef or the mixed grill and it was way too rare and chewy - not high enough quality meat. Not sure I would return.

I'll try to be short, but want to give a true account of the events. Yesterday I came from the city via Metra late afternoon with another friend to visit a dear friend that moved to Cary a few years ago. Cary is far & we rarely see one another. Needless to say, we were super excited to for this mini-reunion & for our friend to show us a slice of Cary. It was not the best planning being St Paddy's weekend but so be it. We specifically looked for a place we could easily talk & catch up. We started w/ one chocolate martini at Cucina Rustica and chatted OVER an HOUR. Little did we know, we should have stayed there. Next stop, Cary RACIST Ale House. The back area lounge was nearly empty & we were assured it was open (not booked for any events). The waitress, at the start aggressively asked a bunch of questions. I first thought her line of questioning was bizarre so I ignored her while trying to figure out what to order. She asked how we got there, who was driving & specifically said she didn't feel comfortable in serving me. WTF?!?!? My friend politely answered her questions and when she left, we all agreed the waitress's behavior was odd & laughed it off. We refused to have her ruin our evening. To our SHOCK the waitress would NOT serve me?! Only me! Was I disruptive? NO! Was I being violent or doing something illegal? NO! Did I come in stumbling? NO! Was I slumped over passed out? NO! This was crazy! Check your security cameras if you don't believe! Was this a bad twilight zone episode? Was someone going to tell us this was all a joke? I was speechless. We asked her why. She said it was a management decision. What?! Interesting since no one came to talk to us aside from her. We asked her to explain, to get some understanding. You will NOT believe what she said....she said it was my eyes. I looked at my two white friends & asked if something was wrong with my eyes? No, nothing is wrong. WOW, she basically said my Asian eyes were an issue. Falsely claiming I was drunk and couldn't be served because she didn't like Asian-looking eyes?!?! I was stone cold sober ***hole! We were all completely sober & flabbergasted! Completely disgusted, we left. I thought about brushing this aside but I wouldn't want anyone else to be treated that way. I will not allow them to humiliate me. This was supposed to be a happy occasion, and it was spoiled by a bigoted, small-minded person. I don't know how these people can live with themselves.

If you wish to go to the main beach, that's an additional $12 if you are not a resident of Crystal Lake. The grounds are immaculate, very well maintained, and the bathrooms are clean. There are two lakes, multiple pavilions that you can rent ahead of time. Lots of picnic tables for you to sit down. Near the bar and grill while you can't go in the water, you can take your drink and sit on one of the cheers on the beach. You can watch people practice on their WaveRunner. Swing on the swings at the bar and listen to great music. I did not have any food here. I did have an amazing Mojito. The bartender was a young man looking to join the Barrington police force. Polite, kind and also had great customer service skills. The reason why I didn't give it five stars is that there are absolutely no markings anywhere as to what trail you are on, how long of a trail it is, and where there may be porta potties. There aren't any maps or QR codes and it was a bit confusing as I came upon several wise and the trail to decide which way to go as I had limited time there. Given the fact that everything is so nicely taken care of I don't know how they can't have at least some markings on the trails that they have there. One of the workers sent me direction and it literally just took me to a pavilion. They have kayaks, canoes, paddle boats and SUP boards. They also offer lessons for SUP depending on the day. Lots of people fishing. Amazing Place! Please add signage for the trails! The pop and water machine near the beach entrance did not work. Hopefully those are checked daily to repair.
