First time here and already in love. Everything in philly now is too large and run by live nation. I miss the quaint intimate setting this had going for it. And it sounds good. Not just loud. Again most places these days are just trying to blow your ear drums out. Here I could hear every instrument. Only $50 for 3 bands. Two headliners. I can't go to a show around here for less than $70 these days. Free parking on the street after 4 or 6. Bar tender gave us free cups of water at the end of the show. Super nice of him! My only criticism was the floor was very sticky. Then later it got slippery. If you wanna have punk and hardcore shows you better put some grip tape down. read more

Had a great experience at the queen this weekend. Was able to find free street parking within two blocks of the venue right before the show. Food and drink prices inside the venue were so cheap especially for a concert. Staff was friendly and helpful. Entry process was simple and efficient. read more

I attended a concert at The Queen March '25. I'm from NJ so opted to grab a hotel nearby and spend the night in Wilmington. I arrived at the concert fairly early - before the main crowd arrived. Security were very friendly and made sure patrons would be safe. I headed downstairs towards the merch area and grabbed a poster. After which I took the elevator up to the mezzanine area where I was provided a wristband for my reserved seating there. Let's talk about this upstairs: * full bar * multiple lounge areas to hang out in * bathrooms just outside * two areas to watch the show * general admission towards the top/read * reserved seating (very spacious in comfy couch type seats). I headed downstairs towards the end of the show and couldn't believe how packed it was! I definitely made the right call for my show oreference. Overall it the place is AWESOME with some cool history to it. The staff are extremely pleasant and friendly. Sightlines and sound were on point everywhere. To The Queen, I thank you for an excellent evening. I cannot wait to come back to my new favorite venue. read more

Awesome funky venue! We need to keep history and smaller venues alive and this place is a perfect example of how to do that. Sound was excellent for the show, good service and pretty reasonable prices at the bar. Expect fun drinks and a pretty limited menu of fried options for food (go out in the town for dinner!). When a band like the Dead Milkmen play a show I'm inclined to follow. So when I saw that they were playing a Friday show I found myself going to Delaware which led to me enjoying this somewhat hidden gem of a music venue! It feels kind of weird for Delaware to have a music venue at all, let alone one with the size and historical yet modern charm of the Queen. And for this reason, The Queen sees more cover bands, local flavor, and variety-type shows than actual touring acts. This is a shame because those bands that do play shows hear benefit from playing in a historic gem of an 1800's hotel that was converted into a huge classic movie theater before it was repurposed into a music venue with fantastic art and glorious acoustics in 2011. It's the perfect piece of culture to add on to a city with a growing restaurant and nightlife scene, yet there's something about it that just seems sadly underutilized. Interior wise I fell in love with elaborate art pieces and interior murals that used mixed media art to depict modern-day queens like Princess Diana, Michelle Obama, and more. I also enjoyed how accessible the huge back bar was to the many good spots in the building to watch the show from (honestly there wasn't really a single bad spot), and how it served cans of a beer that was brewed in honor of the venue. The only thing I really didn't enjoy was the placement of the merch table. With a huge sold-out show like the one we were at, you really need to have a designated and accessible spot to sell band merch. But, in this case the merch table was awkwardly placed in the corner of the main hallway which leads to the stairwell that goes to the venue's second bar and literally ALL OF THE RESTROOMS. So this created one of the worst concert human traffic jams that I've ever experienced in my 20+ years of going to shows. In the end, I saw an especially good show that has me wanting to experience more by grabbing a bite in their second smaller bar venue upstairs and reveling in their glorious balcony. Unless I cave and decide which classic rock cover band to see it looks like this might take a while to do. But it is an extraordinary venue that does provide good motivation for it! read more

Do NOT come here . I drove two hours to see a band here. And whoever runs things here literally had someone walk up on stage and pull the band off. I was dancing and enjoying myself everyone was. I am so confused how unprofessional and lame you have to be to kill a vibe and ruin the night at 9:50 pm. Why not let finish a song or finish set when the vibe was so good. They need new people running this place, they have 0 care if paying customers are enjoying themselves. Waste of my time and money, ruined my night. This place is ran by idiots that care about collecting $$ and not about customers RUN. read more

I really liked this venue. Plenty of free street parking after 6pm within minutes walking distance. Pretty safe area as far as I'm concerned. Sound was fantastic for all bands. Drinks were not severely overpriced and a solid selection for drafts or cocktails. Good sized bar right behind the sound board. Security was chill and folks working there were friendly. I was happy to attend an event at 'The Queen'! The last time I was here it was managed by 'World Cafe Live' and now it is a 'Live Nation' venue! The architecture is spectacular and I live the pics of Icons all around and the other lovely decor! The staff were friendly and helpful and the acoustics are fantastic! I attended the YELP Elite 'Bowie Live' Tribute Show! The band was good-singing and Music was tight! The crowd enjoyed the song selections and everyone appeared to be having a great time! My only issue is the costs of libations-cups of soda were $4 and alcohol was overpriced-but i know that sometimes comes with having a night out! read more

Big, BEAUTIFUL venue in Delaware. The decor is stunning and colorful. Great art, photos, lighting, chandeliers, etc! The place itself is very large and nice and spacious inside. We didn't feel overcrowded while watching 'Chillin' With Charlie.' Who were excellent btw! Since it's so large, the acoustics weren't the best - a bit bassy or something. Drinks and finger foods - available, but I can't rate bc I didn't partake. Norah Jones will be there in July, but the show is sold out. I'd absolutely go back!!! read more

The Queen is in fact a majestic and wonderful place in an nouveau trashy chic way. it's decor is Fred Sanford meets Liberace. This makes it unique and definitely exciting when you attend an event. I was fortunate enough to receive tickets free from Yelp to attend a show of the movie Fight Club. As an avid movie goer this is one I've never seen. This is the 20th anniversary of the film it was enjoyable especially seeing a young Brad Pitt. It was a different presentation of the film there was a cosplay contest it's was fun as well as the interactive crowd. When I arrived the staff was friendly and helpful. The entire venue was clean including the bathroom. There were games and prizes. What a fun place. I really like photos on the walls of various Queens and Queen-Esque people. read more

Big thank you to the Queen, Live Nation and Yelp for getting me and my plus one in for a movie night screening of Fight Club, it's twentieth anniversary. This theater has a special place in my heart. As an interior design student of the Delaware College of Art & Design right down the street we were given the Queen's floor plan for a design project right as it was being refurbished for World Cafe Live. Since then Live Nation has taken over and a few other things have changed since my last visit in 2014. You absolutely can not go inside and wait before they say so so know that. If you are early you will be outside. And you will be checked by security literally as if you were entering a government building. Once inside we checked in and to my surprise we were offered four complimentary tickets to two upcoming shows. The space was set up nicely with chairs, high tops even couches and dramatic mood lighting. They were also serving cotton candy and popcorn. I didn't indulge in either but did have a large beer from Stitch House Brewery (located down the street) that cost a whopping 14.00. Damn, that's like five Buds. The crowd was very into it. I would give this venue zero stars if I could. I'm originally from DC/NOVA where there are many great music venues. This was my first visit to the Queen and I am super unimpressed/disappointed. My friend wrote a Facebook review which summarize our experience there last Friday night: "VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! Last Friday my friends and I attended an event at the Queen where we were harassed for half of the show by drunks who thought it was funny to yell at us, kick our chairs, and pour drinks on our coats and chairs. When we made the staff aware of what was happening they did nothing and the bar kept serving them alcohol when they were beyond the point of intoxication. They were so drunk they continuously spilled their drinks on the floor while falling all over the place. I've loved this venue in the past but I don't recommend them if they can't handle belligerent drunks at events while serving alcohol. Just sad to feel like a venue didn't care enough to intervene when I'm sure if we would have took matters into our own hands, we would have been to blame." Many reviews about fights as well. I've been at the Queen for few events, but recently had the chance to check it out for a concert and had a great time. Parking was a challenge as Market Street is all street parking, but I figured we could just use the garage on the side street which I've never had an issue with before (and is indicated as The Queen Parking), but the garage was already full approximately 40 minutes before the show. We wound up parking several blocks away, near Rodney Square. Upon arrival at the venue, we were carded, wanded, and our bags were searched. Security felt adequate without being over the top. There was a long drink line at the first bar inside the doors, but there was a larger bar inside the venue with more staff and a quicker line. Mixed drinks ran $9-13, though most people opted for doubles because they were strong. They had about a dozen draft beers and ciders; I got a 24 oz draft Strongbow for $13. The venue itself is really neat --- high ceilings with vintagey portraits and chandeliers. The main area is general admission/standing room only, but there is a balcony that offered seating at this particular event. It can be difficult to see if you're vertically challenged as I am... we spent much of the night peeking around the heads of taller concert-goers. Admittedly, we did arrive relatively close to showtime and expected as much. The sound was decent; it was hard at times to understand what was being said into the microphones but the music sounded great. Overall, a really cool concert venue that's worth the experience at least once, even if it's just to try something new in Wilmington. read more

I'm giving The Queen five stars because the decor was so fun (love seeing my pop queens on the wall), the place (and bathrooms) were clean, and the staff was pretty friendly. I also went for the Fight Club event and I wasn't sure what to expect but it was cool! It's awesome that a venue can screen movies like this; they had a row of chairs out out on the floor and the movie was projected digitally. Not ideal viewing conditions if you're a movie snob but the room was set up for a fun night. I'll definitely look at the screenings they have coming up because it's rare that older movies are screened near West Chester. Crowd was kind of rowdy but that comes with the territory of the film. A great venue to host a screening of a movie with fans behind it! Also the staff was so nice but the girls at the ticket booth were both on their phones when I walked up and waited and that move was lame on their part. read more

VENUE/SERVICE: Pre-show: We arrived 20 minutes before the event and were told to wait outside in the rain. Literally it was only 4 of us standing there, not sure why the lobby wasn't an option. Waitress was nice. Bathrooms were clean. I asked for a straw, they said they don't give out straws. Breh... FOOD/DRINK: Um, just gonna be honest... Food tasted like it came out of the frozen section of Walmart with some basil sprinkled on top. Drinks...meh? DECOR: Small stage, plenty of space, bar in the back. Full body mirror in the bathroom. It's okay, but not flashy. EVENT: Some guidance on the schedule would have been helpful. We were under the impression that food and drinks would be served during the show. Showing up fashionably late was actually the right thing to do. I mean, all the other attendees arrived an hour late. Instead we were forced to drink then eat before everything started...bummer. Also we had no idea you were supposed to bring 1's to tip the performers...Embarrassing, but I'll take the L there and google next time. It felt more like a strip joint than an actual show. Very cool venue. Standing room only on first floor for general admission but the second floor had lounge seats. Not a bad view in the place. Drinks were about $11.00 a piece typical of a concert venue. VIP seating is extra however the prices are not set in stone and you can haggle the price. Great acoustics. read more

The Queen is a great venue to experience live music. The sound system is great, and the sound guys get it right, whether you're upstairs or downstairs. Ever since Live Nation took over the venue, the ticket prices have gone up due to TicketMaster's fees, which is why I'm taking a few stars off, perhaps unfairly. As a performer, it's sometimes hard to figure out who to talk to for certain things, which can be frustrating, and it certainly isn't the home base for the better local bands that it used to be. But I also understand businesses exist to make money, so I know they just did what they had to do. If you're attending to see a touring band, you'll have a good experience, though the drink prices are pretty steep. $10 for a small-ish plastic cup of red wine? Ouch. Anyway, parking is convenient, and the staff is very friendly. The backstage area is decent for performers, too. read more

Great venue. Parking is right next to the venue on 5th street for $5 (if you can't find street parking). Twenty bucks for two giant cans of beer, but that's to be expected for a Live Nation venue. Bathrooms for the guys were pretty impressive, but I was told the stales in the ladies room were a bit small. I took away a star for two reasons: the bass at times was so muddy, it had a distorted wobble effect anytime the bass player played a note below a low A; make sure you shift your weight from one foot to the other every three seconds or else you will be glued to the floor. I have never experienced such a sticky floor in my entire life. read more

The Queen is no longer owned by World Café Live, however it is a Live Nation venue. In my personal opinion, that means it's going to get some more mainstream acts. For you Philly folks, it looks like there's some similar artists as the Fillmore and TLA. The venue has the old, classic theater look. They do have large pictures of famous "royal-queen" artists such as P!nk and Beyoncé. It's a GA set up and front row is pretty close to the stage. The stage isn't crazy high. At least from the front row, the sound was top notch. If you are in the mood to be up high, the balcony looked like it was set to give you a good view. They have some interesting drafts. I was pleasantly surprised to have a Weyerbacher Dallas Sucks during my visit. There is a pricing difference between drafts and cans. They were selling Bell's Two Hearted for only $8! There is street parking outside of the venue- which is free after 6pm on the weekdays if you get lucky enough to find a spot. There's a lot nearby otherwise. There is a bar upstairs, but the set up during my visit was pretty barren. They had an outside caterer so I'm not sure if they normally have a caterer or food. They had 5 or 6 really generic (domestic) drafts, not enough bartenders and long lines of customers. There seemed to be a nice bar down the street that other folks were gravitating towards. Wilmington isn't far from Philly, so I would consider this a good venue if I wanted to see multiple shows on one tour or catch an act that wasn't stopping in any of the Philly spots. read more

This venue is fine - but our service at the Diva Drag brunch was terrible. The actual drag show was hilarious and fun and well put together, but our server was a space cadet (Another server from a different section actually took over for a while which was good) and forgot to get us drinks, get our food, etc. They need more servers during the Sunday brunches 3 or 4 was not enough for over 100 people. All is all, the venue was fine - and the ladies room was clean! We'll be back. read more

I'm not sure why this is showing as closed - I was just there last week. They did temporarily close during COVID but have been open again for awhile. I've been to two events, in two different spaces at this venue and both were a great time. The vibe was very different for both but both great. Stick to beer and skip the food - cocktails and food here are just eh. Great customer service, everyone who works here is so nice. Everyone at this venue was sooo nice, courteous and really made my time spent special, considering my now Fiancé proposed at dinner before coming to the queen and all the staff knew about our proposal via my Fiancé. We got tickets to come back to other shows which is appreciated. I am sad to say that the move to Live Nation has been a noticeable downgrade in my experiences here. In a sentence I would say that it has gone from being an intimate, cozy, venue to a corporate concert hall in a small space. I have been to 4 shows here since LiveNation took over and many more as XPN. The security is kind of a drag as you enter because everything is checked and you are wand-ed down but I can handle that in this day and age. But they also put a gate across the front of the stage to keep the usually tame audience 6 or 7 feet further from the stage, and it is typically staffed with security standing in between the stage and gate obstructing view (not kidding when I say that there was a guy around 6'5" who could barely stay awake behind the gate at Matthew Sweet). The good beers were $13 for a large plastic cup (maybe 20oz?)....a $13 beer in a plastic cup has got to be the most expensive draft in the state. And there is mass confusion at the bar about ordering food and how/when to pick it up (they took over 6 months ago and have neither a food partner nor any efficient system yet). The classic theatre feel has eroded away as there are huge gaudy mirrors with images of Pink, Katy Perry, and other pop acts......and a large section of the organ pipes has been covered. Also there used to be a bunch of high top tables in the back near the bar so you could stand and mix and set your drink down since the majority of the shows are not sold out - but not anymore. There are no high tops, chairs, or any place to conjugate. It is just an open barn no matter how small the crowd is. The tickets and the website are always unclear and misinformed about the show times. The tickets seem to always say 8pm even when the acts start much later, and there is generally no clear information about whether or not there is an opening act, so I go to the artists own website and get tour information there so that I can deduce what's going on when they play the Queen. And frankly there have been some good artists here and almost zero publicity - thus generating embarrassingly small crowds. Note to staff: you don't have the population you do in Philly where zero publicity will still drive the engaged fans to generate a decent crowd; even if the same percent of engaged fans in Wilmington show up it is going to be tiny. I am disappointed that the experience at the Queen has deteriorated, and I'm not sure it offsets the better acts. read more

This place was previously owned by World Cafe Live, but is now owned by Live Nation. There is a bar in the back of the main hall and then a large open space before the stage!! The Queen has recently taken on new life with new owners and it shows! Motionless in White and HBCU week both were a blast! Highly recommend an uber because the drinks are too good. The Main Hall isnt huge either so you always have a great view even when ordering drinks. Balcony has its own bar as well so the VIP's can REALLY stay in view of the show. read more

So before I write this review, I drove from Washington, DC to Delaware to see Ari Lennox perform and she sung so beautifully even after doing two shows back to back. The show was supposed to start at 8, but the host did a lot of stalling and the first artist didn't come out until 9:00p -and Ari Lennox didn't show up until 10:45p. When I purchased my tickets, I paid for the balcony seating which cost an extra $40.00. The view was perfect and it is so beautiful in the inside, but the tickets that I paid extra for was supposed to include a server, but no one ever came to serve us. Eventually, the nice bartender that working in the balcony area made sure we had a server. It could of been a better experience. read more

The Queen is a five-star live music venue. I sub for a band called StrangeLove a Depeche Mode tribute band from Los Angeles. They asked me to play two shows for them back East one in Brooklyn New York and one in Wilmington Delaware. I flew from LA to NY knowing what to expect. First view of Wilmington I expected nothing than a small mid grade club. The Queen is a top-notch concert venue. The ambience alone will get you. I think the building was built in 1789. It looks like an old Vaudeville theater. The backstage area, the green rooms for the bands, the top notch equipment and PA system, the light show, the bar, the crew are spot on. This place is so big they had two events going on one upstairs and us in the main room where Strangelove and a Smiths tribute band played. If I can make one recommendation next time The Queen books two different events on two different floors maybe theme both floors to have the same music so you could bleed each of the audiences together. Nick, Evan and the boys we're so awesome to work with!! Very polite and very knowledgeable very Hands-On with making sure that the band was happy and the sound and light show was Grade A quality. I wish i could remember the light guy's name and the dude that ran the monitor mix. Those guys were badass to work with. This Crew made sure everything worked like clockwork and that no one was late and everyone was prepared. Never rushed. Phenomenal job from the in-house crew. Yes the drinks were expensive. I had a few friends that showed up from New York and Baltimore and they said the drink prices were pretty steep. But hey I guess the venue has to make money somehow right? They might need to buy a few more mics. Apparently the guy doing sound upstairs kept taking all the good mics from us downstairs. I don't know what his problem was but we had the bigger show you know? Lol so we are almost at Max Capacity one hell of a show. At the end of the night Nick's crew stuck around and helped us load the van. Seriously the greatest in-house crew ever. Cant say enough about them. I hope to work with them again. So if you see a show you want to go to and it's at the queen in Wilmington Delaware trust me when I say you will be pleasantly surprised and impressed. Five star rating all the way read more

This past Sunday my 4 other family members and I bought tickets to your diva brunch in celebration of my cousins birthday. We arrived at 12:40 to be denied entry into the venue due to "over selling of walk in tickets". After waiting until 1:30 for someone to make room for us, we were told that they couldn't accommodate us and to leave. The front door person scanned our tickets and essentially stole our money. When we confronted the front desk for a refund he told us too bad. I am disgusted by this whole experience and hope it doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

The new Queen is sadly a dim reminder of the splendor once offered. Our visit last night started with a TSA level pat down and security check. Note: leave even your pen knife at home. Once finally inside and downstairs at the bar be sure to remind the bartender to give you a napkin, it's not an automatic. Another tip, dress as if you would be outside. Everyone at our table was freezing the entire night. I really miss the old sound system and mixers. The new system is high school gymnasium quality with in enthusiastic technicians. The local Wilmington paper raved about the new decor. I found it as warm and appealing as a NYC subway restroom. The mirrors are adorned with images of the Queens of the stage but was it really necessary to put David Bowie on one? Hell, Freddy Mercury, now that was a queen. The food used to be passable. Now it's just WTF. As an example, boardwalk fries were just plain fries in a cup with a hint if Old Bay. No vinegar was offered and no salt to be had. To sum it up. Unfriendly staff, sterile decor, low temperature, bad food and crappy sound. read more

A nice, small, intimate venue with a good view no matter where you choose to sit/stand. Parking is located right around the corner, making it very convenient with reasonable rates. The staff was very nice and were able answer all the questions we had. The only reason I am not giving this review 5/5 is because the bar prices were terrible! I ordered a mixed drink and my husband got a captain/coke and it came to $27!! The frozen drink I got was a concoction of strawberry and coconut that tasted more like they just forgot to clean out the blender between uses, very thick and viscous. Other than the drinks, the venue was clean and very charming. I would definitely come back here for other events, but not just bother ordering drinks. And for the others who complain about the pat downs to get in, you have to understand that it is not a Venue rule, it is required by ALL livenation events now. I recently attended my first drag brunch at the Queen. It was pretty entertaining. Nailed the entertainment but I'd give a big thumb down on the food. The waffles were to hard to cut and I literally had to use force. The home fries were undercooked and tasteless, but I ate those drowning in Ketchup. I wondering if the food was made the night prior. The drinks are way overpriced!! This isn't NYC. I'll give it another try, but I will be vocal if the food isn't up to par. read more

The venue is cute inside and out. It's not glamorous, but it got the job done and I was comfortable during the entire concert. The seats were cushy, the AC worked, the sound was terrific. I was sitting in the front row, and my eardrums were not hurting, and the words sounded super crisp. Perfect. What I don't like is that the prices for shots, and basic cocktails aren't listed anywhere. Only beer prices are listed. I'm not accusing them of theft, or the bartended of inappropriate action, but when I go to a bar I love to see the prices listed to make sure I'm being charged correctly. Also, heads up if you show up early to an event there. They won't let you use the restroom until the venue opens. I drove from Long Island, and I had to really go. Denied. I was sent to the bar across the street, where the bartender let me use the bathroom after rolling his eyes at me. Ugh. There's plenty of street parking in the area, so that was not an issue.
