Okay... judge me! Yes, this is ANOTHER review of one of the best speakeasies in Delaware. Service is spectacular and servers are well knowledgeable about their spirits and food. Shoutout to Christian! We went with a bigger party this time - total of 6. Would highly recommend reservations. Parking can be challenging but worth the work. You will ring a bell next to a discreet door where someone will assist you. You are greeted and walked up a very long staircase to the actual speakeasy. There's a bar, seating areas, and lounge areas as well. There's also live music. Check their socials. We ordered lots of drinks - 12 total. Every single one was absolutely delicious. Doesn't matter what you order. They do have seasonal cocktails too. You can't go wrong. Food! Okay, just order one of everything. We got meatballs (highly recommend), tuna, pizzas (shareable size). Whoa, you have to visit this charming speakeasy. I was in Delaware for my best friend's birthday and we had an epic itinerary for the day that ended at Hummingbird to Mars. We were a group of four on a Saturday night. They offer both cocktails and food here. Any drink can be made into a mocktail which is nice. Our server was incredibly kind and passionate about mixology. He gave us a rundown of the menu along with recommendations. We were at the end of their summer specials menu. Our birthday girl fell in love with one of the drinks on it. We all loved our drinks. I was craving something cucumbery (had Pimms cup on my mind from other bar we went to) and the slight return cocktail was perfect for me. The cucumber flavor was really strong, which was exactly what I was looking for. The birthday girl's husband adored his tiki drink, excursions, that had an interactive element to it. And her other friend got a really nice lavender cocktail called A Walk in the Garden. I highly recommend coming to this cool speakeasy. It's great for groups, there is a lot of seating. Cool spot, found out about it on Yelp. This spot isn't crazy advertised, and unless you know about it, you'd have no reason to walk down this alleyway. Visited on a Thursday evening, and wasn't really sure what to expect. Very nondescript entrance, steel door on a block wall, simply marked with a hummingbird-I didn't tell my guest where we were going and she was a little apprehensive until we got upstairs. Ring the bell and the host will ask you what size party and greet you by answering the door. You will be led into the restaurant up a candlelit set of stairs and enter the seating area-Bar seats maybe eight. We ordered a couple of drinks and a few apps, and dined while live music was being played-Massimo Brutto played/sang mostly standards from the 40s and 50s-really good vibe. This is one of those spots that isn't for everyone but for those that are into the Speakeasy vibe you will love it from the moment you ring the bell. Make reservations especially if you want an early dinner and to be seated by the time live music starts at 9. I've known about this place for years but just patronized for the first time last month. I sat at the bar the first time thankfully I was able to get a seat there arriving about 930 pm. The 2nd time we arrived about 830 pm without a reservation and there was a 45 minute wait, we went somewhere near by until getting the text for our table. For last night, I emailed around 2 pm to reserve a table at 8 pm but was told needed to do 830 pm. We arrived rang the bell confirmed we had a reservation and was promptly seated. The street tacos with shrimp are a hearty appetizer especially if you aren't sharing. They certainly have authentic taco flavor. Honestly there isn't anything that I have not enjoyed here. This isn't the place to come if you are looking to have many cocktails as these cocktails are truly crafted and it takes time to make. Cute spot above Rooney's in Trolley. You're able to make reservations by emailing them. When we first arrived, we were very excited. The space is cozy and has an old time vibe. They have live music on the weekends. The food was pretty good - bar food. Unfortunately, the service with the drinks was horrible. There were around 6 tables in the entire place and it took 25 minutes to get our first round of drinks. After we finished those, we ordered another round and timed it, it took 37 minutes the second time. We understood that they are craft cocktails and take time but when you're paying $19-$22 for a drink, waiting for over 30 minutes is not the best experience. I've always had a great experience at this speakeasy! From the moment you step into the place to when you leave, it's a real vibe! I really love the live music on weekends. 2 of my friends have birthdays within 2 days of each other so they planned for a group of us to get cocktails here to celebrate. Due to our party size, my friend made a reservation ahead of time but my understanding is that you may not need them if you have a smaller sized party or its after a certain time. We went into the Irish Pub below at first and the host let us know where to find the door. It was pretty cool to see the bird with the hummingbird on it and ringing the doorbell for admission. The vibe is like a cozy Victorian parlor. It's dark furniture, dim lighting but (at least our table) was couches with pillows. Very small table for the group sitting area so even if you just get drinks, it can be a little cramped, and then if you get food, you have to get creative with putting your drinks on the smaller shelf under the table. The drink menu is extensive. If you are into mixology, I think you would appreciate the options and the details in drinks. For food we got truffle fries, cheesesteak eggrolls and the hummus platter. Everything tasted great, but as some other reviews mention, the food is the same that you can get in the pub below, so you are really coming here for drinks and atmosphere. Really cute spot. It might be the only speakeasy I've ever been to but it's still the best. I felt transported back to prohibition when I walked inside. The bar is stunning, as is the rest of the space. I was with a large party and we were sat in the front room. We were on comfy corner seats around a center low table. It was a good setup for appetizers and drinks. I was only able to stay for a little while, so I had one cocktail. I went with the zombie and it very much delivered on the name. It was delicious. The menu and cocktail list are both outstanding. We tried the hummus, truffle fries and cheesesteak egg rolls. The truffle fries were AMAZING. I will absolutely order those again when I go back. I found this speakeasy on phl date night! I surprised my husband with reservations here. We loved the ambiance although it didn't seem as authentic as some of the other speakeasies we've visited in the past. Unfortunately, we ate prior to coming. The food looked and smelled amazing. Our server was amazing and offered so many great suggestions. My husband said it was the best old fashioned he's ever had. The bartender created a orange ginger martini at my request. This is a real hidden gem. It reminds me of 1 Tippling Place in Philly, but is slightly larger. Ring the bell and someone will answer the door and take you upstairs to the bar. I came here on a Friday around 6pm- there were no other customers. Seating is nice- you have a choice of the bar, sofas, chairs, or tables. Lighting is dim. I ordered a seasonal cocktail- A New Kind of Rum Love. It was fantastic. It was made in a way cocktails should be made- using the perfect amount of ingredients, and not filling the drink up with sugary syrup or soda. We came across this place late one evening. It wasn't very busy, so it was a nice place to have a quiet drink. The drinks were amazing and they really pay attention to detail and flavor. I highly recommend this place. I heard they do live music on Friday and Saturday nights so looking forward to going one of those evenings and listening. 1st time in Trolley Square the GF and friends head over to this "bar" and I tag along. This is a "speakeasy" guys so very easy hard to miss. If I did not have people to follow, I would probably not have known this place even existed. Apparently Hummingbird is a Cat Rooney Chain of Bars. BE SURE TO CHECK their instagram/twitter/facebook or whatever to see whether there is a "SECRET PASSWORD" you can tell the server for an additional DISCOUNT on drinks. Atmosphere: Come into this place, and there is live music playing. Most people are dressed in buttonup shirts with a few people having blazers, but our group came schlepping in, in T shirts. VERY DIM. SO DIM I couldn't see menu properly. Maybe it was because it took time for my eyes to adjust. But definitely had trouble reading the menu. Since our group was pretty large (7 people), we were led to the booths on the other side of the bathrooms. They have tables for the smaller groups, booths for the larger groups, and a bar area where the live music was playing. Drink Selection: The best Macallan they had was a Macallan 12 (12$ a pour). Maybe they could get a bottle of 18? Don't get me wrong the 12 is still good, but from the price to quality perspective I think 18 is where most people want to be. Apparently they also have a rotating seasonal menu of drinks as well, which the GF and friends found pretty good. Service: Service pretty good. the servers came to check on us at appropriate times and did not disrupt conversations that were flowing (I hate it when servers come too often and it conversations are disrupted). One thing of note though. CHECK THE GLASS they are pouring drinks in. GF's friends ordered an old fashioned and the glass that it came in was cracked. Since it was so dim he didn't really realized it until he cut his lip and thumb on the glass. Had a wonderful time tonight with a group of 5. Dom was our server and was very attentive. He was also the bartender and it seemed that he was serving our entire section as well. Some colleagues and I buzzed the intercom and provided our party's count to a mysterious voice on the other end. We were then escorted up dimly lit stairs and past an older gentleman leaning into a large, heavy guitar. I adored this place the second I saw the black door with the golden hummingbird stenciled on. I love how you ring the doorbell and they ask how many. Shortly there after a girl in a short red dress and black knee high stockings opens the door and guides you up dark candlelit staircase and into a different world. I don't really know how to explain it but if you've ever wondered what it would be like to hang out at a speakeasy in the 1920s or you just love fantasy, or the idea of time travel, or steam punk, or really well crafted drinks w/ top shelf liquor and unique fruit infusions - then this is your place. In terms of drinks I had the monkey gland and loved it. My friend had the Side Car and barely had 2 sips before she was knocked on her butt. This place embodies what a true speakeasy is all about; exclusive feel with the hidden entrance, a sh oh trust but narrow stairway up to a bar/lounge area stratigraphy out of a Gatsby party! The mixologist are often seen making awesome drinks worthy of a Ultra lounge at an affordable price. Bar is small and seating might be limited. Pre Covid the used to have live music and you could spend hours in there. They do have food on d options as well. Great for an after date drink or hangin out with the guys/girls. read more

This is an excellent joint in Wilmington, DE. It is a speakeasy - not at par with Philly's Laundromat but pretty good as far as Delaware is concerned. From a speakeasy point of view, this one takes cards so you can leave the cash at home. Its proximity to home makes it a pretty good contender for a fun night out. The entrance is easy to miss - like all speakeasies - its a solid black door with a bell next to it. They ask the number of people in the party over the door intercom. Once they have your table ready, they will come fetch you. The main seating area is one flight of stairs above. The stairs open up into a bar area which has seating for musicians and seating area on the left and right. They usually have live music playing - i have been here twice and seen live music both times. They have very good drinks - i have had the sidecar, penicillin, and then some more seasonal ones. I liked all of them and I will be back for more. They have good fries and nachose with the full menu being replaced by a much smaller one after around 10-10:30pm. Went here for the first time a couple weeks ago (to be candid, I did not know this place existed until recently, and I have lived in or around Trolley Square for almost two years - it's like Platform 9 and 3/4, only known to a few who pass it on the street daily). I love the concept of a speakeasy, but maybe that's just the historian in me. The decor in the dining room is not quite period appropriate, but the dim lighting and old wooden furniture give you that Prohibition Era feeling nevertheless.
