Super inclusive and welcoming environment. I don't love going to bars but I genuinely love coming here. The music on their asylum nights is always so good and everyone is so friendly. Everyone is just vibing and it feels like a real judgement free safe space. Bar XIII is also definitely is a queer friendly space and that's really hard to find in the bar scene. Their food truck outside is also reasonably priced and is kinda just what you need during a night of drinking. I also never leave without playing the rubber duck claw machine at-least once. read more

A hole in the wall dive bar with an incredible little room for live music. Bartender was super nice. Decent tap list with many can options too. Surprised to see one can of 5.5% IPA from the Veil cost $12. Yikes. Taps were $7 or $8. The type of place where you can truly be yourself and accepted by everyone in the place. Freakin' love this place!!! It's just a cool spot. Everyone is welcome. The vibe is great. The music and atmosphere are *muah*. So many cuties too ;) Never had a bad time. This is by far the best bar in town. Probably one of the best in Delaware, if not the best. For a rad dive bar this dope you usually gotta go to Philly. But this place rocks so hard that I don't gotta go that far. It's awesome that a place like this exists here. All the events they do are amazing. I wouldn't change a thing about this place. I love this place. I'm introverted and I'm not into most bars but get a few drinks in me and this is a fun place to get loose. I'm usually a little stone'd too lol. And that progress Pride flag out front is what allies do. It's not an LGBTQ+ bar per se, they just welcome people like me there. We coexist and party together. They like people like me too. I do good there yo fr lol. This place got lots of fun stuff goin on. It's eclectic. It's left of center. It's accepting and full of open minded people. Drinks here seem expensive as one other poster wrote. I paid $9 for some orange crush vodka can but I loved it and so did my friends. So maybe it was classy enough stuff. I get charged nearly the same in Philly but sometimes it isn't great or the bartender doesn't understand what I really like. Staff here is friendly. Only thing I didnt like it no on-site kitchen to order food. Had to use the app and pick up or deliver. So, we could pick-up, eat it outside , then go back in? Lol. Why wasn't Mr Pasta across the street open? These two places could build a relationship and help each other out Although with a name like Mr Pasta, it honestly seems kinda tacky for Bar XIII. So, what Is a "Philadelphian"'doing at Bar XIII you might say? Skeletor Karaoke Gong Show of course. If you went to Trocadero events when it existed, you would know. If you are a goofball who likes to make themselves a fool while they sing or you just want to check it out, worth doing at least once. The crowd here on this day was very respectful but one guy gave me a hand fist greeting as we both had previously performed. It was mostly people probably 30s and up. The acoustics are weird to me and probably made for a heavy metal or hard rock show. When I was singing my first song, I couldn't hear myself sing but apparently I sounded good and awful enough to do the song just like on the radio. I did a "retro" classic- Mr Jones by Counting Crows and then an added filler of Round Here was added to the mix Whoever the host is, he has the humor art down to a tee and knows his music. well. It was funny how he was making fun of Harry Styles Strawberry lemonade song for randomly coming out during such am awkward period in the world. sure maybe not every joke he makes is that funny as a few people didn't like that we brought up inferring more covid, but at least he didn't push it beyond that. No one laughed from what I could tell but most were just kind of neutral about it all including me. I almost wonder if Skeletor "knows" me as I have maybe seen him online in a more personal context but it could be coincidence as other people could dress up as him. read more

I always feel safe and part of a family community at this bar. And they even have a food truck there every day of the week for food! Definitely the best place to go. Bar XIII had recently reopened as Delaware has lifted some restrictions on the operations of restaurants. As a frequent patron prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, I was excited that the bar was able to open again. Bar XIII has done an excellent job at setting expectations for the precautions they are taking to comply with CDC guidelines for social distancing as well as Delaware laws for restaurants. The facility is as clean as ever. There are cleaning materials and hand sanitizer in several locations. From a COVID safety perspective, Bar XIII has you covered. The bartenders were as friendly and accommodating as can be. The owner was on hand to welcome people back and answer any questions. To be honest, the drinks were even better than I remember, the music was loud, and it was so great to be out and see happy faces. The food is open so patrons can eat and drink until fairly late. Tables are distanced far enough that I cannot hear the people next to me, and I feel very comfortable in the more relaxed atmosphere. The venue has been open again for about a week and they have their roles down in this new operating model. I hope people will come out and see that there are safe ways to socialize as the local economy starts to open again. Bar XIII has taken every necessary precaution to keep their patrons safe while still having fun. I highly suggest calling for a reservation and paying them a visit in the near future. read more

One of my absolute favorite music venues ever. Great staff, great drink specials, clean bathrooms and free parking. A nice amount of seating throughout the place. The crowd itself is very welcoming. You don't feel like an outsider. Matthew runs a great place with a different them every single night. He brings in great touring and local bands and keeps prices very low. Drinks were expensive and the place was disgusting. There was a big stain that looked like dried vomit on the pool table. The staff was rude and did nothing to stop someone from going on a loud and angry tirade. I felt safer when I was deployed to a war zone. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

I don't really go to bars or drink that often but hubby kept talking about this band he wanted to see so I got tickets for us. It was a Saturday night the band was to start around 9:00 we got there around 8:30. They weren't busy yet. The guy at the door very friendly and was talking and giving us postcards with upcoming events. I don't drink beer, wine or drinks with soda and unfortunately there are few drinks I like. I first ask if they do frozen drinks which I kind of already figured they didn't because most bars like this don't but figured I try. So I always go for White Russian first bar I have been to that doesn't serve White Russians. But I will say the bartender was so nice and patient with me making suggestions so finally got a drink with vodka and cranberry juice. I can't remember the name of it but it was very good. I had two of them. The band was really good but they started about 45 minutes late. The room the band plays in is standing room only. If you want to sit down you have to go to the bar area. And there is a cute little lounge area in the back to hang out in. This is a nice friendly neighborhood bar. I can see why a lot of people go here. They do have a lot of events I would be interested in going to but most are on a Sunday night at 8:00 which is to late for me because Monday morning comes to early. I really want to go to the midget wrestling hope they have one on a Friday or Saturday night. read more

I really enjoy coming here to dance the night away. Friendly bartenders, the lounge is a nice place to tale a break and have a drink. There are always interesting live events, everything from burlesque to country, metal to mini-con game nights. It was recently pleasantly surprised having a reunion of sorts here at bar 13 on Philadelphia Pike in Claymont. I found the staff and the bartendresses very capable and friendly plus they had free ice water stations at 4 corners of the bar. Anybody that does that on a hot night is alright with me. We went there for a specific event which was held in their very ample sized dance/ concert room.
