We were having a rough night. Came across this place by accident. Apparently they were having a rough night too. Their air conditioning was broken and the menu was limited as a result. So why 5 stars? The owner. He had us laughing so hard and the food was terrific. Eggplant parm with penne, boneless wings, and burgers were all great. Honestly there is nothing like a good laugh. We had a late lunch. Fries were crispy and hot. Soup was delicious (pasta fagioli). We needed special treatment for one meal (blender) and were delighted with our waiter. He was attentive and kind. We ordered onion rings and the chef made them fresh for us! We will come back!! read more

Went to the railyard tonight it was the most amazing seafood I've ever had. and the staff was so accommodating.

This place is now under new ownership and has recently reopened. We ordered pizza, chicken and fries for dinner. Even though they are still in the process of renovating, I was able to pick up my order. I was greeted by the owner and the chef who I previously know from Milo's deli. Both great guys serving great food. Cannot wait for this place to be fully open to spend some time on that outdoor patio! read more

I went in after a hard day at work to socialize and have a refreshment. I approached the bar tender and asked for a beer and he said I can't serve you. I asked why and he walked away. . I was confused cause I had a wonderful time the week before. So I went to the store and bought a a shot for I could at least socialize with everyone at the bar. When I pulled it out and drank it, I was approached by a employee and asked To leave for having a drink not from there. I said if you just served me a beer I wouldn't have to go buy one. The Rail Yard is my favorite restaurant in Gloversville. The prices are fair, the portions are ample, and everyone there from the waitstaff up through Donny the owner are a class act. Hell, they even have ice in the urinal in the men's room. Oh yes, and Saranac Imperial IPA on draft. If you're never had it, be sure to try it. Try it a couple times and then you can check out the urinal ice. There's usually a sports page taped up above it, so you won't be bored while there. It's those small things, and the really cool and historic train decor and turn of the century maps that make this place stand out. If restaurants were lovers, I'd totally date the Rail Yard. She's classy enough to bring the parents or a business associate you're looking to impress, but down-to-earth enough to be a great place to visit for lunch on a random day. In fact, the main reason you'll never reservations on a busy night is because the Rail Yard is just that good. It's worth the wait. As long as the Rail Yard is in business, there's no reason to ever have to resort to a chain casual dining establishment. read more

I have to give the Railyard some props because you cannot beat a restaurant that brings a tray of desserts to your table for selection and smack dab in the center, I always find my favorite dessert ever...LAVA CAKE! The food is pretty good. I usually get something simple like an open steak sandwich, gotta save room for dessert. During warmer weather, it is really nice to eat on the patio but eating inside is nice too as long as the crowd at the bar does not get too loud or rowdy. I have never had a bad experience there except for the few times I tried to go and they were closed. Aside from the hours (I am not sure what they are), I don't have any complaints. The menu ranges from affordable sandwiches to heartier entrees which are a little heavier on the tummy and the wallet. I tend to find their drink specials tempting though I have yet to try any, or have I and I just cannot remember that night? No, I am pretty sure I would remember it...unless we are talking about the old days at the Caboose next door. read more

Been up in Johnstown area for work last two weeks, finally found a great place to eat the night before going home :( This place is a serious business restaurant. Great American bistro style, good small menu with dishes down right. Big portions, great flavor profiles. Has the steak/shrimp scampi combo with roasted veg. Just fantastic. Steak was slightly overdone, but not badly enough to complain about. Buddy had a burger and fries and they looked great too. Only regret is not trying this place out two weeks ago...would have are here every day! read more

OK, what just happened? We just enjoyed a wonderful and completely unexpected meal tonight at The Rail Yard. Backstory: We are driving west on the Turnpike and wanted to get off the beaten path to spend the night and grab a bite. So, we pulled up Yelp to see what we could find. He stumbled upon this place because it had a 5-star rating. With only 5 reviews at the time, we were skeptical... But there wasn't a lot to choose from in the area, so we stopped in. OK, to the food. We were starving, so we ordered Wings for an app. WOW!!! OMG, these are literally the best wings that we have ever had (which are many). We ordered Medium flavor, simply hoping for something edible. I'm not a chef, so I don't know what flavor the chef used, but it was original, unique, and delicious - and obviously homemade! The wings themselves were fresh, not frozen, and they just melted in our mouths. The blue cheese dip was clearly homemade as well, and was delicious and a wonderful compliment to the wing sauce. For entrees we had a Rodeo Burger and Haddock Sandwich. Both were very good. The burger had an onion ring on it that was delicious and really knocked the socks off the burger. The Haddock had a homemade tartar sauce that was the star of the sandwich. Both buns were toasted with skill and care, and the fries were very good as well. Clearly the chef is a master with sauces, as each made the meal something special. We also had a very nice conversation with the waitress, Erin. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did! read more

We decided to check this place out after reading some great reviews on Yelp. The 4 of us ordered wings, potato skins, and stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer, then my husband and I split one of the chicken dishes while our sons each had a burger. The wings were good, until my husband bit into an undercooked one. The stuffed mushroom was okay, my older son enjoyed it. The potato skins were overcooked, but edible. Dinner on the other hand ... the chicken was covered in some kind of sauce, which I suspect was to disguise the fact that the chicken patty had been frozen and then thrown in the microwave to cook. Tough and stringy with no taste to anything except the sauce that covered it. Both of us took a bite and couldn't eat more of it. The burgers were okay, although one came topped with mayo, which wasn't listed on the menu. The fries were crisp, but tasted of the grease they had been cooked in. Needless to say, none of us ate much dinner. Not a restaurant we'll visit again. read more

I came here for dinner and wasnt too happy at all. I wouldnt eat here again. The place is small and tries to carry the theme of a train. Inside is small and to access the inside seating there is these weird doors like stepping into a western saloon to get through. If you are eating here hopefully sit outside. You wont have to be bothered with the lack luster interior. When we sat outside we were told the name of our waitress but ended up being tagteamed with on other waitress not on training. The salad is small dont bother ordering for 3 dollars I can get a full bag of premaid salad at walmart. Waist of money. I ordered the jalapeno burger and it was just dripping of juices and I ordered it medium well. And the cajun fries I got all the leftovers so the small little bits I couldnt really get the flavor of the fries. My mother got the fried haddok and she asked them if she could get a bun to put some of it on because it was huge (only positive of this place) but then reminded her that she had the special and it doesnt come with any buns instead of offering to get it. My burger was a little tasty but its difficult to mess up a burger though I could of gotten a better value at wendy's on the dollar menu honestly please save you money and dont go here. read more

Wow, what a restaurant. We had twenty people that had a variety of entrees, and all stated they were great!!! A must place to eat!!!

This is hands down the greatest meal I have had in years. The chef has created some very unique food combinations, putting spins on traditional Italian and american dishes.. I was very impressed with everything. Its a mom and pop joint, so dont expect to be blown away with the decor- hey but we don't eat the s**t on the walls, right?. It's subtle, dim, slightly romantic and intimate. I will be back for a long time to come. read more

I went to the Railyard last night with some friends. The drinks were very good! We ordered the bacon wrapped scallops and fresh mozzarella sticks for appetizers. The dipping sauce for the scallops was sweet and mysterious, but so good! I ordered the Dressed Haddock with rice pilaf and sautéed veggies. It was absolutely, hands down, the best fish dish I have ever had! The flavor was off the charts amazing! Kudos to the chef because the lobster sauce was equally impressive! My wife had the panko crusted haddock, she too was very pleased! I will be back again soon and I will be spreading the word in the meantime! All around great visit! read more
