I have held 2 private events this year at the RC and would highly recommend booking with them! Sasha Montalvo (the events coordinator i have worked with both times) is thorough, helpful, and very responsive. We have used the RC for two client appreciation/business development events and not only do we love it, our clients do too! The food is always great (a highlight is the appetizer bacon wrapped dates), the drinks are tasty and the bartenders are pleasant, and as an organizer I think the spaces are beautiful and perfectly decorated. I visited as a reciprocal member from Vancouver Club and was pleasantly surprised. I sat in the Beller Bar by myself and met a few friendly people. One member offered to give us a tour of the building. The building is gorgeous, and I love the enormous fireplace!! I have pretty high expectations of food being from Vancouver, but at least the food here was extremely affordable!! I also love the concept of the community table with a sign to explain it's for meeting new friends. read more

This tired aging gracious brick oasis survives amidst the sterile glistening glass skyscrapers of stockbrokers and nearby unhinged zombies of the Seattle people's republic. It's members only, but isn't snooty or pretentious. They hire kind and professional uniformed staffers who go beyond the call of duty. Sit over tasty potstickers and French champagne perhaps at the grand upstairs bar late afternoon looking out at the grey rain - but avoid the (dprk airline tasting) beef and broccoli bowl and the $2 well burnt nuts. The food prices are kept wonderfully low. Clubs do want members to actually hangout. The club is an absolute haven and perfect for business lunches, cocktail hours, and weddings (a fireplace so big even NBA players could walk in), and to just get lost in thought in spacious quiet elegance in a place great-great-grandfathers lit cigars. read more

This places is a blend of the past and the present. Large meeting rooms to have events, with decor from the past. A work out room with new equipment. My husband and I could not be more delighted with our August wedding at the Rainier Club. The Club provided a timeless, elegant setting with beautifully appointed spaces for cocktail hour and our wedding festivities, each room featuring curated art from the Club's collection. The Heritage Room is a stunning dining room with tall-ceilinged grandeur, wonderful natural lighting and gorgeous chandeliers. Kristan Sanchez and the Rainier Club staff were thoughtful, professional, going above and beyond for our wedding guests. We enjoyed our wedding meals and staff was very accommodating of our party's dietary requests, including a lovely house cocktail and surprise reception snacks for the occasion. Absolutely beautiful space with a history. I've been a few times to The Rainier Club, and every time I step in, I just fall in love. With a city that continues to grow in an increasingly automated world, it's so refreshing to have historic buildings, such as The Rainier Club keep to its charm, despite the skyscrapers surrounding it. The first time I visited The Rainier Club was for a friend's wedding, as his family are club members. The ceremony took place on the second floor of the building in an open room with giant windows that looked out to the street. And the reception took place in another room nearby where there was a dance floor, live band and a balcony that looked out to the city. It was truly one of the most beautiful ceremonies I've ever been to, and the food served was outstanding. Again, The Rainier Club is a space that keeps to its tradition, and in large part, that's why I love it here. As soon as you walk in you see details dating back to the early 1900's, with vintage furniture in each room, carefully crafted and thought out for every space here. They even have a rotating art gallery that one of the members donates. After touring the space and learning more about the club, I am impressed by how much TLC goes into making members feel appreciated and special. They have a lot of amenities here, including their own secret bar in the building, a wine room with plaques, indicating the members' collection, complimentary meals, use of meeting spaces, etc...It's truly, a gem in Seattle that speaks volumes, even years after. read more

While I didn't see anything that made me think - where do I sign up - I can see the appeal for those who have money to burn. I was disappointed with the old musty, dusty smell of the building and in the hallways, but other than that everything was the definition of first class! Well, let me first explain what this place is. It is a private social club. Members pay a lifetime enrollment fee, and follow up with monthly dues. What they get in exchange is to be part of the SEATTLE ELITE. Of course, this is after they are reviewed and deemed acceptable to the standards of membership. Fortunately to the prospective applicant, we now live in times where sexism and racism are socially unacceptable. "At the beginning, the bylaws of the Club were exclusionary in that only men were admitted as members. There was also a tacit exclusion of foreign-born US citizens..." (from club website) Anyways, I imagine if you want to become a member, all you have to do is dress nice and carry a big checkbook. It also helps to have a member sponsor you. So, I ate the best meal of my life here the other night---more on that later-- still it should be said that other than drinking scotch and pissing in the fanciest men's room west of St. Louis, this place is largely seen and experienced as a dining club. Political figureheads from abroad are practically required to at least attend brunch here with the mayor if they are stopping through, and the food delights all. Key to my satisfaction was the kitchen's choice of local and artisan foods. They also do a great deal of their own food preparation, by which I mean salting and curing meats, canning preserves and chutneys, and of course, desserts from scratch. And what if some extra food is prepared, and would go to waste? They give it to the women's shelter across the alley. It has been said that Seattle's homeless don't go hungry, and now i am getting the picture. I've never eaten in the rainier club dining room, or in the lounge. No, I was led to a table with my father and his wife, accompanied by my girlfriend, through the dining room into the kitchen. Here we sat at a table set especially for us (they offer this 10 nights a month to members). The Chef's Table! i would describe this setting and all the fabulousness that it involved, but it would ruin it for you. highlight: a tour of the charcuterie, walk-in fridge. speaking of highlight, the kitchen was VERY brightly lit. not sure what i think of that. This meal cost over $150 a head after booze, tax and gratuity. We were treated like royalty, with a 9 course meal preceded by cocktails and paired with wines throughout. here's a synopsis: AMUSE Truffled Fregola sarda "porridge" Rabbit confit, truffles, poultry jus. OK, this was an eggshell with a hole in the top refilled with these items. It was good. paired with champagne. 1. Thai lobster consomme "a la press" with citrus tapioca and coconut 2. Hudson valley foie gras, savory cocoa nib waffle, bing- cherry cipolline onion composture, cooked grape must. very good, large serving of foie gras, paired with a very good Sauterne. 3. Pan roasted Dorade with butter glazed potatoes, hedgehog mushrooms, cabbage, bacon, Razor clams, creamy fumet and paddlefish caviar. Dorade is not to be confused with Dorado, aka mahi mahi. Its a lesser-known fish from the mediterannean, fairly light in texture and a little oily and sweet. the best part of this dish was the caviar. Conversely, the razor clams were disappointing. 4. Spritzy verjus soda, salted melon lollipop, coconut emulsion, smoked paprika. this was I think a palatte cleanser. 5. Porcini Dusted Kobe flatiron of beef, sauteed mustard greens, cinnamon cap mushrooms, quinoa corn fritters, tarragon jus. this was I think the best plate of food I've ever had. 6. Artisan cheese 7. Praline Chocolate silk, kumquats, huckleberry sherbet, striped dark chocolate terrine, pistachio brulee, pine nut tart, parmesan ice cream omg 8. I agree with Jake K. as a reciprocal member, this is the best place yet. We had a suite for less than a room in the nearby 4-star hotels. The parking lot is right next to the club and step from the side door. The location is excellent. We walked to both Belltown and Safeco Field. They did overcharge us for the room but it was adjusted upon our return home. The two negative ratings are for people with axes to grind - disregard. read more

We stayed here recently and I would not recommended it nor would we stay there again. Cons - hot water was not available on several mornings for spans of 2-4 hours. - heat didn't work and hotel had to bring in portable heaters - no room service - breakfast included was quite minimal - no water, fridge or anything available in the room. We checked in and asked about dinner and it was suggested we go to 7-11 around the corner. I've stayed in hundreds of hotels all over the world and have never not had hot water and heat available. This is a pretty old building with a lot of history but it clearly needs a renovation. read more

My local parental units belong here. Of course they do. Where else is my mom going to rock all her St. John? As a result, I am loathe to attend exactly four functions a year: 1. Easter Family Extravaganza - Pictures with the Easter Bunny, buffet (that generally poisons the guy I'm married to), face painting, pony rides - and one year, much to my delight - the soothing sounds of Jimmy Buffett singing "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw" piped throughout the building. \m/ 2. Torchlight - The same TERRIBLE 70's rock cover band every year. Rich people in Tommy Bahama shorts and loafers drinking Chi Chi's, several thousand over-privilaged, under-disciplined kids running amok with fudgicles. Bleachers on the front lawn where one is served drinks by waiters while the riff-raff sit on the street a few feet away. But not the street in front of the club - that shit is ours. And you will be asked to move along. 3. My parent's Christmas party - All of the stars belong to this event. My step-dad wobbling around with a decanter of Barbaresco, my sister, the guy I'm married to, and my two best friends heckling from a couch by the ginormous walk-in fireplace. This year - lobster bisque in demitasse cups passed on trays. Nice. 4. Christmas Family Extravaganza - See Easter. Replace pictures with the Easter Bunny with Santa and add random costumed characters roaming the building scaring the holy fuck out of small children. And one black guy. Ahhh...one of the joys of being a member in a private club is the reciprocity you get across the country at other clubs. It makes it better when they have their own accommodations so you don't have to leave the premises and can be entertained in one central locale. The Rainier club was absolutely delightful - the accommodations and amenities of an old four-star NY style hotel without the NY price. I was booked into a suite made from what looked to be two smaller rooms that contained a lounge area, bedroom, walk-in closet, and two bathrooms. Both rooms had A/C and were well decorated with what appeared to be mahogany furniture. Since I arrived rather late and my friend wanted to go out to eat, we ended up just getting some small plates from the kitchen delivered while we dusted off a few pre-celebratory bloody marys. The cheese board was well selected and complete with no less than six different cheeses and the shrimp cocktail was well dressed with an avocado and mango salad to accompany the five tails. The workout area was great and had plenty of weights, aerobic machines, and other accouterments to complement a workout. The wine room was absolutely impressive with its well stocked cabinets and various aged labels generously donated by the membership. Certainly a great experience - my only regrets lied in not being able to sample more of the kitchen - all the more reason to come back when I'm in Seattle again! read more

It looks gorgeous and the ambiance is very classy and formal, but the food was so disappointing. I went one night for a special dinner with my dad and some of his business friends and I was really impressed with the artwork, long hallways, and gorgeous dining and event rooms. They have an extensive wine list and that was just about the best thing there, though the wines there were only very expensive, as one might expect. I ordered the lobster bisque, which came out COLD and thin. It looked like oil that was separating from vinegar. It was cold and thin and flavorless with a big lump of lobster-salad stuff in the middle. Even the lobster couldn't cheer up the soup. I asked twice to get it warmed up and the waiter kept forgetting so I finally gave in and ate it. For my main, I had the "diver's scallops," which sounded great. It was a good portion, but it, too, was cold. It wasn't seasoned very well, either. It was definitely better than the soup, but it was very disappointing - could have gotten it almost anywhere else in town better and cheaper. Finally, the best part of the meal: the bread. The bread was great, warm, and refilled often with several different kinds of butter. That was the only indication that someone remembered that they had a restaurant going on in there. read more

The club is perfect for it intended use: "a social club, to promote friendly interaction among its members." If you aren't into that sort of thing, you're not going to enjoy it. For me, the Rainier Club has been oustanding. They just do everything just the way you'd expect. The guest rooms, food, service, drinks, clientele, and of course the staff - all outstanding. But what really makes the place special is the building; you just cannot duplicate the feel of the place without a 100 history. By far the best club I have ever visited in the country, outside of New York. And while it is not as stuffy as you might expect, it is not a place that would be welcoming to a fellow who goes by "Ass Man Z". read more

With great event space and surprisingly good food, the Rainier Club may feel stuffy and is a reminder of a bygone era, which is a bit rare these days in Seattle. I recently attended a breakfast meeting here, and the facilities and food were excellent. I had some of the best scones in my life, plus a very tasty hash, which was a nice modern take on the dish. The coffee, however, was what I would expect in the 1950s and probably one of the weakest cups I've had in awhile. The restrooms have some interesting and very polished fixtures, and part of the fun was to wander into different rooms to look at pictures and the history of people and places. I will probably never be a member at the Rainier Club, but I would look forward to the next event here. read more

Our wedding at the Rainier Club was all we could have asked for and more! While planning our wedding we toured all of the usual wedding venues in Seattle but nothing came close to matching the timeless elegance and history that the Rainier Club has. We could not have been more pleased with the impeccable and extremely personalized service provided by the venue throughout the process. Chef Jim modified dishes to suit our taste and lead bartender Joseph was able to perfectly recreate a cocktail from one of our favorite bars. We had the whole club to ourselves so were able to enjoy the beauty and character of several different spaces throughout our event and felt completely at home. The Rainier Club is a landmark mansion and its museum-quality art, luxurious furnishings, and refined elegance provide an ambiance that a hotel or typical wedding venue simply cannot provide. Our wedding was a fairy tale in large part to the Rainier Club. If you are trying to decide between the Rainier Club and anywhere else just remember that the Rainier Club has a fireplace large enough to fit an SUV! read more

Normally I do not Yelp too far from my home in Redondo Beach, but I have to allow an exception for the Rainier Club as the best private dining - and the consistently best dining, private or public, anywhere I have eaten, and I have eaten all over the globe, in the finest restaurants of Berlin, London, LA, Hawaii, etc. Bill Morris is a world class chef, and the Rainier Club provides world class service to match. A disclaimer of sorts is that I am still a non-resident member of this club, but my point is that I choose to remain a member for one reason only: because over and over the Rainier Club provides the highest level of service, the most gracious lodging, and the best dining available in Seattle, on par with any dining and service anywhere. Best kept secret in Seattle! Chef Bill Morris is really one of the most talented chef's in town. Food is outstanding and an amazing value. With many fantastic restaurants in Seattle, I still find myself returning to the club again and again for dinner, lunch, and special events. You won't be disappointed. The club now has a very good mix of people from all ages and backgrounds. The junior member (18-35 years old) populations has really grown in recent years. Being in the under 30 crowd myself, I was plesantly surprised by how many activities there are aimed at younger professionals. I debated between many local clubs (e.g., WAC, etc) for entertaining, socializing, and working out. What's unique about the Rainier Club is that they have everything you need in a smaller, more friendly, and personalized environment. Superb and friendly - but unobtrusive - service. At its best, the food is outstanding, and the many specials are always wonderful. The chef has been extremely creative in meeting last-minute needs, such as a vegetarian entree, and the staff are always most willing to make sure you get what you want. Try the soup of the day: it is always excellent, as a friend once put it, "the only serious soup in Seattle" (though I'd say the same thing about Cafe Campagne). Deeply satisfying, dignified, quiet. Wow! My husband's holiday party was held here recently. A beautiful venue on its own but it was just gorgeous with all of the Christmas decorations. We had a fabulous dinner. Buffets often leave vegetarians with one or two choices, not this one! Fresh salad, delicious asparagus orzo, various bread options, rice pilaf, mushroom ravioli and a carrot soup. I ate every bite! They also served a beef entree which my husband really enjoyed. The bar line was never long and the staff were wonderful. If I am ever invited back I would jump at the chance. read more

The RC is a place of privilege and prestige without pretentiousness. As a member's guest, I was treated to one of the best meals. The food was superb and presentation was excellent. I really loved the history of the building and the club too. A staff member was so charming as he shared some secrets and history about the building and offered an impromptu tour. I adored how well preserved and cared for the building is. Truly a balance of nostalgic and regal. Was here for a rehearsal dinner for a wedding. The venue is very fancy, well decorated, and staff is friendly. Food was delicious. Parking is a little limited, but there are spaces available. The only downside was the painfully slow service. It took forever to get anything. Appetizers, drinks, our meal. Just took forever. read more

An association I belong to has its meetings here. The lunch meals have consistently been top notch. I always order a fish or vegetarian plate. The last time they prepared an incredible veggie souffle kind of thing--wonderful. But I can't comment on membership or all the trappings involved in that though since I'm not a member currently. I like the club as a facility and the food is good. All the waiters and bartenders are cool and friendly. I feel like the door man needs to pay more attention. When I left the building, he was talking to somebody else or something, but I did not open the door for me. I had to open the door for myself. The Rainier Club is incredible. The mansion on 4th Ave houses so much political, social, and local history within the walls that the building itself is deserving of 5 stars, however there is the Club establishment that really deserves the praise. The Rainier Club has some the most extravagant and elegant events you could imagine in our city. The culinary team in the kitchen churns out classic dishes with experimental twists. The service staff is as cordial as any of the city's top steak houses. And the management and event planning teams have years of top-notch experience that allows for them to create perfection. My office had our holiday party here last week and everything was absolutely delightful. I would not have changed a single thing. If you're old, white, and rich, this place is probably great. You can sit around in Corinthian leather armchairs and smoke cigars, or whatever the 1% is doing these days. I've been forced to attend a number of family events here, and this place is nothing but a monument to pretention and ostentatious overconsumption. We actually didn't eat here but stayed overnight as a reciprocal member from a different club. We were locked out when we tried to enter and check in (it was really late) but that was a major annoyance considering we had been traveling all day. It's a pretty decent location but the construction noise and street noise was horrible. Couldn't sleep at all because there weren't any curtains and the street light came through. Totally dated amenities and the atmosphere was really heavy. Hard to describe but there's a way to keep the same decorum without the heavy decorations...the room just felt creepy and haunted. Staff was good and friendly but I wouldn't stay overnight here again. read more
