Fortunatley he healed well after two weeks of dedicated TLC but the trauma of the experience remained with both him and me well after Ryder physically healed. I reached out to Matt for virtual dog training appointments to help us through that, and his guidance and great wisdom around dog psychology and behavior and deep empathy for Ryder and in general made such a huge impact. I learned from Matt how to help Ryder through his fear and trauma and how to recognize when he was experiencing trauma (for example, he developed a new and strong fear of rumbling engines). By applying Matt's empathetic practices, Ryder has become much less fearful, is no longer afraid of rumbling engines or playing with other dogs and he's back to his old happy, playful, super enthusiastic and friendly self!! :) Matt also greatly helped my dog Ellie through the excessive anxiety that resulted from my marital separation and helped us learn what an impact the breaking of that social bond had on her and how to address it! We now give her the extra attention she needs when doing hand offs to switch between homes. My husband and I were initially looking to get our puppy in a group class, but we were worried…read moreabout him being around so many other dogs without being fully vaccinated. Also, our pup is a bit high-strung, so we thought he'd get more out of one-on-one in home training than a group class. We found out about Greg from my husband's coworker, and I'm so glad we did. Greg is very patient and thorough and most importantly, didn't seem annoyed that this hypercritical doggie mom had a ton of questions. He's also not one of those trainers who thinks that one way will work for every dog. When we had difficulty keeping out dog's attention when outdoors, Greg showed us other methods until we found one that worked. We were glad to have the handouts to help us remember everything we learned in each training session. I put them up on the fridge so that I could make sure we did our homework each week. Now I refer to them whenever I need reminders of proper technique. Greg was also very good about answering any questions or concerns promptly through email or by phone, even before we started our training sessions. He sent me a list of places where we could take our dog to socialize him when we first contacted him--about 3 weeks before we even started our sessions. Our Beto loved Greg so much that we have decided to board him at Greg's house over the Christmas holiday. I'll hate to be away from him for the holiday, but I feel better knowing that he'll have a vacation of his own at Greg's house, where he'll be just like one of the family. I brought my dogs in to the canine center for a few classes and a private training. Today, our trainer said that to solve my GSD's reactivity on the leash, we just needed to stop letting her go to the dog park. Okay, that's fine to have the a stance about a dog park, but i expect some sort of guide or training if I'm paying for a private session; not just - "stop taking your dog to the dog park." That's not a cure-all. Giving us a scripted answer that the dog park is the root of all evil isn't particular helpful for the situation that we're currently in. Which is truly, she has already learned reactivity on the leash so * where do we go/what do we do from here. * My vet had recommended this place many times but fool me three times canine center! Maybe other trainers are better or a better fit, but I felt like I could have Googled and saved myself $100. Additionally - the website says their recess is their take on day care; the trainer told me it's only for puppies. Too many conflicting message here. This place isn't for me and my fur babies.
