We had asked whether the elk still visited the property, and by pure luck, we were returning from a hike just as the herd wandered through the grounds. Being able to watch them up close was an unforgettable experience and one of the highlights of our trip. I also want to recognize the wonderful woman at the front desk whose name I unfortunately didn't catch. She greeted us each day with a warm smile and always wished us a great day or welcomed us back. Those small gestures made us feel truly valued as guests. Your hotel provided exactly what we needed--a place to unwind from our busy lives. We spent time relaxing in the hot tub, enjoying the common areas, and simply appreciating the charm, character, and hospitality that make your property so special. If you're looking for a place that captures the true charm, history, and beauty of Estes Park, this lodge is it. Originally opened on July 4, 1914, this historic lodge sits high on a hill overlooking Estes Park, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and even a clear view of the Stanley Hotel. With only 27 rooms, it offers a peaceful, intimate atmosphere that feels worlds away from the crowded hotels in town. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by Kayleigh, the Operations Manager. She was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable about both the lodge and Estes Park, and immediately made us feel at home. Walking into the lodge feels like stepping back in time in the best possible way. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a true log cabin feel. Many of the decorations and furnishings are original, including some of the glassware, which adds to the incredible history of the property. The first floor features three original fireplaces, plenty of comfortable seating, complimentary coffee and water, board games, books, movie rentals, and DVD players in every room. The lodge has also built a beautiful bar area that should be opening soon once their liquor license is finalized, which will be another great addition. During our first night, we stayed in Room 305, a one-bedroom suite with a separate bedroom and incredible mountain views. The bed, pillows, and bedding were honestly some of the most comfortable I've ever slept on outside of my own home. I slept amazingly well. The room included a kitchenette with a two-burner cooktop, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker with Folgers coffee, dishes, paper towels, dish soap, sponge, and even cute little salt and pepper shakers. The bathroom was stocked with quality shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion. The view from Room 305 was breathtaking. As the sun set behind the Rocky Mountains, it looked as if the mountains were glowing with fire. It was one of the most beautiful views I've experienced in Estes Park. For our second night, we moved to Room 103, a spacious two-bedroom suite. This room was absolutely huge and perfect for families or groups. It featured two separate bedrooms, a larger kitchen area with a mid-sized refrigerator, multiple bathrooms, a comfortable living room, and a full balcony with tables and chairs overlooking Estes Park. Like every room, it included a box fan, though we actually found ourselves getting chilly enough to close the windows at night. The outdoor amenities are just as impressive. The pool is large, clean, and surrounded by plenty of tables, chairs, and loungers. The hot tub is the perfect temperature and includes bubbling jets. There's a hammock for relaxing, Adirondack chairs overlooking the scenery, cornhole for some friendly competition, and propane grills available for guests to use. The property also hosts weddings, and honestly, I can't imagine a more beautiful setting for one. What I love most about this lodge is that it feels authentic. It's quiet, secluded, and never crowded. The limited number of rooms creates a peaceful atmosphere that's becoming harder and harder to find in Estes Park. I've stayed at five different hotels and lodges in Estes Park over the years, and this is hands down my favorite. The combination of history, comfort, amenities, incredible views, friendly staff, and fair pricing makes it stand out above the rest. With plans for a future restaurant and continued improvements, it's only going to get better. When I return to Estes Park--and I definitely will--this is where I'll stay. If you're considering lodging options in town, don't overlook this hidden gem. In my opinion, you're missing out if you choose somewhere else. read more

Cute place! I wish I could say the same about customer service. My fiancé and I didn't feel very welcomed when we first arrived because she was quiet the whole time and just checked us in without saying much. The customer after us though, received a huge smile, warm greetings, and lots of information about the lodge without any prompting. Not sure what gave him special treatment over us? Interesting. The lodge itself is pretty cozy. Lots of historical artifacts and pictures that can make any history buff as pleased as can be. Our room was spacious and makes it so that if you were to stay awhile, it would definitely feel like home. No AC tho, so we were boiling up. read more

Located only a few minutes outside the park and downtown, the lodge sits atop a hill and offers lots of peace and quiet. Our standard suite must have been recently renovated because it had a nice, modern bathroom. We loved the kitchenette complete with a stove, microwave, sink and fridge and wished we could have made more use of it than just microwaving some leftovers and brewing a pot of coffee! The suite also had a cozy little living room/sitting area. There is no AC (but there was a fan) so it can get hot and stuffy during the summer. If you like the craftsman style buildings, you'll dig this one. The lobby was definitely historical. It even boasted paraphernalia on the man who built it, etc. We thought the game room was pretty cool, complete with a pool table, as well as, you guessed it...games. There's also an outdoor pool (although the heater wasn't working while we were there) and fire pit sitting area. At $277/night plus $12 resort fee/night, this is one of the pricier options in the area. read more

Had a great 4 night stay. Everything in the room and bathroom was perfectly clean and updated. There's no AC so I'm glad I wasn't there mid summer, but an abundance of fans. The blinds are incredibly weird but you get used to them. Great small kitchenette I made full use of. Probably lucky I was on the top floor because sound seems to carry. Such a unique location, up a hill which gives great views. The lobby is all rustic and has a game room which reminded me of summer camp. Big chess board out back was super fun. Didn't try the restaurant though it smelled good. The staff are exceptionally nice, especially Rose who is just about the nicest person I've ever met in my life. We stayed at the Crag's lodge for 3 nights for my daughter's wedding that was there in Estes Park. I read the reviews of both this place and reviews of The View restaurant...I will say this about anyone who posts a negative review: go back to where you came from and leave the negativity off your reviews! This lodge opened in 1914 and they've done a great job to keep it all functioning without losing the historical charm. If the location, view and uniqueness aren't enough then you'll be overwhelmed by the caring and helpful nature of the staff. This isn't a Marriott so don't expect it to be one, but everyone we dealt with was accommodating and helpful; I just can't say enough about the compliments we received from our guests about the location and accommodations. Now, about the restaurant onsite, The View. Michael and his staff created a special menu and went all out to help make our dinner event memorable. The filet was amazing, and the cobbler... I had no idea you could make a cobbler taste that good! Impressed. And don't let the lodgy feeling tables and chairs get in the way of your thinking, they totally bring the whole experience together and cement a memory about the time spent here that you will remember fondly and wonder when next you'll find your way to The Crag's Lodge with dinner at The View! We stayed with our children in a two bedroom/2 bath suite with a kitchenette. It fit our needs perfectly and at a great price. The staff had excellent recommendations for local food and activities. They were very accommodating and had a pack and play we used (we forgot ours). The downstairs has an activity room filled with board games, movies, books, and a pool table. At night they have the supplies and fire to make s'mores in the lobby. It is a quiet and serene location, perfect for a getaway with or without the family! read more

What an amazing venue for a wedding reception! This past weekend, a friend of the family had their wedding reception in the dining room at the Historic Crags Lodge, and it was amazing. I assisted the family in decorating the dining room for the event, and I was impressed by how wonderful the staff was. The Events Coordinator, Aki, was so professional and helpful. The meal, catered on-site, included appetizers (chicken skewers, spinach empanadas, cheese, and crackers), grilled seasonal vegetables, garlic mashed potatoes, pork loin, and eggplant lasagna; when the family told me how much they were charged, I was really impressed by how reasonable it was for such a great meal. This was a beautiful and picturesque site for a reception. read more

Barbara, Rosemary, and Sharon were just the beginning of a great team that made our stay simply wonderful. We stayed a week and it most enjoyable and peaceful visit. Our room was not the Ritz, and I mean that in the perfectly rustic with more than enough conveniences kind of way to make it just right for this time near RMNPark. Tremendous views from our room and the resort and restaurant (The View) team were all very personable, professional and diligent. I married my Lovely here at the Historic Crag's Lodge on 24 June 2017. Jessica was very helpful and the staff was friendly and on point. The only thing that I didn't like was the price of the rooms, several out of state family and friends stayed here for the weekend, the rooms are small, a little outdated for the price. Historic Crag's Lodge was pretty nice. Good for families and couples. It's pretty quiet and has some historical significance. Located in a nice area and there is free parking available on site. We stayed in a studio and it came with a kitchen and a nice modern bathroom. Bathroom is nicer compared to the rest of the place. Bed was nice as well. It wasn't dented in like some other mattresses in other hotels. Pretty comfy. I wouldn't mind staying here again. Paid around $80 bucks for the night. Great location and close to Rocky Mountain National Park. There's also a Jacuzzi as well. read more

A great place to stay! Booked through Groupon for a deal. From the moment we arrived, the front desk staff were so warm and friendly, and they checked in with us to see how we were doing whenever we came in or out. You can tell they definitely care about their customers. The lobby is wonderful with a fireplace and lots of tables to hang out, read or play games. And you can check out games and DVDs to bring to your room for a nice night in! Everywhere in the lodge was spotless and very clean. The room itself is nice, and the kitchenette was perfect for cooking a few meals, but the bathroom is very modern and seems more recently remodeled than the rest of the room. The real value of the Crags for us was in the service and the charm of this little mountain lodge. So cozy and the staff make sure you have a great experience. For our Colorado trip, last September, we decided to stay at the Crags lodge in Estes Park. This is a 100 year-old hotel. We were told it was remodeled around the 50s ( remodeled again since of course) and the wife of the owner wanted to preserve the romantic crows foot bath tube and we happened to stay at the only remaining one in the hotel. Not fancy but cool fact. The rooms are divided into sort of living area and bedroom, there's no AC and I guess this is more common in CO because of the temp and if the hotels have AC, they may not always use it. Didn't try the restaurant so can't comment on that. They advise not to leave food in your car because of the Bears... Overall we enjoyed our stay, was for one night anyway. My wife and I made a reservation for 8:00 pm on a Friday evening. We chose the Historic Craig's Lodge restaurant because of the ambiance. We arrived early hoping that we can get in because we were hungry. There appeared the be plenty of empty tables and we were told that we would be seated at 8:00 pm. We were seated at 8:10 pm and already knew what we wanted and placed the order as soon as we were greeted by the waiter. 45 min later we still had not received our food. I asked the waiter how much longer and I was told that the food should be ready in five minutes. An hour after we were seated the food still had not arrived. The staff was rarely seen and I went to the kitchen area and asked for our waiter. After a five minute wait I went back to the kitchen and ask the first person I saw for the bill for our drinks and to cancel our order. This was the worst service that I have ever received at a restaurant. read more

Liked - The staff... was amazing. I liked all the antique atmosphere I saw on the pictures representing the resort, sadly, that is why we booked. This atmosphere was not carried throughout the resort. Disliked · Where to start. The $36 resort fee... for what??? WiFi that doesn't work? Copying and faxing (does anyone still fax?), didn't need it. Guess we could have used the hot tub, however upon entry we were told it is hard for them to maintain the minimum number even tho they try, so no. The beds- oh my lanta! My partner had to crawl to the bathroom in the morning because they were so uncomfortable- hidden secret, the fold out couch is slightly more comfy, but just slightly. Upon entering the room, the couch had a small red stain on it, there was eye lubricant from a former guest on the floor and the wood furniture was heavily scarred. And the DVD library is closed (here is a suggestion, print out a list of your library with that copier you so kindly charged us to use, laminate it so that you can sanitize it, and have an employee retrieve the DVD's - it would have saved us the extra $40 we spent at Redbox... just saying). This was our anniversary- our first anniversary and the one that we were looking forward too, as we have been together for quite some time, but this was our FIRST wedding anniversary. We both took 4 days off of work to come 54 minutes away from our home, and each morning we woke up to ask ourselves if we shouldn't just go home. read more

I saw the reviews for the restaurant and went there for the views! The main courses looked amazing so we decided to try it out!!! When we got there the ambiance was very hard to grasp. It had the look of an old camping lodge that never got updated to modern times. The menu itself was something to behold...something you would see on Ramsey Restaurant nightmares... potato skins, wings, green chili, hummus plate, salad, cheese soup etc for apps and the mains were a mix of steaks, fish entree's, and burgers. Not to my surprise the apps failed to deliver. Lacking seasoning, the hummus came out flat. What was surprising was the quality of the filet mignon which was cooked to perfection! The sides (mushrooms and potato skin looking things were visibly over-seasoned and too salty). Looks like they were doused with Montreal seasoning. The peach cobbler is worth a visit all by itself! The best peach cobbler I have ever tasted! I am not sure what the chef is trying to do with the menu but the steak was amazing. I guess my mind is blown with the bar food type of apps they have which do not compliment the quality of entrees he is putting out. If you have duck confit on the menu why not make that an appetizer and have duck breast on the entree menu??? This place serves great food but it needs a makeover on the decor and the menu needs tweaking...the menu does not scream fine dining but the filet mignon does.... read more

We stayed at the Lodge September 27-29, 2018. The weather was perfect and the Lodge was too. Our room had a small kitchenette area with all the dishes and cooking utensils you need. Plus a coffee maker, microwave and mini frig. Outside there were 2 gas grills, a heated pool, hot tub, gas fire pit and deck area. The view of the town and mountains was beautiful. There is a restaurant in the lodge as well. It was closed one of the nights for a wedding, though. It is in close proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park and all of the shops and restaurants in Estes Park. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back! read more

Yikes. "Historic" says it all. I stayed in room 001, below the restaurant. DON'T do that! Footsteps on the creaky old floor and screeching chairs come through perfectly, just like in the old days! Staff keep walking around after the restaurant closes too (of course) so don't be lulled into thinking things quiet down quickly. Wifi (part of the services provided with the $12/day resort fee) is archaic, historic! Less than 3Mb/sec. Practically unusable for the work I needed to get done in the evening. Prices in the restaurant are high (but it is a beautiful setting). I asked for recommendations for a nearby restaurant and was sent to one that was closed that evening, so left on my own. Parking is free for guests as part of the resort fee, but there are barely enough spaces for guests. When you get to the end of the parking lot and they're all full, good luck turning around. You have to back out. I hate to keep saying it like this but if you are looking for an experience with lots of historic inconveniences, this is the place. I'm not all disappointed curmudgeon. The room was cozy and well appointed with a kitchenette and a little bay window with a view. The desk staff were nice and tried to be helpful. The setting above the town is cool. And, of course, it is Estes Park - great place to be. read more

I had spinach empanadas. I lot better than description. Light, fresh baked pastry around creamy spinach and artichoke hearts. Flash fried spinach, and artichoke. Crispy, delicious, and not greasy. Trout, meaty and more like salmon. Short ribs tender, flavorful, and generous portion. Very enjoyable experience. A treat to have fresh chef prepared food. A limited menu means attention to detail. We stayed here during our honeymoon in Estes Park and we love it! The hotel staff make you feel like they're your old neighbors in your hometown. Very friendly, and always ready with local recommendations. The lodge has a room with books and board games and puzzles you can take up to your room - which just adds to the cozy feeling here. The rooms are nothing too special, but still very cozy! No AC, no daily housekeeping - but honestly we didn't need either one. We loved the fully equipped kitchen with real glasses and silverware. It felt like we were living in Estes Park - not there on vacation. Location is great! We walked through downtown Estes Park on multiple locations from the lodge, with no problem. Only a few miles from tourist things like RMNP and the Stanley Hotel. Also! The rooms still operate on old fashioned keys, not key cards - which we thought was so neat! Stayed here for two nights recently. Location: A+ Great view, quiet spot. In the middle of anywhere you want to go in this area. Parking: C Not much they can do about this, but when the parking is full it's a drag. Staff: A+ For hotel and restaurant. Friendly and helpful. Everything you expect. Lobby: A Warm and inviting. Room: B+ Old, but that's expected too. Comfortable and clean. Wasn't aware that it had a kitchenette and fridge, which were both nice to have. Air flow was an issue. Had a room on the first floor and they had a bear warning, so couldn't open the window or door. I like to sleep in a colder room and this was warm. Restaurant: B Pricey but very tasty. Friends of ours coordinated a murder mystery dinner at Crags Lodge for the weekend. We were able to pretty much get the entire lodge considering winter is really the off season for Estes Park. Our room was pretty nice with a decent view of the town, queen bed, small stove, microwave, flat screen TV, etc. (pretty much any amenity you needed). Since it was off season we were pretty much given the run of the place and allowed to bring our own food for the big dinner and use the resort's kitchen to prepare everything. The staff was super helpful. The dining/dancing area has a large fireplace and the entire wall is of windows allowing a great view of the trees and town. The place has been around since 1914 and the upkeep has been pretty amazing. You truly feel as if you have gotten away. read more

My boyfriend and I come to Estes often and we've tried different places each time. The Crags lodge has been the most disappointing. Pros Our interaction was primarily with one staff member whom was excellent. The hot tub is a nice feature. They had smores available on our second night which I thought was a nice touch. Cons We were lodged in "the annex" behind the lodge. It was extremely small, very outdated, and in need of repair (holes in the wall, peeling wallpaper). It felt more like a tool shed. Estes park is a wonderful place but the Crags lodge not so much. For your money, you can do much better. read more

The staff was great. Smores night was fun. The spa was nice. The setting was incredible. The room sucked. Reminded me of a cheaply constructed pre-manufactured home from the 70s. Snot-green carpet with floral prints on it, holes in the walls from yesteryear's fixtures, a loveseat that looks leather, until you sit on it and realize it's cloth with leather print. Charming old lodge style hotel, now a time-share (we booked on VRBO) nestled at the top of a ridge overlooking the town of Estes Park. Delicious meal at onsite restaurant The View. We ate dinner twice on small private balcony where we could watch the sun set and see the tram going up the mountain. Rustic wood floors and rock fireplaces. Modern clean rooms. Fantastic little place to stay. We booked through a groupon and got a very fair price. The rooms are definitely on the small size, but we'll call them "cozy". Felt tight with two people staying in the studio room...theoretically sleeps 4, but I wouldn't recommend that! Despite the size, our studio room was well equipped with a full kitchenette complete with silverware, dishes, pots and pans, toaster, etc. We stayed on a couple very cold nights in the winter, and despite the age of the building, the rooms stayed very warm! There is safe in the closet for valuables. The location of the Lodge tucked off the main road, combined with other features such as the pool table, book and DVD checkouts, coffee and tea in the morning, and the fireplace in the lobby made this a very cozy and welcoming place to stay. read more

We spent four days and three nights at The Crags in March. That place has lots of history and located in Estes Park, Colorado near downtown. The place is 100 years old but very well maintained. The staff is very friendly and informed. Our window view from the room overlooks the small town. Mountains in the background. This makes it so convenient to be close by to the shopping area. It was cold with the little bit of snow everywhere. Made the trip very nostalgic. We saw deer up on the hillside that's behind the stores downtown. Very close to nature. read more

Very friendly staff allowed us to check in early after traveling since 4am! The rooms are cozy and comfortable with a small kitchenette. The only bad thing so far was the thin walls, but our sound machine hid most of the noise. The front staff was exceptionally polite and very accommodating. I will definitely stay here again.
