This town is a stop for us on the West Highland Way. This restaurant was recommended, my many, over the others in town. We got here just before 1600 on a Thursday. There were several people already sat inside and out but we were still greeted and sat immediately. The staff is friendly. Go to your table. Review the menu. When you decide you go to the counter to order. Be sure to not your table number before going up. They will bring it out to you. Be sure to eye all the delectable cake options while in line. The first restaurant we have ate at while in Scotland that wasn't more of a pub. The fish was light and flakey. The batter was crispy and not overly seasoned. Think along the lines of shake and bake. Which I like. The loaded fries were great. Thick cut, freshly cooked fries with some veggies, bacon, jalapeños, and cheese. They have THE softest grain bread you will ever try. (Debatable) read more

There is a good selection of fish and chips, sandwiches and pastries to choose from so you will not go hungry. As with many of these smaller towns, there are not a lot of food choices so we chose here. It can get crowded because it is a small place but you get a table and then you go up and order at a counter and they will bring your food out. This place stood out amidst the culinary desert that was the West Highland Way. Like seemingly every other establishment across the 96-mile trek, it mostly served up carb-heavy British fare, but did so with far more deftness and charm than elsewhere. We ate two meals at the Real Food Cafe during our 16 hours in Tyndrum, and would probably have had a third had we not had to resume walking at dawn. Whether this reflects more on the cafe or the town, I shall leave to readers' own judgement. A first meal of stovies was hearty and nourishing, yet packed in more flavour than its morbid pallor at first suggested. At the second, I had a perfectly adequate burger, while my companion made the better choice of fish and chips, which seemed excellent. On both occasions, service was prompt, prices were reasonable, and our meals were simple but pleasant. I left feeling sorry not to have sampled any of the cafe's apparently award-winning cakes or pastries, or what I'm sure would have been an excellent cooked breakfast. read more

For the most part I'm a man of simple tastes. I'm just as happy with a take away as I am with a meal which requires several forks to eat. The Real Food Company should have been an eating experience I talked about for months to come, and on that note I guess they were successful. But, not for the right reasons. Upon entering I was impressed with the overall feel of the place. Yet the longer I spent there more uncomfortable I felt. Being in the same room as the kitchen should have meant that you were greeted with the smell of freshly cooked food. However after walking past the smoking area outside the front door. The only smell I could make out at first was stale smoke, when that finally dissipated, we were greeted to the smell of fresh bleach. I'm glad that the place is clean and it is better to smell that than old grease. But, it did make everything feel very clinical and removed from the homey decor which they were trying to go for. Speaking of decor I did really like the layout of the building and tables were set up so that you could watch the staff in the kitchen working. But going back to how strong the air smelled of cleaning products I was surprised how sticky the tables were. The staff wore a simple black tee which as uniforms go is quite inoffensive, but the legend on the back of the shirts, "God's choice of chip shop," left a bitter, pretentious taste in the air. Frankly the food did not live up to that standard. The food was good to look at, but that's where it ended. I love black pudding suppers. I have done since I was a kid and frankly don't have much of a standard when it comes to them. But one thing I cannot abide is food which is greasy. Not only did the food have a very oily consistency. Both the black pudding and fish I tasted were bland and tasted of what I can only describe as disappointment. I will I'm sure try eating here again, after all everyone can have an off day. But while the Real Food Cafe may be "God's choice of chip shop" it certainly won't be mine anytime soon. read more

THIS is where I'd recommend people eat in Tyndrum. Yes, it's mainly a sort of fancy fish and chip shop, but one with separate fryers for vegetarian food and gluten free, and they also make their own cakes, soups and salads. There are lovely wooden tables to sit at, the food's good, and they serve wine and beer. And the staff are very friendly - it's a nice wee place. read more

We made an unexpected stop here when we encountered road disruptions on the way to Skye. Hungry and with an hour to kill, the Real Food Cafe seemed appealing! With their fish and chips and very own carrot cake boasting awards we expected good things. (Unfortunately, they were all out of carrot cake, boo!) The cafe has an open kitchen and a homely decorative feel. I particularly liked the hanging fish made from cooking utensils! I had the haddock supper. In terms of value, it's not the cheapest (and it's 50p extra for a small tub of tartare sauce!) but the portions were generous. (My regular supper was too much for me!) The fish was nice enough but I had a nibble of black pudding which was juicy, full of flavour and the fish just seemed bland in comparison. Also, despite the fact that it wasn't all that busy, we had quite a wait! We were just a little disappointed but that might be down to the hype that surrounds the cafe. It's impossible to ignore the posters and awards on the walls. Maybe the carrot cake is the real show-stealer! read more

What a find! Homemade scones and other bakery stuff, Scottish ice cream. And you can ask where all the rest of the stuff comes from! Tea, coffee, beer wine and hot chocolate delux with marshmallows and cream, oh my!! I don't think it smells like bleach to be honest, in fact I m sure it doesn't it smells like new constructed stuff and yes, not like food that's right but I don't necessarily like to smell like a French fry because of an open kitchen, if the smell is too strong sit outside, of course that's if the weather allowes it. We had a scone with butter and jam, crunchy and soft at the same time and delicious! Then I had blood pudding( yes I did!!) they gladly changed the normal side of chips to a salad for me, nice! The staff is super friendly and helpful, I wish to find so many more places like this when you are on the road! read more

And I had no idea of something like that :-). Bottom line is that this is a family run restaurant with lots of personality and a great spot to stop in A82 road (i was in my way to Fort William). The fish and the chips are really good. The haddock was juice inside and crispy outside. And they offer several size options to suit all. The snack haddock (or cod if you prefer) supper is perfectly sized to one person without a big appetite (like me): one big half fish and too many chips for £5.80. The standard size is around £8. There is also a family size including 2 standard portions and 2 snack portions of fish and chips and the 4 drinks for less than 30. They have good wireless free internet (great to update the maps) and the password is printed in the cashier receipts. read more

I was on route to Plockton for work and stopped off in this wee cafe for a light bite as there would be a fair way before another place beyond Tyndrum later in the evening. I dropped in previously a couple of years ago in a bit of a rush during a previous work trip but just grabbed and went. I was glad I had both the fish on this occasion as well as a little more time to savour the serving this time I opted for the "snack size" fish supper at a cost of £5.50 or thereabouts as I wished to keep some appetite for my dinner on arrival up north. (The full size supper with choice of fish was around £7.50 if I recall correctly). Now I know hunger is a good kitchen and all that and I'm not overly fond of fish as I find that the quality varies wildly but this has got to be the best fish supper I've ever tasted. The batter was done to perfection - light, fluffy n crunchy and there were two portions of fish along with steak cut chips. I honestly couldn't finish the meal and needed a wee lie down in the car afterwards. All in the "snack" portion was more than enough and I would only recommend the full size if you're a touring Samoan rugby player. Compared to some local chippies at home, the size quality and value more than compared and in fact out did some of the best that I've tasted all over the country. In short cafe perfection. This stop is a roadtrippers paradise. I love the atmosphere here. Homey mismatched chairs, a warm fireplace, and soft hanging lights. The place has a Scandinavian ski-lodge vibe. I give five stars because in a string of small towns, this place opens early and closes late (9:00pm). I also gave 5 stars because they have reliable public free wifi. I found the food to be average in quality and price (a large tea is £ 2.00). But worth the convenience and friendliness at this stop. read more

had a full breakfast. everything was tasted great. while the full scottish breakfast is everywhere, not a lot of places can make it taste better than "blah". restaurant was well lit and the decor was modern. wifi wasnt the fastest but acceptable. they ran out of mushrooms, so cashier offered us extra helpings of other food items. excellent! great place for a break for the West Highland Way walkers as its pretty chill place. this is one of the best places to stop by on the WHW as most places offer terrible service, terrible food at higher prices to rip off the walkers. read more

We stopped in for a potty stop as we were heading to Ft William from Edinburgh in October 2016. Finally found the name and just had to comment on it. We loved it! It was a very cold day driving toward Glencoe and wanted something hot for the drive (I felt bad not buying anything). Well my husband started chatting with the owner and were both so amazed at this recent widow, the story of her husband and the little cafe. So friendly, not unlike the rest of Scotland, but even more so here. Well let's just top it off to say we ended up eating lunch and had the best fish and chips in Scotland bar none! During our journey we had fish and chips everywhere we stayed during our 12 day trip. Always and still compare these to everywhere else. Never do the come close to the perfection of The Real Food Cafe. Thin and crispy and flaky. Mmmm! Cozy fireplace only added to the charm. Can't wait to visit again.
