Ok, brisket here is the real deal. Needs no sauce, although their homemade stuff is quite good. Perfect combination of smoke, tenderness, aroma, color and bark. Warms back up days later, just good as fresh. And THAT is one of the true tests of good brisket. read more

Ordered a 2-meat sandwich of sliced beef and jalapeño cheddar sausage with a sweet BBQ sauce. The sausage has some nice spice, but the meat was a bit grainy in texture. The Mac & Cheese was good and adding it to the sandwich made the sandwich even better. Overall solid BBQ but disappointing you can't use any of the picnic tables there to enjoy the food. Don't get me wrong this place smells amazing! So I figured how could I go wrong. Of course smoked wood always smells good and shouldn't be the indicator that the food is good. That being said, I got a bbq plate. I ordered the chopped beef, pinto beans and Mac and cheese. The beans tasted like plastic, the mac and cheese were bloated noodles with some weird cheese sauce. Now the chopped beef was okay but it wouldn't make me want to stop to have it ever again. I took a few bites of everything and just couldn't continue so I threw the rest away. What a waste. And yes everyone who said the service was bad wasn't lying! I got yelled at for having my dog outside, which fine no problem my husband took our dog back to the car and waited with her while I got our food but I didn't need the evil eye the whole time while I ordered. That should have been my indicator to just leave. Lesson learned. read more

The sliced brisket was tough and relatively flavorless. In particular it had almost no smoke ring or bark. Service was neither prompt or friendly. A lack of competition apparently keeps this place in business. It was much less expensive than the much better Texas barbecue you can get almost anywhere in Austin. read more

These people are rude crooks!! Come here if you want to be completely screwed over... Charged my card TWICE and said it didn't go through even though it showed the money had been taken out twice on my mobile app. Still they refused to give me my food because 'my card was declined'. When I talked to the owner things got even worse!! Can you believe this guy actually yelled at me and told me he could do whatever he wanted because it's his business?! What kind of place is this guy running? I even called my bank and they confirmed that I HAD been charged twice. the girl at the front said she would give me a refund after all (which btw, who actually offers a refund if they don't believe your card really went through?!) so she refunds me HALF of what was actually charged to my card. So I was charged $13, got yelled at by the owner, didn't even get my food and then because they had already given me my tea my father in law was told he had to pay for my tea. But it gets EVEN worse... When I went to the bank to settle everything and show them my recites and see what I could do they looked at my recites and say no wonder there wasn't a refund issued... It says 'offline'. The girl must have turned off the credit card machine and swiped my card just to give me a recite and shut me up. Ugh REALLY?! (See pics) I don't care if you have the juiciest BBQ, served on gold plated platters, hand fed to me by you yourself.... So this place is "Real Pit BBQ" with a great side of southern hospitality Visiting this area of Texas I was hoping to find a place that had some fantastic BBQ and asking one of the locals that live there that happen to be friends of mine, they told me to try this place. In fact they would take me there to try it because it is so good. Looking at this place from the street it doesn't look like much, but what great restaurant does? Looking at the two people in side, I step up to the window and order what I wanted and the family that I came along with did the same knowing exactly what they wanted. The man took the order, shut the glass window and the him and his employee started working at what they do best. Making some grade A BBQ. We waited for a few min and after getting to talk to them while they worked he invited us to go to this little rodeo they and a group of others through every thursday night. Sharing a few laughs and talking about how he started this place up turned out to be a lot of fun and the wait for the food was not that long at all. So grabbing my tee, bag of chips and my BBQ sandwich, I sat down to eat and boy did I enjoy it. Thats "real pit BBQ" right there! I would travel the 3 hours to see my friends any day knowing there was this good of a place here. I look forward to going here soon and trust me, I will be here soon. Stopped in on a whim that small town places are the best and gosh darn it was I RIGHT again ! That sliced brisket was moist, perfect temperature, fall apart piece of heaven. The potato salad was absolutely delicious as well the only thing I would have done different is, order more ! Quick service, very short wait for my food. Kind and courteous people. Overall our experience was good and we will definitely be back. We had brisket, ribs, plain sausage, mac n cheese, and pinto beans. The brisket was fantastic which is what earns four stars. The ribs were cooked very well but had a sweet rub which was much different than midwestern pork ribs. The texture of the sausage was a little off but the flavor was good. The sauce was sweet and spicy with black pepper with a tangy backbone. Finally for sides, the mac n cheese was very special and the pinto beans were good enough to eat with a spoon like soup. Not horrible, but certainly not good Texas BBQ. We ordered plates with two sides. I got sliced beef and sausage, wife got sliced beef. My sides were mac and cheese, and potato salad, my wife ordered green beans and coleslaw, but received potato salad and coleslaw instead..... Who knows if the brisket was any good, it was drowned in what tasted like Kraft barbecue sauce. Potato salad was more like a cold mashed potato than typical chunk potato salad. Mac and cheese was ok, not super flavorful. Coleslaw wasn't bad, but they put the extra onions and pickles on top of it, so it absorbed the pickle flavor/juice. Over all, I'd say this place will work as a last resort, but I'd try to find other options first. read more

From the outside it lives up to it's name. Very unassuming location that we probably would not have stopped at without a recommendation from a local. We are very glad we went. We ordered the Family pack with 1/2 beef and 1/2 sausage and selected potato salad and coleslaw as our sides. The meal came with bread, pickles, onions, and plenty of BBQ sauce. We ordered a large lemonade and a slice of chocolate pecan pie. The flavor was all around delicious with exceptional potato salad. One downside is the amount of styrofoam and plastic used without a recycling container available. Taking the food to go would reduce this some. read more

3pm on a Tuesday, hungry after a drive out from Houston. Brisket was dry and 1/2 of us had thick, chewy pieces at the bottom. They were out of jalapeño cheddar sausage, but the other sausage options were good. It's the risk you run getting local bbq. Sauce was good, but applied to the meat in our to-go boxes, and I prefer to apply as needed, not pre-sauced. We all got dessert, and I was surprised to get chocolate in my pecan pie. Not bad, but I prefer pecan pie to be just that. No bonus ingredients. read more

I am a local and I get BBQ from the Real Pit BBQ at least twice a week. The brisket and smoked Turkey are our favorites. We also order a smoked Turkey and all the sides every Thanksgiving and Christmas. read more

Good bbq. I am a fan of their ribs and their brisket sandwiches. Nice deep rich smoky bbq. It is convenient to my location, about 5 minutes away from me, and are at the intersection of River Road and FM 2673. Some drawbacks are they close very early (6pm) and are not consistantly open during regular posted hours. Otherwise, try them out. read more
