This was our first visit to the Canyon Lake Area and when we travel we love trying local places. There wasn't much around but we saw this place and decided to give it a try. Man was it worth the stop!! From the friendly service as soon as you come in to the mouth watering food, it quickly became a highlight of this trip! The brisket and turkey was cooked perfectly and O man that Mac and cheese! I love a good, thick Mac and cheese and this one hit it out of the park!! Trust me, if you love BBQ you can't go wrong eating here when you're in town!

Amazing BBQ ! I had such a great experience at Bare Bull BBQ! From the moment I walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly. The food? Absolutely delicious. Everything was perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and clearly made with care. You can really tell they take pride in what they do. BBQ is trash. Too close to Austin for it to be this bad. Flat brisket was dry and no smoke flavor. At all. I could've baked better brisket in the oven. Ribs had a weird chemical taste. HORRIBLE. Potato salad had ZERO seasoning. No salt, no pepper. Beans are ranch beans out of a can. VERY SAD I came here.

If you guys would focus your energy on putting out decent barbecue rather than frantically manipulating a fake Yelp profile, you could actually do some good for the community and be proud of your products. Until then, this place should be closed. No, I'm not exaggerating. - ORIGINAL REVIEW: These people must be buying reviews, because we were just discussing the need for a TX state law on what can be called barbecue. This brisket is truly dreadful. Dry, flavorless, zero smoke. Was this meat boiled and then thrown on the smoker for a few minutes? Flavorless bbq sauce pairs perfectly.

Before heading to Bare Bull, I always say "let's just get some a pound of Brisket" and I never learn. This time around, we ended up with a pound each of Brisket, pork ribs and jalapeño sausage. Everything is as good as the last time. For sides, the Mac n cheese is always a winner and so is the potato salad. There is something slightly different though.....the BBQ sauce. It's sweeter and we all love it! Dip a Texas toast in it and it's delicious. I swear, next time, I'll just get the brisket(I think).

We ordered the three-meat sampler, which included brisket, burnt ends, and chicken, while my husband opted for the brisket sandwich. Every bite was delicious--the meat was juicy with perfect bark marks. The sides were equally impressive, and the meal was perfectly finished with their banana pudding. My husband likes it and I'll go because of him, but I'd rather not eat here. Tried the chopped beef sandwich and it just wasn't good. Tasted like the BBQ sauce was soaked in sugar, in addition to the buns being cold and dry. Nothing I've had here is delicious or worth the drive. Just not for me.

Found this spot on Yelp and went for lunch after some boating on the lake. It was a Saturday around 2:30pm and it was empty! Quick service- Kat was the best! She answered all my questions and steered me in the right direction. I got the ribs, Mac n cheese, and green beans. I loved every bite! I felt prices were reasonable, portions were good, and the bread, pickles and bbq sauce it comes with were so good! Everyone was happy, though my friend didn't love her brisket. I would come back!!

Sunday, 5-31-2026: We visited Canyon Lake to see my husband's parents former lake house and where my mother-in-law lovingly babysat my daughter as a toddler. Lots of family memories here. Our daughter found this BBQ and wanted to try it out. We drove up & it's not fancy but the smell of delicious BBQ hit us as we got out of the car so we knew it was promising! We pored over the menu and I decided on a sausage sandwich with Mac 'n Cheese. You order at the counter and food is brought out. The rustic interior was clean and we easily found a table. It wasn't too long before we all received our meals. We all agreed this was great BBQ! My sausage had a bit of heat but it was tasty! The Mac 'n Cheese was rich & savory. We loved the BBQ sauce. Our grandson claimed his chicken strips & fries were the best he ever had & this kid does not lie! Everything was so good! As we were leaving I spoke to one of the owners to let him know we really enjoyed the BBQ & asked if I could take a photo. He said Tracy was in the back & I asked if she could also pose for a snapshot. They sweetly obliged me. I told him we were from CA but hubby's parents used to live in Canyon Lake. Staying in the Canyon Lake area, we wanted to have some authentic barbecue before we leave tomorrow. If you're like us, you will really enjoy this spot. My choice of two meats and two sides were absolutely traffic. Sausage was a little spicy and delicious and the burnt ends delectable! My wife really enjoys her brisket. Wow....the Best! The brisket baked potatoes are amazing and I tried the yam brisket for the first time and it was excellent! I always look forward to getting something from this BBQ place. Always friendly, owners always on property and I have never been where they didn't hand deliver our food, personally thank us and welcome us back and expend thanks on departure. Past this, building is spotless. Rodeo fans obviously welcome as they subscribe to the cowboy channel on TV along with other sport channels. Probably ought to be an Aggie. We picked up brisket, burnt ends, pork ribs, mac and cheese and cucumber salad. The staff was patient and took time to explain some differences between Texas and North Carolina bbq. The sauce was light, and flavorful. The consistency suited the meat perfectly. White Mac and cheese was solid as well. read more

Let's be real: this IS the epitome of TX barbecue. Bare Bull has been here for over a decade and has served the rural area it's in VERY well--no, it's not the fancy, curated menus from Leroy & Lewis or Interstellar in Austin. But they do good, simple BBQ. The brisket is fatty and the rub they use has so much flavor, their pea salad is delicious, the ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender, and the mac n cheese!!! so so so good!!! Those working are also very kind people. I ordered a beef rib ahead of time--half pound, i think--and that thing was INCREDIBLE. Everything is always good,the Brisket is always moist and great flavor, we tried the sausage and peppers as a side today. I could do that as a meal. My wife chose the pea salad , now she's trying to figure out how to make it at home. So she likes it . Service was great as always. It's out of the way but worth the drive. Depending where you live. The food is awesome, I had the brisket tacos, very good. The service was fast and friendly. It's kind of small but just a couple steps away a larger seating area so it can accommodate a good size group if needed. Overall it's worth it. read more

Best Brisket we have ever tasted. REALLY! 10 stars if I could! The sliced brisket, burnt ends and cheddar jalapeño sausage were, WOW!!! Great potato salad and my boyfriend enjoyed the beet salad and coleslaw as well. Very generous portions. The owner was awesome and you could really tell that he was proud of his business, and so he should be. Really great experience!!!!! Saw a baked potato go by and had to go visit it at another table. Still the best BBQ at the lake, hands down. Took our out of town family here to experience Texas BBQ and they didn't disappoint. Damn Good BBQ!! A lil shocked to be honest (no offense to Bare Bull) for the area as there aren't a lot of restaurants South of the Lake. But yeah, we've been there a couple of times now. I didn't know when I ordered, but I noticed that it's more expensive than ordering one meat plate (which comes with one type of meat and two sides). I wished they could be kind enough to tell me. Left NB for a Sunday drive and stopped here for supper. So glad we did! Big selection on the menu so I asked the young man* at the counter what was most popular. We went with the Big D sandwich with a side of roasted potatoes. Huge portions (we might split one next time...and there will be a next time). Brisket so tender, delicious sausage and sauce. Wow I know we're in TX but this is some top notch BBQ! Better than I can do and I can Que ! I ordered uber eats and didn't expect this good for delivery. Ive gone to restaurants before and the meat is dry not to temp to let fats run. I didn't have to heat it up brisket and ribs were perfect. Wish the side of sauce i ordered was larger but maybe they're point is you dont need it. Because you dont ! Better than Blacks and better than the last place in Austin I went to. Next time I have a bbq party I will cater from here. I've tried the other local bbq places here this one is at the top. If its that good delivered im sold. I have high standards with food. Meet the Business Owner: Tracy B.

Tracy started her professional career in real estate investment and marketing. Her parents are celebrating their 25th anniversary in the restaurant business, so she grew up knowing the hard work and dedication it takes to run a successful restaurant. After meeting pit master, Allan Miller, she found the perfect location in beautiful Canyon Lake , TX She remodeled the existing building, built the smokehouse and Bare Bull BBQ opened its doors on February 13, 2016 to a wonderful reception!

I also loved that they have fresh baked breads and desserts, as well as sandwiches to order to go (didn't try any on this visit, but they looked excellent online!). I did pick up a bit of their jalapeño beef jerky which wasn't super tough like jerky sometimes is and also was super salty, which was appreciated. The staff seemed friendly and ready to help. Across from the store is a bbq spot with seating and I'll be sure to visit there on my next visit. The ONLY reason why I couldn't give a 5-star review this time is I had a very hard time finding the prices on a number of items (especially in their freezer/refrigerated sections). It made it a bit inconvenient and I didn't want to keep going up to the counter to check the costs each time. Other than that, I'd highly recommend a visit!

Avoid this "restaurant" at all costs or risk wasting 50.00 for a bag of hot garbage food. We're having to make our own eggs to add to our tacos because some idiot wrapped 5 tacos with bacon only. Who tf orders 5 bacon only tacos? That's it, bacon and tortilla. Absolutely ridiculous.

10/10 would recommend to family member or a friend the meat is amazing and their chili is out of this world definitely THE BEST BBQ in canyon lake maybe even Texas just wanted to share my thoughts on this place read more

Simply put ..... it doesn't get any better than this. Portions/variety/taste all tops. Owners/staff are great. They invited me to their Thanksgiving Dinner at the store .....Whoa! read more

Been there many times and always excellent. Best brisket I've ever ate. This is the only place to come for great food and service.
