The food was great, the service was fast, the restaurant was clean, and the staff was very friendly. Overall, it was a great experience.

Our Local Go To for Brisket Every Time Black's BBQ in New Braunfels is our local go to spot. It is a quick drive from home, and their brisket keeps us coming back. We always order a mix of regular and a little lean for me, and both are consistently tender and flavorful. The sausage is ok, but the turkey on the rare occasions we get it is delicious and moist. For sides, we love Norma Jean's beans, green beans, and slaw. They are reliable and always hit the spot. One thing I discovered is that if I reheat the brisket in my Breville oven on the warm setting, it comes out tasting just like it did the day we ordered it. Desserts are sometimes a thing for us. The peach cobbler and banana pudding can be good, but they are not always consistent. Side note. I still do not know what to think about their family rival, Terry Black's BBQ building right next door. It is a cool vibe overall, and if you catch it at the right time, they even have musical events which makes the visit even better. read more

I stopped at Black's Barbecue in New Braunfels expecting great Texas barbecue, but my experience was mixed. The biggest issue was the brisket, which was much fattier than I prefer. While some fat is expected and adds flavor, there was enough of it that I found myself trimming quite a bit off before eating. The food wasn't bad, and I can see why many people enjoy it, but it didn't stand out compared to other barbecue places I've visited. Given the reputation, I was hoping for a better balance of meat and fat and a more memorable meal overall. That said, the service was good, and the restaurant has the classic Texas barbecue atmosphere many visitors are looking for. Super moist brisket! Service and atmosphere: All staff members were polite and friendly. The restaurant was very organised, clean and spacious. They offer many seating arrangements. Food: This was by far the best fatty brisket we have ever had, and we went to a few award winning bbq places. The brisket simply melted in your mouth. The seasoning was spot on too. The beef rib was really good as well. The side dishes were good but coleslaw and mixed beans were a bit too sweet for my liking. Pricing: $$ - $33 per pound of meat. We were on another driving adventure and found ourselves in San Marcus, it was lunch time and we were very hungry! Time to find some BBQ in Texas. So I did what I love to do when traveling, I asked a stranger on the street if he knew a good BBQ place nearby. This is Texas, people are friendly and we all eat BBQ. He said we must eat at The Original Blacks Barbecue. Lucky for us it was just around the corner. We ordered 1lbs of moist brisket and a pound of spare ribs, our sides were potato salad and coleslaw. We loved it all. The brisket was so tender, with loads of flavor. Our ribs were juicy and the meat came off the bone with a nice easy bite. I loved both the potato salad and coleslaw. The restaurant has a large typical BBQ family style seating with wood picnic tables throughout. Ordering is cafeteria style with Self serve drinks, utensils and condiments. One of the things we liked was their hours are normal with lots of food to keep going all day. So many places only stay open until they run out of food and close by 11am. Not Blacks! This place is very cool! First of all it's very Texas BBQ in my opinion. There is plenty of parking and lots of bench family style indoor seating. The bathrooms were clean and they have a nice washing station for any food mess you make. They have a condiments table with pickles, onion, bread salt and pepper. They have an awesome drink station with homemade sweet tea and un-sweetened tea. They have Coke products. You order in line and then find your own seat. We had the ribs, sausage, and fatty biscuit. I loved the huge rib. It how ever did have a good amount of fat. We also got creamed corn and potato salad. They were out of Mac and cheese but said they would have more in 30 min. Still absolutely one of my favorite bbq on the planet! The beef rib is certainly worth the pilgrimage for me when I'm visiting San Antonio. That smoky, peppery, salty bark coupled with the tender and beautifully marbled beef rib is heaven on a plate. Brisket is a second favorite, though sometimes the fatty cut is not even as fatty as I would prefer it lol. I tried her sausage for the first time and it did boy disappoint. For the uninitiated, you walk up and order your sides (I've had the mac and it's good), then you go and get your meat from the nice people on the other counter who'll cut and slice as much or as little meat as you'd like. There's a self serve bar where you can grab pickles and white bread and onions. Sauces are on the table. Sodas and teas are self serve as well. People here are friendly and nice, always ready to help. The inside has a nice rustic modern barn feel to it. Very spacious with long benches and booths everywhere. I wished I lived nearby...I'd come here all the time! Can't wait to come back! read more

I love Barbecue so I was excited to try one of the most famous Barbecue spots around! Black's Barbecue in New Braunfels did it all right! They have such a cool atmosphere with tons of space, the dining area is very clean and has well stocked fixings bar. Their process for ordering and their service is efficient, they have obviously handled larger crowds than on the day I visited. The barbecue is obviously what has made them famous. This was by far the best brisket I have had and the sausage was cooked to perfection as well. They have so many wonderful sides to choose from, my favorite was the creamed corn. The potato salad was delicious as well and both complimented our meal. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!!! I was so impressed and can't wait to go back! read more

Pinto beans were the best. Dill pickled were great- very dill. Brisket, sausage and chicken dark quarter were darn good too. Unfortunately, they ran out of pork ribs early. We certainly got our fill and nothing was over smoked. Service was efficient and courteous. Ambience was pretty informal. It was clean but nothing fancy. I came here while visiting because I was told it's the real deal for Texas BBQ. The brisket was extremely tender, the ribs weren't "fall off the bone" but still had a great texture. The pork belly was underwhelming - I didn't finish it because it felt like uncooked thick cut bacon. The turkey was average. One aspect I didn't like was that the only seasoning was black pepper. The meat couldn't stand alone without sauce. Luckily their chipotle mustard bbq sauce was amazing. The brisket saved this place for me, but overall I'm not convinced Texas bbq is best, if this was the real deal. The line was wrapped around the building when I showed up. Luckily you can order to-go online, if you don't need to to sit. It only took about 10 minutes once I ordered, compared to people waiting 30-45 minutes just to sit. Was disappointed with the potato salad and side options. It's not a traditional restaurant it's more like a Togo place that also has dinning tables. I felt extremely rushed at the sides counter. No smile from server no eye contact just an "anything else.".. then the meat is already later out in big chunks in a wood slab and they cut it according to your order, so don't expect hot meat because it's just sitting there waiting for people to order. So I don't think I will ask for this place by name, next time I come to Texas. Over-all the food was good, but kind of forgettable. I tried a little bit of a few items. Chicken, ribs, brisket were tasty, brisket was fairly good. The greens beens were tasty but became unbearable after a few bites because they were so salty. The customer service was pretty good and the staff is attentive in keeping the tables cleared. Took a road trip from San Antonio and decided to stop at Black's. We walked in and the smell was amazing. We started with the sides and got pinto beans, coleslaw, potato salad and mac and cheese. First interaction at counter was good- young man serving sides. But the cashier was very unenthusiastic about being there. The brisket was dry, sausage tasted old. I don't usually eat Texas barbecue but when in Texas I have to and let me tell you Black's Barbecue did not disappoint! We got the fatty beef brisket, jalapeno-cheese sausage and pork spare ribs to share. Everything was soo tender, juicy and just so good! For sides we got the potato salad, mac and cheese and cream corn. The sides went perfectly with the meat. I also love how you can grab your own onions, pickles and bread because I'm an onion girlie and need a whole lot haha. The workers were very welcoming and friendly and it's a big place with a nice and chill vibe. The original Blacks bbq is very good. Now I have to say that on the bigger bbq kings scale Terry Blacks is just so much better. But if you are in New Braunsfels and have a hankering for Texas BBQ. The original Blacks (now owned btly the uncle) is good. For chain bbq is would go with Rudy's over original Blacks. And Terry's over both. Anyway Original Blacks is good bbq, they offer one type of sauce which I find to be a bit vingery. They have all the normal sides but oddly no jalepenos whi h should be a crime in Texas. The cream corn is good but Terry's is just better. For bbq Original Blacks is good bbq. Like most Texas bbq joints it is the order at the main cashier, receive food and self serve the rest of the way. The bathrooms could use a good solid cleaning and some maintenance as well.
