Record Room is my favorite. Nothing fancy, just good prices for vinyl. They are always getting new stock, so I have to go there every month. I wish I could go more often. John and Phil go beyond what I expect in customer service. I have been to many other record stores in the PHX area and have had very disappointing CS. They are so knowledgeable about vinyl and know their stock. And you never know what you will find in the $1 bins. I have found many gems. Go there and see for yourself. Love the variety of genres in the Record Room. I love all types of music, but I rarely see a wide selection of Punk at most record store I go to in Phoenix. Close to my house as well, which is gnarly. Friendly staff and knowledgeable on music. Love the music taste that is played at the Record Room as well. There is also a section for T-Shirts that I have not checked out yet, but looks like I will check it soon when I stop by. Majority of the records I pick up are always in great condition. I went to Record Room a few times during work-related trips to Scottsdale, and it's definitely one of the things I like most in the area. Their selection isn't enormous since it's not a very big place, but what they do have is in amazingly good condition and affordably priced. I got a lot of great records here, and they'll conveniently ship them for you very cheaply, so I didn't have to worry about taking them on the plane. The staff are low-key but friendly, and generally allow you to browse at your leisure without stalking you or constantly asking if you need help finding anything. I don't buy records or own a record player. But I bought a t-shirt here a while back. It was incredibly soft and comfortable (and it still is). Even though the whole vinyl thing has become supercool, the spirit of this little shop is as pure as it gets. Great selection of new and used vinyl and a knowledgeable staff. Best of all is the fair and affordable pricing. As I mentioned before, with vinyl being so in vogue, prices have been going up and up but Record Room is redeeming in its value pricing. Its the little shops like these that make hunting for records a lot of fun. And although I've been doing it for years and worked for both Tower Records and Zia outlets, I've been reminded of the cardinal rule for shopping in today's modern age with records available online: You gotta be patient. I dig how small this place is. I felt super comfortable sitting on the floor and digging through the bargain bins. Everything is priced well. They had a decent selection for being a small shop, and when I asked about a specific artist, they recommended I follow them on Facebook, where they would absolutely list any of his albums they got it. Excellent spot. Three 45's for $1, large patio outside with $1 records wall to wall. Great titles in jazz, rock and soul in very good condition for prices much less than what you'd fnd in california. Owner was cool, allowed me to use my portable turntaable and threw on 3 feet high & rising for good measure. I also found Tom Tom Club's Genius Of Love 12" long version, super clean for $1 in the new arrivals among many other treats. Please support this business. read more

I don't get to Scottsdale very often but what a find The Record Room is! A real record store in downtown across the street from the Fashion Square. I drove up; parked right outside and spent a while browsing the great selection of new and used vinyl and CDs - some real treats; fair prices and a nice surprise at the end when I got a discount because some of the records were on offer and I didn't realise. There are a lot of great things about this place. Super helpful staff; very easy to approach about any question. There isn't a listening station set up, but one of the staff members stopped the record that was playing in the shop and put the record on that I wanted to preview. Out back is 3 records for $1 (and its not just your usual Christmas/Sing-a-long with Mitch albums) where you can get anything from ABBA to Zappa for an incredible deal. Great store with a fine selection. Excellent prices and careful vinyl grading so that you always know what you're getting. I've purchased some $3 records there that have played perfectly: like Nick Lowe's Labour of Lust and Graham Parkers Howling Wind. Give a call first to make sure that Brent is working there. He's the heart and soul of the place and my favorite record store guy (even though he hates the Beatles). The Record Room knows how to treat their regular customers. Visiting the area, and saw this place as its not too far from my hotel. Decided to stop in and check it out. It's small, mostly used inventory, though there is a section of all new releases. Good rock, 80s, and jazz sections. The clerk was busy reorganizing, but still was able to recognize and greet us, as well as answer all our questions. Had some nice finds (Frank Zappa - Hot Rats!). Ultimately, I felt welcome and had fun digging. If I was a local, I'd be checking this place out regularly. I'll be sure to check in next time in the area. read more

Walked in a 5:45, saw sign on door closing at 6. Was visiting from out of town - 15 minutes not nearly enough time to feed my vinyl obsession. I asked how much time I had: Manager's response: Take all the time you want, this is a record store, no worries. He stayed until 7, never a complaint, never a push to leave, all the while playing some vinyl that I asked to hear before purchasing. Oh, and the selection - fantastic. Hard to find, great condition, very reasonable prices, don't be fooled by the small store size, it has more than stores 3-4 times its size. I make a habit of visiting records stores when I travel, have been to a lot - this one is at the top of the list. The Record Room is golden. read more

My sisyphean ordeal successfully ended here today. I spent a full Saturday searching all of phoenix for a stereo receiver that would work with my equipment. Pretty much everyone I encountered was indifferent and unhelpful. As I sat on my bed utterly defeated, a glimmer of hope emerged. Enter the Record Room. I had been here a couple of years ago and remembered it being a pretty cool place. So I called and spoke with the owner who seemed genuinely concerned and extremely helpful. He had one receiver and it was only twenty bucks. Could it be?? I was worried it wouldn't work but he assured me if it didn't I could return it. Sold! I purchase the beast, my boyfriend hooks it up and out comes pure joy. My dreams came true! Super affordable and it works with my antiquated record player and tape deck. I found this gem about 2 years ago when I moved to AZ. I'm a huge collector of vinyl and live about 45 mins away, and will still ONLY buy my vinyls here. The staff is super nice and very knowledgable, particularly Brent, because of him and their rare selection of records you won't find anywhere else, and makes ZIA look like a joke. This is one of the best record stores of all time. If you are a true collector, you will love this store. They carry every genre from punk to reggae and funk and there always super cheap, interesting historically relevant buys. The owner and the main employee recognize you on a daily basis and give you the best customer service imaginable - if you want to hear a record, ask why it's priced a certain way, or just talk about it, etc. And the prices are consistently unbelievably low. You might think certain records are too much money to ever have in its original format, etc, but not at the record room. They put the power back into the listener's hands, and after going time and time again to this store, I have never walked out disappointed. read more

can you believe this store is in old town scottsdale? super cool collection with some rare killed by death-type prize punk 45's, garage stuff, psych, soul and r&b, all kindsa cool gems. guy collects stuff that's right up my alley, even cool books and fliers, etc. i'm gonna be patronizing quite a bit when i'm in the valley. super nice guy too! arizona needs more stuff like this and i encourage everyone to check it out and buy some stuff and be grateful that this exists here. read more
