The cleaning lady told me the maintenance would check into it - however second night the yellow stuff formed again on the top of the water! Weird & Yucky! Otherwise convenient location next to Mingo County courthouse & parking is across street included in your room cost! Good people & recommendation high! Enjoy a nice sleep! Ask for a room by 2nd street though the train and traffic all night will keep you awake during the night on the back side!

The HVAC was being worked on while we stayed there so it was pretty hot in the main areas, but glad they are updating it. Dee at the front desk was incredible - she was so friendly and helped with all of our booking and switching cards etc. The breakfast was good, all the staff we encountered was friendly and very responsive. Rooms are pretty basic and could be updated, but for our needs were fine. They had local WV products for toiletries which I thought was cool. They also have a GREAT gift shop, I never buy from hotel gift shops, but this one had so many great unique finds, I had to get some. The indoor pool room was insanely hot - not sure if that was due to the HVAC being out or they just keep it at that temp, but that would be the only con for me. It was kind of unbearable to sit and watch the kids swim. Didn't seem to bother the swimmers at all though. I loved that they were pet friendly and we were able to bring our dog with us. It was only $40 for the whole stay rather than per night. They had a dedicated pet area very close to the room for us to take him out. Would stay here again.

The curtains and lampshades were stained and the whole room smelled all strongly of cigarette smoke that we had to go buy a candle because it gave me a headache. And when we woke up, there was a roach that had gotten stuck on it's back in the ashtray. The high reviews on this motel are 100% fake. I asked a city worker and they said they get a lot of calls to this place- just get a tent and save yourself the trauma of this horror hiuse.

I don't know how this place was given five stars but now knowing that area, I would either stay at the Hampton Inn or drive 30 minutes to a Marriott. They came by every day to check up on us, see if we needed anything, and make sure we were taken care of. It reminded me of staying at a good friend's house. Walter went above and beyond to make sure our stay went well and even took time out of his day to hop in his truck and haul one of our broke down 4wheelers off the trail in the middle of nowhere. After we wrapped up our weekend, we used the pressure washer on site and cleaned up the bikes and prepped to return home. I'd definitely recommend Open Trail Lodging. You cant beat that kind of service and hospitality and I will be coming back to stay on my next visit!

Decided on a last minute trip to the Hatfield McCoy trails and this campground was recommended by…read moreanother that was full for my dates. I couldn't be happier! I was so pleased with this campground. 3 people in my party used the bathhouse/showers and raved that they were the cleanest they have ever seen. We stayed in a full hookup RV site and the site was very level. Used only 1 leveler on one side of our travel trailer. We had a 38 foot travel trailer, tow vehicle, 2 SXS, trailer and another tow vehicle with plenty of space. Behind our site was a flowing creek/river, and we were able to open the back window in our bunkhouse to have a nice view. The owners are exceptional and so pleasant. They keep everything maintained and are beyond helpful. Approachable, friendly and always willing to help! I would absolutely recommend this place and will return to this same campground. Access to the trails was very convenient and just over 1/4 mile from the grounds. Both Rockhouse and Buffalo Mountain can be accessed via Devil Anse trail. Very convenient!

I have stayed here 4 times now and is my go to for my rental. Last time in 2016 I stayed I let Marty know next time I show I'd be with my family which I did. They also enjoyed the stay and the fun we had on the trails. Thank you Marty and Lisa for all that you do. Can't wait to be back
