Ordered the biscuits & gravy, hash & pork belly benedict. The pork belly was bland and soggy, I was hoping for a crispy crust and flavor. Great place for brunch! We got the French toast and pork belly Benedict. French toast bread was a bit dense but it was good, per my 12yo. Pork belly Benedict was great. Great flavors. Hubs got a breakfast sando but I didn't get a pic. It comes with lettuce or greens that wasn't listed on the menu so beware if you're a picky eater! Even though they were busy, the servers checked in on us often and made sure we weren't missing anything. We went at 10ish on a Sunday and had to wait about 10 mins. I'm happy that they are busy! Had a great brunch over with the good people at Reef. I really appreciated their breakfast menu. Lots of different things to choose from. The maple donut with bacon topping was a nice surprise. They really know how cook pork belly. The katsu chicken fried steak was the star. The sausage gravy played so well with it. Seasoned to perfection lots of bold flavors. Definitely different than previous Chicken fried steaks. They also make their own jam for the English muffins or toast that was pretty impressive as well. I was a little disappointed when initially not seeing a ton of vegan options, but the kitchen and server worked with us, made the kids' rice vegan and the magic mushroom burger was so good. You'd think they would be packed on a Sunday AM! Not the case this Sunday. Took quite a while to get our order in the queue for no apparent reason. Ordered two Benedicts (veggie and pork). The hollandaise on both was watery and odd. The potatoes were so fried that there wasn't much substance left. We had more fried potato skins than anything. No more malasadas? Bummer.. I get it. Today was visit number 4 to The Reef as it is quickly becoming a regular visit. The overall experience continues to be excellent. Having had multiple servers during my dining experiences, it has not mattered as the level of service has been welcoming and top notch. The remodel of this longstanding business is clean, interesting and maintains the diner vibe that is loved by many. Now to the food. Having tried multiples items on the menu from the wings to the fried rice and more, nothing has disappointed. The portions are appropriate. The flavors are delicious and the multiple influences on the menu provide a lot of variety on what is a smaller menu (not a bad thing). I wanted to make sure that my review was warranted and thus multiple visits before writing. From what I can tell there is no nod to the old Reef. The menu looks like every other menu in Olympia. A mix of food that doesn't really belong together and prices that are high. Not sure who pays $18 for a breakfast burrito or $17 for a basic plate of eggs, hash browns and protein, but I won't. Unsure how the menu is Pacific Northwest. First off KUDOS to the new ownership for the beautiful makeover and simplicity of the decor. The addition of plants and the mollusk mural is a great homage to our wonderful location here in the south sound. We were greeted immediately and sat at one of the two remaining tables by our server Bethy. She had a great personality and was attentive throughout our meal. We specifically went down for breakfast and enjoyed the Katsu CFS with sausage gravy (frickin amazing!!!) and the Pork Belly Beney which both did not disappoint. Everything was fresh and homemade which elevated the overall flavor. These people are doing it right. The only drawback was the 35 min wait for our order to arrive but it was worth in the end. I waited right at the front door when I entered, there were people seated, I was anxious to try out the 'New' Reef, which in my opinion 'the owners destroyed. The mushroom burger was good for one bite and then it got mushy very fast and didn't taste good. So yucky! People are nice but didn't get napkins or silverware until after we got our food? Like after she walked away and we asked for sauce lol. Had to wonder around to find the bathroom because I waited for a few minutes to ask but there wasn't anybody up front for a bit. A+ for Saturday breakfast/brunch. My husband and I dashed through the rain to The Reef for late breakfast/early lunch. And what a good decision! We give it an A+. The place cleaned up nice (first point) with the ownership change. And the staff was friendly and helpful (second point). Now the food: I ordered the eggs (sunny-side up) with potatoes and English Muffin. Husband had the similar plate (scrambled eggs) but with sausage. Our finding: WOW! My sunny-side up eggs were perfect. His scrambled were terrific. The potatoes were the best I've ever had - crispy and hot and light. How did they do that? The English Muffin was outstanding. Crispy around the outside edges, yeasty and hot. And that bacon. OMG. I know restaurants can and do get and buy the best bacon that's for sale. And The Reef did so. I lived in Korea for a year, and the food there was amazing. I saw that this establishment reopened and offered a breakfast kimchi fried rice, so I figured I'd try them out. That dish was impressively tasty, which given my experienced Korean flavor palette, is impressive. I would definitely recommend the establishment and that particular dish. Our late night menu food was burnt, and the spicy chicken nuggets tasted like the chicken nuggets were cooked in the same oil as fish. The chicken nuggets tasted like weird fish sticks. The cheese (I think that was what it was supposed to be?) that came with the carne fries was a black brick and ended up making the person who ate it sick. The kimchi bowl was acceptable for late night food. I get that late night food isn't supposed to be the best, but it shouldn't make you sick or leave you with 80% of the plate full. read more

The pork belly taco and spicy cranberry margarita were delicious but the burger was marginally better than a McDonald's cheeseburger. So I was a big fan of the old reef. I wanted to support the business so we went out to lunch recently to try the new menu. To say that I was blown away would be an understatement. The food is incredible, especially the fried chicken sandwich. I dream of this now. The inside has been updated to reflect the new menu; gone are the weird collection of decorations, but instead there is an elegance, while still nodding to its origins. And our waitress was awesome, she took a picture of us celebrating a birthday. 10/10 will go back! read more

I used to come to King Solomon's Reef every week for Breakfast. I loved it. I was genuinely happy to see them opening up the Reef. I saw them loading supplies into it. I talked to one of the workers as they went in for their first day of work. I went in there this morning and liked the ambience of the restaurant. Subtle changes. The wait staff are a happy lot. I was happy to be there. They gave me the menu and my heart sank. It was very limited and really artsy instead of traditional breakfast. My go to Ham and Cheese omelet wasn't there. I saw no hash browns. I saw my number two option. French Toast. I ordered that. It came out in a bowl. It was really dark 3 3"X3" cakes. It looked like no other French Toast I had ever had. I cut a piece of with my fork. and it was purple and grainy. The flavor was not good, but bland. I was really hungry, and I tried to like it, but each bite was harder to eat. I made it through 2 out of 3 pieces and couldn't do any more. The side of bacon was good though. I appreciated (Loryn?) leaving me alone and filling my water a few times. I was very quiet while I was there as I was sad for what I lost. Food was 1 star. Service was 5. read more
