Captain Dave took my family and I out for an afternoon trip. None of us had any experience fishing but he and first mate Ron had us reeling in fish like seasoned fishermen in minutes. We caught so many fish in 4.5 hours we were having to take breaks due to exhaustion from fighting the whoppers we were reeling in. We limited out on Red Snapper in no time and caught Mahi and other types as well, 135 lbs of fish total. All of this was done on an afternoon when other boats were bringing in far fewer fish...they were staring at our bounty in awe as Captain Dave was hanging the fish on the board to take a picture for us. For seasoned veterans or beginners like us I couldn't recommend Reel Contenders any higher. We will definitely be going out with Captain Dave on our next trip back to Panama City!! read more

Captain David and his first mate were the "REEL DEAL" They took a group of 4 us out a good 25-30 miles off-shore to the point where you can't see the high rise condos anymore. Captain really knew the spots. We would drop our lines to the bottom and would be reeling the line back in in less than 15 seconds. We caught over 100 fish (with 75% being in season and large enough) in a half day excursion. Great first mate Steve as well - we highly recommend them! read more

Absolutely fantastic experience. Captain Dave knows where to go, his deckhand Joe sets you up, and the experience is amazing. Everything easy except for reeling in all the fish. The captain's boat is quick too, so our 6 hour trip only involved less than 2 hours of travel. Most other places you'll spend 2 hours just getting to 1 spot. Great experience, the only regret is not coming during snapper season, we caught some monsters but had to let them go. Thank you Captain Dave and Joe. Simply amazing. Captain David delivered on all promises at a price that was hard to beat. Easy to set up and there is no deposit (at least with our trip). His view was that he did not want to feel to 'forced' to go out if the weather was questionable...I agree. We set out in the morning for our 4 hour tour. Our drop in the water and we had two on simultaneously. This went on for 4 hours. Simply amazing. Nothing required except maybe some drinks, hat, sun screen and a sense of fun. The Captain and his first mate made us feel welcome and even when we did something stupid, helped us and took no digs at us even though it was our first time ocean fishing. He provided bait, licenses, rods/reels, and all the fishing holes you could imagine. After, his first mate cleaned the fish, packed them in our coolers, gave us some advice as to how to prepare a few of the types of fish and we were on our way. This was amazing. A friend and I took our sons out for their first deep sea fishing trip. Weather was questionable all week. Captain Dave is not pushy. He wants you to have a great time and be safe. Says you just can't do that in bad weather. We took a chance and went. The fishing was great. I bet the kids caught 50 fish between them. Some white snapper, undersized ambers, and some red snapper. The weather got bad in a hurry so had to cut it short, but a great time was had by all. Captain Dave and his mate are truly an honest and professional team to fish with. Captain Dave and Ron were absolutely the best and put us on the fish! We caught our limit of trigger fish within thirty minutes of arriving to our first stop! Then we moved around a little and continued to catch more fish! Ron was great with the two twelve year olds on our trip and was very patient with our crossed lines and was extremely helpful.
