This is a tough place to review... 5 STARS... based on selection and their knowledge of their inventory 3 STARS... based on the customer service of the employees. I've been here more times than I can remember and have never been let down in finding what I need (including items that can be incredibly hard to find at common stores like Bed Bath and Beyond or the Kitchen Department at Macy's). But I tend to search the store for what I need rather than inquire because most of the time the staff has attitude of being too busy (even though the store is never busy). Why can't I get your full attention? Why can't the staff be more welcoming? I just don't get it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a retail store; don't make me feel unwelcome. An odd feeling to have when visiting a retail establishment. Don't get me wrong, I truly love this store; I just wish the mood was consistently positive and not "hit or miss". PS very interesting mens room.... the urinal was filled with pebbles and has a porcelain frog and fake plants in it... it's funny and odd at the same time.... I just want to know if I am supposed to pee on it still (GUARANTEE PEOPLE HAVE). read more

What a fantastic find! Love this place. It's way more than a restaurant supply store. It's a bakery, wine shop, and sandwich shop too. Daily specials with the freshest food we've had in Key West, and we come every year. Don't just drive by and assume it's just giant pots and chef's knives. You tell me what you need for your kitchen and I bet Restaurant Store has it. The first time I came was because someone told me I had to see this place since they knew how much I love to cook. Plus I am always looking to replace some of the junky stuff I have in my kitchen like my cooking utensils. After the first visit I was so addicted to visit every time I thought of something I need. I replaced all my crappy utensils with a matching stuff from a good line of tools they carry plus a few other things for the kitchen. And it's not just regular kitchen supply; they carry a lot of commercial cooking supplies and even though it's overkill for consumer use I still bought a couple things for home that were more commercial stuff. And if the kitchen supply wasn't enough, they also have a bread bakery store too. It's all very good stuff but it's also very expensive. read more

I've been in this restaurant supply store several times, it has a nice selection and it's very clean and organized - I am somewhat puzzled also that I've never had a conversation with any of the staff except for a few words as I checked out my purchases - I will continue to come here I'm sure but somewhat amazed that the staff doesn't interact with the customers unless the customer has a question and started the conversation - not saying it's anything bad just strange gives me the feeling the owner is little pretentious or shy either way the business model seems to work so I'm okay with it if they are... read more

The Restaurant Store hosts various specialty cooking seminars right in the store itself after business hours. This review is specific to the Caponata & Mozzarella Seminar with Mozzarella Mark of Key West. Cost: $40 - includes Prosecco, wine and tastings of the culinary delights prepared. This was my first visit to The Restaurant Store for a seminar and I absolutely loved it. It was a great time and I look forward to going again. There are tables set up with chairs facing a cooking station for everyone to see. The tables are all nicely set up and felt very rustic and homey. For this visit everyone received at their seats a complimentary fresh mozzarella ball along with recipes and some background information. Baskets of crostini drizzled with a quality extra virgin olive oil where set between the guests to enjoy along with the samplings being prepared. The hostess and main orchestrater of the event, Shani, buzzed about to make sure everyone was taken care of and happy. Prosecco and white & red wines (in a plastic cup) were offered along with water. As you watched the interactive demonstration, Shani wasted no time in making sure that everyone received refills as well as samplings of the different dishes Mozzarella Mark and the second station chef where whipping up. It was delightful! As Mozzarella Mark went through the entire process of making the mozzarella, everyone was able to go up to the large vat, put on plastic gloves, and learn first hand about the chemistry and artistry involved in the process. As the different demonstrations went on, the second chef prepared different mozzarella appetizers which Shani ensured everyone received a sampling of. Next up was the caponata demonstration. Mozzarella Mark went through the entire process explaining the steps. Once prepared Shani passed out generous portions to each person to enjoy. IT WAS AWESOME! Always great for quirky gifts and kitchen gadgets. I needed long spoons for root beer floats... in the south they are referred to as Iced Tea Spoons. I asked initially for sundae / float spoons. Blank stare. Then I called them iced tea spoons and was directed towards them right away. $1 per spoon. Very reasonable prices. I try not to let myself wander through the store because I know I will want 30 pounds of kitchen gadgets i'd have to mail home or bring home in my luggage. The people who run the store are fabulous and always very helpful! read more

Absolutely awful! We bought an Egg grill and accessory shelf 2 weeks ago. No phone call, no contact whatsoever from them regarding their missed promised delivery date. No nothing. Cathy was very very rude when I called today to check on delivery -- again, 2 weeks past promised date. I will go tomorrow to get my money back. They aren't the only ones who sell the Egg. I wish the manufacturer knew what horrible representation they have. Key West-- you deserve much much better. read more

They had what I needed for my kitchen. Yay! Decided to try lunch...yum! Food was fresh and portions were generous. The sandwich bread was delicious. The baguette was perfectly made. We will be back! read more

Loved this store. A combination cook store and bakery. I did not partake of the bakery but there was an interesting suppy of commercial and non cooking apparatus. Some pots but not so much. I was able to find a China cap and fairly large whisk. Pretty cool in this area. There is not a lot of choice for cook tools. They even had a giant collander like I have at home. Making gravy Doe 60 on Thanksgiving and needed some stuff. Great shop. read more

just tried to buy a gift certificate for Xmas. "they haven't delivered them yet" says owner. "maybe next week. Leave yr name & #". " but it's Dec 17" I say. I ask if they can't just create something and print themselves. "We don't have the capability to do that" WHAT?. suddenly remembered why I don't shop there anymore. Last year just after Thanksgiving tried to buy coffee grinder. Owner "oh we're all out". followed by blase "dunno" in response to "will you be getting more in before Xmas?" That was a month after being told "we don't carry toasters" just the month before. The RESTAURANT Store. so much for shop local. so much for initiative or effort. read more

I have been coming here for a couple of months now for all of my craft beer needs while in Key West. Unless you count the Walgreen down on Duval, this place has the best selection for take-home beer on the island. This place also serves as the consumption area for the Bone Island Brewing Company, which is housed around the back of this place. The selection here is absolutely amazing. They have anything and everything. The only downside to this is that the stock doesn't rotate as often as it should. I noticed several products that were kind of old, but also several products that were freshies and new seasonals. I overheard the purchasing manager speaking with a rep and he seemed enthusiastic about the selection and having the best, newest beers on the shelf. I bought a pint of BI beer and browsed the selections on my last visit, and left with a super fresh six pack of Jai Alai. Best place on the island for take home beer, and at very reasonable prices. read more

I asked one question, and then mid sentence I was cut off with their store hours (which don't match what is posted here) and "Gotta go", click. I hope there wasn't a genuine emergency unfolding which is the only thing I can think of to excuse such poor customer service. This place looks like a warehouse from outside, but inside, you'll find an interesting version of a inslander's General Store. You'll find restaurant supplies...but so much more. The Restaurant Store is also a Bistro, Bakery, and Brewery.... Wonderful wines. Wonderful Ciabatta sandwiches that can you can have made up as salads....A couple of T-Shirts for sale. As to the bakery, you can't beat their almond bars or sticky buns...sometimes I take home a loaf of pumpkin bread.... The store occasionally offers classes in advanced culinary arts, occasional outdoor cookouts to show off The Egg outdoor grill..... As to the kitchen supplies, tools and gadgets, I think they have about anything needed in the kitchen but the kitchen sink! (or other large appliances aside from The Egg.) Candle-warmed tea pots! Mango cutters! Egg cups! Cookware, knives....Serious aprons, some waterproof! Everything here is absolutely top drawer. Staff is not intrusive, I'll put it that way...but I like shopping in peace, and can always find someone to answer my questions and point to items I can't find.,,items usually lurking right in front of my nose..... The differently wonderful Strunk Ace hardware store is next door, around the corner, sharing its own separate parking lot with Manley deBoer (lumber yard.) All three businesses on this corner are personal, salt-of-the-earth olde Key West. Worth a little time, a little effort. My ThanksgivMy Thanksgiving party I was planning on having suddenly went from about eight guests to close to 20 guests. I needed some extra pots and roasting pans. With shopping being very limited in Key West I was extremely happy to have the Restaurant store in town. Quality products, great selection, knowledgeable staff, excellent prices and very friendly service. I was going to buy a new set of carving knives knives but they set me up to have my current ones sharpened and they are good as new. read more

Very cool place. Been to KW numerous times, but never went in because we don't live here. The facade and street-side indications are not easily seen. It suggests it's for commercial clients only. And holy moley !! There's an unbelievable bakery and cafe inside!!!! PLEASE do more to advertise the cafe, unless you don't want a onslaught of hungry diners. Excellent. read more

Fairly decent restaurant supply store that I would say caters more to an accomplished home cook rather than to the restaurant industry. They probably do stock everything you would need in your home kitchen in addition to oils, vinegars, salts, sauces, pickled products, and wines. read more

Stopped in for some craft beer to take home on my vacation. Had a very nice chat with everyone and had a great cup of coffee. Excellent selection and they have a small brewery inside that does flights. The people could NOT have been nicer, I will be back next time I'm in the Keys!!! read more
