I was super excited for our little family getaway after hearing great reviews and looking at all the online images. Sadly, the hotel was disappointing. The first room they gave us was tiny, not what I expected after viewing the rooms on their website. From some reason the thermostat was set to 90* and it was soooo hot in there the strawberries I bought were totally melted. The nasty part was after unloading and attempting to relax in our room, we saw fingernail clippings on the carpet, then my husband looked at the bed. There was long black hairs all over the bed and on the mattress, no mattress cover by the way, no fitted sheet; just a mattress topper. Odd, especially for what is supposed to be a nice hotel. He was grossed out by the nails and hair that we were going to ask for another room and then I noticed an old contact lens on the bedside table. Was this room even cleaned or just the bed remade by a maid who is losing her hair?! The second room they gave us, looked more like the photos - thank goodness. However, there was a broken wine glass behind the night stand and therefore only one wine glass available. Are the cleaners blind or just don't care. It was odd that my husband found a broken glass upon entry into the room but s/he didn't find it the whole time they were supposedly cleaning it and setting up for new guests?! The curtains were shredded on the edges and in the middle - large gashes across the drapes, assuming because its old, doesn't look like a single accident. A drawer from the closet was missing, the carpet was dirty our feet turned black from walking on it. The shower head had iron build-up and was mostly green. For the most part the staff was good and helpful, but the place is run down and surprisingly filthy dirty. I do not recommend Heritage House. We did not complain about all these issues, although now I wish I did. However the hotel did send me a follow survey via email asking about our stay and I mentioned all of these things and its been over a week now and no one has followed up. Beware -- pictures are not always what they seem. Stay elsewhere or get an air bnb!

The cioppino was wonderfully presented, as well as the clam chowder (rosemary present but not overwhelming, loaded with clams) and Krisp with ice cream for dessert. While I was eating my House Burger, I noticed that the steak had been slightly overcooked/burnt. When I politely commented on the issue, the employee involved responded in a disrespectful and insulting manner. He made a remark indicating that he would rather be working on a "DC" or "PC," or words to that effect, rather than addressing my concern professionally. More seriously, I also noticed that this employee took a nibble from my food. I find this behavior completely unacceptable and extremely concerning from a hygiene and food-safety standpoint. Customers should be able to trust that their food is handled appropriately and that employees will treat both their meals and their concerns with respect. The employee was a young male with dirty-blonde hair and blue eyes, and he was using his phone while working. I am providing these details solely to help management identify the employee involved. I believe this incident warrants a serious investigation. Given the inappropriate handling of my food, unprofessional conduct, and disrespectful response to my complaint, I strongly request that appropriate disciplinary action be taken. Based on the seriousness of the behavior, I believe termination should be considered. It's an actual store in Ft Bragg so if you go visit the area, definitely stop in, but you can also purchase online which is amazing for such a small Mom n'Pop shop. What is it you ask? Well basically it's a cooking store. But kind of a unique one. They do sell books and spices, jams, jellies, and all that kind of stuff, and if I recall correctly even things like spatulas, tools, bowls etc. But the real gems for me are their 'pre mixed/packaged' items. They offer a ton of these...some are branded packages from the manufacturers but some they actually mix themselves for you to buy. We're talking basically things like pre mixed dressings, just add buttermilk or sour cream or olive oil and balsamic; pre mixed soups where you just add the cream or milk and the lobster or crab for something like a crab bisque; pre-packaged cake mixes and cookie or brownie mixes where all you do is add the eggs and butter and milk or similar. Kind of like Betty Crocker but better, and many of their items also have nutritional information on it too. I have gotten a few of their pre-packaged cookie mixes and I love them...the snickerdoodles are my absolute favorites. So if you love to bake or cook and want to make things 'homemade' but maybe don't feel like spending 1/2 the day prepping something for dinner, or want to make cookies or a cake but don't want to be out mixing the flour and sugar and all that, definitely check this place out either locally or online. I plan to get a few xmas gifts there this year as well. I believe it's run by a husband and wife team. Super cute idea, I only wish that I'd have thought of it!! We'll be in Mendocino for NYE this year so I can't wait to check out this place in person again.

When we arrived it shocked me how worn out the furniture and rugs are and how there was a weird odor in the whole house. The side door cannot be locked and since the house is in the wide open land next to the highway and the gates are open I was really worried about our valuables when we drove away to see the ocean. Some of the amenities didn't work. These might be manageable for some people still. The one star is because we ended up leaving early and asked for refund, the way the owner handled the situation was shocking and rude. I never seen anything like this.

We had purchased a jam whilest visiting Mendocino Jams and Preserves. However, due to a situation beyond anyone's control, this particular individual jam needed replacement. This business put customer service and satisfaction first. Upon being aware of the situation, they immediately apologized and shipped us a replacement the next day. This is what any ordinary business would do but Mendocino Jams and Preserves is not ordinary. Not only did they ship us our replacement but they also gave us two additional jams. There is a reason why this establishment is one of the best in, I dare say, the state of California. They treasure the patrons who go out of their way to visit them.
