Literally your last chance for provisions before Highway 1 North turns inland and The Lost Coast begins. Westport is alternately quiet and quaint or isolated and creepy... it all depends on your mood and time of day that you visit. But having the Community Store available for everything from snacks to the all makings for dinner is absolutely clutch! This is exactly how I want my small coastal town convenience store to look and feel, from outside to inside. Their shelves of dry goods always have the essentials like canned beans or pasta sauces. They have a deli display with assorted cuts of beef, pork, or chicken. They have a wall of refrigerated goods from dairy and cheeses to beers and sodas. And on the occasions I've stopped for some beef jerky or beer, the proprietor has always been welcoming and friendly. Keep doing what you're doing, Westport Community Store! Cool little convenience/grocery store on the edge of the world. In far northern coastal california, up on the far north end of mendocino county. Literally in the middle of nowhere. Your last chance before leaving the coast to weave your way through the redwoods. Stopped by recently on a roadtrip through the area. A basic convenience store with more. The standards one expects but also a lot of grocery items as well, along with (expensive) fuel. We grabbed a few bottles of water and some road snacks, and oh yeah a nice selection of frozen treats are had here as well. So we all grabbed an ice cream treat and enjoyed them on the front porch while watching the ocean across the road and taking in the remoteness and rugged beauty that only exists in this unique area of the continent. 3.5 Stars - rounded up for ice cream in the middle of nowhere on the edge of the continent. 00979 read more

We love this place! The owners are always kind and helpful. We order sandwiches and pizzas to go while we shop for necessities.

Stopped here for lunch on our first visit to this area of the coast. SUCH good sandwiches at their deli!! Fresh ingredients & veggies! I got the veggie delight, and the owner gladly adjusted certain ingredients based on my preferences, and it was so tasty with this really delicious lemon aioli! We looked around the store's souvenir shelves while we waited, and the owners child played bingo with us (so sweet). Overall such a lovely experience and would definitely visit this store again when back in the area! :) read more

It's 10 months since the owners of this community store helped me BIG Time with a car breakdown (up the hill, 35 miles away). It was a rainy Sunday and I had hitch-hiked to their store. They helped with phone calls to get towing service (my cell had no service), a place to hang out (for 3 hours!), great advice, and local connections when AAA was not able to deliver. I am forever thankful! Great little store with excellent hot food, basic but quality backcountry food provisions, very good beer selection, and cool people. We're driven by this place many times since we camp here a few times a year. Never stopped in. Today, we went in a hot tip they have good pizza. They do!!!! We ordered a meat pizza and a veggie pizza. Got back to our campsite which is only a few minutes away and dug in. Amazing! Especially when you consider that you're at a local store and not a fancy pizza parlor. Kayla assisted us. She was very sweet to us out of towers and was very patient. When the pizzas were done she walked them out to us, stepped back, pulled her mask down a little so we could see the smile behind her "thank you". Thank you for the pizzas, Kayla!!! read more

We depend on this store while staying at a family home less than a mile down Highway One. The prices are a little higher, but considering that there isn't any other alternative for miles it is well worth it. The staff are always nice and welcoming. The store is well stocked and has all the necessities you need along with souvenirs for folks visiting the California coast. read more

We stop here once a month en route to Fort Bragg and Mendocino from the wilds of the north, and always appreciate the nice folks here and always have fantasies of maybe coming back for a weekend stay sometime. The shop has all your needs, including cookies. We always get a cookie or two (the oatmeal raisin are the best; I have no clue where they originate). Partner usually fills up on coffee (not really the best coffee around, it tends to have that been-sitting-and-brewing-a-long-while-flavor). If you find yourself in the tiny Mendocino County town of Westport and craving some pringles and Arbor Mist, duck into this general store to buy everything your pretty little heart desires. Ft. Bragg and Mendocino are just to the South, which is good news for you - fresh bakery bread is delivered daily. I was tempted to buy some, but we were lodging at a bed & breakfast and eating in the room is tacky. Camping nearby and need charcoal? Come here. Aching for those sugary treats you left at home in the no-no cabinet? Come here. We stepped over the dog lounging in the doorway and walked in for charcoal and out with a big bag of vacation treats. Note: Remember what you came for. We had so much fun wandering around this general store, that we actually forgot the charcoal and had to drive back along the windy Highway 1. read more

Don't bother with the deli, Over priced and minimal. The worst bagel I've ever had. It was supposed to be toasted and was cold and hard. In addition, the cream cheese was as thin as light mayo would be spread. I could barely find the smoked salmon and the hot house tomatoes took over the whole thing with it's blandness. In the small town of Westport with the population of only 299 people, I think Westport Community Store has been doing great! Their packaged food may be a little more expensive but that's because the shipping to such a small town comes with a price. Infanct they are the only store in Westport! They have a gas station too, $5 per gallon. Their shop owners barely earn any money and theyre on the verge of being bankrupt. Despite all the hardwork the owner says she loves it ere because the town has everything she needs, food, water, and shelter. She wishes for no luxuries and I think she deserves something for that. My personal favorite is their crabby patties, yes the name is from spoongebob. It is the most magical thing you'll ever taste, crab meat fresh from the sea! I love this place, and I hope more people will consider going to Westport for their vacation. read more

On our short overnight stop in this tiny town we got ourselves a burger and chicken sandwich pick nick and headed for the beach. Both were great with excellently spiced sauces. What a wonderful little store! You can get lost in the two aisles just looking at the fun stuff they offer. This little store is the heart of Westport. The residents are so grateful to have a place that is open every day and has all the basics plus plenty of special goodies that go above and beyond. Artisan salami, hand-made soaps, organic coffee, wine, made-to-order pizza pies, deli food, mini cheesecakes, locally-made candles and gifts, candy, sodas and more. Expect to pay a premium for most things, but that's a fair trade-off for not having to drive 25 miles up Highway 1 to Fort Bragg to get cream for your coffee! Additionally, it's where The Old Geezers (as they refer to themselves) to meet for a cup of coffee every morning. Visitors and locals alike are welcome - just purchase a cup of coffee or tea and join the Group on the porch. Thank you, Marie, for keeping this place alive. I've been to the Westport community store twice while driving along Highway One north of Fort Bragg. It's the only convenience store in town that I noticed. It's definitely got a cute vibe to it. The inventory looks pretty good, especially the wines and beers. I was rather tempted by a number of the baked goods, but I was just dropping by for coffee. Coffee wasn't that good, unfortunately. I'd be back, though, if I was in the area (can't be too picky in this case!). read more

Store is very small, ramshackle, and quirky but I found they had a HUGE selection of local microbrews plus lots of wines. They also have a single, worn out gas pump if you get desperate for fuel. The selection of local history and culture books also kept me busy for a period while the sole employee made some fresh sandwiches. Had the crabby patty and the local flavor smoked salmon sandwich. Both were nothing great, bland, but the store is worth supporting in such a tiny coastal town. Reasonable prices ($7 for sandwiches) for the huge distance from a larger town. I stopped there to see if they would fill a 50 gallon barrel because the water was off at the State Park. The store was on generator power due to an area power outage and they still took the time to fill my barrel which I truly appreciated. Great people and place! read more
