Went to did a tour at this place and was the worst experience. Made an appointment with a guy on the phone and showed up and it's a self guided tour after downloading this slow ass app yiu scavenger hunt your way around to the building. It guided us up to the pool on the way to the pool the elevator got stuck multiple times, showed up to the small ass pool and a garden of weeds. The next stop was the first apartment, we put that we wanted to see a 2 bed and got off the elevator to the smell of trash. Walked into the apartment and it was a studio with no furniture, smell of trash was terrible due to the fact the trash shoot was next to the apartment bad experience overall, self guided tours arnt the way to sell a community read more

I just signed my 2nd renewal here at the Rey with only good reasons and without any hesitation. All the staff are now family to me. From the front office staff to all the crew members and all the lovely neighbors, it was a EZ PZ decision. Matt from the leasing office and all the other lovely ladies in the office have been extremely helpful in all the various situations that came up throughout my time here. I highly recommend Matt to anyone who is interested in checking this place out. He will make the touring process very efficient and give you all the good recommendations between the units and the neighborhood in case you're settling into the city. Cheers! read more

I have been touring apartments in downtown San Diego for about a month and a half now and wasn't 100% sold by anything until I toured The Rey. I had a wonderful experience touring this beautiful building with Kylah, she was very thorough and helped me find my perfect unit. Love living here. At first my younger neighbors annoyed me but now they've gotten much better about the noise level. I love that my apartment comes with a large storage and parking space. Makes living downtown more enjoyable. The elevators move fairly fast, obviously slower after 3pm when people are coming home. Trash chutes on every level. Good area of downtown and by the highways in any direction. Love that I have a washer/dryer in my unit. The walls are extra thick and I have a large closet. The only thing with the complex that I dont like is that there is no hot tub. They really should build one, then this would be the most perfect place to live and i would never leave. I felt compelled to write this review about my experience dealing with Tina. She is not a very friendly person. She was bothered by a few simple questions regarding mail that my Grandmother had and was very rude to her almost to the point of just dismissing her altogether. If you can be rude to a little old lady then you shouldn't be in a customer service type position, there's something seriously wrong with you. read more

The leasing office in this building is a carnival of incompetence. After arriving at the building on the dot for my scheduled tour, I found the front door computer was broken and wouldn't dial the leasing office, so I waited around a minute for a resident and went inside to the leasing office, where a glassy-eyed secretary mumbled at me that "because of Fair Housing", they refused to do my tour because I was "late" (at the door of the leasing office at 5:16 for a 5:15 tour). Luxury buildings often have frustratingly low quality staff in their leasing offices, but Berkshire Communities has managed to set a new low here. Have fun dealing with these people - you're in for a treat. read more

The Rey is a paradise if you want to live like in a College Dorm. If you like to hear loud parties in your neighbor's apartment instead of sleeping at night, this is your place. Also, you won't be able to use the elevators without dealing with people who do not care at all wearing a mask. Amenities are closed or restricted because of covid. It was a nice community to live in before Covid. Now, I would not recommend this if you are over 30. I also want to add that the most basics facilities do not work properly. I been living at The Rey for one year and just renewed my lease for second year. The staff ( Matt and Mackenzie) have been super helpful in providing help and support for all my questions. The renewal of my lease was super easy thanks to the staff. The only small issue I had over the year was the parking garage gate being broken for half a year. She and all of her co workers have been very responsive and helpful, making our move a very easy process. Norelle is very professional, friendly, and on top of it. Moved here recently and did not have a chance to physically view the apartment beforehand. Despite that, the apartment building and staff have met and exceeded all expectations. 1. The staff has been attentive and accommodating. Mar was extremely kind and helpful in showing the place via FaceTime due to Covid, answered all our questions and addressed any concerns (and I ask a lot of questions). Upon arrival, Norelle was also warm and welcoming during the walk through, with all the details explained clearly and concise. Overall, the staff keeps an upbeat, positive outlook which boosts the positivity of everyone else around and just seem generally happy. I've lived in several places and it's just nice when the staff is happy--it sets the tone. 2. The Location is great. Right in the middle of gas lamp and little Italy. Everything is literally walking distance. Restaurants are of course not at full capacity because of Covid, but there still are a good amount that have outdoor seating. Downtown San Diego also closes down streets on the weekends to allow more space. 3. The building itself is fairly new and nice. Nothing is worn down inside. Patios have amazing views of the city and the hillside. 4.The down sides (mainly due to Covid)...Things like the gym are shut down. The elevators are also supposed to only have a couple people inside and as a result it can take a little longer to get up and down. Packages aren't the easiest to retrieve and are stored in lockers downstairs. I recommend requiring signature for anything valuable and having a fold down dolly that you can take to retrieve packages. Some delivery services also vary. Whole Foods and Amazon fresh used to show up at front door but sometimes show up downstairs. A little inconvenience, but really you can blame Covid for those things. There is a parking garage but spaces are small and can be hard to park in. But, in all fairness, you're in the city, in a skyscraper, that's kind of a given. The fact that there's even any parking is better than most. At the end of the day, the pros far outweigh the cons. We love our place, the amenities, the location, the view, the people, and all the good food around. read more

I stopped by on my last business trip and I was impressed at the cleanliness, friendliness of the staff, amenities, and best of all the location. 5 months into living here and couldn't be more impressed with everything. My fan in the bathroom burned out earlier this week (due to my friends leaving the light on over a few nights) and Guillermo came in and fixed it for me in less than an hour and even gave me a new model of the fan/light. He did amazing and i'm grateful to have such quick service for my maintenance requests! They also just put in new wood floors in the hallways and it elevated the atmosphere by a lot! read more

I recently moved in and everything has been great so far. Norelle has been awesome to work with for everything from touring the building to answering any and all questions I've had along the way. NOT A SAFE PLACE TO LIVE AT! I've only been living here for 3 months. This is definitely the worst place to live at.I normally don't write reviews, but as someone who moved here because of work and needed a place with accommodations and safety, that is NOT the case. The leasing office has never been helpful, since the beginning. My car got broken into in their own parking garage. All my windows were slashed. Employees have been trying to get more security and corporate is choosing to be cheap instead of ensuring safety for their tenants. I have not been the only resident in this building who's windows of their car got slashed and broken into. Other residents have gone through this. And despite the repeated car jacking, nothing has changed. If you want to risk getting your car windows slashed and not having the support of the leasing office, then good luck. They only have one security officer. read more

My partner and I moved from San Diego to New Mexico during the pandemic and when we decided to come back to San Diego.. Norelle and The Rey happened to be the only one to contact us back during our apartment search. I'm sure you can imagine how stressful it would be moving during a time like this, especially not being able to see the apartments in person.. but Norelle and her teams were amazing! We were extremely impressed with the size of the studio as well as the amazing amenities. We have been here for only a week now and while moving can be super stressful.. The Rey has been beyond amazing and peaceful! We are so happy to be residents here and would recommend The Rey to anyone and everyone! read more

Updating review to state they still haven't cleaned the windows in OVER a year now. The most important feature of the building with floor-to-ceiling windows are dismal at best. I've seen all the buildings around us get cleaned too, with much envy on my end lmao No acknowledgment, no apology, no offer for a small rebate. Silence. The only acknowledgement they gave was promising it's about to be done at lease signing, and telling us we maintain a 6-month cleaning cycle. That would be 3 window cleanings by now! Zero. There was an email saying they were about to do it many months into lease. But nothing after, and still never completed now in a year+. They were already pretty bad when I signed which is why I asked in the first place! I was confident the leasing manager wouldn't BS me and tell me they were about to be done very soon - lies. The worst part was having family over for the holidays staring out disgusting windows, I was really hoping they would be clean before than, and really get to show off the view here...too late for that now! It's not very hard to keep residents up to date. It's a quick email blast. If you can't clean them, let us know why, and offer something pro-rated to the residents based on the time they've leased so far if you have some weird technicality preventing you from completing this task. $100 even would go far to feel like the main amenity you signed up for is in dismal shape for over a year. Silence makes it worst FYI, and we pay too much money for something so simple as this to be ignored. It's not about money in the end, it's about being informed like adults here. Even worst, how many people are reading this and turning away. I wouldn't of leased a high rise downtown from a place that had this review. There's too many great options. So the cost is far greater than the savings if you're being too cheap to fork over money to clean. The good things I mentioned before remain, so I'm keeping the two stars. We've lived here for 5 years. We pay almost $4000 a month for a 2 bedroom. Recently we cannot even sit on our wrap around balcony or keep the windows open without it smelling up our entire apartment of weed. We've contacted management, recorded videos, spoke with security and quite honestly nothing has been done. Zero effort from the staff. Our option they gave us was spending $10,000 to break our lease. Ok our lease agreement it states a NON-smoking environment. This is violation of our lease but we still have to pay $10k to break it? 0/10 recommend living here. read more

This review is for my leasing agent NORELLE. I've lived in The Rey for a few weeks now. Moving from the Oregon border, I never got to personally tour the Rey or the neighborhood. Coming from far out, I had looked at endless rentals for weeks on end. Norelle was my main contact at The Rey while I was rental hunting, and she deserves a five star review. Out of all the leasing agents I've spoken to from multiple companies, Norelle was thorough, detail oriented, and quick to respond. She listened to everything I wanted in a space to live and worked with my budget. She gave me a list of all the possible units that met all my needs, included photos of each one, and gave me a virtual tour of all the ones I liked. A big role in my decision to go with The Rey was Norelle's professionalism and how easy she made this feat to overcome. If I recall correctly, I told Norelle the same day we had first talked that I was sold. I finally made the big decision to sign papers and Norelle made sure to guide me through the process and despite everything being online, she made it go really smoothly. Now that I'm a Reybor (lol) Norelle still helps me get through life at The Rey. She even helped rescue my cat who had jumped off my balcony. I've run into her a few times in the hallways and elevators and she recognized me before I could even recognize her! It made me feel so at home especially being the new girl in the big city. She is just the sweetest, most helpful person and I'm glad we're Reybors! I also want to point out MATT, who was there to help me sign my papers during move in day and just for being Matt. I've only interacted with him a few times, but he seems like a fun human being! read more

My husband and I made an appointment today to tour this apartment building. We were interested in a one-bedroom apartment, but after our initial experience, we decided to leave and not return. Our appointment was at noon, and they made us wait in the lobby for 10 minutes, so my husband got up and asked the receptionist if the tour agent was available; she said she was on a break. After a few minutes, they took us to the back, where three other people were working that could have helped us and not made us wait. The tour agent asked us for our government IDs, and she was able to scan my REAL ID driver's license, but not my husband's REAL ID driver's license for some odd reason. He had 15 different cards in his wallet with his name; they wouldn't accept any other ID. He has a global government ID for TSA, and she didn't even know what that was. They decided not to let my husband in to tour the unit, so we decided to leave. The manager was not helpful and did not care at all. Obviously, to her, we were just another number. I am glad they showed us who they are "on our first date." RED FLAGS! The organizational culture at this place is horrible. Do not lease at this place. If this is how they treated their prospective clients imagine how they will treat you after you sign the lease. read more
