The location of the building is great since it is only about 10 minutes from both of our work locations. It is so central to so many freeways. I have yo say it's an amazing place . If you want to live in the newest building downtown that's the place. Moved here with my gf about 4 month ago and I'm very happy . Justin show us all the floor plans and we chooses the one we love the most. Great building the staff is mostly nice and professional. Very affordable for a prime location downtown. Amazing roof view . A lot of young residence which is a plus. Only down side they don't have a jaccuzi on the property (can add much more ) I don't think our sky deck is one of the nicest one I saw in San diego. Worth every penny . Talk to Justin the property manager and he will follow you step by step into moving to this amazing place . I live on 3rd and I'm happy cuz I don't have any wind at all in my balcony . The good: beautiful building and units The bad: Do you like getting food delivered to your door? Nope, the Rey won't let that happen. You have to go downstairs to meet your delivery person outside. Do you like making online purchases? Are they ever heavy? They won't be coming to your door, you have to go to the Parcel Lockers located at P3 and take a wild guess at which of the 3 lockers (spread out across the garage) your package is in. The parcel pending app is a hit or miss on whether it's working properly. Does your dog like to go on walks? Good luck walking it in this neighborhood, it's crawling with homeless people. Do you ever leave your home awhile and need a dog walker to take your dog out? Good luck getting them in, you're not allowed extra fobs and there's no mechanism to buzz up service people to your unit. Contrary to popular belief, there's also no hot tub in this building, just a very cold "heated" pool Cherry on top: there's 478 apartments and only 4 elevators in the entire building. One or more elevators often breaks down or is being rented by someone moving in or out. That combined with the aforementioned need to go up and down up to 21 flights of stairs constantly to pick up a delivery, package, etc, makes life much harder than it should be for the 26-43K they pay per year to live here. Spend your money elsewhere- this place is a gimmick. read more

I appreciated the responsive service and check-in process. Since I was out of town and in transit, I had to do everything virtual and could not view the property in person before signing the lease. The staff in leasing made the process easy and worry-free. Specific shout-out to Mar, who took care of the paperwork. They are a military-friendly community. I called around a couple places in the area and did not get the same level of professionalism and responsiveness. Right off the bat, I got a good impression of the Rey, which was important to me in placing trust. Upon entry, I was impressed by the appearance of the lobby and continued to be impressed by the amenities and rooftop grilling area. The grounds are well-maintained and looked-after. Maintenance requests are fulfilled quickly and the appliances within the apartments are good quality. Very pleased with the experience and would recommend living at The Rey. read more

Our experience at the Rey was definitely not great. Our original impressions of the building were great, and Mar was very helpful getting us set up in our unit. My key fob didn't work that first night, but that turned out to be the least of my troubles here. One month in, our apartment flooded due to a hot water main break, and it took their office way too long from when the flooding started to actually respond to us at all. Should you want to reach the maintenance team, be prepared to wait through the longest pre-recorded message, so that you can finally leave an EMERGENCY voicemail, that they may or may not see and respond to. The water from the incident was enough to damage 14 units, with ours being the worst affected, obviously. Most of our personal property was ruined, and after we told her four times that there was no way we could unexpectedly find somewhere to stay, the property manager of the building (Tina) told us: "This is just part of the risk you take by living in a high rise." This is obviously not ideal, so several hours later her initial offer of a single night in a hotel was all we had. We checked out the next morning, only to meet with her, and then checked back in when she conceded two more nights, at our insistence. The second unit we were moved to, after all of the negative experiences with the property manager, was seriously disappointing. We are currently living next to smokers (not just pot smokers), and aside from the smoke\smells coming through the vents, they also slam doors and use the stairwell next to our bedroom all night long! The security team here isn't as useful or responsive as they could be. When I couldn't get up to my floor because my fob wasn't working that first night, the security guard at the desk gave me a blank stare and shrugged me off rather than do anything to help at all with the elevators. More recently, when the smokers denied their responsibility for the smell one night, the guard came to harass us instead, while we were already asleep! With all of this going on, how is my fiancée supposed to feel safe when she is alone here? Fair warning to anybody thinking of living here, the chutes for trash and recycling are regularly clogged up, and if you live anywhere near the ground, there's a good chance your hallway nearby will be a mess from this. The cleaning crews do their best to keep up with the messes, but it's just too much. We tried for months to get settled here, but between the property manager, the flood and our shady new neighbors, we're over it, and it's time to go. The building amenities are what you're paying for, not the experience of living here. read more

We were some of the first tenants to move into the Rey when it first opened a few years ago and just moved out. We always enjoyed our experience there and it was a great place and location to live. Great place to live for anybody especially in the heard of San Diego. This complex is beautiful and has so many amenities. Gorgeous lobby, great security and the rooftop is stunning. They have a beautiful lobby and rooftop view with a better-than-average gym. Now that we've gotten the nice stuff out of the way... This place was really great last year and has gone way downhill. If you have to work early in the morning, expect to need earplugs to sleep because there will be people blaring music on week-nights. Don't worry though, your noise complaint won't stop them for any longer than about 5-10 minutes. You can always smell the marijuana in the elevators and hallways. It's actually obnoxious at times. If you have a maintenance issue, expect a couple weeks to get your stuff replaced / fixed. Expect to have to remind the staff to do their job and try to get your stuff fixed. They will not even track those sort of things without needing to be told repeatedly. When amenities break, don't expect them to be repaired any time soon. They've had a garage door broken for months. Good luck to the poor soul who braves these doors. May the spoiled college kids and poor service not break your spirit. Our sink was leaking consistently and leaving a constant puddle on our bathroom counter. Guillermo came in and fixed it right up. He did a great job and walked me through exactly what the issue was and how he fixed it. I went on to ask him a few other maintenance questions while I had his ear and he answered everything with great detail. We've lived here just under a week and the thing that stands out about this place is the customer service. You're always greeted with a smile and remembered by name. Moving is always tricky especially managing the logistics of trucks and pods in a city and The Rey has been more than helpful and delightful. In addition to the customer service, the amenities are unbeatable. We looked in little Italy, we looked in bankers Hill, and this building is better than everything that we've seen. The rooftop pool is like a movie scene with beautiful people around and we stopped going to our regular gym because this gym has better equipment. Living on B street is the place to be. We've been to the taco stand down the block every day and it's wonderful seeing all of the business people going to work each morning. All of the residents we've met have been kind and professional. There's lots of friendly dogs but the most remarkable thing is how quiet the building is. I can't believe how well insulated this building is. You close the door and you can't hear anything in your unit. read more

They Rey is great! Awesome management that have helped us out so much! Military friendly and understanding ready to hear you out and listen. Built a great relationship with the workers there so asking for help with packages and passes for guest parking is quick and easy! View from the apartment is great! not to mention the sky deck! awesome lounge with heaters and grills great for friends to come and relax! The gym is just the right size if you're into hitting the gym hard or just going for a run on the treadmill with a nice view. The apartments are nice flooring is great al around cozy a place you'll never wanna leave even though you're surrounded by Awesome spots in san diego! Walking distance and cheap uber distance from a bunch of great bars, Clubs and ferries that take you to Coronado for a fun date or a fun time with friends and family. New Management has led to deterioration of customer service and receiving amazon packages. The service desk will no longer accept your package and when packages are delivered the security guard or management will let them into the building to dump your packages in the mail room to be stolen or as management has communicated to me "they leave them in the mailroom to be a free for all". Though the building claims to be non- smoking many people smoke weed on their balconies here and smoke their hookah. FYI if you are a military member many people smoke weed in the building and it permeates into your apartment if you keep your door open and the smell lingers inside the elevators. I am unable to keep my door open most days because of the stench that will fill my apartment. Management has been notified about the situation for more than 6 months now. read more

I've lived here for a couple of years and don't have any complaints. It's centrally located in the heart of the best places in San Diego (Balboa Park, Seaport Village, House of Blues, Gaslamp, etc.) The apartments are modern and the concrete walls are great for blocking noise. I love my view of the city and can see the harbor, along with beautiful fireworks shows from Sea World. I'd recommend living here. The management is very friendly and helpful. The hallways, elevators, etc. are kept very clean also. read more

I live in this building since 2018. It is my home! I am moving to Los Angels and truly heartbroken. This building is gorgeous and has a amazing location, however there is more than a location and that is staffs! The office manger Tina Younan and her staffs in the office from Sarean to Matt extremely helpful, kind and welcoming. There are always there to help you and make your feel safe regardless you staying one year or years, and that's why I stayed 4 years. Mr Guillermo, who is in charged of all the maintenance in the building, not only professional, he is treading everyone like a family. I share this because truly touched my heart today. I was going to go to work when I realized my car is died and I don't have anyone to reach out to because was early, called tow company and they said two hours and charge me when I saw Mr Guillermo who was just getting to work, he jump to his car and came all the way lower parking level to help me jump my car!! My boyfriend and I just moved into The Rey and we have had an amazing experience so far! Norelle was our leasing agent and she was always very friendly and reliable. We weren't sure which unit we wanted so she toured us two different times and was extremely helpful in helping us choose the perfect unit for us. Any time we called someone was in the office, available to assist us, and we were even able to reserve the loading dock and elevator for our move in, which was so helpful.
