My lesson was meh. It wasn't anything special. I don't feel like I got any instruction. We just went in circles and got yelled at about not posting our trot. I wanted to learn about the parts of the saddle, how to hold my body, how to breathe with the horse, the proper things I need to learn and expand on my knowledge of horse riding. There was a little girl in the class and she seemed to get all the attention. I didn't get any one on one attention-definitely not worth it if I wanna go in a circle, I would go on a kids ride. I cannot recommend The Riding Coach enough! Been going to classes for over a year now and I've learnt so much. Gudrun and Carol are both excellent instructors - always made sure you were safe but most importantly having fun. You get a casual 10-15mins trail ride to and from the barn to Eastern field, where you get about an hour of lesson time. Prices are ok they charge you by weight only paid about 15 dollars more for my husband than we would have down the street but it's ok since the location down the street, l.a rides or something like that, didn't attend to us after being there for 10 minutes and calling and calling and the service here was just right. This team is outstanding. I found them during the pandemic as an activity for our daughter. The wife and I have also become huge fans as we've taken our daughter. Sign up is simple through the site. The entire lesson ends up being a total experience of an hour and half with over one hour of hands on instruction. You get on the horse at the stable, get lead out with a TA, work in the ring for an hour and then have a casual ride back. It's amazing. They teach real riding and it's not an hour out just for recreation. From walking, to jogging, to the posting trot and then cantering. They want you to to really understand how to ride and to learn about horses. We've been over 10-20 times now as you develop and change the horses that you they pair you with to continually grow your riding ability. My 11 yr old daughter takes lessons there and really loves it. She is able to borrow a helmet and boots so I didn't have to buy to start. She helps care for the horse as well as learning riding skills. They are so friendly here and it. It is obvious Goodrun and Carol are there for the love of the horses. I originally found this riding school from yelp and I wish there would have been a review to warn me. I paid $280 for 4 lessons on the website. Separately, I reserved my spot for a lesson. When I got there the next day I wasn't on the list but they put me on a horse anyways. But when we got out to the field Gudrun put me on the phone with Carol, who started to berate me for "lying" about not paying for my classes. They never communicated to me that I was supposed to choose one particular day of the week and pay extra for other days. I'm stunned that a company that has been running for so many years would have such bad communication and horrible customer service. There are a lot of horse riding schools in LA, I don't recommend this one. read more

We had a large group of young Brownie Girl Scouts and they wanted to work toward their "Horsemanship Badge" with their hard-earned cookie money this year. So after some Googling, I came across The Riding Coach. After reading about Carol and Gudrun and their philosophy on horses and riding, it was a no-brainer that this was the stable for us! We scheduled a two hour lesson where the girls learned about horse anatomy, grooming, mounting, dismounting and general horse care. The girls got to spend about 15 minutes each in the arena on a horse learning basic riding skills. A few of our girls were super nervous, but Carol, Gudrun and their amazing team of assistants put the girls at ease right away with a "no pressure, lots of fun" sort of attitude. It was a fantastic first experience for the girls and they came away feeling excited and proud of themselves. The next day the girls and some of us moms took a 45 min. trail ride. We had a group of 17 riders and Carol and Gudrun once again brought in several wonderful expert assistants to ride with us. It was a wonderful journey and we cannot thank Carol, Gudrun and their assistants (Jackie, Marilyn, Grace and Eric) enough for sharing their positive attitude, no-nonsense approach to safety, and real love and respect for horses and riding with our troop. I take lessons here regularly and just love it. Gudrun and Carol are wonderful teachers-- they're patient and will never make you do something you're uncomfortable with, but they still push you to get better. They know their horses so well, and really do consider them members of the family. I take their group lessons and I adore everyone else that I ride with-- everyone is incredibly supportive and encouraging, and Gudrun and Carol always manage to give you plenty of individual attention. was looking to take horseback riding lessons for as cheap as possible, as close to home as possible. thankfully, i came across gudrun's classes and couldn't be happier. i'm on my second 5 week session and already know how to care for a horse pre-ride (brushing, etc), saddle and unsaddle a horse, and how to take care of them post-ride. i've learned simple riding, posting trot, and canter and continuing to get more and more comfortable on a horse. what i really like is that they teach you everything you want to know. a lot of places don't even teach you how to saddle a horse, let alone care for it. a big reason i began lessons is because i'm currently acting in a western, so gudrun asked me exactly what i needed to learn and by when and has been delivering since the beginning! read more

Today I had my second lesson. I love the instructor Gudrun and volunteer Jackie. They are so professional and patient. You don't have to worry if you don't have any experience. My attention was just to learn horseback riding, but I'm so surprise that I learn so much about grooming, saddle and unsaddle. I learn knowing horses and take care of them. Every horse has their own personality, so interesting. I love the instructor and her horses. I already thinking about to do volunteer over there if I get retired, but I'm far away from my retirement. The Riding Coach is an exceptional place - Gudrun and Carol really know their stuff and make students feel comfortable and at ease. I had never been on a horse before and had some initial nervousness about horseback riding - but, I really wanted to try it. During my lesson I became acquainted with the horse and Gudrun ensured that I had the "right" horse to ride. My husband also enjoyed himself tremendously -he had been riding previously. We both learned a great deal about how to groom/clean a horse, saddle up, ride and dismount. Both Carol ad Gudrun are very knowledgeable about all aspects of horses and are great teachers. I started lessons with Gudrun 10 years ago and gained a great base understanding and instinct with riding. When work took me out of state I stopped riding. Now, upon returning to Los Angeles, I stopped into the barn to see if Gudrun was still there and, of course, she was! I started riding again and it's been such a joy. I would have given more stars but let me explain. This lady I assume who is apart of management bitched out this employee for about five minutes in front of us and other customers. Very unprofessional. Yes there was a language barrier and it was a issue about money but the way it was handled was very tacky. Other than that me and the wife had a great time. It was my first time horse back riding and of course I got a crazy horse but our guide was always right there to correct the situation. The trail is 3 1/2 miles and It's very scenic and fun to travel. I really enjoyed the experience and would do it again. Next time I may choose another place in the area just to see if management has their Shit together. read more

Riding horses teaches you to let your body take over and relax your mind- there's a reason why so many of us (especially those who work in front of computer screens all day) feel like this is therapy. Having read all the horse books as a child and yet never having taken a lesson, I finally signed up for riding classes in my 50s. Gudrun at the Riding Coach is an exceptionally patient and kind teacher, she really loves her horses and teaching and I highly recommend this place for any beginner. The horses are so well cared for and they choose a horse that is right for you. I rode the sweet and unflappable Dagwood, who was perfect for me to gain confidence and feel comfortable actually on the back of one these magnificent animals and not just as an armchair rider! I also really enjoyed learning to groom and saddle him. Only going to class once a week, it took me a long time to remember how to put the bridle on and cinch up the saddle, etc, and yet Gudrun and Dagwood were always patient and kind with me. Jackie and Grace are the other students in my class, they've been with the Riding Coach for years and they are also a great asset, very friendly, helpful and encouraging. I've stopped riding for a couple of months after 5 months of lessons because of some time constraints but never a Monday morning goes by that I don't think of my two and four footed friends there and I'm sure I will be back. read more

I started taking lessons here 12 years ago and have no plans to stop. Gudrun and Carol are great teachers and their horses are well trained and very well cared for. They teach mostly Western riding and all levels. They teach you how to groom and tack your horse as well as how to ride safely.
