Why lie? And why is our water pressure low? We had someone from Right Choice come by our house to ask if we needed any work from a contractor. We said sure because the water pressure has been low lately and we wanted to know why. Rebecca and Ray came over a day or so later and were very cordial and pleasant. We agreed to do a plumbing inspection and also an electrical. In a cursory inspection, Ray found there was a leak under the house. The plumber came to inspect and told us that the leak was due to some old pipes that had decayed. OK, we should get that fixed. But when we reminded him that we wanted to understand the water pressure issue, he more or less ignored us. He also completely missed the fact that we have a spigot that's broken. He never even turned on a faucet. What kind of plumbing inspector never turns on the water anywhere in the house? Finally, a couple of days later Ray came back with Matthew to give us a quote. But before we did, Matthew gave us a 90 minute sales pitch, mostly focusing on the remodeling we could do IF it turned out that we had mold in the walls from the leak. He walked around our house insulting the decor, making sexist comments about my wife (because she does all the laundry, right? and she's "more than just a pretty face"), rudely chastising me for out-of-date electrical, and dropping names of clients. Bizarely, he proudly showed us the work he did for one of JFK's grandsons. The client appeared in photos and videos and was clearly retirement age. Our experience with Right Choice Home Remodeling (RCHR) recalls similar elements in accounts expressed in other 1-star reviews. RCHR regularly exhibited poor accountability and communication, and general lack of concern for customers. Our project included repairing water damage on a 6 ft x 6 ft section of a roof awning over a main residence doorway and extending a portion of roof (about 15 ft in length) outwards by about 2 ft to fully cover a porch. The project began in late April 2021 and in January 2022 it is still not completed. During the project, we were often pressured to pay for work before respective stages were completed. Four city inspections were needed to pass; RCHR scheduled all 4 inspections, but nobody from RCHR bothered to show up for 2 and the last one involved submitting photos directly to the city inspector. We must now erect a tarp to keep the porch dry went it rains. If you take the risk, I hope you fare better than our profoundly disappointing experience: Initially, two young guys (Edo and Shawn) showed up. They were eager to accommodate and full of promises. Their written estimate was competitive price-wise ($8500), and the project was estimated to require about 1 month for completion. They assured us they would take care of the building permit. Once we signed the contract on April 26th, 2021, however, this changed literally overnight. The next day Edo and Shawn claimed a permit was unnecessary because of an exemption and pressured us to allow them to finish the job. Despite repeated requests to show us this exemption in city building codes, they never produced it. After a few weeks they acknowledged a permit was necessary then quoted us an additional $8000 for architectural plans, engineering documents, and to handle the permit application. I told them this seemed high, especially since they had agreed to take care of permitting issues when the original contract was signed. I found a good firm in Pasadena to provide architectural plans and engineering documents for one-third their quoted cost. After I secured the plans and other documents, Edo and Shawn refused to file the permit application as initially agreed. In late May, I submitted the permit application and it passed engineering and zoning reviews on my first visit to the City Permit Center. I notified Edo and Shawn that RCHR needed to "pull the permit" since I had done everything else. They botched this last step though and ended up both pulling the permit I had initiated and also applying for an entirely new permit for the same job. Thus, on June 1st we had two permits from the City of Pasadena issued for the same job. A few days later, the city performed the 1st inspection. It failed. The inspector's report noted numerous ways in which the architectural plans had not been followed. About a month later, and not hearing from Edo and Shawn in the interim, we were assigned another person (Shawn #2) who promptly arranged for a 2nd inspection on July 15th. This surprised us because no work had been done since the failed 1st inspection. Shawn #2 was difficult to reach by phone and often did not return messages. When I reached him, he explained he had two phones and the phone number given to customers was not one he often checked. Shawn #2 arranged the 2nd inspection to take place when he knew we would be away from the property. When I called the city inspector afterwards, he informed me that Shawn #2 showed our property from the sidewalk and architectural plans were shown on a mobile device. Unsurprisingly, the 2nd inspection also failed. Next, I was directed by the main office to speak with Tair. During our initial phone conversation, Tair claimed he owned the company and he reassured us that he wanted to complete the project. When I expressed surprise that he was absent from the company's entry on the Contractors State License Board website, he quickly changed the subject. This wasn't the only time I doubted his veracity. Tair said that Edo no longer worked for RCHR, but 6 months later Edo still appears on the company's entry on the CLSB website. Tair claimed to have not received the inspector's report from the 2nd failed inspection when I requested a copy, but when I met the city inspector in person to obtain it, he showed me the email he had sent RCHR with the inspection report attached. It was sent to the same RCHR email as used throughout. Tair assigned a 4th person, Norman, to the job. Norman was reasonable and accountable. The 3rd inspection still failed due to inconsistencies with the plans. Norman followed-up though and on the 4th attempt the work passed inspection on Sept. 23rd (5 months after starting). Unfortunately, RCHR refused to adhere to the Construction and Demolition Waste Management Ordinance of the city, so the job remains non-compliant with city regulations. Tair offered to initiate a Change Order for the project on October 26th, but this has not happened, and we have not heard from RCHR since then. read more

I requested a consultation from another company! This woman Charlene asked me about my project then said they charge a minimum of $5000. I told her my project wouldn't cost nearly that much. Then she asked me if I wanted to add on to my project with roofing or flooring, huge projects that I don't need! I told her no and hung up. If I don't contact you for a consultation, then don't contact me. And don't try to get me to hire you for necessary projects. This company is the definition of unprofessional. We had talked to a few contractors about some work that my husband and I were thinking about having done. When Liz came out to talk to us about our projects, she listened to our concerns and what we wanted. Liz told us that she would be there for anything we needed and would be there for us. She was very helpful and checked on us every step of the way to make sure we were happy . We started with our bathrooms. Which came out great with her help. We were really happy with the way she was there listening to us. So we decided to start our next project, painting the house and landscaping. I told her what I was thinking, and she knew exactly what I wanted. The colors of the house and the fence style was exactly what I wanted. The people that came out to do the work were great as well. Liz really cares about all her clients. When our house was just about done, my husband had to have surgery and was in the hospital. Liz called to see how he was doing and came to the hospital to visit him. When my husband came home from the hospital, she also came by the house to see how he was doing. I don't know if there is another company that has someone who cares about their clients the way she does. She see them as family and cares about them. It was great to have worked with her. If we need any other renovations done we will be calling The Right Choice!!! We will recommend them to our friends when they need to have any home renovations. Just about two years ago we used this company for Kitchen and Bathroom updates. To this review heard not one follow up call from them. In the meantime, we had to have the dishwasher installation reinstalled, wrong part and positioning of an electrical component. Caulking in bathroom peeling away. All painting in kitchen was not treated properly and in places now peeling away. Add to this to the poor installation of Kitchen cabinets, microwave oven, and host of other issues ... this is a company I would not recommend. During the scheduling the guy on the other end of the phone wanted to be sure my husband and I would both be there. We were. It was 11:00am and still no show. My husband called and Right Choice apologized saying his guy had an altercation on the road and he is very shook up but, he will be there in 15 min. When he arrives we asked if he was alright. There was no car crash or altercation. He said he was late because he was waiting on an inspector, which I felt this was also a lie. I've heard this lie from other contractors. I was compelled to right this review because of the outstanding job The Right Choice Home Remodeling ("TRC"), did on our kitchen cabinet addition. When my husband Todd and I started on our journey to find a contractor to add kitchen cabinets to a blank wall we had in our dining area, we were reluctant for many reasons. "Will they be reliable and stand by their work. Will we get over charged, especially in this "new normal" post pandemic environment. Hope they don't flake. Now I am going to start to receive tons of roto calls just for inquiring online", the list goes on and on. Let's just say that our experience with TRC was the complete opposite. We had a first contractor come over the same day we looked online. He showed up and would look to my husband, even when he was asking me the question, for a response. At one point my husband shrugged his shoulders and said to him, "I have nothing to say, it's whatever she wants." Good answer by the way! He rambled off a price after talking with us for 10 min. Didn't sit down with us, just threw out a price. That made me leery right off the bat. At least seem like you're putting some effort in. The guy was just strange...bye bye. Then came Penny TRC receptionist. I typically don't answer phone calls from numbers I don't know. Remember now, we started this online and already started to receive way too many random calls from various companies, requesting to come out to give us a free estimate. Now I know that when you are looking for a service, you should expect to get calls, but not this many. I immediately became overwhelmed and fed up 1 day in. Long story short, I stopped taking calls. Day two, I get a text from TRC's Penny offering to send someone out to give us an estimate. I was impressed by her tenacity and clever thinking to send a text. Ding, ding, ding Penny made the cut and got through! I called her back at the number she provided in the text and the next day Chris TRC PM showed up to give us an estimate. Let's talk about Chris (TRC PM), for a minute. Chris was super nice and pleasant right out of the gate. He sat down with us and walked through all of our ideas and took a lot of notes, which was appreciated after our first experience. He went through all of the details in depth and gave us an estimate that was under our target budget, hooray! When Chris left our house later that evening, my husband and I looked at each other and agreed, that we found our contractor and put our deposit down the next day. The first thing that Chris did was to bring in one of their designers to do a 3D design and tighten up some of the details we discussed at our consultation. OMG, were they great! They asked me a lot of questions around my main purpose for adding cabinets and what the space will primarily be used for. Based on my answers, they recommended putting pantries on both sides to allow for even more storage space. Once the materials came in, early, there was about two full days and a few half days of work, before our beautiful addition was complete. Everyone from the electricians, cabinet install team to the guy who was sent out to do the finish work, were all very respectful, thorough and cleaned up after themselves. In summary, TRC did a great job and our cabinets look amazing. Everyone we worked with was friendly, knowledgeable and we were quoted a fair and reasonable price. Chris was great to work with and walked us through every detail. We consider Chris to be not only our "go to contractor", but also a new friend. TRC did so well that I have already referred a few people to them who I know have also been looking for a contractor to do some work. We will definitely be calling TRC for our next adventure to beautify our yard. We highly recommend using The Right Choice Home Remodeling for anything you need done on your property. In my opinion, not the "Right Choice" unless you want over priced rental property painters. Painters got paint on my curtains, hardwood floors, painted over wax that was on my wall from a candle and didn't finish painting some of the moldings. Most disappointing was they painted over some of my brass door handles and locks. If you choose to use them, read the contract carefully, make sure all of your expectations are meet and get several quotes. To leave on a positive, workers were very nice and punctual. read more

I had a major remodel done of my house in the beginning of 2023 ; new kitchen, bathroom, whole house rewiring, flooring, paint, new roof, the whole thing! They treated the job as if the house was unoccupied. I was living here at the time and still do! To rewire the house, they had to drill several holes in the walls and ceilings in every room. They used plastic sheeting to cover the furniture, not very well I might add. They cut holes that were approximately six inches in diameter in every wall. In some spots they used a hammer to just knock holes in the walls. This had to be done for the rewiring. What they did not do was to have another worker standing there with a shop vacuum to suck up the incredible amounts of dust created by cutting into the drywall. They made a huge mess. At first the work all looked good to me. It looked good because I had cataracts in both eyes. After the surgery and the job being finished, I could see much more detail. Some of the dry wall repair was poorly done. The painting looked as if it was done by a drunk monkey! The only part of it that turned out fairly well was the kitchen. However, the new microwave oven had some minor damage. The project manager, Leo, sent me a text asking if they should install the oven or wait so I could take a look at it. I texted back telling them NOT to install the oven. I returned home from work and the oven was installed. It hasn't given me any problems so I did not make them remove the oven. I should have! Leo did call one time to ask if I was satisfied with the job. I told him of the areas I was not satisfied with. He said to just mark the areas, mainly painted surfaces that were very amateurish looking and they would come to fix it. Honestly, I was so disgusted by the overall job they did, I did not want him or any of his inexperienced crew setting foot in my house again. And to top it off, if the project manager was not there, there was no way to communicate with the crew because none of them spoke English. Considering the amount of money I paid for this "renovation," the quality should have been as near to perfection as possible. It was not! I had an appt for a contractor with Right Choice Home Remodeling come out to my house on 6/6/21. The appt was made with Victor who scheduled the appt. the contractor who came out was Ira. Ira was very personable and explained the process of my wood floor refinishing project, he measured all rooms and provided a verbal estimate and timing. I asked for a written estimate and he said he would email it the following Thursday. It never came. I followed up with a call to Victor, who made some explanation about prices coming down and when that happens it's out of Iras hands and it was a good thing and he would send. Then while talking he seemed to back track a bit and said he would follow up with Ira and Ira would get back to me instead. I asked him to confirm that they would be providing the job estimate in writing. He hedged his response again and said he could not but that Ira would follow up. I asked again if they would be able to get me the estimate in writing, he said Ira could. It seemed fishy at that point his back and forth answers, so I said never mind. He abruptly hung up. Wish I could give them negative star. Not even sure where to start! But I will end with this after a quoted 8 week remodel timeline that ended up turned 11 weeks - no problem with the extra 3 weeks but expected to come back to little to no issues for the extra time. Unfortunately we came back to MANY issues and as of project manager said about a previous contractors work "a Mickey Mouse job" quality work. They cut many corners throughout the house thinking we wouldn't notice and when we called them out they acted like it was an inconvenience to them. We chalked up all the issues as whatever we'll fix them later. However the bathroom ceiling started cracking. We reached out to our project manager who sent a crew and they came in late August. They removed the ceiling fan cover, scrapped the ceiling plaster and we were told they'd be back in the next few days to repaint and replace the ceiling vent cover. It is now mid December and nothing. I'd look for a better company wouldn't recommend to even my worse enemy. We've had a door-to-door salesperson visit us and give us a brochure, on which said they offer free quotes and consultations. We told him that we had some work done recently and could get an estimate on the kitchen and flooring, and proceed only if the price is right for us. He said "window-shopping" is completely fine. Their quote would be valid for 6 months. So, we set up an appointment right then and there. On the appointment day, a very young guy came over, I am guessing early 20s. He told us that his specialty was kitchen renovations. He asked what our plan was regarding our kitchen remodel. I told him about my design and I told him I want no upper cabinets, just shelves. He judged me on that, how come I did not want upper cabinets, weird. He did not really acknowledge anything I said after that. There were a lot of awkward-silent moments. He kind of wanted us to talk and explain our situation, even though he was the sales-person. We expected him to at least explain their process. He showed us some 3D designs on his tablet and said that the designs would stay with us even though we decide to not work with them. I thought "that is fine" since other kitchen renovation companies did the same thing and gave us a printed version of their designs at no charge. Then he said it would be $1,000 for the 3D design. We said we only want an estimate, not the design. He said, "You will pay thousands of dollars for the work, but not one thousand dollars for the design?". Well, that is none of your business how I want to spend my money and what happened to the free quote that you mention on the brochure? He got cagey and said he could give us a free estimate if we know exactly what we want. I said, we do. What kind of countertops? Quartz. What color? Black. Which one? Are you kidding me?! Trying to push me into a corner asking ridiculous questions. I know that the price of different materials vary, but is this your way of communicating that you cannot give me an estimate without me paying you the thousand dollars? We told him that we got free estimates and designs from other companies. He wanted to see those designs, implying that we were lying to him. He started getting agitated. I asked him "Why are you here then if you won't give us an estimate?" No answer. We wanted him to leave shortly after that. This was supposed to be a meeting where we discuss what kind of work we want to be done, different types of materials, etc. It was absolutely A WASTE OF TIME! read more

Our experience was much more like the other 1-star reviews. My sister and I wanted to help my mom remodel her property that she's lived in for over 20 years. My mom is an immigrant and her English is poor, which is why trying to communicate with contractors without either my sister or I on site was always a difficult task. Since I recently moved back to California earlier this year, we decided that this was an opportune time to help her do this. My sister had an initial screening call with Adi at Right Choice in which she said that we were interested in remodeling my mom's home to make it more livable for her. He seemed to understand what we were looking for, so we scheduled a site visit a couple of weeks later. They gave us a range of time (3:30-4:30pm) that they might show up but would call us the day of to confirm the time. On the day of I received a call from Monica to confirm the appointment. She said that it was her understanding that we were interested in converting a garage into an ADU. Uh, no. Neither my sister nor I had mentioned an ADU, much less converting an existing garage into one. She seemed confused. I informed Monica that our priority is to remodel the existing home, but we were potentially interested in building out an addition to expand square footage in case either my sister or I would need to move home to help care for my mother. I suppose, building out an ADU instead of an addition is also a possibility. It would depend on the cost. We agreed on 3:30pm. Monica wanted to make sure that all decision makers would be present, and that I had at least an hour to spend with the person making the site visit. I said, yes, I had an hour, and that I would get my sister on the phone so that she could also be a part of the meeting. At around 2:45pm, I received a message from Monica that said the person would arrive closer to 4pm. Well, okay. I had already moved my work appointments around to accommodate the 3:30 appt. 4pm came and went and still nobody showed. At about 4:30pm I called and mentioned I was still waiting. Monica said she'd call me back and find out where they were. About 5 minutes later, "Ben" finally showed up with a half-hearted apology about there being an accident on the road. Ben barely looked at the house at all. Instead, he took a look at the lot, and then sat down at the kitchen table and showed me pictures and floor plans of other ADU projects he's worked on. "To see what I'd like," he said. I kept pushing him for an estimate, and he would get cagey and say, "well, it depends on what you want, and what you like. The finishes can cost a lot." Sure, I understand. High end finishes can cost a lot, but other construction companies we've talked to could at least give us a ballpark of an estimate. For example, walls and a foundation for the ADU are not finishes and are non-negotiable part of construction. I should at least be able to get a cost estimate for THAT. After I pushed some more, he finally quoted me a price. I then asked what an addition to the house would cost, and again he got cagey. Finally, I asked for an estimate for the remodel of the house, keeping the exact same footprint, no addition. This was our priority after all. He got cagey again and said, "well, it depends on what you want to do." Wasn't this the whole point of the site visit? For him to actually take a look at the house, determine what might need to be done and quote us a price?! I live 30 minutes away. We're in the middle of a pandemic! I assumed we had to have a site visit because someone actually needed to SEE the condition of the house as opposed to just show me a bunch of pictures on their phone and laptop. The whole conversation with Ben could've happened over a Zoom call. I ended the meeting shortly after that. As I was walking him out, he asked what my goal was in getting cost estimates. I explained that we were considering a few possibilities but wanted cost estimates for different scenarios so we could decide what made the most financial sense. He then condescendingly informed me that this was not the way to go about it. That we would need to have 3d designs before we could discuss any cost estimates. Well, this didn't seem to be a barrier for other construction companies we've talked to, so either Ben is incompetent at providing cost estimates or a shady salesman who wanted to dodge any discussion of price until they've sold me a vision. The latter might have worked except he didn't seem to have any sense of what we actually wanted or cared about. The entire scheduling experience was weird since they seemed to insist on all decision makers being present but didn't seem to give a damn about my time. And the site visit left me infuriated with Ben's poor attempt at a sales pitch and his condescension. read more

They contract out (which is not a big issue) the issue is that they don't work on your project consistently. They come to work on your hard work and earned project whenever they feel like it and the Owner doesn't care! And if the owner doesn't like you even worst. He really won't care. The project manager and people who came to my house to do the initial Paper work quit mid project. They told me lies. The first lie they told me was that they went to the city for initial permit and when I call the city they had never heard of them or had anything for our home. I should have ran but I have them the benefit of the doubt. Big mistake. After a few weeks in. It was hard to get a hold of the project manager or sun contractor. There was some scheduling miscommunication and misunderstanding with the contact center, but Lloyd went above and beyond to resolve the scheduling issue. I'm not a big leave a review type person but I'll get straight to the point. I had recently installed a pool but wanted to concrete around the pool as it was simply all dirt. One of their reps came out to give me an estimate, and recommended installing Pavers rather than straight concrete and I must say, I appreciated the recommendation and decided that pavers definitely looked better rather than concrete. The initial estimate they gave was completely out of the budget I wanted to spend, and so I initially declined using them because of that and had several more estimates with other companies lined up. However, the owner Adi, called us up worked with our budget and earned our business. I was skeptical at first, but the work speaks for itself. The pavers came out great and I'm glad we went with them. We have since had them demo and replace a 70ft brick wall recently and again, it came out great. Trust is huge in a contractor, and I find that I will definitely use them again, because I trust the work they do. read more

Update: To their credit, The Right Choice ultimately worked to complete the project and fix the worst of the issues. They followed through on prepping the front yard. The missing part of the the walkway was installed, and they re-did all of the paver joint sand. Promises made and broken. Make sure you put everything that you want in your contract, no matter how large or how small. Do your home work on how items are suppose to be installed. They mostly show up when money is needed. Stick to your contract payments timeline. Make sure that your large payments are done only after each job is done and not partially done. They had me pay the large payment when they started. Don't do it. Handymen do a lot of the work, which is why the quality of work is not professionally done. Don't add on to a contract, this is where you get screwed. Don't wait until you sign the contract before you see your kitchen design. If you find Asbestos, find your own testers and Abatement company. Paid $10,000 for testing and abatement and later found out that it was $5,000 too much. Asked for the difference back and got nothing. There is a lot more but too much to warn about. The price was originally good but a 6 week job ended up being 3 month but it was all my fault. Get someone to iron clad your contract. They now want me to take down the review so I remove the PM name but added more to the original review. read more

I had previous roof leaks in the past and needed our flat roof section replaced. We had several roofers give us quotes, but The Right Choice definitely stuck out.  Since I was inexperienced with roofing, I had a ton of questions. Dan was incredibly patient and responded quickly to my many questions. He provided a reasonable quote with a great warranty and explained everything very thoroughly.   His crew was on-time and worked very efficiently, professional and left everything clean. Dan was also very understanding of the economic issues happening due to the COVID-19 and added maintenance to the broken tiles of the roof pitches, instead of having to replace the whole thing. Limor came over on our first meeting and did a full 3D rendering with material and color choices for us to choose from. She chose tile for us , lighting for the kitchen island , and found the slab we dreamt of for our new kitchen . Oh and she is full of ideas on how to put the perfect floor plan together . 2. Jennifer was able to get us financing for 80 % of the project, and we couldn't be happier . She is so experienced with financing as a contractor that I was a bit shocked that besides craft man ship , plumbing , electrical and foundation experience, she was able to break down cost and made it a smooth sail for me and my family . I recommend them for all of the reasons above and many more , We had a lot of hesitation with hiring a contractor but once we met them that fear and worry was gone. Job well done ladies you earned the job and can't wait for our next project to come . FYI: their price came in a bit higher ( 10 % ) than 2 other companies but let me tell you this , there is no price on a piece of mind and not having to worry on cutting corners and worrying about the future of my remodel is priceless on many levels. read more
