Our experience with DiBara Masonry was extremely disappointing. We initially met with Matt to review the plans for our project. He was knowledgeable, professional, and conveyed significant industry experience. We were then introduced to the sales team, who described the project as straightforward and estimated that the work could be completed within 6-8 weeks based on plans that had already been approved by the city. Instead, the project extended to approximately seven months and was marked by persistent communication issues, poor coordination among team members, inadequate project management, and a lack of consistent oversight. After the contract was signed, both Matt and our sales representative became largely unavailable. We were assigned a project manager who was unfamiliar with the approved plans and frequently required clarification on basic project details. When we raised concerns with our sales representative, we were told that project-related issues were outside his responsibility, and we were not directed to anyone else who could effectively address them. Partway through the project, the company hired a new Director of Operations who assured us that existing issues would be resolved and the project would be brought back on track. Unfortunately, communication remained inconsistent, calls and messages often went unanswered, and there were periods of multiple weeks when no work was performed on site. A significant issue throughout the project was the apparent lack of communication between departments. Sales, project managers, foremen, office staff, and accounting frequently appeared to be operating independently, resulting in repeated miscommunications, conflicting information, and a constant stream of redundant calls, texts, and emails. As a customer, it often felt as though we were responsible for relaying information between members of their own team. One (of many) examples: we scheduled a walk through prior to making our final payment. A week later the accounting team threatened to put a mechanic's lien on our house because we hadn't paid yet. Apparently no one was talking to each other within their office. The company also relied on a long succession of subcontractors. In our experience, many arrived on site without a clear understanding of the scope of work and without access to the approved plans. This led to confusion, delays, and avoidable mistakes. Most concerning were incidents that appeared to result directly from lack of oversight. Work performed by the team caused significant damage to our sewer line. On another occasion, concrete was scheduled to be poured over exposed electrical lines that had not yet been reconnected, a situation that could have created serious complications had it not been identified beforehand. We made several attempts to speak directly with Matt regarding our concerns about project quality, management, and coordination. However, we were repeatedly told that he was unavailable or booked weeks in advance, and we were never able to have a meaningful discussion about the issues affecting our project. Based on our experience, the company presented a far different level of organization and oversight during the sales process than what was ultimately delivered once construction began. read more

I have worked with various contractors over the past 30 years, but this is the first time that the process was smooth, on budget, on time and the outcome exceeded my expectations. Our wall was damaged via a car accident driven by our neighbor (please see before and after pictures attached). Early in the process, Renee was quick to provide a high level quote via a zoom call. Then Edgar came to my house to observe the damage and provided a detailed quote. There was a cap on how much the insurance company was paying so Edgar worked with his team to give us additional discounts in order to reduce the amount of money our neighbor would have to pay out of pockets. Their prices were lower than two other companies so the $97 inspection fee was credited. The construction team included Chayan, Francisco, Leo, Gabrino, Joe , Fernando and Juan, and they all were professional, meticulous, courteous and operated safety. Francisco, Edgar and Chayan accommodated the higher quality bricks that we chose without nickel and dime us and our neighbor. The team communicated progress well and cleaned up the area at the end of each day. I feel this company is ethical, provides superior work and services to its customers at lower prices. I initially chose Dibara Masonry based on their quick response to my inquiry and their professional site visit. Unfortunately, that responsiveness vanished the moment the contract was signed. I was told to expect work to begin around the two-week mark, but after 6 weeks of radio silence -- and despite several attempts on my part to get an update -- I've had no response. Communication is key in any home renovation, and given the total lack thereof, I'll be looking for a different contractor. read more

Our job was not a big one but Dibara did first class work. The concrete area in front of our house had tilted a bit down towards the house so rainwater would run to the foundation. We had Dibara put in 3 features to help keep water away, the first was a step up to the foundation, the second was a drain set in the concrete around our stairs where the water pooled (which drained away toward the lower steps) and finally a curb on our driveway to keep water from draining off towards the house. The worst is that days will go by with no workers here and i can't get anyone on the phone, leading me to panic that they took our money and won't finish. There are a lot of companies in this space, but Dibara definitely exists in its own tier. We hired them to help us reinforce a retaining wall, and the difference was clear from very early conversations when Matt literally talked us OUT of a more expensive solution we thought we would have to do. His crew was incredibly kind, clean, and considerate - when you have new people around your house for a job it is so nice to see such friendly faces. Things generally ran on time and in budget, and our neighbors were impressed by how courteous the team was. Lastly - cleanup was incredible. We hired another well-advertised company/competitor a few years ago in this same space to do a smaller job and they left a MESS.. splatters of concrete, dust, and debris. Comparatively, Dibara's crew kept the attention to detail tight all the way down to the last phase - on hands and knees in the backyard literally vacuuming the smallest bit of dust out of turf. These guys were very good to work with. Dibarra demolished a sinking patio and failing retaining wall, replacing them with a new solid patio and sturdy well-footed retaining wall behind it. This was necessary as the patio is on the edge of a hill that had eroded significantly over time. The whole project went smoothly overall. Of note was the consideration of the work teams. I have an extensive garden that made access to the work area a bit of a challenge. The working crews were very careful to go through a specific corridor designated for them. Surprisingly, almost no damage was done to my garden areas after all this heavy and messy work was completed. Their pricing was quite fair for all the work they did. They provided us three cost effective solutions on how we could repair and reinforce the retaining walls. Our HOA board was very particular about final appearance of the walls and we had concerns about the appearance of the new tie-back plates needed to reinforce the wall. To deal with this concern about the appearance, the team (Fernando, Francisco, Eddie and Project Manager Edgar) came up with a way to hid the tie-back plates inside the masonry blocks. Summary : Very quick response.. thorough planning. Great work by John. A little friction with Matt (the owner) at first. When Matt D (the owner) came to give me a quote and talk about the retaining wall project, we had a little friction. From my past experience, while the owner cares about the reputation of the company, the crew is different. 95% of the time, when workers fixed something, they accidentally broke something else in the process. Matt is not willing to go back onsite and check the work. He said if the client doesn't trust the crew, the the client is looking down on the crew and we should not work together. Matt also said "You dont want me to do the work myself because you cannot afford me." That is very arrogant. New clients need assurance to gain trust, not dismissive statements. I almost didn't want to move forward, but it was a rainy week and the other vendors responded slower, so I went ahead with it reluctantly. I was impressed with thorough planning and communication by Edgar, and when they sent John to do the work, and I witnessed how John worked, I was more impressed. John cares about what he is doing. That is extremely rare these days, especially when he doesn't own the company. After the first full day of work, John has gained my trust. I cannot commend DiBara Masonry enough for their fine work. I have a beautiful terracotta walk way that had collapsed due to water damage because of the sprinkler system. From the first virtual meeting to assess my problem, to the in person session to get my estimate, to figuring out financing DiBara always made it easy. The tile setter was professional and a perfectionist fixing the broken and sunken sub-concrete and who went back to the store several times to make sure he could find the closest tile and stain to match the original. You literally cannot tell the difference except the fact that they look newer and less worn.
