I've been in and out of rehab facilities with various members of my family and this is by far the worst. They do very little to help those in their care and critical issues are ignored. Serious medical concerns were neglected. I wouldn't recommend this facility to my worst enemy. read more

This place got me sober. I'll be forever grateful for my time there. When I walked in I had no intention of staying sober, I just knew I needed to make a change or else I would be out on the street. To my surprise something happened when I was there and a shift happened in me that I can't begin to explain. I've been 2 years sober and never happier. The staff was absolutely amazing. I specifically asked to speak with a staff member, Roy Jones and was given the run around. I was trying to contact him due to an extremely urgent matter regarding my son and was told not to call back! Im absolutely shocked! What type of facility are you running where you can't even be bothered to relay a message or return a phone call?! This is hands down the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Completely lacking in empathy or people skills of any kind. Shame on you. I will be taking this matter up HR. Praying they're not one in the same as far as incompetency. read more

--It started off great, FINALLY had opened up and felt ACCEPTED by people around me. Then, because a person can't get help until they are honest and open, I decided to tell my "Counselor" my inner feeling of self hate and some past suicide issues (16 YEAR PRIOR). The next day they forced me to either change programs into a more "psychiatric" close watch program or leave. --I felt violated. My trust was abused. I begged them to reconsider and to take into consideration my progress before moving me. --They were a brick wall. THEY knew what was best for me. "We are doing this for you". "This is best for you"... But I have Acute Social interaction problems. The fact that I walked into that facility and made acquaintances was significant for me. I KNOW ME way better than they can possibly know me. It was hard enough the first time to enter a program, I didn't have it in me to do it again so soon. --What happened to privacy with a psychological team member? This experience has reinforced my inner self talk that I don't fit in. That I'm too bad to be around people. That everybody hates me. That you should NEVER tell anyone how you REALLY feel inside. Those dark secrets are that bad and should not be said... --What's even worse than the emotional stuff is that I have high blood pressure and have had strokes RECENTLY... I have diabetes with real high blood sugar and been HOSPITALIZED 4 times in past 2 months from it... I have asthma and carry an inhaler... AND THEY DID NOT check my blood pressure or give me meds, check my blood sugar or give me insulin, make sure I had my inhaler OR EVEN OFFER ME A WATER... prior to letting me out the gate to walk over 100 miles home. The ONLY ride they offered was to the other suggested program. --I did not break any rules. I was VERY polite to everyone. I kept calm through all this. Even other staff and a number of the patients talked to admin staff and told them to let me stay. I'm not sure what all they said but it was reported back to me that a bunch of people were on my side. For the time I was there I was very supportive to everyone. --It's not likely I'll seek a treatment program again. My trust was thoroughly trashed. I simply said what I FEEL inside... in private to my so called "Counselor". It's been 16 years since I was actually doing self harm. read more

Find another substance abuse treatment facility. A family member was admitted 5 days ago. We were told she had to be quarantined until her COVID test was negative. No one collected the specimen for until 3 days after admission. 3 other patients were admitted to her 'quarantine' cabin during this time period. Their tests were done at the same time as our family member's test. In the meantime, all were co-mingled in the same common areas. Our family member's test came back negative but one of the other inpatient's test was positive. So now our family member has to be retested AND stay in quarantine AND full substance abuse treatment cannot start until she retests negative. Five days in this 'treatment' facility without treatment at more than $20,000 for a 30 day stay, 5-7 days of which are wasted. Additionally, I have been unable to get anyone at the facility to answer their office phones. I called the number for a Tyler Hill, the operations manager. It was forwarded to another number so did not leave a message. Within 5 minutes, I received call from an unknown number. I answered thinking it would be someone from The Right Step. He did not identify himself or his organization. When I asked who it was, he would not give me his name. After asking multiple times with the same response of "Who is THIS?", I hung up. He called back several times but thinking it was a prank call I did not answer. After several calls from the unknown number my husband answered. Apparently it had been Tyler Hill who would not identify himself. Tyler told us the positive COVID patient was removed from the cabin but according to our family member, she was still there. Our family member was given an N95 mask and told to go to her room when the COVID+ person knocked on her door to come out. Tyler said our family member and we were misinformed because that is not what was happening. He was very rude. He does not know how to professionally manage an upset family member. I sure wish I had read these reviews on this 'treatment' center before admitting our family member. read more

I went to the right step at first when your going to rehab you don't want to be there it seems like a shitty place you find everything wrong with. I am currently a little over a year sober. I have been to a few rehabs before coming here and I got it right this time my counselor and the staff was amazing and caring they care and will listen and help you with anything if you need it. Not everyone is ready to get sober. There given the tools to and can act on it if they want to rehab isn't a magic fix if you have friends and family who go and relapse don't blame the place it's a amazing place and helped me get it right. Another thing that helped is they offered me help with getting into sober living which I took. Sobriety isn't a 30 days away from home and you get it right. You can't go back to the place you got sick in right away not everyone can open up to healing in 30 days. I will forever love this place and be grateful for them helping me start a new life. A family member was in Wimberly for a month and we visited often. His opinion of the place "meh." We met many people who were there for the second, third, even eighth time. This is a for-profit venture. If you're looking for a place that is more like a reform school than a mental health facility, this is it. As the guardian of the patient, my encounters with most staff members was not good. There is a know it all arrogance on the part of many who have no academic or professional training, they are simply recovered addicts, Bottom line- I do not believe in one size fits all treatment for addiction. When I first came here I found so much wrong with the place. Like the staff, the rules, and the schedule. Hell, even the birds seemed to be jerks to me. If I wanted to I could have called my loved ones and manipulated my way out of there. Addicts are good at that kind of slimy stuff. Thankfully I "awoke" before I could do that. Something... shifted. I got to an understanding that I had to try, listen and see what was being offered to me there. Only until I got out of my head was I able to see the beautiful truth: how the staff was deeply caring, but stern. How the rules were there to keep myself and the others on track. And how the schedule was expertly crafted to offer me every opportunity to learn and grow. The creme de la creme of the place, although, are the counselors. They are truly some of the most caring and empathic people I was surprised existed. You are assigned a primary counselor, but many are available and willing to listen. Which is great because it really helps when you find one that has a style you can identify with. There are 3 counselors in particular that stand out in my mind. A Barbarian, Bard, and a Sorceress (I'm a bit of a geek) that are willing to use their talents to help you get to the next paige of your life. This place is magic and I thank the stars it found me. Nice place. Poor performance. Facilities were great, staff was nice but not effective.

Unfortunately, my experience with The Right Step in Wimberly was quite disappointing. My son left the program (at the direction of Terri, the Exec Dir) to get stabilized on his bi-polar meds. She assured me that he could return, once he was stable. Not only did she fail to honor that promise once, but twice. After he had a letter from his psychiatrist stating that he was stable, she refused to return phone calls to me, to his doctor, to other professionals in the area of addiction. It appears that since he is not a full-paying client, that TRS-Wimberly feels no responsibility to honor their promise to help people out of their addiction. My advise to anyone considering this facility is to look elsewhere. Find a place where the leadership is truly invested in helping individuals, not corporate bottom lines. read more

I had a wonderful experience at the right step Wimberley, the entire treatment team there really helped save my life. They taught me how to love myself again and showed me that sobriety is really worth it. This was the first treatment center (out of the many I've been too) that gave me the counseling and tools I needed to be successful in my sobriety. I love, value, and respect this place very much and would recommend it to anyone battling with addiction. The right step also gave me the one on one help and guidance i needed as well, and set me up with an amazing sober house as well as aftercare. Other than some nice people that were patients there I thought the place was horrible and 99% of the staff were rude and condescending. They try to put every person in the same box and that does NOT work. The first meeting I went to there was a man there for his EIGHTH time. His seventh visit resulted in him hooking up with a woman that was in there. They have this stupid rule about "men and woman can't socialize". This obviously does not work. I met maybe three people who were in there for the first time. One woman had only been out one week when she was brought back. The success rate here appears to suck. I would never ever recommend this place to anyone. read more

In no way do I want to take away from other people's positive treatment experience at The Right Step Hill Country. My agenda is merely to write a review based on putting our loved one in treatment there. At the very beginning, the admissions process was a nightmare. We were barely acknowledged, and then left in the dark as to just how their admission policies worked. We were told that we would be met by the counselor, which did not happen. We did meet someone that said he would be working with our loved one and even claimed to be his counselor, only to learn later that he was not the attending counselor. We never met, or spoke to our loved one's counselor. The family handbook specifically said that if we had any concerns or questions about the treatment process that their counselor would gladly call us back to answer them. (You are already concerned in the first place). Our calls were unanswered and never returned. You really cannot even reach a live person, you just go in circles on phone trees. Voicemails are not acknowledged, much less returned. At that point, I emailed the executive director, Terry Edwards about my questions going unanswered and being left in the dark. Her reply was condescending, simply telling me to "trust the process." This was the problem- I had no trust because the staff was completely unavailable for questions. I began feeling very uneasy, and wondering if I had made a mistake. Then, I received a call from my loved one saying that he was not allowed to leave group to go to the restroom. He went anyway and was given consequences. I called admissions and asked to speak with the counselor. She was vague and unresponsive regarding my concerns. I then asked to speak with the director, where I proceeded explain my concerns. I slightly raised my voice (as this whole experience was a nightmare from the beginning) only to be told that she would not allow me to abuse her staff! What?! I had not been abusive, only showing upset in my voice. I have never worked with such unprofessional and unreasonable people in my life. I was simply stunned. When my loved one exited the program, his meds were not given to him to take home. When I called to ask when I could come and get them, I was put on hold for several minutes when a gruff sounding man came on stating that we were not allowed on the property, or we would be trespassing! So, we had to call the Hayes County Constable to escort my loved one onto their property to be able to pick up their meds. Even the Sheriff's department told us that they have had multiple problems with them. In his words: "This place really burns me up." I will be lodging a formal complaint against them. read more
